It's like, crazy sudden. As soon as Kamui or other sibling learns that they are not related by blood, they just go all in. It's the sudden romance problem in a lot of these supports made even more jarring. One issue I have with romancing the Hoshido siblings is because it kind of goes against the whole thing with Sumeragi being crazy in love with Mikoto. Like, he loves her so much that he made her queen, but he didn't even have a kid with her? He just knocked up two random women after they were already married? I know that's how kings get down, but it kind of cheapens the love angle, especially when the other siblings mothers get neither names nor faces (they're all identical looking village maidens as far as we know). They even refer to Mikoto as their mother, The whole thing just kind of comes off as contrived.

Well, everything in the Smash Bros bit can be omitted, since Smash Bros is not at all canon. One Robin being in the box is because only one robin would FIT in the box. Or is Alph suddenly not Canon? Does Wii Fit HAVE a canon? Even Smash, the characters in the Palutena convo dance around saying Robin's gender, which means they hold value for both. Robin subsequent appearances in other games are a consequence of him being the default costume and thus getting the amiibo made after him. These are "toys to life", it wouldn't make sense to put Male Robin and get a female Robin. The Robin in Fates is from the world of Smash Bros, as is Ike (which is why he's the mighty glacier type), and the Awakening kids refer to him using gender neutral pronouns (apparently) The grandmaster costume is because male robin's model is already in the game. Remember, these class changes are mostly just head swaps. Also remember that in Awakening, Tactician/Grandmaster is NOT a Robin exclusive class. Any of their potential children, male or female, can also take on the class. I doubt IS will ever outright confirm the gender of any avatar as canon, because that would kind of defeat the purpose. But these are how a gender can get canonized, with examples - Robin, one explicitly from the world of Awakening, pops up in a story related event (not from his amiibo, but it could be a DLC like the Awakening level in Fates) like how Red popped up in HG/SS, making him the canon gender regardless of the choice in FR/LG. Or how Revya sowed up in a Disgaea dlc, confirming that character as female OR - Characters that actually know Robin referring to them using unambiguous pronouns, like how the Persona 3 protagonists is only referred to as male in Persona 4 Arena, confirming once and for all that P3P was non-canon (though ATLUS probably did that already), or, in reverse, Marth referring to Kris as whatever gender your Robin is Honestly, not even the name Robin would technically be canon, we would need a Yu Narukami like event to solidify that one. And these have to be in GAMES. No manga, no anime will count unless IS comes out and says "this is how it all went down gender and all" Basically, it's not a matter of "canon" it's a matter of marketability, the character needs a name and a face, and male characters are usually more marketable in these things than a female.

One thing you try to avoid is having two things share a name, especially two unrelated things in the same game. The skill was here first, so he's more likely to be changed. So what if she's named after a character from Hamlet? If I recall, that Ophelia went crazy then killed herself. I'm not seeing how the two are related. The localization might change it so that the two are named after their grandmothers, since they're all dead and stuff. I'm not saying it will happen, or that it should, I'm merely saying that it might. You wanna know what's wrong with the name Crimson? It's not a fucking name, for one. Scarlett works, Rose, Ruby, sure, but Crimson? What is she,the lead of a new Pokemon game?

It's a business move, sure, but Japan doesn't care about being pc. And on your tokenism point, this isn't tokenism. Well, ok, they were clearly added to draw in those kind of fans. Tokenism would be if being queer was a major part of their character, or if they were at least elevated to the main cast, occasionally throwing out some shallow quip to remiind the audience that yes, they are here and queer. Zero and Shara's sexuality only ever comes in S-supports. One could play through the game and the only thing telling them that Zero and Shara are bi is that they can S-support with both Kamui's. Where have you even seen hints of this happening though? There aren't reviewers knocking points off for not have black people. All kotaku said was that they found it a bit disappointing that there were no same-sex couples. That's a valid comment to make in passing. Like saying "this shake is really good, I wish it was a little thicker though". I mean it IS Kotaku. If anyone would do something like that, they'll be the first, but I doubt it'll ever happen. Eponine could be a shot at people that DO fetishize gay romance to an insane degree. Though personally, I see little difference in people that are a fan of het or homo pairings, they're fetishized similarly, so I personally find that making fun of those types (yuri/yaoi fans) to be pretty hypocritical, but that's neither here nor there at the moment. Soleil has a different problem where she's written as the Japanese stereotype for a lesbian, only instead of it being treated as a "phase" it's just straight out not taken all that seriously. In at least two supports (Kamui's and Gurei's) they find her flirting with women to be completely non-threatening to their relationship, they are only worried about her talking to other guys.

Anyway my speculation on who's getting changed, and for some, who it'll be changed to Deere -> Desmond Shigure -> Something more western sounding Luna -> Something else moon related (since there's already a skill with that name) Shinonome -> Shino Gurei-> Grey seems obvious Matoi -> Maybe something that sounds japanese and closer to Cordelia Zero -> Zio, because why not Benoit -> Maybe, I wouldn't put it pass the Treehouse to want to disassociate from any unfavorable individuals (see, Marx) Syalla -> Shara sounds closer to Tharja Ophelia -> Something closer to Lissa Soleil -> Something closer to Olivia Ignis -> Because it's also a skill name Yuugiri-> Yuko, or something silly like that Crimson -> Something that's an actual name Orochi & Oboro-> I kind feel like they're gonna change Belka & Lazward -> I hope they change

Good on Takumi for winning the poll. Can't say I have anyone I was really rooting for, I may my judgement on characters based on the localization. That said, Oboro was a bit of a darkhorse. I honestly have nothing against Japanese VAs in general, I'll just take an English dub 99.99% of the time, not only because I understand it more, but because I like how they touch up the script to pander more to my western tastes Except for DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho, those are japanese performances that just find to be truly, truly awful.

Have you seen the Vita's Library? This is like, nothing. The game can come over, as is, and will be an M rated game at worst. You can really make anything into a joke if you are good enough.
