Actually, you're dead wrong, at least with regards to more advanced mathematics and science, where things like Taylor series and binomial expansions are utilized as amazing tools of approximation. Computing an exact result would prove prohibitive, but the approximation is just as good, and incredibly simpler. Then let's not even get started with perturbation theory... Mm, well, I overgeneralized. My knowledge of math still borders on much simpler stuff. In the case of age, though, it's more accurate to be exact. In fact... In most cases, you have to round down. "You must be 16 by the last day of class in order to be eligible to participate" is what I saw on a poster one day. "I'll be 15 and a half by then! I'll just round it up and I'll be eligible!"
