  1. When it comes to the rapier I'm more curious as to how the thinnest of all sword types can be particularly effective against mounted and/or, and I think this one is even more odd, heavily armored enemies. @Elliot: Wouldn't have been a thing. Back in the Archanea era only Anri's male descendants could wield the Falchion. @Sartek: Wasn't this whole Feena-rapiers thing retconned away in FE12?
  2. The Dancer class' ability to use swords isn't something Awakening invented.
  3. If (hur) anything, she will obviously end up revealed as the game's Manakete equivalent.
  4. In an ideal world gryphon knights would become their own class. Have them start out with swords and then, say, have them gain axes upon promotion. Maybe make them a male exclusive class line too. My personal preferance would then be to have the pegasus knights and their promotions remain female exclusive and have them start with lances, then have them be able to promote to one of three classes that you can't swap between. Have one of said classes gain swords in addition to the lances while of the other two one gains the ability to use tomes while the last one has the same done for staves. Naturally, the wyvern riders will then be available to both genders and will start with axes while gaining lances upon promotion. How does this sound?
  5. @Starman: There are Wyverns in chapter 21 of FE12 and said Wyverns live in a place that is not far from Macedon at all.
  6. The reason behind all this focus is on Wrys is that he in general, and his recruitment line in particular, are something of a meme in the Japanese fandom. So yeah, this is a case of a meme being acknowledged.
  7. @Alfred: The thing is that said sort of person is exactly the sort the inclusion of waifus is usually meant to attract, especially considering how willing said sort of person would be to buy a product simply due to the mere fact that it has waifus. It is easy money and it makes sense to do from a purely business perspective but it leaves people who like the games for things other than said appeal worried that the promise of said easy money will cause the series to become only about "waifu pandering". IS got their, addmitedly necessary at the time, easy money from said demographic. The question is wether they'll continue with this attitude or not. I really hope they'll back paddle on it rather than jump in headfirst but the vast majority of businessmen would stick to what sells the most. I'm still willing to give them the benefit of the doubt at this point but, as I stated, I'm not expecting much until I see them dialing back with my own eyes.
  8. Honestly, the way I see it is that Awakening was only set in the Kagaverse to cash in on its' popularity as the biggest and original of the four current Fire Emblem universes while having the setting be a new, fifth one in all but name. It is particularly telling how they bothered to have it take place so far from anything else in the Kagaverse (chronologicaly speaking) so that little to no of the previous lore matters and they could do practically whatever they wanted. And given the newbie boom that Awakening caused I highly doubt they would want to go back to any previous setting at this point. As such, this is probably going to be the actual fifth universe and not the Kagaverse, Elibeverse, Magvelverse or Telliusverse. Though, despite the impression I might be giving of with this post, I actually wouldn't mind a fifth universe. Frankly, given the current state of affairs in regards to this franchise I think all of the previous four universes as well as this possible fifth one would be better of for it if FE14 were to be a fifth universe.
  9. My personal preference would be 'no' to both, though said reaction of mine applies somewhat more strongly to the first question and somewhat less strongly to the second one simply by virtue of the waifu thing being almost guaranteed to be done in a manner that is meant to appeal to the lowest common denominator while the avatar thing has at least a slim chance of being done in a decent manner. Sadly, given certain other companies' current track records with the terms "casualization" and "waifu milking" I'm inclined to hold little to no expectations in regards to either of the two things mentioned in the poll being done well until I see some concrete examples of these things being implemented in such a manner. My apologies for the pessimism.
  10. Based Marth!Archanea and Alm!Valentia duo, how I wish you two got more exposure.
  11. The funny thing about SMT2 is that YHWH is the final boss on all three routes of Law, Neutral and Chaos. Yes, even the Law route has him as the final boss.
  12. From what I gathered I got the impression that she ran away in shame over both what she ended up costing him and the fact that she failed (or at least that is how she percieves it) to prevent Abel's situation from ending up what it did end up being.
  13. So, having finally finished the game, I thought I'd post my thoughts on it. In my opinion, there comes a point in a game's existence where it simply grows too old to be tolerated in its current form. The standards that were in place at the time of its creation have crossed a certain event horizon and are just too antiquated in comparison to what is around in present day. Naturally, this also sets a certain bar for any remake that a game in question might have, and said bar dictates how close a remake can remain to its source material before it starts to deviate for the purpose of said remake's existence, namely being a version of the old game that is on more modern standards. In other words, this bar is what decides how modernized a game's remake must be to be viewed as an acceptable replacement by modern definitions. And this also means that the older the game is the lower the bar is. All of this can be summurized to say that Fire Emblem Gaiden, being what it is and not being graced with a modern remake, sets its bar pretty low. And such, despite any flaws that this remake might have, I consider it an acceptable replacement for the original and would recommend to at least try it if you couldn't stomach the original game.
