  1. Before I get to the my answer, I would like to point out that the overall appeal to CYL has downgraded a lot. With the introduction of monthly "legendary heroes" and a safe spot for alts in "new" hero banners, the idea in having a special version of voted character seems less exciting. Take CYL2 for example. Besides new skills, the most wanted character seemed to be Veronica  and that for a good reason. A lot of the hype went straight down the moment IS introduced legendary forms of voted heroes before CYL2. Die- Hardcore- Fans of specific heroes may be satisfied but certainly not the masses at current state. If anything the "Losers" of CYL3 are indication of what people wish from these events (e.g. Laguz / Shapeshifters).

    My predictions:

Males: Marth - Alm - OCs

Females: Eirika - Micaiah - Nino - OCs

  2. Some of my first impressions summed up:

    - the game title

Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Two Doors and One Key (looks more filled now, doesn't it)

    - story seems to have potential

    - gameplay looks interesting

    - character art & design is okay, but nothing outstanding or particular unique (the modern artstyle and the mideavel setting is somthing that has to grow on me, I guess)

    - the singing was good

    That's it for now.

And that’s because Conquest is an actually well-designed Fire Emblem game that should be the golden standard the series should strive for.

While I agree that CQ is a huge step up in terms of mapdesign in comparison to Awakening, it should be mentioned that it's nowhere near to perfection.

The likes of Chapter 19, 20 and 24 are way more tedious than challening, which I personally don't consider good gamedesign.

The "Dueling Arena with Xander/Ryoma" had only story purposes and caused the actual map more trouble than favour.

The only time I felt Dragon Veins came in handy was in Chapter 21, for all other attempts it was more an indicator for questionable gimmicks (Revelations says hello).

CQ is a huge step in the right direction, but I don't see having it  the "perfect formular" for the franchise.

Nevertheless it's nice to see that IS is trying to come up with new ideas for better or worse (+ acknowledging it's flaws).

The turnwheel is as optional as Casual & Phoenix Mode, Grinding maps and the my-room-feature. If I don't like - I simply don't use it. The idea of how Fire Emblem should be played, has changed many times before. This trend started way back in time and it makes little sense to call out SoV for it when earlier titles did the same thing before.

Echoes was a dumb move, yes.

Echoes is proof that IS hasn't lost touch with creating games that feel refreshing and their abbilitiy to come up with new game mechanics. Furthermore the presentation is of the best the series has and that's all on 3DS. It's the best sign that FE won't become a Loopfest of blatant fanservice you wish for (or you stick with Heroes I guess).

  5. A musthave in gachas so I guess you have to deal with it

what bothers me is the huge focus on them ( especially in combination with the legendary banners)

actual new content to be added lasts way more than popping out those (the lack of presentation = actual new heroes,GHB's besides)

so overall it's more a curse than a blessing for me in the longrun

if I had to give an honest opinion, I would say that their announcements are less exciting the more they appear

  6. Dragon Veins: with an exception here and there most of them were pretty annoying (they are also probably the reason I never finished Revelation)

Biorythm: while being a more realistic  feature I would rather have my units in a permanent decent condition than up & downs in a difficult situation

Pair Up: Fates had a nice improvement in this regard, still I don't see the need for such a mechanic (it felt more like highlighter for the games shipping aspects)

I don't remember Sigurd wearing so much of that armor, dude; that's a stretchy accusation.

And what do you mean by "safe card duplicate"? I don't get what you mean. You mean the alts? I don't see how that's relevant to trust...?

It maybe stretchy, but we can clearly see where the "inspiration" came from.

This banner is the prime example that new banners from now on will be alternate for the money banners. There is a trust issue when you depending on big faces to get those figures safely.

There are so many great characters left to be added but they will never see a spotlight, because all we will get are  the 10th version of Chrom or Lucina. You can't even blame them, it's gatcha after all.

I am so disappointed. I really wanted Thracia, but what disappoints me more is that mage Eirika wasn't a one off thing. The game has now proven that they are going to happily recycle characters already in the game without adding in enough new characters, nor will they dump any new 3-star characters to make up for the reskins either. We'll be lucky to get new, less popular characters at this rate.

I'll probably make a half-hearted attempt for at least one of them, but just ... ;/

I'm with you on this one. At least we got Hardin. Seems like every "new" banner  will be special heroes.

To get actual new units will be a pain it seems. Now that every banner has to have at least one save route character.

Seperating new banners at this rate is pointless. There is no guideline. It's all about special units.

    I'm sorry, what?

When did I ever say that the Fates characters didn't have any flaws? Don't put words into my mouth, and don't call me ignorant just because yeah, I actually prefer the Fates cast. Shocking, right?

You say "when you look up to their receptions by the community". Hah. Why on earth should I even care about what the community thinks? A majority of of the fan base loves Ike. By that logic, I should love Ike too. Nope, sorry. It doesn't work like that.

Look. It's clear you disagree with me, and that's fine. But to twist my words? No thank you. So let's drop this, yeah? Like I said before, getting into an argument about anything Fates related is not on my to-do list. It's tiring, pointless, and nobody comes out happy.

    So, agree to disagree?

"I don't see how any of them are shoved into your face" is far away from concrete, it leaves me way to much room for interpretation.

Look, i'm glad you like the fates cast. You can also compare it with other cast's, no problem here. Saying Sacred's Stones cast is "averege" with little reasoning is a deep cut in comparison with fates one. If you dig enough into their supports, I would say FE8's cast is as colorful as Fates'. But we're clearly viewing this from a subjective angle, so I leave it by that.

By the hit or miss logic it also means people hate Ike for the exact  same reason, which was my intend for Odin and Selena.

It's more that I struggle to see your reasoning behind certain topics than the fact we're disagreeing.

The conversation itself is a greater goal than the right answer for me, so I gladly thank you for that.

Whereas with Fates, I don't see how any of them are shoved in your face.

I fail to see how Elise (has her moments) and, I actually can't believe I have to mention; Camilla are not shoved into your face. (their ingame CGs basically force you to like them)

Going into Supports, a character like Niles is a way to hard attempt from Nintendo to please a section of it's fanbase.

Odin (while I prefer Owain) and Selena are also hit or miss personas (when you look up to their receptions by the community). Lucky enough ,especially Selena improved, thanks to her fates supports.

Fates has a decent amount of characters but saying it has hardly flaws is ridiculous and ignorant.

Ephraim is too brash and impulsive, too cocky. I don't like that in a Lord (I do tend to favour the Marth type, so that may be why).

Fates just has a stronger cast. I'm much more invested in the Nohrian Royals, the Awakening Trio, Kaze, Saizo, Midori, Asugi, Kaden, Keaton, Orochi, Niles, Rinkah, so on so forth. For SS, I only liked Artur, Natasha and Joshua. The rest of the cast was just too...average

Friendly reminder that this is the Unpopular Opinions Thread, they're unpopular for a reason. Feel free to disagree with me.

I'm confused. You say you don't like the impulsive type of characters but then you list the most in-your-face personalities fates has to offer?

By "average" you mean less one-dimensonal, right?

A friendly reminder of this kind tells me a lot of your confidence in your arguments.

    More of my unpopular opinions:

    • Sacred Stones's plot is overrated; it's one of, if not the worst outright in the series.
    • Sacred Stones has rather poor writing.
    • With the exception of Glen and Duessel, Sacred Stones's villains were all mediocre to outright bad.
    • Lyon was a very poor attempt at a tragic villain.
    • Awakening's plot, while it messed up in execution, is still better than the plots of certain other games (Sacred Stones and Sword of Seals).
    • Sumia and Cordelia are overrated.

    1. I never saw FE8's plot highly praised.

    2. Let's be honest here. So were most of the current villains that IS threw at us in all 3DS games.

    3. Lyon beeing warshipped for that reason, I can fully agree on.

    4. Awakenings plot is literally an updated version of Sacred Stone's. I feel this is a rather weak comparison.

    5. Agreed.

I don't know about comparing Leon to Niles. One is gay and the other is bisexual.

    20 minutes ago, AbsoluteZer0Nova said:

If anything Niles can be more so compared to Soren in that regard as they're broken people with dreadful pasts of not having at least one moment of happiness nor love in their lives up until meeting Leo and Ike respectively.

To be honest, I didn't even dig that deep. I see Leon and Niles are Nintendo's attempt to please a certain target group of gamers. Leon as a gay character felt way more naturally to me than Niles did (im clearly not here to discuss fates writing, but imo characteres like Niles are suffering from it, cause they pushed him way to hard) when it came to writing. So to clear things up, the way nintendo presented the "gay" character to me felt more genuine in Echoes compared to Niles (whatever sexual orientation he may have).

    20 minutes ago, AbsoluteZer0Nova said:

I'm just going to have to disagree with your opinion on Leon being a better written character than Niles.

That's fine, it's a different topic in that regard anyway.

  13. 5 minutes ago, AbsoluteZer0Nova said:

It's nice to see him high up. I really wasn't expecting him to be above Leon.

It's no surprise to me at all. Python's character feels way more realistic and relateable than Leon's. I'm not implying he's a bad character (huge step up in comparsion to Niles in terms of writing), but Leon's supports are mainly focused on his crush on valbar and the idealization of a man (which in this case is a very personal/individual topic and therefore less appealing to a mass audience, I believe). Second indicator would probably be his astonishing Voice Actor: Doug Erholtz.

It didn't always work out. HectorxFlorina is pretty bad I'd say for a support, two rounds of "Eek! Men scare me! *Runs away*" from Florina, followed by a conversation that somehow has Hector subtly falling in love with her? That is bad writing. I feel they could have cut to the chase a little faster with RebeccaxWil, have them discuss their childhood together a little more a little sooner. But that is a bit more nitpicky.

I admit, especially this support is proof not to generalize my statement. Funnily enough I think the HectorxFlorina support has an awkward charme to it, but I definetly can see your point of view here.

EliwoodxLyn, Kentxany of his trio of choices, these are couple cases where I feel the romance was much better handled. You don't need an outright confession all the time, leave the proposal to the imagination and establish enough intimacy and chemistry between the two individuals that the leap to marriage is reasonable.

    True words.

  15. Let's see what I can bring to the table:

    • S-Supports shouldn't have conversations (similar to the A+ Supports for indication). Contentwise most of them are pretty bad (GBA and SoV are prime examples that romances can be established without them)
    • Lucina (honorable mention: Yarne) is one of the least interesting child untis awakening has to offer, while Brady is shining the most
    • Nils > Ninian
    • I love FE4's oversized maps
    • I enjoy using Wolt in FE6 and Wil in FE7
    • Python is not that bad gameplaywise as people tend to make him look like
