I find those game distinctly japanese. depends on how you look at it - games like Ultima Underworld was the direct inspiration for King's Field, which then became the Souls series. Severance: Blade Of Darkness was pretty much an early western version of it. Dragon's Dogma really is not out of the realm of being ye olde fantasy RPG.
