Junkhead
Can't exactly buy both versions at the moment. So I'll have to go with either one... Pros FE9 US: ...It's in English. And I'm also interested the story, other than gameplay. Yes, I know I could always come back to SF or the emulated version if I wanted to know ore about the story- But that defeats the purpose of having the actual game, on console. FE9 JPN: Maniac Mode. Huge plus, almost a real winner (EDIT: I also kind of have faith I can hack it with the English Patch, through homebrew...) Cons: FE9 US: No MM. Anything below that just feels easy/too easy. FE9 JPN: It's in Japanese, lol. Another issue is that I'm not 99.9% sure if you can use some homebrew channel to run it on an American Wii (since I'll probably need to buy some things, to make it run on my American GC). Junkhead
I want to see if I can patch FE9 JPN with the English patch, via Wii homebrew or something.
Tables
I've been playing Maniac for the first time, recently. Sadly my Laptop can barely emulate it - I get framerates of ~15-20 FPS regularly, even with frame skip at max, and it's frozen once or twice. But the gameplay itself is WAY more fun than English - even Maniac isn't really that hard (Of what I played, up to it crashing in chapter 11), but it puts English to shame for sure. Ciarre
I'm pretty sure you can use homebrew to run Japanese FE9. I burned English FE9 and played it that way and homebrew allows for region bypass too so that's not going to be a problem. Japanese FE9 for sure! MisterIceTeaPeach
Don't worry about Japanese language. I could manage FE12 for the DS without any knowledge of Japanese. The icons of the items and weapons helped me very fast to understand the gameplay. But if you can patch it, even better! The only one main difference between easy and normal mode in FE9 is that you get more expereience on easy mode. I think, that's it. The number and stats of the enemies and bosses are the same in both difficulties. So easy mode is not really necessary. I only own the EU version of FE9 and I really would like to get a JP-version as well because of maniac mode, but I have no idea, if it's possible to play it with a non-JP-Gamecube/Wii. I cannot emulate on my laptop. So I recommend you to buy the JP-version. Edited June 12, 2014 by TalesOf Hysteria
Junkhead
I just went with FE9 JPN. I can definitely get it to work. I'll find a way to patch it, as well... EDIT: Playing a Japanese FE isn't a concern because I don't understand the mechanics...it's more about reading and enjoying the plot, if anything.
