  1. Oh, I know that much. The way my Arena matches are going now, I'm basically playing Nino Emblem (with some support from Eirika, Azura, & F!Corrin...mostly the former two, tbh Corrin's been sitting on the side twiddling her...thumbs? claws? for the past few fights). I'm curious as to whether the bonus damage from Gronnblade is affected by the Weapon Triangle. Ex. if Nino's next to Eirika and Azura at the start of the turn for a total bonus of +11, and Nino hits a blue unit, will they take (Atk + 11 [Gronnblade]) * 1.2 - Res damage instead of (Atk * 1.2) + 11 - Res. My guess is no, but I'm not sure.

  2. Yeah, reviewing some of the Spd numbers on the people I like to have Nino smash, probably best to wait out a better boon/bane combo one.

I'll have to look at how Gronnblade works. I mean...the difference is kind of minor, but I'm curious now. The wording on it is "Adds total bonuses on unit to damage dealt", and from that I wouldn't really expect weapon triangle to apply to it, since WT is a multiplier on the Atk stat. Then again, we've seen mis-translations before (Physic), so...idk. I'll pay a visit to the 1st Stratum or something when I get home (totally not overkill).

  3. Yipes...that's some rough luck on the Nino boons/banes. I'm tempted to say +Def/-Spd Nino is better than Julia as she'll still turn out faster and, with Eirika buffs, hit harder (49 Atk + 7 Gronnblade dmg, which I don't think is affected by Weapon Triangle? Could be wrong, but that's what I'm getting from the wording), but it's a close thing. If you're getting good results from Julia, I'd say keep running her, and maybe experiment with the 4* Nino on the side (from personal experience, 4* Nino is still pretty potent) once you've got a solid chain of 7 down.

Imo, it really comes down to a few factors...if Julia is one-shotting, or you have dragon troubles, obviously there's no problem sticking with her. If Julia doesn't one-hit, and you can handle dragons, and -Spd Nino can pull off a one-round (37 Spd w/ Eirika buff is still respectably high), then Nino is probably the way to go. For reference, I've tried +Atk/-Spd Julia and +Def/-HP Nino and usually find Nino to get better results (Edit: with Sharena's Fortify Def on top of Eirika buffs, non-Atk-bane 5* Nino will be one-shotting some Takumis, if you find them to be an annoyance).

  4. Having Olivia at 4* is pretty handy, and probably one of the better 3*-4* investments imo. Dancing is valuable, your team will get a light rating boost for Arena matches, and she's actually not horrible at fighting, you just don't really want her doing a lot of it.

Knock Back...is really situational. Off the top of my head the only cases you'd really use it are if

    1) The enemy is 1 tile outside of the range of someone that can kill him/her. The map that splits your team into two opposite corners strikes me as the most likely one where this would be the case.

    or

    2) You have a 1-range character that can't survive a hit from an enemy, can't deal enough damage to kill them, and Olivia has enough damage to make up the difference. So, attack with Olivia to chip & bump them back, then put your 1-range character in the newly formed gap to finish the job.

How in the heck did you get not only over 4k, but over 4.5k?!

Magic. No death, running F!Corrin, Eirika, Nino, and Azura. All of my matches were around 640-650 points, and were basically conquered with Nino power (so...I guess magic is technically not far off =P ).

  6. Speaking as someone who bumped up a +Def/-HP Nino to 5* myself, I can definitely say she's worth it. With Eirika's buffs she has 49 Atk + 7 damage and will double most things she can't one-shot with 40 Spd. For reference, Lv. 40+10 Julia with +Atk has 56 Atk (which base Nino matches), and a +Spd one would have 34 Spd. Really the only thing Julia has over Nino is Naga (and I guess Breath of Life is nice in some instances). Draw Back is a seriously good tool as well (Here is a post from earlier in this thread showcasing a hilariously effective way to deal with the split-up map that I find myself copying a lot, albeit with Azura instead of Olivia). Edit: Nino will also demolish any enemy Julia pretty easily.

I'd definitely consider Olivia to be placed on the team because dancing is a great tool to have. She really only needs to be 4* (if you do end up bumping up Nino), though it'll hurt your rating a bit.

tbh Ephraim/Eirika/Nino/Olivia is a reasonably workable team, but you will have troubles with the likes of Tharja, Leo, and Tiki unless you can get Ephraim in their faces before they hit him. Running Robin over Ephraim should be ok though. It will leave you without a solid frontliner, but if you balance your baiting and nuking I don't think that'll be an issue.

  7. Currently sitting on Rank 1112 with 4524 offense points. I'm interested to see how far that'll drop.

Re. Bonus Characters impacting defense, I don't think so. Since Lyn & Takumi fell out of the bonus rotation, my defense team has no bonus characters on it. My best defense score is actually higher than last season's by a solid 10-20 points. Although that might be just due to more units surviving? I'm not sure how that score is calculated at all.

  8. 5*

I've got more than just the four, but these make up my main offense team and play really nicely with each other.

Lucina (+Res/-HP): Neither stellar nor horrible, imo. +Atk or +Spd would have been nice, but at least neither of them got hit with a bane.

F!Corrin (+Atk/-Res): Probably my favorite unit in the entire army. Swings hard, can eat most physical damage like nobody's business, and comes with some incredible buff/debuff power. Also, when I feel like turning animations on, dragon breath attacks always look hilarious. I don't think -Res hurts her too much because her Res is pretty shoddy to begin with. +Atk is awesome, but tbh I would have preferred +Spd. Most notably she wouldn't be doubled by +Spd Lucina. Not that I have her eat Falchions regularly or anything, but it's nice to have the option, since she won't get one-shot and can 2HKO them.

Nino (+Def/-HP): My anti-Takumi, who also doubles as an anti-most-people. Also another one of those neither stellar nor horrible combos. I think her best boon is, situationaly, +Atk or +Spd, depending on the rest of the team. For example, with Lucina and F!Corrin, I'd prefer +Spd; this would let her double just about anything not named +Spd Linde after Dark Breath's debuff. Doubling on top of Gronnblade's already ridiculous damage buff is just...ouch. On another planet, running someone that can buff her Spd through a Hone or Rally, I'd prefer +Atk, since the effect of the Spd buff is basically the same as having +Spd gotta go find an Eirika. As it stands, +Def/-HP isn't bad, not hitting her Atk or Spd, and not significantly impacting her durability (she can still eat a single hit from any non-Limit Broken Takumi before nuking the living daylights out of him).

Azura (+Awesomeness/-Self Control +Spd/-Res): Literally the only reason I can no longer (truthfully) claim to be F2P. On the plus side, my pull wish list is now completely empty so my wallet is safe. Anyways, as far as combat boons go +Spd is great, letting her double up to 39 Spd foes after a Dark Breath debuff. I'd go so far as to say that this is probably her best boon for the team I'm running. Since her main goal is to sing to people, I don't think there's a significantly better boon for her to have. -Res hurts a little bit, but 24 is still respectably high, and I don't usually have her fighting anyone outside of Falchion users anyway.

    4*

A few more of my personal favorites that I'd love to bump up and use more actively some day.

Selena (+Def/-HP): The first unit I ever pulled, and one of my favorites from my Awakening & Fates experiences to boot. +Def/-HP suits her pretty well, actually. If the GamePress page is to be believed (iirc she's a pretty recent addition to it), she'd finish with a stat spread of 34 HP, 41 Atk, 35 Spd, 32 Def, and 28 Res. 35 Spd means it'll be hard for anyone to double her, and high defenses on top of her Triangle Adept will make just about any green run for the hills (and she's got an Armorslayer to boot. R.I.P. every Hector, ever). I'm not sure if there's a better bane for her, but she definitely loves the boon. I've also got a +Spd/-Atk variant, and even though 38 Spd is pretty sweet on paper, I think +Def/-HP is better for her (and, of course, there's the first unit pulled ever factor).

M!Robin (+Atk/-Spd): Probably lower on my priority list than Selena, because favoritism. +Atk is good on him, -Spd kinda sucks, but his Spd is low anyway, so having it bane'd isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world. Like others have said before, -Res would probably be preferable because it wouldn't interfere with his proc and would probably escape doubling from a reasonable number of threats.

Catria (+HP/-Atk): I think this is the only boon/bane combo listed here that I actually dislike, all the others are at least palatable for me. With her role as a physical unit counter, I think I'd prefer +Def (although that might be overkill on top of Armored Blow). That or +Spd, since doubling a 1-range opponent gives her a guaranteed Luna every combat. As far as the bane...I think -HP would probably be best. She definitely doesn't want -Atk, -Spd, or -Def, and her Res is actually pretty solid, so I don't think I'd want that hit.

  9. It's probably similar to Cecilia's escape skill (I think some other characters have this too...Anna iirc? Edit: Anna's got it on her 5* Weapon, Marth's got it, probably other people I'm forgetting/don't know about as well). For the escape, when you pick Cecilia when she's under the HP threshold, all the open tiles next to her allies will be highlighted a slightly lighter shade of blue. Tapping those tiles will let you move there. Tapping an enemy in attack range of those tiles will let you attack them, with the normal single-tap for preview, double-tap for confirm mechanics.

For Wings of Mercy, I'm guessing that when you pick Frederick, open tiles around allies below the HP threshold will be highlighted, and you can tap around as you please.

Side note, I personally find leveling Cecilia to be really fun because after she takes just about any hit (her defenses are meh) I can just warp her around the map as I please. It's kind of hilarious.

  10. It's times like this when I wish I had a Hammer user lying around, because I honestly do believe you could do it with just two damage units, and I'd definitely try to demo it if I could. I get that my belief alone won't hold too much weight, and since I'm not currently capable of getting hard evidence, I'll just let it play out. Best of luck to you, though.

On the getting units to lv. 40 thing, training tower and story mode for me, mostly. I also burned all my stamina potions because I'm impatient like that lol.

Yeah, Freddy's gained a level since that screenshot. Sharena was also upgraded and leveled up again since then. Olivia won't be much help other than with dancing if I swap Palla out for her though, as she still has weapon disadvantage.

Also, you guys underestimate Palla's attack power. She has pretty good attack and with her Moonbow skill, she does MORE damage every other turn. She's taken out some axe armors for me just fine.

Dancing is all she needs to do, I think. And stand next to Frederick for the Hone Atk boost (unless Frederick gained Atk on his level up, it'll have to be Hone Atk 2). If the mage & armor advance in the fashion that I've experienced (together, with the armor swapping to the front), it'll eventually get to a position where Frederick can take them both out in one turn with a Dance (after 2 turns, I believe).

Does Robin have 13 Spd and enough Def to not get one-shot by the bow knight (his stats are in the spoiler above)? If so, give him a healer and he should be fine, I think. He doesn't need to kill him or anything (though that wouldn't hurt), just live. He can even take every other turn off if you need him to, the bow knight will come right back once Robin re-enters his range, unless he sees something more appetizing.

Re: Palla: I've had some firsthand experience with a pseudo-Ruby Sword (Triangle Adept Selena), and I'd say I have a good amount of respect for the green-thrashing that it brings. Palla's better on the damage end too, since Selena has Reposition instead of a proc. I just don't think that, with Frederick and Olivia to handle the non-bow people, she would make too much of a difference on this map in particular.

It's usually better to hit Armors in their Resistance, even if you have WTA in physical. Even if you have a tome that has WTD, they'll still do damage and won't get hit back in retaliation. I'd only give her a pass if she can kill the Armor in a round--but she still has the other foes to contend with (she'll be hit even harder by Masked Man, by this same logic). Though I don't have Palla so this is me thinking that she's not suited due to the other enemies and not the Armor alone.

Yeah, I misinterpreted the first statement; I somehow got the impression that the context of the discussion was still just the Axe Knight. My bad. I definitely agree that armors are best hit in the Res, especially having got through 9-2 on mostly dragon & tome power.

I'll also agree that Palla's probably not a pick for this map. Even assuming that Frederick's stats are the same as on the page 2 screenshot (I doubt this), if Olivia has Hone Atk 2 he's hitting the 31 threshold to take out the armor and "???" in one turn with a Dance (my experience is that they advance together, with the armor swapping himself to the front). That'd leave the healers and the bow; Palla can probably handle the healers, but the bow, entrenched as he is behind that wall...

  13. Palla has WTA on the Axe Knight though? She's got a Ruby Sword, iirc. Frederick with 31 Atk should be able to one-round the Armor and one-shot the Mage (unless I've got the math wrong), just need someone bulky to eat the bow for a turn or two. Map below.

Weapon ADV = 1.2 (1.4 with Triangle Adept)

Weapon DA = 0.8 (0.6 with Triangle Adept)

Are those two certain? I can definitely put together some more test numbers (Selena's my go-to to handle things with Axes), but my observation is that Triangle Adept seems to be multiplicative, not additive.

Interesting on the ceiling thing...I would never have guessed.

Wonder if anyone got Soleil & Caeldori with:

    - Aptitude
    - Astra
    - Rend Heaven
    - Luna
    - Quixotic

    Thanks in advance!

I've got Caeldori with everything but Aptitude up. Word of caution: everyone's on hold, but I'm too lazy to rebuild everyone's inventory every time I want to use them, so they all have weaponry =P .

  16. I'm wondering if anyone else has observed that the Triangle Adept skill seems to 1) be multiplicative with Weapon Triangle advantage and 2) apply an equal penalty to the enemy, despite not specifically mentioning it on the skill (from the description, I'd expect it to only give your character a buff). Screenshot below (showing Triangle Adept 2, +/-15% for advantage/disadvantage). I'm assuming damage is truncated, and not rounded.

    Selena Destroys Green Units.png

    It looks to me like Michalis' damage is TRUNCATE(TRUNCATE(44 * .8) * .85) - 28. It wouldn't make sense to have it be TRUNCATE(44 * .65) - 28, because that'd be 0.

    Selena's could be either TRUNCATE(TRUNCATE(27 * 1.2) * 1.15) - 34 or just TRUNCATE(27 * 1.35) - 34 ... at this point I'm thinking it's the former, I'd have to go find some more green units to squash test on.

    Am I missing something here?

I already have a 5* in M!Robin and 4* F!Corrin is still one of my big candidates for bumping up to 5* (granted, M!Corrin was somewhat competing until I got Marth). A lot of my early game strategy revolved around F!Corrin luring some poor schmuck in to debuff them, then blasting them with Robin and Merric. This tactic requires a lot more care in the upper levels (36+ Training Tower and Lunatic enemies get hefty enough to make even neutral match-ups dangerous), but is still somewhat feasible. Just factoring in skills, she'll get a 4 Mt bump and Seal Res to 3, which is -7 (versus the -5 from rank 2). Pretty good deal.

Good to know! I've read Seal Res before, but I completely forgot it was -7 at max instead of -6 (my brain's still geared for Fates). I'll have to go grab a magical unit and try that out now...

What's your opinion on M!Corrin, actually? I personally found him to be a little glassy...and it seems to me that there are plenty of other people to satisfy the "glassy red" role.

  18. I'll second F!Corrin. I've got her sitting at ~Lv. 30 4* and my experience is that she has enough Atk to hit hard (and she's magical, which is nice in a lot of cases), enough Spd to not get doubled, most of the time, and enough defensive bulk to take a few hits. That's not even factoring in Hone Atk, Seal Res, and Dark Breath, which are all very useful. I haven't had the opportunity to try this out, since most of my other good units are physical...but I'm interested in seeing how effective it would be to bait an enemy into attacking her (for Seal Res) then having a magical ally adjacent to her (for Hone Atk). I think that'd be a pretty scary damage bump (up to 10? Unless I'm horribly mis-remembering the numbers). I'm saving feathers for a 5* Promotion and I'm almost certain it'll be her. Granted - it's not just her stats/skills, I also don't have any 5* Blues, which definitely factors into my decision.

Adult Tiki is nice for the two-range counter. I think Selena's good bulk and decent everything else, plus Armorslayer & Reposition would make her a good pick, but I won't deny that I have a bit of favoritism going her way too, so take that with a grain of salt. My experience has been that Green stuff in general just bounces right off of her. Sharena fills a pretty similar role to F!Corrin, though in slightly different ways. She's not as defensive though (or at least, mine isn't).

Those are the 4 that stood out to me as I went through the game. There are probably other notables that I either just don't have or didn't give enough of a chance to shine.

  19. My first was 4* Selena, Kagero, & Naga's Voice Tiki, plus 3* Female Corrin and Azama. I still use Female Corrin (bumped her to 4* because Hone Atk is just fun) regularly, and try to keep Selena and Tiki reasonably leveled because they both laugh off Axe Knights (Selena's Reposition is really nice too).

Thank you so much! I hope you like the Arena Shield.

I don't think I would be able to find any of these skills on Forrest anytime soon. Trust me, I've tried for... hmm, I want to say almost four months but I feel it may have been a little longer then that. :v

Ouch! Well, give me some time and I can put it together. The only one I see having real trouble with is Quick Salve (relatively speaking).
