I was like "Oh, he retreated, I can probably use him again." I restarted my file. Though in FE8 IIRC it was Gilliam. Brigands pwned him. He let Finn get wounded (since he retreats instead of dying) in the Prologue. Fast-forward to Chapter 7, and he's back... at level 1.
