Hong
They sketched female Soldier design for Awakening that I don't think they used for any actual units, so I hope it means they at least considered them back then. Hope to see them again.
TacticalAzure
Next to Heroes/Mercenaries, the Soldier/Halberdier class is one of my favorite classes ever. I would love to see them playable outside of 9/10, but it doesn't seem likely
weso12
I want halberdiers back because it was weird to me that in FE13 that we had a tier 2 infantry class that only uses Swords (Swordmaster) a tier 2 infantry class that only uses Axes (Berserker), a tier 2 infantry class that only uses Bows (Sniper), a tier 2 infantry class that only uses bows and a tier 2 infantry class that only uses tomes (Sorcerers, remember magic isn't it's own weapon rank) but their is not tier 2 infantry class that only uses Lances (infant the only non-armored infantry lance using classes we get in FE13 are the Villager, the bride and the Great Lord) it's really noticable when the class they give lancefaire to is the falcon knight. Halberdiers fill a niche that while doesn't need to be filled is still nice to have.
Wayward Alchemist
Yes, I hope against hope they will return. I've never played POR or RD because I don't have acess to a GameCube and I can't play RD without first playing POR, but I really hope they return. We have two units in Awakening who are locked into Swords and Axes (Hopefully everyone knows I am referring to Swordmaster and Berserker) that are faster, but squishier forms of their other promotions (Warrior and Assassin), so we should have a Lance user to complete the triangle. Soldier should promote to General, too. I think that Halberdiers should be stronger than Swordmasters, but weaker than Berserkers, but be slower and less skilled than Swordmasters and faster and more skilled than Berserkers to represent their truely mastered weapon. They could also have the highest Defense of the three. They could steal Lancefaerie from Falcoknight and have another unique offensive skill, like something that gives them +1 to all stats for each unit they defeat in Enemy Phase. It could be called Momentum or Morale or something. The effect would wear off each turn though.

Rothene
If they bring in the soldier class, hopefully they provide soldier skills that works around 'formation fighting' like bonus battle stats within 1~3 squares of allied units as opposed to skills that make them one man armies. Thus a single soldier caught alone is 'weak' but with allies around they become better.
Luchi
I don't care. Never liked the class ( and Nephenee is stupidly over-rated in both FE9/10 in any case :\ ).
ErrantDShepherd
I'd be down for it. I personally dislike when there are enemy only classes, especially when some of those classes were playable in previous games.
darkkfan
I love soldiers and definitely think they should return. I think there should be faster versions of each weapon type locked for weapons. For instance, there is already Sniper and Swordmaster branch over Bow Knight and Hero, and I think adding the Berserker and Halberdier branches would help even out the weapon types. Also, as someone earlier said, I think making Soldiers branch promote into either Halberdiers or Generals makes perfect sense.
NekoKnight
I'd very much like to have them back but highly doubt their inclusion. The new classes will likely be brand new ones and IS seems determined to keep Soldiers the cannon fodder enemy. I had hoped to see Soldiers restored as playable units that could promote to Dragoons (Lance specialists) and Sentinels (Lance and Bow). Ehh, I don't care one way or the other for soldiers, but if they do come back I'd rather that they didn't promote to dragoons. So many franchises have used "dragoon" that it's become a staple of jrpgs. Halberdier is a much more unique sounding class than dragoon, and I'd like fire emblem to keep its uniqueness. I swear it's like spears were specifically made to hunt dragons or something.

Well, you can't deny the influence of Final Fantasy. :) I'd be happy enough with another name but Halberdiers don't even use halberds so that could use a change. And yes, spears are specifically made to hunt dragons. I happen to be an expert on this topic.

Those guys used spears a lot, and weren't too heavily armored. Actually you'll find sword axes are better suited to the task.

We could always just rename it as Sentinel, since I personally find the return of third tier classes unlikely. (Hoplite sounds cool, but I don't think it exudes the sense of a more powerful unit like most promoted class names.) I think it'd also be cool for Soldiers to be able to promote to Paladin as well as Halberdier/Sentinel, sort of like a Mercenary -> Hero/Bow Knight kind of path. Another name I like is "Legionary" which gives an elite sounding vibe. Plus it would fit with the new roman themed western army in this Fire Emblem. Also, small cat Laguz wearing Beorc armor confirmed for playable characters.

Makes it sound like the most durable of the single weapon classes which is cool to me. You could give them a bit of both the resistance tank and dodge tank roles to reflect this, maybe some support skills...At this rate I'm going to have to make my own class list soon. Don't forget about the bonfires confirmed a little beforehand.
Melissa
Do you think they'll be a separate class from Knights like in FE9/10?

The latter is a solid wall that can tank physical hits and the former would be quicker and have enough resistance to handle enemy mages. One skill I had in mind was something that enhances terrain bonuses.
Magical CC
Why not? Consider Japan loves their blade-on-a-stick weapons and the Roman is no slouch at that either. If you ask me, it's the axe users that will be cut down.
NinjaMonkey
Even though I'm a fan of Nephenee, I don't really care about the Soldier/Halberdier classes being playable or not. All they are is an Armour Knight/General with less HP, defence and strength, and more speed, more movement and lance-locked.
lonelyVoxel
Generic female allied soldiers follow Emmeryn down the streets of Ylisse's capital in the events before chapter 2 in Awakening. They wore lighter armor than regular Knights, so maybe it's a thought in the back of IS's head?
