In the Prismrivers case, they were created by Layla in immitation of her sisters, who had left their mansion after their father died. Layla didn't want to leave but wanted to keep her sisters, so she made the poltergeist versions. The real Prismrivers are dead and have never actually appeared. Also, Lunasa/Lyrica/Merlin's respective powers are to play the violin/keyboard/trumpet without touching them, so that's why the bow isn't in her hand.
