The song in Tales of Vesperia when

Don Whitehorse and Raven die and then karol has a complete breakdown

is completely heart wrenching. Its so sad yet I love it so much *goes to listen to it*

Breath of Fire 3... There are several times in the game with sad music, and when I was a wee little non-corrupted child it made me feel tingly, like the sad tingly feel.

Plenty of FE7 tracks. One of the reason it's my favourite FE game is the way it expresses sadness. Example:

-Grieving Heart

-Beneath a New Light

-Any Ninian or Nils related songs

And from some other games:

-End of Despair, FE4, called End of the Lost Mind in some sources

-Part 1 Map Medley, FE4

-Ending Parade, FE4

-Zelda's lullaby, OoT. Especially after you see the post credits scene.

-Mining Melancholy, DKC 2

Beneath a New Light isn't exactly a sad song. It's more of a lighthearted theme if you ask me. (Even though it originated from Fire Emblem VI)

But as for me, what I consider sad...

From Fire Emblem VII:

Requiem

Recollection of a Petal

Shattered Life

Respite in Battle

From other games:

Maiden of the Dark (Fire Emblem VI)

Burden of Truth (Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII)

A Hyrule Castle theme remix in TLOZ: The Wind Waker (The one that plays when you beat the final boss)

Love Theme (Metal Gear Solid IV)

Midna's Lament (TLOZ: Twilight Princess)

Sky-Blue Eyes (Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII)

Price of Freedom (Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII)

I'll post up more when I can think of more, but nowadays, there will be times I may choke up just by listening to the song entitled "Respite in Battle". (It fits the scene in which it plays so perfectly.)

No it starts out lighthearted but the later half part seems a little said though.

I personally think the FE7 version sad from every the first note, or at least bitter sweet. The light-heartedness comes from the attitude the sadness is faced with, which is where the title "Beneath a New Light" comes from, IMO.
