Your behavior (which seems to be shared with a number of Linux enthusiasts) is very akin to religious fanaticism, you know.

It can be. I can calmly and rationally discuss the pros and cons of the systems and explain why they are better than each other in those respects. Do you have the patience to investigate for yourself? I'm going to guess no. Even so, I feel responsible to help you. This is especially true when someone presents me with a computer problem that is actually a flaw of the design. There are workarounds to flawed code, but it is always better to make fabric that won't tear than to make a patch.

What am I doing? Just that. This is me me trying to tell people to optimize their code instead of adding more patches every time there is a problem.

If you think about it, fanatic-like behavior is inevitable so long as there are correct answers that a majority are oblivious to. Even if Linux is not the best OS and I am delusional, it is impossible for someone who knows a better way to come off as sane when they try to convince the masses of their discovery. The more adamant they are in the face of "So what?"s, the more insane they seem.

How do we solve that problem?

Let's run with that metaphor. In my eyes I am an agnostic DIY kind of person in a sea of religions. I am willing to switch OSes at the drop of a hat because I know some tools don't exist on all OSes. Most people will stick with one and think that's fine. I don't.

When someone comes to me with a problem or conflict, I sometimes perceive it as a problem with the structure they impose upon themselves instead of a problem with what they want or tried to do. Instead of suggesting a band-aid workaround, I try to tear down their religion and get them to analyze the problem for themselves. I try to get them to think about how to prevent the problem instead of hide it. I suggest that they become a DIY user. Not because they are... Wrong, per se, but because they are impeding their own productivity. I want to help them do what they want to do as efficiently as possible.

I don't start talking about Linux out of nowhere. I do it when someone is having trouble and I know it is a result of inherent system-based flaws. If someone is having trouble with a particular program and I know it will keep happening, I suggest a better program. When someone is having trouble with an add-on to a program and I know it will keep happening, I suggest a better add-on. I don't automatically give advice about Windows by saying 'use Linux'. I only do so if the measures are very extreme. In Rey's case, they have had to reformat their entire computer multiple times due to flaws within Windows itself. Not a program... Not an add on. Not a script. How can I be faulted for suggesting a change in OS when the OS itself is failing repeatedly for all to see?

If you still think I'm preaching from a pulpit, I'll have to step down now. It will be hard to put that any better than I just did.

I was originally giving a serious suggestion to Rey in light of the problem of having to reformat their entire drive again.

Should have been able to do that without people mocking, but alas.

Hm, I simply liked the characters, which is why I was interested.

Do you think otherwise or something?

I'm afraid they're pretty shallow

Hmmmmm

previous posts and stuff

Is there an estimated date though.

That much is clear

Of course not

It's probably a must have then. Hopefully there will be a demo

Dunno if a demo would be any good, the game does have a slow start after all

Why is Jprebs in the FE4 thread

It happens sometimes

Reformatting is only a solution for people who don't know what they're doing.

(Or who are cleaning shit of people who didn't know what they were doing, of course.)

It really is that stark of an improvement, though. Windows users are like smokers while Linux users are like non-smokers, metaphorically. Nearly as bad for long term productivity and as baffling. It's your money, but why would you do that to yourself?

lol

Hm. :-/

I may have to rethink bu- Oh wait, I'll just pirate it, if I ever play it. Never mind, then.

N-nothing.

For a second there I thought you were about to say bukkake

That is true. This would have been more polite to say when you first replied.

On a side note, it's also one of my biggest issues with Windows tech support. System error? Reformat. Avoid doing that next time!

Another system error doing something else? Reformat. Avoid doing that next time!

Every. Single. Time.

The lack of good error output and actual documentation on Windows code gives everyone a headache, even official devs. It's like restarting to most of the techs I've met. I swear I know more than any technical support person I have talked to.

Ugh. Don't even like thinking about it.

I was playing cards against humanity with friends and one of them pronounced it buck cake. She was swiftly correctly by everyone else, but so many laughs.

Pfhahahahahaha!

Logging that away.

Avoid Windows... At all costs...

Stay with the penguin, he's way nicer.
