Or a scripting language Perl, Python, PHP, Ruby. There are tons. Hell, even Javascript and HTML would be better. >_>. Java is last because it does so much for you, it's better to know how to do something before letting it get automated. C -> C++ -> Java My brother studied C/C++ and despised Java. Or maybe he just pitied those who learned Java first, I don't remember.
