Can anyone recommend a good set of pairings in gen 1?

I'll be able to make my own decisions after playing through once, but don't want to get majorly screwed the first time...

The regular ones (like Adean/Midayle or Jamka, Holyn/Ayra, Beowulf/Lachesis, Claude/Sylvia, Levin/Fury Dew/Bridget and Azel/Tiltyu) will serve you well enough.

Not to mention Cuan that's even better in this version. He's badass as a Master Knight.

Oh yuck, Deu/Brigid. That's annoying to make. And did I hear something about Levin/Ayra somewhere?

Supposing I don't want to go to the bother of making Deu/Brigid, is Holyn an acceptable alternative, and Ayra with, hmm, someone else?

In another hack's discussion (where Skasaher could class change into a mage fighter-like class). Not in Binary/RM, I'm afraid.

If you don't want to give the Balmung to Lakche (since you can trade holy weapons), of course.

Sure, minor Odo Lakche or Skasaher can still use the Balmung if you feel so inclined, but bonuses are halved.
