ExaltedViolinist
LeafGreen: Squirtle HeartGold: Chikorita Alpha Sapphire: Torchic Platinum: Piplup Black: Oshawott White 2: Snivy X: Chespin Sun: Rowlet As you can see, I seem to have favoritism for Grass and Water types. There's never been a Fire starter that I liked better than either the Water or Grass starter except Torchic. I'd love if the next starter I picked was the Fire type one, but I always go for a favorite, and not based on what I need, so only designs will tell! Sage of the Mist
On 2/19/2018 at 5:34 PM, Levant Mir Celestia said: Gen 1: Grass (Bulbasaur's evolution line has good matchups against most gyms) Gen 2: Grass Gen 3: Water (Mudkip's evolution line is decent to good for the entire game) Gen 4: I've used all of them, so I can't really decide Gen 5: Water Gen 6: Grass Gen 7: Water (I like Primarina's mermaid aesthetic; the same cannot be said of its gender ratio, however) Agree with you about the gender ratio, as someone who likes to have a fully female (For the most part) team i find starters to be a complete time suck considering how long it took me to go through the same cutscene every time just to see if i got lucky. I think it ultimately took me 2 hours to get a female popplio with a mild nature.
Anomalocaris
Blue: Squirtle (Wound up losing my Blastoise halfway through for complicated reasons, but thankfully I actually had a solid team going so it wasn't a big deal) Gold: Cyndaquil (I only raised that Cyndaquil and thus got stuck at Clair's gym. I then replaced it with an Octillery and only used Octillery for the rest of the game, even beating Red. Somehow my sense of team building atrophied between generations and wouldn't come back until Gen IV) Ruby: Mudkip (Only used Swampert the whole game, which worked out surprisingly well aside from Sidney's Cacturne's Needle Arm) FireRed: Squirtle again (This was the last game where I used only my starter; all future games featured balanced teams of six Pokemon) Diamond: Piplup HeartGold: Cyndaquil again White: Snivy White 2: Oshawott, but ditched for a Sewaddle immediately. Y: Chespin Omega Ruby: Mudkip again Sun: Rowlet Ultra Moon: Popplio, but ditched for Grubbin and Cutiefly immediately as part of an all-Bug team. Also, for bonus points: Colosseum: Croconaw XD: Chose Jolteon as my evolution So it seems like I have a few rules; I only actually use the starter Pokemon in the first games and not sequels/third versions. I also always re-use the same starter in remake games. And it seems like I favored Water early on, but shifted to Grass as of Gen V.

Pixelman
Only the games I legally own and have completed bar Yellow/White 2 (I started a new game on it)/Sun, which I have not completed: Red: Bulbasaur Yellow: Pikachu of course Leafgreen: It was Charmander and it was a level 76ish Charizard before my little brother deleted my save so I went with Blastoise the 2nd time Pearl: Turtwig Platinum: Piplup Heartgold: Poor chikorita gets screwed by Johto but I love her anyway Black: Snivy White 2: Oshawott Y: Froakie Sun: Rowlet As you can see I generally don't consider the fire types Edited August 26, 2018 by Pixelman
Psyflake
Usually the Water and occasionally the Grass. The only Fire I picked was Cyndaquil thus far.

Robin126
Welllllll I normally end up ditching my starter Pokémon at the begaining of the game. I'd like to say it was because I enjoyed the challenge, but normally it was just because I found another Pokémon of the same type that I liked better. Blue: Squirtle Crystal: Chikorita Sapphire: Mudkip Leaf Green: Charmander Diamond: Turtwig Black: Tepig Black 2: Oshawott X : Fennekin Omega Ruby: Torchic Moon: Litten
vanguard333
FireRed: all three (multiple playthroughs, used a different one in each, eventually decided on Charmander) Diamond/Platinum: Turtwig. Y: Chespin on the first playthrough, Froakie on subsequent playthroughs. Omega Ruby: Treecko Sun/Ultra Sun: Rowlet Wow; looking at this list, I just realized I seem to have a bit of a preference for Grass Types. I thought I didn't really have a preference when it comes to starter Pokémon. Edited September 30, 2018 by vanguard333

Dayni
I'll go with first playthrough as replays I don't think should count. Yellow: Didn't have a choice, did I? Crystal: Totodile, because best starter. Pearl: Piplup, lost the cart so I can't really remember it. Platinum: Tirtwig, though I used all three starters. Soul Silver: I may have picked Totodile again, but I actually dropped him to try a playthrough without a starter. Ruby: I am not remembering from the first playthrough. Think it was Blaziken. Emerald: I think I used Mudkip first, though my first finished used Treecko. Fire Red: From my first nuzlocke, where I picked Bulbasaur. White: Oshawott.Yep, despite the B/W Derpface. White 2: Seperior, mainly because I kind of prefer it over Tepig. Y: Fennekin. I don't have much reason. Alpha Sapphire: Treecko, I just prefer it over the other two. Moon: Poppilo, Just give it a bouncy ball. Ultra Sun: Rowlet, because Incineroar angers me and Takumon didn't.
