Yeah that's probably it, or something happened to you while you were young, and you hit your head or something and you lost your memory of it. I can't remember anything past the age of five because of my youth. I said "there is no way in hell I'm going down that" XD I tried to overcome my fear too, I was in a hotel once on vacation. We were on like, the 14th floor or something.
