#1: Numerical series

Replace the ? by the correct number:

#2: Calculation:

You have to replace x and y by the correct numbers so this calculation works. Each x and y has to be replaced by one and the same number but x and y have to be a different number.

We can infer that x > y, as y > x would lead to a negative answer and there is no negative sign. This gives us three equations that must be true

10 + y - x = x

9 + y - x = y

x - 1 - y = 0

from the subtraction rules for each of the digits from right to left. Solving each for x results in:

x = 5 + (y/2)

x = 9

x = y + 1

Double checking with y = 8, equation one remains consistent with equation two.

x = 9, y = 8

Question #3: Word problems

On a friday evening Chrom and Sumia went to the cinema with their children Lucina and Cynthia and their adopted child Noire.The two parents cost exact as twice as much as their children. Noire for being heavily handicapped had to pay 3$ less than her sisters. Also on Saturday and Sunday was family day which means that everyone got a discount of 25%. In the cinema they bought a bag of popcorn whose price was exactly the half of Noire's entrance. All in all the family had to pay 40,50$ for this fun evening.

  1. How much does the popcorn cost?
  2. How much % is the discount of a heavily handicapped person compared to a regular child?
  3. How much would have the family pay, if it went to the cinema on Saturday?

Alright, I've done some work on this one, and I'm seeming to get some weird numbers with my set-up. And because I can't believe that the price of the popcorn is $.84, I'm going to ask a question before I explain my current reasoning:

Is the price of $40.50 including the price of the popcorn?

I have a different result.

Anyways the popcorn is included in the 40,5$ but not for the 25% discount on Saturday and Sunday (only applies to watching the movie).

Put variables for everything you know and euqal them with 40,5$.

In 3. I guess you only miscalculated the reduced price of the handicapped person. Otherwise the calculation is correct.

Well, I'm bored.

Here's another riddle for you:

Question #4: Calculation 2

a + b + c = 15

+ + +

d + e + f = 8

+ + +

g + h + i = 22

= = =

20 13 12

Each letter has to be replaced by the numbers 1-9 once. It's not allowed to use a number multiple times. The addition has to be correct horizontal and vertical. I guess there might be multiple results possible but one solution is enough of course.
