IGdood
This is all just a big mistake. Now you'll pay for it. They charge....to their deaths. FUcking love death charge Archers? CHAAARGE Beat it in 1 minute. What a bunch of pushovers. Now he's trying to play nice. I'll GUT YOU. SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD. MAIM, KILL, BURN Filthy merchant. I'll spare you for the time being. Oooh Danette. New rooms that don't make sense New units! Archer - Standard ranged unit that can attack from all positions in a room with varying effects. Bandit - Low defense, high speed unit that can possibly be dodge tanks if placed in the front row.
IGdood
By the way unless specified, the names of units I buy are replaceable by whatever names you want. So far only Rehab has a stake in the LP. I need a ranged squad that can counter magic squads. My other two can cover enemy melee and ranged. A standard Nippon Ichi feature. Merchants level up when you buy random crap from them. In Soul Nomad, you have to beat up a merchant with a maxed bar to unlock the next level. They're easy, fortunately. Upgraded decor items. Good shit. Astec city has some......eccentric inhabitants. Am I the only sane man? And here's another random as fuck feature. Using items that can combine people, I can fight the townspeople (without them knowing it) and assimilate their stats into my own. Rehab
Beating up merchants is good for business I almost forgot how quirky everything is in Nippon Ichi games. Somebody else throw in some name nominations, I don't want to feel like I'm grabbing all of them <: Nominating Sendo for Bareknuckle, Serpico for bandit. But yeah...I'm surprised not a lot of people are getting into it. Los Banditos blitz team ready for action! More story time. Christophe is not some typical good guy. He demands wetwork done, and we might have just played a part in starting a war. JUST THE WAY I LIKEIT I mean no way, I'm a good guy. I think. Too many voices in head. Voices. Voices tell me to do bad things and kill people. VOICES Edited March 12, 2013 by skitarii
IGdood
More story stuff. Enjoy the hilarity. Also, a second dream. I wonder who I am..... Also, I'm trying to score Danette because I like childhood friend romances and might be able to get into one in real life. Maybe.
IGdood
Long story segment is long. I suppose there's going to be more segments like this. Heheh, I suppose we get 2 more heroes. I see what you did there Levin's an improved Bareknuckle but I don't know where to put him. Vitali is an improved Cleric Edited March 12, 2013 by skitarii
IGdood
And the story continues. Strange new rooms. Medicine would be great for long battles but I have to leave units idle for them to actually recover stamina. Hermit Hole would be pretty good for the ultimate counterattack team, assuming the healers survive the onslaught. Serpico and Sendo will serve as bodyguards for our archer captain here. In the future they will probably be relocated to serve in offensive melee roles, as defense isn't exactly their strong suite. Except Serpico, who will basically be a speed wall. Maybe. It's time to journey to the oceanside where we shall face off with the Nereids. I do wonder if they're gonna get the big chest treatment. Meanwhile, more banter between Gig, Levin (who has a huge country accent), and Dan Whoa who the hell is this kid? And why does he have such a smug face?! Just LOOK at that smug face. I want to kick him so bad. Seems to be no shortage of bandits in the place. Serpico looks pretty fucking smug too, but the good kind. Archers and Mages can actually attack from a distance. However, only units who are capable of ranged attacks in their current room position will participate. In other words, only Latula will be shooting her bow here. Note that we have the attack disadvantage. We gotta train up our third room. I let myself and Merrigold stay back. Merrigold debuffs enemies to make it easier for Latula and co. to kill. Sometimes the AI is retarded and decides it has a better chance fighting me instead of our trainees. It's like they don't want Latula to level up or something. Sendo is such a punchy fucker. He does a double punch followed by a kick. 1-2 step motherfuckers. Eventually all the wolves/phynxes are eliminated, and we advance. Archers can buff the range of their attacks. Sadly this does not prevent counterattacks. The HADOUKEN is the ranged attack of the Bareknuckle class. It's highly damaging and killed Sendo in one shot. A knife to the head kills our resident pet, leaving only our thug to defend the front line. Merrigold continues to weaken the enemy to make them easy killing. Let's try out the archer special attack. Instead of only attacking the leader, the special attack targets everyone on the field after the basic attack run is over. IGdood
ION CANNON Just a scratch. The remainder of the battle is just mop up. Edited March 17, 2013 by skitarii
IGdood
This must be a trap. I know it. The Nereids think we're thieves. We're here to commit genocide, actually. Only kill half? Seriously? While XCOM squad is pretty much powerful as all fuck, I still like to buff myself because using skills improves them in true Nippon Ichi fashion. So it seems the Nereid unit can buff accuracy and attack. They're pushovers, honestly. They don't seem to be in the class triangle. Magic units don't do additional damage to them, and ranged units don't perform less damage. BUBBLES BUBBLES Triss is a beast Nereids jab pretty hard, but their defenses are lacking. Their mid-row attack also does a fair amount of damage. I guess I can call them "balanced offensive". BEAST MERRIGOLD Debuffs aaaahhh This WAS too easy. Dan has a point. IGdood
IT'S A TRAP Nothing to do but to report back to the boss. That damn kid baited us. New rooms here. I don't like Sinner's Cell..... After 10 minutes of changing rooms, I finally get one that has more than 4 open positions and allows me to keep Merrigold's previous formation. Who the hell? I have a feeling the next battle will be horrible. Equipping some decor. Back to Raide we go.. Let's have some fun. I may be a hero but I'd like to abuse the common man every once in awhile. Random facts on nereids, probably may become a plot point later on. Maybe. Banter banter banter. Everyone just loves to abuse Levin the country hick. IGdood
STORY TIME. LEVIN IS BUTTMONKEY What I like about the story is that the lines aren't clear-cut. Christophe seems to be good but he's more concerned with his city. Gig is supposedly a mass murderer but there's a sort of human side to him where he enjoys his hotpods and teasing Dan. I knew the next battle is gonna be hectic.
Rehab
Reading as you update, mostly, for the record, and enjoying. Neat arrow fire CG. I forget, is it the first one you're come across?
IGdood
That level 3000 boss is awake. Shit's about to go down. Wow, this guy looks badass. He has pistols too! Did you just make a superman reference? Hey dude don't get us involved! Well, time to fight our way out of this mess. And damn, I wasted my room decor for nothing. Haggard Man is extremely high-leveled and is stealing my exp points. CUT THROUGH THEM Note to self: Don't piss off NPCs in town She got killed hard by Haggard Man Los Banditos hold their own. That's because the soldier unit is mostly shit. Unfortunately Latula's attack is too low to hurt an armored knight..... BUT XCOM WINS Knights can be purchased now. They have horrible Resistance, but high defense, hp, and attack. I can now use 4 rooms!
IGdood
Reading as you update, mostly, for the record, and enjoying. Neat arrow fire CG. I forget, is it the first one you're come across? Thanks! And I believe it is! We're thrown straight into the action in the next story mission. No way I can stay behind and kick their asses. Thorndyke's level 12. Haggard man whhhhyyyyy Raise my ACT, move 2-3 more tiles! Merrigold will hold them off. Latula can be a meatshield too. If they get in the way, kill them! THAT was quick. Our Sepps rush on ahead, and... We get a new room. Who the fuck?! MUH ROOM. CHanged my own room so it ha 5 spots now. Placing myself in the back for extra security. Hired a knight. We're lost and WHAT ARE THOSE Plants appear to.......look mean. There's only 1-2 per squad, so I think I can take them on. Bad vibes pls Holy shit these guys act like artillery TAKE COVER BURN EM PUNCH PLANTS TO KILL THEM. I will certainly remember this in real life. Each squad takes a corner in the map. Playing defensively, I keep my army in full health.
IGdood
The hero, aka me, uses a fireball blast from his sword when place behind the front lines. Still doesn't match the Pyremage's fireball. MOTHER OF FUCK GET IT OFF OF ME As long as I stay in the forest where I get +10% defense so my men don't die from the initial attack, I'm alright. I do wonder. If they ran so fast, HOW did we get here at the same time they did? The game mentions this, but never answered. Oh guys quit talking, we're probably surrounded. HAGGARD MAN So his name is Endorph. Eh's a pretty nice/cool guy. They sure have some interesting things to say. FOOOOOOOD WELL, THIS IS HAWKWARD
IGdood
Even the Endorph is amazed at my split personality. More awkward moments
IGdood
We make peace, fortunately. But with strings attached. BROMANCE. With 2 and a half men Cue fade to black, and we see another of Gig's dreams. Maybe this explains why he's merely affably evil. Just following orders. WE MOVE We are waylaid by bandits once more. Except they're a balanced bunch. Luckily my army is balanced. Edited March 28, 2013 by skitarii
IGdood
THEY BROUGHT BACKUP Merrigold will hold the bridgehead against the phynxes and bareknuckles whilst XCOM squad rushes past and assaults the archers. The mages attempt to cross the river, and therefore Latula's squad will wade in and shoot them to death. FUCKING LOVE LAST ACT + DEATH CHARGE Latula squad still takes a beating since Pyremages are so damage-oriented. Items are required to restore HP because the cleric alone can't cut it. While expending stamina allows you to use skills, when it's too low your combat ability begins to suffer a lot. Therefore I restore XCOM's stamina. OH GOD HELP HEAVY FUCKING CASUALTIES Adding the knight to XCOM unlocked a new skill: Storm Duo. It hits the edges of an enemy formation, and in this case ended the mission. Requirement: 2 melee units + 1 magic unit. I guess Dan didn't count.
IGdood
It appears Raide is a pretty average place. High taxes are such a turn-off. Hey it's Dio! And he wants to kick our ass. Dio's henchmen are mostly pushovers except for the ones who got lines. Those fucking Phynxes dodged most of my attacks despite the type advantage! CHARGE ACROSS THE BRIDGE I might have summoned Latula too early, what with all the invisible guys running around. The sheer amount of enemy dodging reaches ridiculous levels. Vitali is our first casualty, being ripped apart. Without a healer, Los Banditos will have to waste each turn healing using items. We are winning, slowly but surely. Latula takes one too many knives in the head, and her squad is destroyed. STOP. FUCKING. DODGING. The battle has grown long, and we must restore our stamina. Dio summons a pain rune. I think it's a bad idea to stay under that circle. FINISH THIS, MERRIGOLD
IGdood
Dio survives Ignus Zenos. His counterattack does heavy damage, and if it weren't for an enemy swordsman that attacked later, Dio could've finished off Merrigold. Standing on the pain rune hurts. DIE DIO. AND GESTAHL Poor, poor Dio. New rooms, and I suppose I can get my own plant artillery now! After a certain amount of battles the Bad Vibes can be fought with and you can get a prize. I also upgrade the merchants. Oh hey, it's the guy who got fired. Here we go. More fighting. I speed past the soldiers and summon Latula. Probably not a good idea. Hey what are these hooded-HOLY SHIT THEY CARRY NUKES Those tech chicks will pose a threat to Merrigold. WHATEVER SUMMON HER ANYWAYS Nuke chicks have very low defense. Def up? No problem Pyremages use INT. Latula buffs herself. I need more ranged units in the room since on her own she's doing very little counterattack damage. Will have to rectify soon. Meanwhile Merrigold's level is high enough such that she doesn't get insta-killed by archers. Winged enemies? BRING IT. GOTTA GET ALL DEM ARCHERS THE NUKE KILLED OUR CLERIC NOOOOO
IGdood
Debuffing Galahad, in case Merrigold gets killed by an unlucky critical hit so I can deliver the killing blow. And I should've killed these soldiers long ago. Latula dies, and our resident XCOM healer bites the dust also. The winged girls hit hard, but they miss. Stupid axe users. THIS BATTLE NEEDS TO END QUICKLY Deja Vu? Damn, guess you can't take on the whole garrison of a city. Huh, so that's what they're called! Pit Boss and Clown Room seems great for tanking. The plot thickens....
IGdood
Not satisfied with a thickened plot, it decides to congeal. So this is Dio's ancestor.....perhaps. Oh Gig.
IGdood
SCHWING dat blood Shauna? That gypsy-like chick? Looks like she's next.
IGdood
But before we go after Shauna, I figure we should upgrade our army a bit. Must test drive these units! Latula's squad gets an upgrade. Now they'll be decent in a firefight. It's also possible to recruit units at higher than level 1 at a higher cost, but about 1/3 of their pre-paid levels will not have stat growths. Bought another cleric in preparation for room #4. However, before we get into the thick of things, let's do Inspections. Inspections is your way to grind and level up units by clearing randomly generated levels with randomly generated conditions. However, each level will have a "boss" squad that's pretty high leveled. Usually you either have to survive X number of rounds in the level OR kill the boss to move on. Clearing a level will upgrade the room's ability: Ex: Clearing levels in a Gladiatorium will upgrade the bonuses Death Charge provides. Clearing 20 levels I think unlocks another tile in the room so you can put more people in there. Here's a random training montage. I love the explosions. NOTE: Inspections do NOT use up room decors, so you can stack up on the bonuses and keep grinding to your heart's desire. However, the enemies are generally much harder than story mission foes. Note to self: Saboteurs die way too easily. Clear levels, get money. Get money, buy decor. Equip decor, beat merchant. Buy better decor. Go back to Inspections. Repeat cycle until new units' levels are on par with the veterans. One thing I like about Soul Nomad is the ease with which a new level 1 unit can be trained. You can put the fellow in the middle/rear of your squad where he/she will mostly remain out of harms way. Any kills the squad makes will earn exp. In other words I switched clerics and switched out Serpico. ALRIGHT SHAUNA TIME TO DIE RIP town guard
IGdood
Shauna's forces were no match. They threw themselves at us like the jackals they were, and we held the line. After getting rid of the melee units, I summon Latula so she can take care of Shauna's mage guards. Their INT was buffed but their full stamina means they won't be using Ignus Zenos on me anytime soon. Shauna is my bitch. Wait what? She's still standing with her personal guard? Ridiculous! I fried her to a crisp! Levin's sister....is a complete Southern belle in voiceacting.
