General Spoon
This morning, while watching the History Channel, I learned that casinos will kick you out if they find you card counting in Blackjack. And it doesn't break any rules to do it. What's next, are casinos going to refuse you entrance if you're sober? The program was about the MIT blackjack team. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIT_Blackjack_Team Actually, it was mostly about the Strategic Inventments LP, I think. Except I had to get ready for school and didn't get to see it. Edited March 3, 2009 by Navarre
lolDeath
I would actually enjoy that. An area full of drunk people losing their money.
Der Kommissar
A casino is a private business establishment. They are not required to provide you service.
General Spoon
A casino is a private business establishment. They are not required to provide you service. But card counting isn't breaking rules. There's nothing in blackjack that says you can't count cards.
Der Kommissar
But card counting isn't breaking rules. There's nothing in blackjack that says you can't count cards. You don't understand. It is their business - they set the rules. Within the bounds of U.S. federal and state law.

Let me put it this way (assuming no external card counting device). They're barring you from playing because you're using your brain. Edorian
Let me put it this way (assuming no external card counting device). They're barring you from playing because you're using your brain. From the business point of view they are barring you because you are not good for the business and are potentially dangerous. Casinos are NOT stupid that is why they'll kick you out if you are intelligent enough to count the cards and make them lose money.
Der Kommissar
They're barring you from playing because you're using your brain. What's the problem with that? A casino is in the business of making money, not rewarding intelligent or driven individuals. Are you trying to say it isn't fair? Well, making calculations within one's own mind is not an arrestable offence. So, I'd say it is unfair.

General Spoon
As they say, life isn't fair. Is too. Look at these guys. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griffin_Investigations They went bankrupt for helping casinos ban people. See, just desserts. Defeatist Elitist
Dude. Casinos aren't "stupid". The whole point of a Casino is that people lose more money to you than they make. That won't really happen if they're actually winning will it? That's the whole point. You ban people who might win.
CGV
They just want people to lose more so they can get moar money

Some just use their god given gift (their brain) to improve their odds of winning AND they stay within the rules too.
Divine Hero Nguyen
che. This entire topic reminds me of 21... Good movie. :) Maybe because 21 was based off of the MIT Blackjack team? Anyone can win it though. Some just use their god given gift (their brain) to improve their odds of winning AND they stay within the rules too. Casinos are not tournaments; they are a business. Their desire is to make profits off of gambling, not to see who is the most skilled at card counting. Keep in mind, if anyone is on a winning streak for any game not limited to blackjack, the casino will kick that person out.
