Many countries in the world today can be defined as Socialist, at least to some extent. Fuck, if you listen to Nishi, Canada is an extremely Socialist country. The problem with saying all of Socialism is X is that Socialism comes in a million and one flavors. Probably the most popular form of Socialism today, and the one people in the United States commonly accuse people like Obama of being is a Social Democrat, which really does not in any way necessitate mass murder, and there are many, many places that are Social Democracies at this point. Honestly, the reason that your examples are full of mass murder is because of their tyrannical and dictatorial side, not necessarily their socialist one.
