  1. The games I would want on the virtual console would obviously be games like the Operational Rainfall trilogy, Radiant Dawn and Okami. However, some lesser known games I would love to see on there would be Sin and Punishment: Successor of the Skies / Star Successor (same game, different name, depending on region) Little King's Story Muramasa: The Demon Blade Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon
  2. I've seen this game a few times on other forums, so I decided to make a thread here, since I couldn't find one. The game is very simple. Type a reason, any reason, why the user above you should be banned. Obviously it's supposed to be a joking reason. DON'T ACTUALLY TRY TO BAN THEM. So I'll start with myself. Banned for having a nonsensical user name.
  3. I don't like a LOT of foods. Though I'll list the more major ones. I'm a vegetarian, so all kinds of meat and fish. Not because of my morality, because it's fucking disgusting. The only meat I even remotely like is chicken, but even then given the choice I'd never eat it. Really thick sauces also disgust me. It reminds me of vomit, and that's never a good thing. The last big one is sweet bread. The idea of taking bread and making it sweet is one of the worst ideas possible, yet people like it. I want to eat bread because it's savoury, don't throw shit like sugar in there.
  4. I don't know if anyone has posted this here before but I'll post in anyways http://www.politicalcompass.org/, this is great because it work on two axis'. It gives a much better idea of where you stand. Here's mine; So I'm a right wing libertarian. My strongest belief is that people should be completely free from the state, and through extension of this, people that have the ability to do a task better then others, deserve that more then people who can't. The rights of the person are more important then the rights of the people sum up my views pretty well I think. Obviously, there are aspects of both sides that I disagree with. Right wing beliefs about marriage and other races irk me, and I believe that certain rules and regulations need to be in place to stop society from spiraling out of control, ie. criminality. Though as you can see, the majority of my beliefs fall under right wing and libertarianism ideals.
  5. I think it's less about a step in the wrong direction, and more about a step in a different direction. Obviously, if you were attached to the old mechanics. you'll be sad to see them go. I was annoyed when they simplified magic too, and when they removed canto, but then they also added a whole bunch of new mechanics. Double up acts pretty much exactly the same as rescue, but better, reclassing is made so much simpler, the support system is improved and they expanded upon skills. The problem though is that, yes, these mechanics are much more often seen in SRPGs, but that still doesn't mean they can't be added in well. Sure, many of these mechanics may seem broken, but it's IS' first step into mechanics like pair up. The map design was simplified to accommodate this. Maybe they've learned they can be more adventurous, and hopefully they can improve it with the next game. Personally, I blame the lack of variation in the map win requirements is the inclusion of the world map, as odd as it sounds. It would be awfully bizarre to go back to a map, only to immediately escape or defend it. I haven't played 2, but from what I hear, enemy armies can come back and attack the previously visited maps, so there, it makes sense. As for 8, the only time I remember defending was in one of the sections where one couldn't go back to the world map, so it does make slightly more sense. As for the "waifu" stuff, I think it's only made that much more apparent by the MU being able to marry and have a child, and the inclusion of child units at all. Every single fire emblem game ever has had romantic supports, but the games usually weren't somewhat centered around them. Obviously 4 being the exception. The difference here is that they aren't optional, and are extremely important to the plot. Whilst 13's time travel aspect is very apparent, it does little other then the child units and the very end. Even then there are really only three characters that are directly influenced by the time travel (not including child units), whereas in 4 everyone is involved with the child units, so it feels less "waifu"-ish, and more "plot"-ish. As for the ol' FoW, It was probably because there was too much hate going on from the community. Seriously, it has to be one of the most hated game mechanics every conceived. The people who happen to like FoW, like myself and you it would seem, are the vast exception. That or they're just very quite about liking it. Though one thing I cannot argue is overall atmosphere (Which you didn't mention). I don't dislike the newer games as much as most people, I think, but one thing I cannot deny is the lack of atmosphere that is present in the earlier games. 13 has atmosphere, don't get me wrong, but it's not the same as the other games. Atmosphere goes a long way in changing how people play, and how people think they play the game, and this is what usually causes people rationalizing with odd claims, as they're just trying to grab on to something. I couldn't even tell you what that "old" FE atmosphere is, but I know it isn't there. I would best describe it as every unit matters, preparing is extremely important, and that these mechanics are both simple and deep (even if it's not true, that's the atmosphere). Note that I am grouping ALL "old" fire emblems, so this isn't the case with every one, just common examples, imo. 13's atmosphere, if I had to describe it would be more along the lines of, each unit is capable of standing on their own, and that a good strategy is to have good tactics. Generally, I think the problems are coming from the series' lean towards TRPGs. Right now it's stuck in the middle, still leaning towards SRPG, but it's still unsure where it wants to be.
  6. ^ The problem with Lunatic and Lunatic is that they didn't feel like difficulty settings. They felt like extra game modes, like the prankster comets from Mario Galaxy or something. That's what people had a problem with, if the rest of the game was scaled with the lunatic, then there wouldn't be a problem. As for difficulty, I say go Thraica level difficulty. By this I don't mean the actual difficulty, as it would be a big leap, but more the difficulty curve. Thracia, in my opinion, had one of the better difficulty curves in the series, and that applied at a lower base would be great for a game appealing to casuals and hardcores alike. The reason I pick this over another game with a good curve, like 7, is because this is more noticeable, and I like the feeling of improvement. A seemingly unpopular opinion is that I also think that difficulty options shouldn't exist. Instead have the option to switch permadeath on or off, and to select enemy density. The density would work something like a sliding scale, with adding more enemies weakening the existing ones, and having less enemies making the remaining stronger. Instead of making the game easier/harder, it adapts it to that person's playstyle, and that's really important. I disagree with difficulty settings in general, as I think it is better to have a game that progressively gets more difficult at a tested and workable level, instead of a million different settings being made with little balance between them. Take a look at Awakening. That enemy density is just an idea, but have options that change how the player plays the game, not how the game plays. In a sense, this also creates a truer difficulty, as instead of stat boosts and general bullshit like that, it makes the player play in the way they find difficult. Notice all the bold, and this is because not everyone finds the harder modes harder. People on this very thread find lunatic easy, and that's because of how they play. The idea of changing how the game is played, with a tight, consistent difficulty slope, with an acceptable amount of wake-up bosses is what I want. Though this isn't going to happen.
  7. I am extremely disappointed nobody has said Mighty Number 9 ,Titan Souls or Hyperlight Drifter. Other games I excited for are Xenoblade Chronicles X Persona 5 Splatoon Guilty Gear Xrd (because Europe) Both Zeldas Fire Emblem If Chaos;Child (I can dream) some other things I am probably forgetting
  8. Some games I really like beside Fire Emblem, in no particular order are (Apart from 1, each time) Franchises 1) Xeno series 2) Shin Megami Tensei (bias towards Persona and Devil Survivor) 3) Zelda 3) Pokémon 4) Metroid 5) F-Zero 6) Star Fox 7) Guilty Gear 8) Smash 9) Mario 10) Touhou 11) Donley Kong 12) Disgaea 13) Soul Calibur 14) Zero Escape 15) Valkyrie Profile 16) Etrian Odyssey 17) Final Fantasy+FF Tactics 18) Golden Sun 19) 2d Sanic 20) Castlevania 21) Gradius 22) Mega Man 23) Growlanser 24) Ogre Battle 25) Front Mission Individual Games 1) Radiant Historia 2) Yoshi's Island 3) Chrono Trigger 4) Hydorah 5) Sin and Punishment: Successor of the Skies 6) Cross†Channel 7) Odin Sphere 8) ChäoS:HEAd 9) Harmful Park: High Brow Gag&Pure Shooting 10) Demon's Crest 11) Little Busters 12) Cave Story 13) Okami 14) Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea 15) nethack Companies 1) Atlus 2) Monolith Soft 3) Treasure 4) Vanillaware 5) Sqauresoft (fuck Enix)
  9. I'm wondering if this will have some sort of connection to how the protagonists summon their personas? Perhaps it will have a "save yourself" theme like P4's "accept yourself" theme. I think that sounds pretty cool personally. It would also tie in well to the crime breaking themes that the game is also having.
  10. When I first did I got 238, which is Smoochum, and got really upset until I realised that I worked it out wrong. My actual number is 135, which is Jolteon, so I'm pretty happy about that. I'm just wondering, did you make this up yourself or did you find it somewhere else?
  11. Who knows? Maybe it'll go back to the style of the first 2/3 persona games without social links, but feature something along the lines of the party social links in P4? instead of simply battle oriented perks though, perhaps they would also affect they way the apparent platforming/stealth sequences play out? Perhaps social links will be replaced with something completely different altogether that you couldn't predict. It is Atlus after all. Also, is it just me or does the man at 1:56 look a little too much like Junpei? And the whole transforming into the Personas aspect I am completely in love with. They did something similar in Digital Devil Saga, and I think it makes more sense in Persona then that game. I can understand why they didn't want to reuse evokers, and despite the fact that tarot cards made the most sense out of the two of them, I didn't personally like that concept. One returning mechanic I really want to see is Fusion Spells. Even though they didn't add THAT much to the game, I still quite liked them despite how little a lot of them made. Orpheus+Apsaras= 50% and evasion up? You can't deny the satisfaction of casting Armageddon and seeing everything die. http://www.siliconera.com/2015/02/05/persona-5-producer-shares-thoughts-trailer-characters/ This is a little late, and if you're interested in Persona 5 you've probably already read this but here you go anyway. It's a few of the thought from Hashino about the trailer and characters, and the thing I found most interesting was this, "For this game, we’re going with a challenge that fuses together a juvenile school setting that is as large as life, together with a picaresque romance. In the previous game, we wrote a story that involved having a justice group chase down a bad guy that could easily be feared by just about anyone. This time, it’s about a group of high school students that are being “chased” by unexpected occurrences due to the justice they believe in. We’re writing [the story] to convey a thrilling everyday life in the shoes of these characters, that are as large as life, in this juvenile school setting." I think that sounds pretty cool, and seems to be a pretty big thematic different from 3 and 4. I remember Hashino saying similar about this last year, and it was about the thematic colouring. All of the Persona games pick a colour to tie in with their themes, with those being, 3 ->Adolescence=Blue, and 4 ->Mystery=Yellow, and about how the Red in Persona 5 represented the characters trying to break out of societies norms. (I have no idea how blue represents adolescence or how that was the main theme of P3 but whatever.)
  12. I'd go ahead and say the "Fire Emblem", but that's predictable and boring. Instead I'm going to go for "It's Right Over this Mountain" from 13, otherwise known as the Overworld theme. I always preferred slower, mysterious tracks to louder more magnificent ones. Hell, I could out down the entire Awakening soundtrack, as it's indisputably the best in the series. The only other OSTs that hold a candle to it are from the previously mentioned Tellius games. Another one I am especially fond of for the chiptune junkies out there(like myself) is "With Mila's Divine Protection" from Gaiden. For a NES track it is surprisingly deep, and is catchy as all hell. What do you expect from a chiptune though? Anything less of an earworm and i'm disspointed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-KtXn64Hns
  13. I never really cared that much for achievements, as I always preferred more secret in-game content. Getting the Knights of the Round summon in FF7 is always going to be immensely more enjoyable than reaching the level cap of any other JRPG. When the game is outright telling you that you can go get X or that there is an optional boss Y, I think it defeats the actual fun out of finding it/killing it. It doesn't feel as much of a personal achievement anymore, it just feels like I was following orders to get something that is ultimately inconsequential to the rest of the game. It's better than not acknowledging it at all at least.
  14. I'd be down for this. Sure, count me in. Are there any level rules to stop solo running?
  15. I think that's the opposite of what Viole is saying. I think what he's trying to get across is that he preferred the fact that Mustafa wasn't that important in the long run because it felt like this is what's happening to all the soldiers? So it seems much sadder because of the fact that in the long run nobody really cares about what he did? Correct mt if i'm wrong Viole. As for my opinion, I'm all for more fleshed out characters, boss or otherwise. If the way that is going to be done is through more Camus' then fair enough. The only problem I can see is if they overuse it in 14 and it becomes bland. Personally, I much prefer the Hardin archetype, as I prefer tragic to sad characters. Whilst the majority of Hardins have been the final boss/secondary antagonist I still see no problem doing what FE10 did with Dhenginsea. The problem with this archetype is that it is much easier to make this kind of character feel forced and hackney then the Camus, due to the often "he wasn't loved" back-story.
  16. Don't tease us. In all honesty though, the thing that annoys me about all the Smash FE characters is that they're all sword users. What gives? There's tons of weapon choices, and although this was somewhat mitigated by Robin's appearance in 4, that is also mitigated by Lucina being a literal clone of Marth. It's not like there aren't lords that don't use swords either. Hector uses axes and Ephraim uses lances, and both character's games were released in English. Hell, even Micaiah is enough of a main character to get into smash. This is why an FE fighter would be great, because I believe anyway, we would get a lot of variation. Archers would have a lot of speed and range, whilst Brigands would be slow and heavy hitting etc. You could even implement promotion in the fighter, acting like a super/ultra meter or something. Perhaps there could be an equip system, where before each battle you picked out what weapon you used, that would change stats/play style. Brave weapons would allow better combos, whilst killer weapons would have higher damage but have more awkward hit boxes etc. Just spouting ideas here of course, but I think that if Fire Emblem was a big enough name, with enough work I think that an FE fighter could turn out really good. This is especially evident by the fact that IS nearly went bankrupt before 13. One can always dream though.
  17. Female: A close tie between Micaiah and DLC Celica. I also think Lucina makes a close runner up, though that's a personal dark hair bias. Next in line of course is Eirika. Male: Don't expect this entry to be educated at all, I can't for the life of me pick out good looking men. Ephraim? If I had to pick anybody it would be him. Next would be Sigurd. Blue hair + horse riding = attractive, apparently. Hey, if the man's good the man's good. People fail to realize Hentai artists still need to be GOOD. Even if they are cheap.
  18. Funnily enough, my opinions on the B route are almost the exact opposite. I prefer having low level Gonzalez, and think that the chapters are somewhat less annoying because of the extra items. I guess that Energy Ring is just really important to me. Though I can't deny the amazement that is Bartre. Dude's got a Brave Axe on recruitment.
  19. My Votes The fact that anyone voted for Chrom x lucina actually repulses me. Sibling x sibling incest I can handle, parent x child incest is a whole other matter. That's not mentioning the time travel bullshitting that would have to happen for that to occur. 13 already had problems trying to justify one way time travel, let's not try to confuse it.
  20. I'll give my two cents on the matter, even if it seems like everyone's forgotten who Roy is. I personally like Roy, and I think of him being somewhat like a more competent, less depressed Shinji Ikari from Evangelion. He's forced into this war through no merit of his own, simply because he was the only one to fill the role. He has no combat experience, and this is reflected through his bases and growths, he's not that good, and that's why seeing through with his accomplishments is so satisfying. He's supposed to be unlikable initially, at least to an extent, he's unfit to lead the war, and he knows it. He tries his best, but it simply isn't good enough, and that's why it's so satisfying when Roy finally wins. It's a classic underdog's tale, though it may not be the best written one, Roy has a lot of spunk and charisma, at least IMO, and that's what makes him so likable. Now on to how Roy PLAYS, yeah, I can't deny that Roy isn't the best unit you get, but he isn't the worst either. Far from it. I may be crazy, but I always felt like mid game FE6 had more sword users then per usual, and this helps to ease the wound a little, but not entirely. Honestly, the best thing you can do is save the Chapter 7 Rapier as long as you can, just doing THAT makes Roy immensely more usable. Also he has red anime hair, that helps a lot because it's cool. I guess.
  21. Hello, and welcome to the forum. I haven't been here long, but from what I've seen it seems to be a really nice place! I hope you have fun here. As for starting Fire Emblem games, I'd recommend FE7 (Blazing Sword), FE8 (The Sacred Stones) or FE12 (New Mystery of the Emblem). In any order you want, but I would recommend FE7 first.
  22. I am of course talking about FE6 here, and you talk about either of the A/B routes, but the one I'm more interested in are Chapters 17-20x. The reason I say this is because every time I try to talk about chapters 10-11, it just turns into a very heated, passionate and angry fight about A or B Gonzalez, so let's try to avoid that. I personally really enjoy both routes, and it's always difficult to make that decision when I play the game, but I think I prefer A route more. I much prefer Juno over Dayan, because you gotta get that Triangle Attack bro. The deal-breaker here though, is chapter 18B, because I don't really like it. That's probably a bit too tame, but I'm just holding back some painful memories. Nobody likes reinforcements, that's a given, and this chapter is the worst offender of that. 12 turns have reinforcements, often right after one another, and often spawning out of RANDOM tents. You can't even prepare for that shit, especially when the total number of enemy reinforcements is 39! How are you supposed to manage that with only 15 units? *ahem* With that out of way, I also prefer the idea of liberating a country instead of having a pleasant visit to another. Though that's a minor persuader in the long run. That's me though, what about you?
  23. These are in no particular order 5. FE6 - Chapter 14: Arcadia I know what you're thinking, "What? A desert map WITH Fog of War? No way.", and I'd have to agree with you to an extent. That's why I like it though. You're put in an undesirable map, and you have to get your self out of it. I also think people make too much of a fuss about this map, you even get a Valkyrie in this map for crying out loud. 4. FE10 - Part 1 - Endgame: Daen, Arise! As is the the case with the majority of the FE10 players, I much preferred the character of Micaiah over Tyke, I mean Ike. This is true even of her chapters, and my favourite by far is her endgame. I am personally a very big fan of constricting maps, if you haven't already guessed, and I like the corridor design this map is going for. Sure, there's a lot of characters you have to protect, and it's kind of annoying, but shit man. I'm just trying to be different. 3. FE13 - Chapter 20: The Sword of the Knee This is another chapter with restricting map design! It's n ot as bad as other maps in the series, but it's still there nonetheless. Whilst for the most part I thought 23 had pretty lousy map design, there were a few exceptions.(The other big example being Chapter 10) This is also the chapter where 13 gets it's shit together, and gives you multiple bosses to fight. They're all VERY different bosses, and it gives an interesting dynamic, unlike other chapters where all the bosses are barbarians or something. And I guess Walhart is pretty cool. Kinda, Okay, yeah, he's pretty cool. 2. FE6 - Chapter 22: The Neverending Dream Oh, this chapter. Before I go on any further, I may be *slightly* influenced by Eckesachs' animations, but his chapter is also just incredibly fun. You also get to use the Sword of Seals, probably my favourite weapon in the entire series too. While this is hardly original, I also enjoy the way your army is split into two halves for the map. Ho rah, for asymmetrical map design! I also really like the center room design too, and the items in the chests aren't half bad either. Especially since you get a Wyrmslayer. 1. FE5 - Chapter 17A: Leonster's Gate Am I the only one who likes this map? For some reason I've always found this map really cool, perhaps it's because you get Misha and Sara, among my favourite characters in FE5, or maybe it's because Misha is a BOSS. Yeah, everyone talks about how obtaining Jaffar in FE7 is cool because he's a somewhat major enemy, but in that game, he's just a regular enemy, and, in my opinion, get plenty of foreshadowing saying that he'll join you. Misha, IIRC, hasn't got anything of the sort, especially since you have to literally KIDNAP her to use her. I also really like the map design, despite my previous entries having *restrictive" map design, this map is far more open, and I enjoy the way the castle is tucked up nice and tight in the top right hand corner. Honourable Mentions FE4 - Chapter 6: Light Inheritors FE7 - Endgame: Light FE7 - Chapter 19xx: A Glimpse in Time FE8 - Chapter 18: Two Faces of Evil FE4 - Chapter 2: Disturbance in Agustria FE11 - Chapter 24x: The Alterspire FE5 - Chapter 9 : The Emblem of Noba
  24. Wow, I thought my first run was bad, but compared to some ITT it seems like I got the good end of the stick. My first game was FE7, and I actually got stuck on the tutorial chapters, for every chapter, starting at chapter 8. I lost 5 units in chapter 8 before I went and reset. I also thought it was a good idea to not play that gaiden chapter. I thought that I was just going to get a really long cut scene full of flavour text, so I opted out. When I replayed 7 I was in shock that there was a gaiden chapter. On chapter 16x I was also extremely adamant about brute forcing my way through, despite the game insisting a hundred times to use the back door. I eventually gave up and did it the "correct" way, and felt like I had done something wrong for the entire run. I also missed on a lot of the optional units, as is to be expected, but somehow managed to get Jaffar. When I got to chapter 23, I was playing the Linus map, and thought dart could take on the pirates. Last time I ever used Dart I can tell you that. I also lost Heath on this chapter, and I was really pissed about that, because I gave the computer too much leniency in it's crit percents. I learnt a valuable lesson from that, never underestimate the crit percent. It will always find a way to fuck you up.
  25. Hello there! I'm Harry, but if you'd rather call me Splodge that's fine. Don't bother asking about the name, I took it up years ago and can't be bothered thinking of a new one with every forum I join. So don't ask me, I get that too much. Now that I've made myself seems like a total asshole, hello again! I've been playing Fire Emblem for years now, with me first one being, surprise surprise, FE7. Not too long after that I played FE6, and it's become my favourite entry in the series, partly because of the HUGE playable roster, and partly because I enjoy the massive throne bonuses, because apparently I'm really masochistic. I hope to get along with everyone here, try to not to make anyone too angry at me, and have a good time. I hope to see you all around the forum!
