Yeah... So I recently got GIMP, and I decided to start spriting...

Here's my first splice:

Mercenary Gilliam!

Edit: I also have Paintbrush now, which makes recolors and splices a HELL of a lot easier. :D

Edit 2: Korean Ewan removed for failures. ;_;

its a bit... rough esspecially on the clasp but good the hair looks a little to blended like its more a solid mass then strands of hair. the colors should be more equal in his clothes they look a little to contrasting.

however its your first so its very good don't get me wrong i like it it just needs improvment you show good potental keep up the good work try some splices!!!

hmm yes i see its the colors that blue went better with the original red than the black try darkning the blue maby.

(i feel bad telling you how to make it better its a good first sprite)

Ah... maybe a little navy would do great... I'll work on it tomorrow... for now, I better sleep. =_=

And don't worry about what I feel, I'm just picking up the basics. XD

When you recolor you're supposed to use the "Fill" tool, not scribble on the sprite.

This. But a nice first sprite anyway. Certainly a lot better than mine. Recoloring is a great way to get started. Also, Paint.NET is a great tool for recoloring, but if your comfortable with GIMP, dont worry about it.

I still use Paint to do mine (rather I would still use it if I were making any). I only use GIMP to make the background transparent.

Anyhow, I must ask, is his hair naturally just a solid color? It'd good of you to put it a dark grey instead of a black, though.

It isn't one solid colour. It's clearly in different shades.

...I can't get a color to "fade" from the darker color to the hair color... T_T

It kinda won't let me use an in-between color to make a transition so the hair doesn't look like a piece of charcoal...

i saved as a bitmap (.bmp) i belive ill see what i can do...

try a diffrent hair color mabey yellow or blue so we can see how it looks

Never save as BMP files. Use PNG if you're on Paint or GIF if you're using anything else. BMP files are huge and Photobucket will attempt to compress them by making them into JPGs.

What about saving stuff as png's on GIMP?

Get Paint.net at getpaint.net ^_^

If you use Paint.net or Gimp, save the image itself as a PNG or a GIF, because

those programs have no problem editing those formats. If you use Paint, then

you have to use a bitmap for editing, and then save it as a separate GIF file

using Giffy. But dudes, get Paint.net!!

Interesting stuff. The color doesn't quite work for me, though...

But dudes, get Paint.net!!

Ok, I've heard of this once before. What's so special about it? Is it better than microsoft paint?

EDIT: Wow, I'm stupid. I should have read the part right above it.

Saving anything as a GIF in Paint does weird shit to it.
