  1. Considering that tamed and wild Wyverns really only have a physical disparity in the remakes, I would default to assuming that Iote tamed degenerated Wyverns rather than some weird subspecies that makes little sense to exist in Archanea. Then again, Wyverns are in Jugdral, which is a strange decision that's never really been explained. Awakening Wyverns could best be explained as being of the Jugdral variety, but then again it's not as if Awakening paid close attention to the old lore in general.
  2. Alright. I've got a spare Hinata and Lon'qu sitting around so I'll try that out. Thanks!
  3. I don't know if this has been covered in the prior 193 pages (most likely), but people seem to praise Xander as a great unit. Even with Horse Emblem he hasn't quite been performing well for me, though I haven't put any skill inheritance on him just yet. What builds are you guys running for him?
  4. Just listened to the final battle map. What the fuck were they thinking with the mixing and timbre choices!? And "Twilight of the Gods"? An insult to the care and craft of Wagner's operas in terms of music. How could you not? Kanazaki quotes it as often as he drinks water. I'm actually fully sick of it now, as (like Fates, but with better material) it plays at every single opportunity and insistently wants you to forget that there are other leitmotifs in this series and in this very game. I hesitate to even compare it to Awakening, which takes 3 leitmotifs and bothers to heavily weave them in and out of not just most in-game tracks but various modalities, cadences and particularly each other. I'm not a fan of most of the new material, but if the primary leitmotif didn't play every fucking second you played the game I'd greatly appreciate that it's a fairly flexible and interesting melody. In fact, when I first heard it as an extension of Alm Battle Map 1, I praised it. A better composer would have worked with the motifs already present in the game and presented those are a focal point rather than ignore all but Chapter 3 (Liberation Road- Each Battle) and Chapter 5 (Reunion, and Then...). But this is the guy who missed the key change performing "Don't Speak Her Name!" in the Cipher live stream, so what can you do? It's a shame about the finale, though, given that the trumpets, when mixed with horns and placed in a smaller British march style, really sound closer to real. In this giant bombastic orchestra/choral performance, the honky trumpet and conspicuous piano carry a tinny, GarageBand-esque quality.
  5. Dissonance can still be in tune. Dissonance in music is regarded as an instability and a need for resolution/consonance, not necessarily a "painfully disgusting noise." Without it, music has no conflict and resolution in a tonal structure; the tonic has no power without a dissonant precursor such as a leading tone or supertonic, and this is the basis of even simple tunes like "Happy Birthday." I wouldn't be as nitpicky if you just kept to a more broad sense of "dissonance" rather than specifying a musical sense of it, which correlates to tension and release akin to conflict and resolution in plot structure. Regardless, interesting ideas here. It's important to remember that Ike being of the people rather than nobility is a flavor choice, and that his general path in the plot (of Path of Radiance in particular) is borrowed from the standard Fire Emblem template, which follows a sort of "Mandate of Heaven meets Monarchist" philosophy overall. It's Radiant Dawn where he begins to slowly pull away from that template, ultimately leading him to become a ruler of nothing but his own decisions. I also agree with you that Elincia could have had a stronger presence overall in Path of Radiance, and that Part 2 of Radiant Dawn is where she finally gets to come into her own.
  6. It just struck me that since Vestaria Saga has been released, we have Kaga's email (and have contacted him about translating it). Has anyone considered possibly emailing him about what Doma and Mila were supposed to be? Might be a touchy subject still after all these years, but up until a year or two ago the idea of emailing him at all has been pretty alien.
  7. Started out Tier 8, then 11, then 14. Currently working toward Tier 17. This week's arena score is only 4573, so I might only reach Tier 16, but that's okay with me. The feather and orb rewards are quite nice, and I'd be content with 3 orbs a week from the arena.
  8. A Binding Blade remake or adapting Jugdral would be fine with with me, with only a minor preference toward Jugdral. Still, I say this with hesitancy, and I would not be saying it at all if Echoes wasn't so overall faithful to Gaiden while drastically improving visual aesthetics and story.
  9. While a few changes here and there have been bothering me and a few lines of voice acting were delivered in some awkward ways, overall the presentation and updated Gaiden game play is winning me over. Nice to see 8-4 drawing from some stylistic flourishes they used in Awakening and Shadow Dragon, and composer Kanazaki is finally beginning to prove himself now that he's had a game soundtrack behind him and some great tunes to arrange. It's just great to see people talking about Gaiden and playing it.
  10. I see. This is very useful to know when trying to understand where blame and/or praise is directed. Noted for the future, and some apologies to Treehouse on the topic of voice acting. But not for the localization. You don't get off the hook for the localization. Edit: What about Heroes? I'm far from impressed with about 80% of the voice acting there, and would like to know who was in charge of that.
  11. On one hand, 8-4 is responsible for Duma, Orsin, and Raquesis. On the other, Treehouse is responsible for Subaki, Arthur, and the Great Wall of Suzanoh. Hmm.... I'd pick 8-4 because I can't trust Treehouse to pronounce anything Japanese right. "O-BORE-o" fills me with the greatest of cringe.
  12. FE3 was also done in 1994, only a few years after the original with Kaga still on board, whereas Echoes is here 25 years later. The staff now may not have the same love for Deen as Kaga and crew probably had for Navarre and Michalis when the Famicom titles were still fairly fresh. Still, I understand where you're coming from. Truth be told, if they radically changed Mycen's design in particular, I probably would be upset.
  13. Gods above, this thread is a nightmare. While I don't have much love for the old Gaiden designs, I had trouble perusing the portraits due to inability to recognize certain characters. Most units don't have this problem, but a few (such as Atlas and Boey) were astonishingly difficult for me to identify. I wonder how the people who played this game 25 years ago are taking it? One potential reason why I see this issue popping up has to do with the earlier discussion of Archanean design overhauls. Characters such as Tomas and Gordin and the Whitewings have had two or three games over the years to refine gradual design changes, leading to a more natural branching off in their designs. Valentian characters, however, have had no treatment outside of their original debut until now, giving little attention or care for gradual updates. The new designs aren't the end of the world for me, though if the presentation of Hidari's art wasn't so smooth and lovely to look at I would probably have a more negative opinion on the design changes.
  14. Linde, Camus (technically in the game), Olwen, Arvis, Jill, Lute, Bantu, Jake, Ethlyn, Mycen, Mia, Cormag, Tauroneo Still waiting.
  15. More of the same with regards to recent Fire Emblem DLC. I just want a game to release 100% complete again.
  16. RathxJaffar is a fan-made joke support that is not official in any way. Check Serenes Forest's Blazing Sword section or boot up a copy of the game if you must.
  17. Why does that seem so out of place when they've already retconned more Divine Dragons into existence? Again, as per Xane's words, the clan is effectively dead outside of the divine dragons seen in the Archanean games. I'm well aware. That's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that, by the time of the Archanean games, Loptyr is well within the dragons' knowledge of being an exception to the "all Earth Dragons except Medeus were sealed away" story Xane spins. Exceptions of Earth Dragons surviving the war have been retconned in before. Also, regarding Loptyr being inferior, here's words from Lewyn (Forseti, who participated in the war): Lewyn: Yet Loptyr's clan wields the most diabolic power of the entire tribe. King Naga passed his own blood onto the leader of the liberation army, Bishop Heim. That was Naga's only hope to rival the Loptyrian power.
  18. Used to write it more often than I do now. My stance on it is that it is equally as creative or destructive as you make it. If you have interesting things to say in terms of the themes and ideas of the original work, you can choose to use that setting as a way to comment on or expand the original concept. The biggest reasons why fan fiction is generally disregarded is due to the lack of an original setting/characters and the low quality that tends to come from the former already being provided. Original works tend to have editors, extra staff, and general standards through attempting to sell copies, which is a barrier of entry that fan fiction rarely facilitates. However, I have found some fan fiction that has challenged me more than a lot of the new works being put on the shelves in the bookstores.
  19. While I agree that he looks like a dragon, the semblance in the battle sprite can be difficult to make out to the point where people deny it. I will concede that point, however.
  20. My point is that them being dragons at all is sketchy at best, with the only indicators from the old canon being association with the earth element. If you want to play the "Earth Dragons all went insane/died in the war" card, then the Divine Dragons follow this too, as mentioned by Xane (quoted by Emperor Hardin above). Doma wasn't just a slime monster, he's referred to as an earth spirit. Mila wasn't just a statue, she's referred to as an earth goddess. Also, Loptyr is a great example of old canon sneaking in exceptions to the stated Archanean canon, as Loptyr neither took manakete form nor went insane and was sealed away, a fact Naga was aware of yet unmentioned by the remaining dragons in Archanea. I would argue that Earth Dragons who are not only passive of humanity but actively attempting to guide it would be a far, far more unique aspect of grey morality. Despite all this, Mila's manakete form doesn't even match prior Divine Dragons anyway (if anything, her tail is more like an FE3 wyvern's than any Divine Dragon we've seen in the series). This whole direction is a mess overall, though I can at least appreciate the developers' attempts to better streamline Valentia and Ylisse into the Archanean/Jugdrali lore.
  21. No green hair for Doma and Mila in the original Gaiden. That's retroactive information in light of the remake, which ignores major cues from the original that they were likely earth dragons (if they were even dragons at all). They've shown repeatedly that they're willing to change old canon, as Emperor Hardin has pointed out above re: sealing Mila into Falchion (and just Falchion in general).
  22. A character can be a symbol/demonstration of a game's themes while actually having more than one single trait. That's no excuse for how poorly Faye is written.
  23. Can someone tell me why two dragons that have Greek names (akin to Medeus, an Earth Dragon), heavily affect the crops and the earth with their powers, have been referred to as an "earth goddess" and (from the English patch of Gaiden when Doma casts Megaquake) an "earth spirit", and whose final battle music contains a leitmotif from Medeus' enemy phase music, are divine dragons?
  24. Spoilers for Echoes: I personally like dragons being meddled with or involved via human faults rather than being inherently good or evil overall. They can exist and have a massive affect on human civilization and world around them, but conflicts invoking them should be drenched with human error and characteristics.
