  1. Let me go ahead and say my problems with both of them.

In Awakening, the story seems rushed. While I'm still blind to the 3DS era, I can't give criticism on gameplay, I will say that the gameplay does seem to have a lot of the same issues Sacred Stones Has: it's too easy to grind and have a capped team way earlier than intended, and this tones the difficulty down A LOT. Take a look at Blazing Sword (FE7) compared to Sacred Stones in difficulty. unless you Arena abuse through everything, FE7 is harder than FE8. This is also true for the increased stat totals for Awakening and Fates. Every unit is viable, and while this certainly isn't a problem (Pick your team as YOU want to play), it also knocks difficulty down a bit. A lot of the criticism in Awakening is due to the Avatar character, though. The game revolves around them being a main character, as opposed to them being important. This can be done fairly, but the Avatar feels too important to older players, who enjoy watching the story, as opposed to heading it.

In Fates, the story is horrible. It revolves around how important Corrin is, and every character depends on the idea that Corrin has to be flawless in every aspect. While they try to give some characterization, it's mostly a failed attempt (A good example being Peri and Xander's supports).

The final piece that I have to say is the Casual/Classic Debate; the idea of Casual Mode teaches players to play more recklessly, and it turns a lot of people away from the older Fire Emblem Games. And while newer players may complain about Elitists bitching about deaths and restarting anyways, they learn to strategize better. In a lot of older Fire Emblem games, this trial and error method felt better to the player than a simple "Oh, Raven died. I'll get him next chapter." The idea of taking away a punishment that teaches the players to play smarter, especially to the players who learned and adapted, seems unfair to new players.

In conclusion, both games aren't bad, but they are lackluster for Fire Emblem games, and that's why they get a lot of hate from "elitists." Some dislike the new mechanics, but overall, many of the ideas that made the games more popular are more punishing to newer players, and frustrating for older players.

IDK if you have started yet, but from my experience starting a project with OoT, you tend to learn as you go.  So being resourceful of knowledge and info always helps.  Asking questions is never a bad thing, asking people for opinions on things, finding your vision.  Stuff like that goes a long way.  Above all, a good work ethic above anything else.

Fire Emblem Rom Hacking is a lot like OoT in that case. Once you pick up something, such as eventing, you tend to keep the general idea of how to do it.

  3. added to LP list. This looks really interesting, especially for a beginner Rom Hacker. The portraits could use some work.

Edit: On second thought, there's only the prologue. It looks interesting, but I feel like you're using outdated tools

  4. Chapter 1

Okay, so I really liked this chapter, though I had a few problems with the physical map, one being that the village you're meant to seize doesn't have a fence to the east; it has the roof tiles of the next house.

    Spoiler

Okay, so I did really like this chapter, and how it played out as far as map design, but the enemy cavaliers that spawned around turn 5 weren't scary enough for me to warrant really anything new, aside from RNG praying that Keena got a crit on one of them. I also think that the mercenary you get (Derrick?) should have a conversation with the boss since the two were initially allies in banditry. The next complaint I have is that the boss wasn't hard enough. I feel like maybe you should've given him something that'd have given him more of a chance against Cassius (Maybe tomebreaker?) because I would've killed him in one round with his prf tome if I didn't want Hands to get the kill.

Chapter Two will either be out Saturday or Tuesday

  5. Go one by one through the patches you used, slowly stacking them until you recreate the issue, find the last patch you applied, and decide whether it's important enough to keep in the Rom Hack and see which patch it conflicts with (Which is probably gonna be the convoy limit 200 patch). You can live without 200 items in the convoy, but in 2018, as a Rom Hack Developer, can you live without the skills system or the Str/Mag split? No? Can't live without 200 items? Find what the patch changes and see if you can repoint something to another spot in the rom.

Hard to believe that I must point it out since I believe all people already understands how the 3D motion skeleton installments works. I believe so many people laugh at your "explanation" about pointing 3D-motion-are-same-as-sprites-animation that prooving that you even never have any idea about what the 3D graphic motions is. If don't understand yet, perhaps playing "Fighter Maker" might able to help you, @Attila

Wow you sound like a cunt. "Yeah I don't get why I HAVE to point it out, and I get why everyone's laughing at you." I don't even think that anybody was laughing at my explanation?

Keep in mind I haven't played the 3DS games, as I have better uses of my money than buying a console exclusively for games I'll play once then put on a shelf. I understood when Crimson Flash told me.  It was my thoughts on how it would work from a Rom Hacker's perspective. If you want to act like I'm dense because of that, feel free, but don't write a long message that I'll likely ignore to tell me I am.

Yeah, I think the idea is he shouldn't have made it.

I gave permission to use and edit with credit, so if you displayed it anywhere public, as long as you credited, you didn't break any psuedo rules.

The only edit I would make is with the palette organization, or putting it in a way that I would enjoy more if I decided I didn't like the default palette order. Regardless, I do like the animation lmao. It's a shame no Rom Hack has used it yet.

If you need an axe armor sprite the map sprite repository has one. If it doesn't meet your needs, it can at least serve as a placeholder until you get an original sprite made.

inb4 he'd never heard of FE7x and was using a similar base to you

I didn't even think about the smiliarity between the two map Sprites when I played through the game last August.

Whoever made it very clearly stole the majority of it from bwdyeti's halbardier (and the map sprite is basically a copy as well).

Oh, then yeah I don't think that he would give permission, since it's not really his work to give.

Speaking of, did I ever show you the animation I made from your ranger without permission or credit

  11. Looking at this from the standpoint of a Rom Hacker, this would be a lot of additional work for Nintendo as they would have to make the animations for the new weapons on said classes (Which takes a lot more work since the 3DS animations have a lot more work put into them). Basically, it's probably not gonna happen unless they decide to bring the GBA style back, which won't happen because we as a community are used to the new portrait designs, and the game can't take a "Step Back" as far as the graphical quality. Even so, the games would take another month or so in development because the animations would have to be made, scripted, and prepared specifically for the games that they would be used in. In 3DS, let's assume it takes a week to make a full animation. They have to make the animations for every class with a given rank in the first place, THEN they have to make the animations with the weapon seals specifically for the people who want their archers to use axes or their healers to use Daggers. Even going back to Sacred stones, there are upwards of 70 different classes (Estimation) and maybe 50 of them are playable in the main story. Imagine having to make an animation for every weapon for every class. Ask a Rom Hacker who does animations: It can take a lot of time to do, especially if you want the animation to be good. Having to make 7 animations at the minimum, taking a week per animation, giving the listed 70 classes all 7 animations for people who cheat the enemy exclusive classes, you are looking at 7 x 49 x 7, which would take 2401 days, if I did my math right. Of course, the time would be reduced by the number of people working on the animations, but that's still a lot of time working on graphical qualities. (Keep in mind, I said 7, which means I didn't leave in the disarmed animation, which would be less work, but still time consuming).

TLDR: Good concept, not likely to happen though

    Who owns this animation?

If you're talking about the one on the left, I think a good guess is Nintendo

I think that the guy who posted it made it, but he kinda died a few months back (Not literally of course, I hope). A few people have asked about his animations on YouTube and I think he was a part of a forum, but to my knowledge there was no reply, and should he have replied, I don't think the answer was yes towards free use.

  13. If you want the one that lets thieves steal weapons, check no further than Nintenlord's Utility post. Also, it'd have probably been easier to look both of these up than spend the time to make a forum post and wait for the answers. I'm pretty sure Nintenlord's patch pops up if you google FE8 Thieves steal weapons patch or something, and I have specifically made a tutorial on inserting and preparing battle animations, Which you would only have to open YouTube for.

I'm gonna sound like a dick, but if you're going to be lazy as opposed to looking into this stuff on your own, then you don't really need to be getting into Rom Hacking; a lot of us have more to do than spend the time getting patches ready for people who want to have everything done for them. Take the time to learn your best tools: Google and YouTube. There are a number of YouTubers who do tutorials (Myself, Marc, and Ghast immediately come to mind) if that's how you learn. Don't go out of your way to make us go out of ours when there may be a tutorial and a quick fix for your problem. Regardless, I'll edit this with a quick apology when I wake up and realize I'm being a douche
