Guardian Soul

-------------

by Metal Arc/Adam

Foreword: This is something I came up with a while ago, and have been posting.

It's an awesome action story with alot of sci-fi and dumb humorous elements.

However, my audience consists of 3 people that I know about.

People promise to give it a chance and don't, others just ignore it probably because they aren't in it.

I can't count how many times I've gotten discouraged from a lack of readers.

So this is my last try, and I'm hoping to gain a few more readers this time with a new format and editing.

---------------------------------

Chapter One: Meet Zero (part one)

---------------------------------

It's early morning in a suburban neighborhood, sun barely came up.

There's one house on the block that stands out, in the sense that it's only one story.

We see into a bedroom which is rather tidy, considering who lives in it.

A teenage boy gets of about 17 gets out of bed and pauses.

The first thing he does is feel his jet black hair that shoots out in all directions.

He heads to his bathroom and looks in the mirror.

"Bed head again." said the boy.

He grabs starts brushing his teeth, when something large passed behind him.

"Morning Fort." said the boy with a toothbrush in his mouth.

"You know you have bed head, right?"

"I figure I'll let Angie see my dirty side today."

"I think that's the stupidest thing you've said in a while."

The boy spits into the sink and turns around.

"What do you know Fort? You're not even human." he says with a slight grin.

Behind the boy is a floating being clad in white armor and a knight's helm on his head.

The spike on his helm and red eyes are enough to let anyone know he's not one to be messed with.

"Even so, you've never had the best logic now have you?" retorts the knight look-alike.

"Stow it."

They hear someone come into his room.

"Zach, are you going to take a shower before school?" calls out a woman's voice.

He looks in the mirror at Forte and replies "Not today mom."

--------

En route to school

"Hey Fort, can you do something to Angie like make her pen explode?"

"I don't know why you'd want that to happen to her.

I thought you said you're trying to win her over.

How exactly does that accomplish anything?"

"A simple no would have sufficed."

"Please, if you understood the word "no" then you'd have stopped trying to hit on her."

"She'll come around, just wait."

They stop walking and without turning around, Zach says:

"Can I help you kid?"

Behind them is a boy that can't be more than 10 years old.

"Who are you talking to?" asks the boy.

"Tell me kid... are your parents together?" says Zach.

"Yeah... but why?" replies the boy in a confused tone.

"Look up what a guardian soul is.

You can't see mine because you don't have one."

With that, he runs up ahead to get rid of the kid.

"That was a little mean." says the guardian.

"It gets old. People asking who I'm talking to.

Of course it's mostly adults that do that.

You know firsthand that most kids at school have a guardian."

"True."

--------

Zach's classroom.

It's your typical high school class with rows of desks, and with the teacher's desk is up front.

Zach's sitting at his desk and appears to be drawing something in a notebook.

A rather short, brown haired schoolgirl walks up to him.

"What'cha drawing, Zach?" asks the girl in a flirty manner.

"Spaceman."

He shows her a drawing of... something... it's so bad it's indescribable.

"You're so good at drawing! I wish I could draw like that..."

An even shorter boy with blonde hair takes a look at the notebook.

"Wake up Taitlin, Zach you suck at drawing." Aaron says with his arms crossed.

"Nuh-uh!" she exclaims.

"Cool it guys... Angie's here." Zach says with a smile

"Good morning Forte!" Taitlin says while waving at him.

"How are you all today?" greets the guardian.

"Good... and pip is over there looking at the clouds!" she says happily.

She points to a guardian that looks like a football... or a rat, sitting on the windowsill.

"He's looking outside because I told him he could fly if he did it enough."

"And he believes you?" Aaron says with a look of slight disbelief.

"For a guardian, he's really easy to fool." she says.

"Taitlin, you shouldn't pull tricks on your guardian.

He's here to make sure you don't get into trouble." Forte says in a serious tone.

"Well he sucks at his job." replies Taitlin.

"Sit down Zach!" orders his teacher.

"C'mon Angie, you and me in the park after school."

"I'm going to get a restraining order on you!" she says, freaked out.

"W'ever..."

Zach sits down.

"That's creepy on so many levels..." Forte says with a facepalm.

"What can I say, I like older women."

Forte just shakes his head at that.

"Zach, who're you talking to?" asks his teacher.

"It's my guardian Ms. Rhodes. I mean Angie.

His name's Forte."

"Well... I can't see it but wherever you are... guardian,

Keep him on a shorter leash!"

"I've tried." says Forte with an exasperated expression.

"Relax, I'll find a new crush before the end of the week." Zach says smugly.

Forte pauses a bit and says:

"You're an idiot, Zach."

"Hey, I just fall in love easy."

"Who's your next crush going to be Zach?" asks Taitlin with a hopeful look in her eyes.

"Zach, can I come over after school? I forgot my key at home." Aaron asks while looking through his backpack.

"Sure." says Zach, completely ignoring everything else.

--------

Outside of school, in the parking lot

The group exits the double doors and they begin to turn the corner onto the sidewalk.

"I wanna stop by seven eleven first, kay?" says Zach.

"Fine with me." says Aaron.

Behind him is his skinny green guardian wearing running shoes.

Before they can leave, an upperclassman approches them from behind with a look of chaos on his face.

"Hold up you two... you wouldn't be trying to leave without paying the life tax, would you?" says the guy.

"Huh?" asks Aaron, confused.

"Yeah we are. Now piss off." says Zach in an annoyed tone.

The guy gets angry at that statement.

"Mags! Make these wiseguys rethink their decision."

A guardian whose body is consists of magnets raises his arm.

Without a word he fires an electo magnetic pulse.

"My head!" cries Aaron, clutching his skull.

Zach pauses for a second, and says without turning to face the bastard:

"You finished?"

The guy looks bewildered and says:

"It's not working on you?"

"I'm bored with this."

Zach starts to walk away.

That really got the guy mad.

"What the fuck? Mags! Kill him!"

His guardian fires off a round of compressed electricity.

Forte blocks the attack with the palm of his hand as if it were nothing.

Zach stops and says in a grave tone:

"Don't do that again guy."

Now the guy is furious.

"Mags!"

The guardian fires another shot.

But Zach just sighs.

"This is getting old." says Forte as he stops the attack effortlessly.

"Fort... go ahead." says Zach with boredom.

"Like I need your permission."

Forte warps at high speed in front of Mags and knocks him in the face with his armored fist.

"The hell?" exclaimed the guy.

"Finish him." orders Zach.

"Force Laser!"

Forte unleashes a blinding-white beam and destroys Mags's body.

The body burns into nothingness and everyone except Zach and Forte look speechless.

"Don't stand there speechless Aaron. Let's get a snack."

Zach starts to walk away again.

Aaron gets ahold of himself and runs to catch up to Zach.

"Why'd you kill his guardian? Isn't that illegal?"

"It's not... but I wouldn't care if it was.

It's legal in this instance because his guardian was defected.

A normal one never attacks people. His was corrupt, and it probably corrupted him."

Without saying another word on the subject, they continue on.

--------

Author's note:

I didn't clearly express the concept here, and I won't bring it up again for a long time in the story. It is however important further on.

Guardians emit a special type of wave that their kid's brain subconciously picks up. The wave is meant to guide their actions and thoughts, but not influence them so much as to completly control them.

If a child's guardian is powerful, their waves are stronger. The kid however builds up an immunity to its influence, so it's use is rather limited.

In Zach's case, he's immune to this wave because of Forte. That's why the defected guardian's EMP waves didn't affect him. Because they were using the same type of wave.
