True, but her staff will still lower stats, which again, Blade tome users really don’t care about. She’s better off using something like Gravity or Pain, but if that’s the case then you’re better off using Maribelle who has higher Atk and Res.

As I said before Veronica’s staff really limits team building.

Why do other Weapon users care about debuffs but not Blade tomes? With the same amount of offensive buffs (4/4/0/0 or 6/6/0/0), melee units and Brave Bow archers hit much, much harder. If anything, Blade mages need debuffs, and stat advantage in general, the most out of all the offensive Weapons.

AOTB!Veronica's staff does not limit team building because everyone wants to have a stat advantage over enemies.

Every unit cares about lowering the opponent's stats. 4 free damage per hit is 4 free damage per hit regardless of your weapon.

Sure that’s useful, but why lower stats, when you can chip away damage with Pain, or stop enemies with Gravity? Blade tome users already deal immense damage, so -4 in a stats really won’t matter as most units with High HP have low Res and mosr units with high Res have low HP.

The number of times I have missed a kill by 1 or 2 HP has disillusioned me. Any source of free damage is free damage.

The top of the Arena and the hardest challenge content in the game also put you up against enemies with more bulk than you wish they had.

 

The number of times I failed to account for Wings of Mercy (in the Arena) or Vantage (in Grand Conquest) has also bitten me in the ass for using Pain.

Incidentally, did anyone ever tell you Veronica's staff also buffs all Ally Units in her vicinity by like +4 in everything after she attacks? That's hardly going against the concept of Bladetomes.

Litrblade teams are typically already running +6 to all stats, making the +4 not do anything.

That'd depend on what the player has access to though, right? If someone hasn't tried to set up a Blade team yet because they weren't sure how to go about it, didn't want to put the resources required into it because they weren't sure how good it would be for them personally, or didn't have access to everything they need for some reason, Veronica is a solid startup choice, at least until they get their hands on the stuff that'll actually get that +6 board set up.

In my opinion, Pain and Savage Blow are big no-nos in Arena. Wings of Mercy and Vantage are already a pain in the ass for most players, but those two chipping skills also activate enemies' Desperation and Wrath.

Gravity will buy you time a little time, and that is fine, but it does not actually help allies kill things.

Debuffs will help your allies kill things without setting off all of the enemies' HP threshold skills.

Relative to everyone else, they do NOT deal significantly more damage without full buffs. Running full buffs and setting it up is not always practical either. Blade mages cannot rely on activating Specials consistently while everyone else can. Blade mages, and ranged units in general, lately are also lacking in Spd, so having Spd debuffs on the enemy helps a lot.

Sometimes it is easier to just skip the Fortify skills and run only Hone skills, as setting up 6/6/6/6 is not always feasible or practical, so the 0/0/4/4 portion from Hliðskálf will still help a bit.
