Garnef
Well this is fairly interesting. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2013/09/12/lobsters-may-be-answer-to-immortality/ Edited September 15, 2013 by Goriya
Original Alear
I wonder if this "telomerase" is also behind why lobsters taste so damn good.
Camilla
It figures something creepy looking/bad tasting would be the key to immortality. :<
Ϲharlie
Interesting, but... The Sun? That isn't exactly the most reliable news source. I'd have to do some more research on this topic.
deleted35362
>"answer to immortality" *facepalms and loses more brain cells* otherwise when this becomes practically implemented into society, it's going to be chaos. the world is already overpopulated. i wouldn't want to live in that world. ... >"prevent cancer" ...i'm not very health-saavy, but isn't cancer an overpopulation of cells in the body? Original Alear
@April: Telomeres (see the name telomerase) are pieces of the chromosome that IIRC decay first, before other genes. The idea is that you get less decay of important parts of the gene as long as you still have your telomeres, but eventually they go away as you get very old. Then, the decay of important genes can often lead to too much growth, creating cancerous cells. That's roughly what I remember from high school bio, anyway. I assume lobsters are good at preserving or renewing their telomeres because of this telomerase...
