Sifer
Of course you can gene mod Rikku she needs to be eugenizised to be as much beast as possible. Also Rikku looks cute as a agent paste and search: Rikku is like our resident covert operative - My people keep on dying... especially the rookies. This might have something to do with assigning them point man duties and they being the one with the tazer.
IGdood
Finally got it. My majestic first try failed during the asdf chrysalid ship -.- Q_Q Of course you can gene mod Rikku she needs to be eugenizised to be as much beast as possible. Also Rikku looks cute as a agent paste and search: Rikku is like our resident covert operative - My people keep on dying... especially the rookies. This might have something to do with assigning them point man duties and they being the one with the tazer. XDDDDD Last update for tonight So previously we were testing out new tools on EXALT. Needle grenade is nice and all but 3 damage is too low. Well that went by a lot easier than the first one. Also, we got a new guy. He tries so fucking hard he wears a cap. NOW THE HARD PART (?) BEGINS Materials relevant to capture are fabricated. This is for Rikku just because a necklace that puts holes in your neck is kinda cute A SHIV is kinda cute too I change Integrity's clothing because this fits the white better. Weir gets a different armor skin FUCKING FINALLY THE GAME GIVES ME A CANADIAN MALE ASSAULT We gotta go deeper. We gotta save China. ALPHA AS FUCK Balcerzak draws first blood. Integrity tosses a flashbang because BANGER OUT GO GO GO GET ON THE FLOOR YOU FLOATING PIECE OF SHIT AAAAAAAH *BZZZZZZZZT* As the fighting continues we bag a muton and JIM JONES celebrate because he is ALPHA AS FUCK by KILLING A THIN MAN WITH FIRE He even says in game, in his robocop voice... "KILLING IT WITH FIRE" ONCE MORE PROMOTIONS Weir's medical training takes a dark side. Balcerzak scoffs at grenades and RIkku takes advantage of anything boosting her accuracy. ALL THIS RESEARCH AND NO FUCKING TIME UFOs now land, so we can expect heavy resistance, perhaps. Princess K runs around and jacks Meld. Due to shit terrain cover, we had no choice but to let some Seekers come to us. Unfortunately Weir was nearly choked to death and a Mechtoid (one of EW's new enemies) shows up. Of course, he gets fucked 6 ways from Sunday before he could kill anyone with his twin heavy plasma guns Wilson has a streak of missing. So he gets fed up with the RNG and kills with grenades. I try my best not to give too many kills to the SHIV. It fires only when needed. And we bag an Outsider because we can. Our last group was a trip of Mutons. Flashbangs, lasers, and a pistol take care of them. Reaper rounds take care of the coward that fled. Princess K enjoys your surprised face. Wilson enjoys executing motherfuckers with a pistol. Shen 1-ups Vahlen because engineering NO IMPORTANT PROMOTIONS Rikku's about to get new eyes. THIS RESEARCH NEEDS TO GO BY FASTER The council has summoned us once more. New guys are with us, let's hope it goes well. That's a long way to go. You know...it's not fucking cool to open the door to see 6 Thin Men staring at you. Fuck shooting, this battle is about TOTAL ANNIHILATION The supports were busy stunning a Thin Man that tried to get us from the rear....and this leads to Cid getting fucked. He was brought back, thankfully enough. Also, poison sucks. Under the cover of smoke, we burst forth in a roaring rampage of revenge. I mean, everyone's so riled up Hunter Wilson managed to kill with his assault rifle from a distance and with a CRIT. And everyone knows he never hits. Overwatch and lucky shots are reminders that MECs can and will sustain heavy damage. VICTORY IS OURS. And promotions, sort of. Hunter needs more defense because his accuracy is low and therefore crits wouldn't help. I don't need another Shotgun Assault; I'm making him a Rifle Assault. Daigoji gets more ammo. Her reloading is always a pain. With all this cash I buy everything from the Foundry. EVERYTHING. WHAT DOES RIKKU SEE
Balcerzak
SHIVs are apparently key components in Ironman/Impossible/Classic strategies because they can be used as super expendable cannon fodder that can suppress and/or draw fire. This is so damn true. In my only successful Ironman Classic I think I almost stopped losing men after I got some SHIVs on the field. I lost a good 3-4 SHIVs but who cares. It also allowed me to never train suppression on my supports or heavies, letting me carry MOAR rockets or whatever else is the better skill, and still have that valuable utility. Magical CC
Which gene seeds are the most important for my space marines? Oh, and the MEC is damn awesome, he has never skipped any mission, lol. I think trying the iron man mode is truly a mistake, those damn seekers kept targeting my sniper. If not for the awesome ability to cover a lot of ground of MEC, he should be death 2 times by now....the sniper was no longer the super cool killing machine anymore with those nasty aliens around. IGdood
This is so damn true. It also allowed me to never train suppression on my supports or heavies, letting me carry MOAR rockets or whatever else is the better skill, and still have that valuable utility. Hmm, I see. SHIVs also got buffed in EW and there's supposedly quite a few new techs for them. I don't know, I haven't unlocked most of them yet. Adaptive Bone Marrow is probably a good one. Mimetic skin is also very good for scouting purposes and sometimes first strike spotting. PREVIOUSLY I FORGOT WAT PREVIOUSLY HAPPENED SO HERE IS AN UPDATE AND FIGURE IT OUT FOR YOURSELVES More medals are given to keep wills high. A UFO lands. It wasn't what I expected. LOOK A MECHTOID. FUCK THEM, ROCKET THE BASTARDS BEFORE THEY'VE SPOTTED US Mind Meld gives the Mechtoid a big shield of health. This warrants another rocket to the offending Sectoid. Rikku snipes the pilot nicely. When you thought it was over, a Cyberdisc shows up with a drone entourage. Luckily disabling shot works on the circular abomination of geometry and it retreats for repairs. Some floaters attempt to distract us by flanking so we couldn't pursue the cyberdisc. Balcerzak receives a faceful of energy piss Try Hard avenges him He's fine. He'll be fine. Stone God? More like Eldritch Metal. FUCK YOU DICKXALT I WANTED THAT CARAPACE ARMOR FUCK YOU But before we could go after Dickxalt, we gotta save Paris first. A cyberdisc is our welcoming party. WELL WE BROUGHT LOTS OF BULLETS FOR YOU It retreats, we save some civvies and proceed into the building. What we were in for was the fight for our lives. As if the hivemind knew of our offenses in Newfoundland, it sends a swarm of fucking Chrysallids. The more we kill, the more keep coming. No time to reload. No time for anything, really. Zombies also make things noticeably more difficult. JIM JONES gets badly mauled but being alpha as fuck he makes it through with 1 HP Weir gets slapped in the face for missing. His immunity to poison is a good thing. MAIM KILL BURN Eventually the Chrysallid swam turns into a trickle as the rest of them are busy pursuing the poor civilians outside. I think the civvies saved our asses. They acted as running bait before being inevitably turned into zombies. 21 kills, of course there would be promotions. Weir carries more shit now (I should give him grenades), TryHard tries even harder to impress. Jim Jones has bad aim, and can't exactly punch shit like Daigoji does, so he gets more defense because he can be alpha as fuck. Princess K reaches the rank of Colonel and essentially has maxed out. TRAITORS TO MANKIND, I COME FOR YOU Why is tactical rigging so fucking based I mean holy shit EXALT enemy AI is maximum troll. They'll break out of cover just to shoot you in the back because they want your men dead. They know there's permadeath for you and they're willing to die just to take you with them. Even mutons will do anything to stay in cover. Enemy Within likes to make people ragdoll around now I think I'm ready to face EXALT's elite troopers now. How many grenades have I tossed? I don't really remember. Try killing our heavies now. The game automatically rules out the countries so I don't need to worry too much about the guesswork. I wonder which country has EXALT's HQ... HNNNNNGH Brazil needs our help again LOOK AT OUR TEAM NOW. LOOK AT THEM. Standard protocol to deal with a MECHTOID: 1. Rocket/grenade the sectoids 2. Pop smoke. 3. Holo-target Mechtoid if possible 4. Send PrincessK to double reaper round the fucker. 5. ??????? 6. PROFIT!!!! Rikku isn't doing too well tonight. She receives twin plasma cannons to the face as a result. Disregard MELD, killing the Mechtoid is priority. Thin Men proceed to flank Princess K. They obviously don't want her regrouping with the rest of the team. The team must push forward then. RIKKU STOP MISSING. Good thing grenades never miss. I realized that having Weir as your only dedicated medic in the team is a major weakness. He's currently in the hospital. That's why I'm training that new guy to be a dedicated medic. FUCK YOU CYBERDISC Wilson gets a promotion and can now dodge overwatch Rikku learns to not risk death so often Interrogation says something we already know (and captured)

IGdood
Wut. Chryssalids can panic? Yes. Even insects fear the fire. Interesting lesson- if it burns, it can feel fear (also, I caved. not very far in yet, but huuuuungry) GOOD MAN. A dead mechtoid yields a core body and a sectoid corpse. I guess they don't saw off their own limbs. Random dialogue. SOON WE WILL BE ABLE TO UPGRADE OUR MECS Remember when Floaters were funny dudes with capes? Ooh yeaaaah Losing 3 countries sounds horrible I should send the old SHIV on a suicide mission This might come in handy Time to choke motherfuckers to death with gas I think RIkku can use this >-$75 MOTHERFUCKER GIVE ME BACK MUH MONEY I AM FULL OF RAGE FUCK YOU I WILL ACCUSE ALL IN MY PATH They are so ready. Also MECS don't even bother fast-roping down; they just jump. We're finally fighting EXALT elites. I don't know what gene mods they're packing that makes Dr. Vahlen winch, but I'm not going to stick around and find out. I bet their elite AI is just as suicidal as their grunt AI. If I charge in, I surmise my men will be sandwiched. So I stay back and keep them on overwatch while Princess K acts as my invisible eye. Wut All it takes is a slight millisecond of line of sight and you'll get shot from overwatch. Knowing that they have heavies makes me even more cautious. As long as they can't see us they can't use a rocket because they'll always use their first turn to move/reposition. AHA! A second squad of snipers attempts to flank. Rikku will have none of this shit. Daigoji's extra ammo lets her destroy cover without needing to reload again next turn. Men without cover will die quite readily. A lack of cover makes one prone to critical hits. WHAT DO YOU SEE If you haven't noticed yet, all the EXALT elites have laser weaponry. And here I am using good old-fashioned bullets like a fucking boss. [EVIL LAUGHTER INTENSIFIES] HEADSHOT. DOUBLE WHAMMY. Now is not the time for comments on Dickxalt's aesthetic taste. For elites they really haven't been giving me much trouble. Looks like there's 2 more squads to deal with. FEEL THE POISON OF THIN MEN >IMMUNE FUCK YOU Weir pops his drug-laced smoke with extra Dr. Who sparkles. Daigoji continues to rip apart enemy cover. STOP SELF HEALING WITH YOUR OVERLY EXTREME GENE MODS YOU FUCKERS STOP PLS Shooting from the balcony just like the last level of Call of Duty: World at War where you assault the Reichstag The last EXALT squad puts up a valiant last stand....NOT. They have no cover, they got flashbanged, they're being flanked, and they're being thrown across the room by a fucking cyborg. I've actually never seen an EXALT laser sniper rifle fire. It's like a laser with lightning coursing through it. EXECUTION FATALITY EXALT IS FUCKING GONE. GONE. NO MORE TRAITORS, ONLY ALIENS No promotions? Aw. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ >Game states that we have to research lasers before being able to use EXALT versions FML Less reloads is \o/ This would be very useful to someone who gets kills a lot but sticks with the team. Well maybe PrincessK can take it. Or Hunter Wilson. It's about time our Heavies got better weaponry.

Sifer
Yes, the mutant traitors has been killed! no time to fight the alien menace. And looks like you are getting to plasma tech, that is when the tide turns! --- I aborted my last three classic runs due to excess casualties. After thinking about about it, I concluded that those runs lacked grenades, so everyone was issued one to use on the sectoids. Now there has been no casualties on XCOM's side as of the fourth missions!

Rehab
I got at least one city ufo crash mission, early enough that there were only 3 Sectoid pairs and an Outsider in it. Almost anticlimactic in how easy it was- I took way longer than was probably necessary and missed a meld container, but didn't suffer a scratch. Also recently had to relearn just how bad an idea it is to rely on half-cover in a crowded firefight ugh Edited November 17, 2013 by Rehab

As earlier said, adaptive bone marrow and mimetic skin are the best ones. The former lets you survive protracted fights. As far as I can tell, unlike the MEC version, it doesn't have any limitations in terms of how many times it can apply, so as long as you're not caught by a crit anyone with it shouldn't end up dead unless you made a major fuck up. The latter lets your sniper avoid any damage at all so long as he maintains good cover. Wut. Chryssalids can panic? Hell yeah. IGdood
HERE IS AN UPDATE. Yes I'm dragging the game out because i don't want to advance the story without getting muh lasers first I decide to take random pictures of the base because reasons India needs our help and we gotta train up our lower-ranking guys Fuck your shit, Mechtoid. I like to retreat and overwatch FUck your shit, mutons JIM JONES DOESN'T CARE FOR YOUR PLASMA RIFLES BERSERKEEEERRRSSS Everyone fails to do sufficient damage in enough time and Jim Jones gets his ass kicked hard. Where's Dr. Weir when you need him? I'M OUT OF FUCKING MEDKITS The SHIV takes 2 overwatches for the team and comes out on top. We manage to kill off the mutons before JIM JONES bleeds out Balcerzak reaches max rank and takes another rocket UFO = train the trainees Still, getting kills with the trainees is hard Especially when all your overwatches miss and a cyberdisc floats into your flank Vahlen seems to forget that we already have an outsider I think my friend likes the design Oh yeaaaaaaah I expect great things with a SQUADDIE level guy with such high fucking aim This is pretty much a fucking cheat. Weir's gonna get his hands full with this I wonder if we'll have to face Ethereals soon Abductor class UFO calls for some cool guys Vahlen please stop acting like this is the first time you saw a berserker. I want that MELD, but if I move Princess K she'll grab the muton's attention. So, in one of the ballsiest troll moves in XCOM history, I order the entire squad to attack, and then Neil throws the ghost grenade to hide everyone in plain sight. What I didn't count on happening was that despite being ordered to hunker down, Princess K activates Close Combat Specialist as the berserker runs past. She revealed herself, got mauled for a WHOPPING 2 damage, then gets shot for 8. As if that means shit, she has so much health it's not even fucking funny anymore. I think Seekers move again after they go into stealth mode. Otherwise I'd see 2 dead Seekers. I love the Kinetic Strike Module aka FALCON PAWNCH Patch up wounds, take care of remaining seeker, scout out the Abductor only to find a bloody Mechtoid....surprise the Sectoids with a flashbang, the trainees take care of the Sectoids while Daigoji punches the big guy to death Vahlen shut up please I still need to interrogate a Sectoid Oh boy. Magical CC
Can anyone prove that the Newfoundland mission is doable? Chrysalids can travel one-third of THAT WHOLE MAP PER T It is easy. My MEC has thruster pack, one jump from the pier is enough to let him get inside the cabin. The next turn, he actived the button and escaped. All of my other guys were already on their way to the safe zone. The Chrys freaks caught my MEC in the next turn but thanks to the damage reduction and the repair servos, he was able to get to the safe zone with more than half of his hp. Only one guy was killed in that mission. I let him dash to the tower to find a good sniping spot...which turned out to be where 3 Chrys freaks hang out. Poor sniper, I bet he had a big "WTF!!!" when he saw them. Edited November 18, 2013 by Char
Esau of Isaac
Can anyone prove that the Newfoundland mission is doable? Chrysalids can travel one-third of THAT WHOLE MAP PER TURN You have to have your team in control of the ship with overwatch before he presses the button. When he does then you have everyone hightail it out. Then keep one or two back a turn or two into running away to hit them with flamethrowers. It's how I did it. Only made it by a turn though. Integrity
I did the Newfoundland mission with a full plasma/laser/projectile mix (EDIT: i think it was one light plasma rifle, one laser rifle, one laser sniper, and a bullet lmg /EDIT), four men, no MECs, on Classic. Never again. Only thing that saved me was an Italian girl with automatic reaction fire on close enemies and a light plasma rifle. She got like twelve kills in that mission. Plus Mimetic Skin on my button presser. Mimetic Skin is a lifesaver. Edited November 18, 2013 by Integrity

ALSO FUUUUUUU JIM JONES NO GODAKJNBAPDFOUIJNASDFV FREEDOM IS DEAD I saved him before he bled out he's fine because he's ALPHA AS FUCK MUH FREEDOM Research happens. Having multiple laboratories just speeds this shit up. DRUUUUUGS SATELLITTTEEES Such gene mods wow omg so alien wow much organs wow Training up the "other" team is fun. Railgun FX is sweet as fuck Dem promotions JIM JONES GOES FOR MOAR DAMAGE Speccing Neil in Squadsight Weir is now a medical god UPGRADING GUNS Wow. I should've researched this one a long time ago Yes I'm trying to leave the Outsider Shard for last SHIVs seriously got buffed in Enemy Within. UFO lands, and now they're sending Heavy Floaters at us. They're a fair opponent, they have enough health to withstand laser weaponry. We bag some new prisoners. We get some good armor. This MIGHT be useful if I'm a heavy SHIV addict. >MEC-2 All I ever wanted....all I ever needed...was here...in my heeaaaart Yeah Depeche Mode yeaaaah If you're wondering who I'm basing JIM JONES on, I'm basing him on Fallout 3's Liberty Prime. WE BRING DEMOCRACY AND FREEDOM TO ALIENS It's not fun to have 3 Heavy Floaters shooting you while 2 berserkers run at you with Muton support Good thing tactical rigging existed. Flamethrowers do shit to berserkers though, they don't panic. Grenade launcher is basically grenade throwing but with a MUCH longer range. You know the RNG is trolling when a Muton only does 1 damage to a civilian at near point blank range. An exploding car kills 2 civvies. Boo. GRENADES FOR EVERYONE Having 2 snipers in the back is also fun. Also, heal for 10 HP = \O/ FLY LIKE AN ALPHA MALE Squadsight snipers should seriously get gunslinger just in case A good hunter knows how to flush out enemies Rikku hits max rank wheeee 2 MECS 1 MISSION? OK Spare none in your explosive fury. The cover of smoke is rarely harmful to the player, until a Seeker hides right above you. Flamethrower destroys walls pretty well too (not pictured) Squadsight and Snapshot are all quite useful. Integ hits max rank and I give him Mayhem because reasons Battle Scanner is like a 2-turn scout Daigoji gets her own MEC-2 suit, and given her support nature she gets to spray healing mist all around her. FUCK YOU I got spare satellites, luckily. >Better flamethrower Yiiiiiis Not much to say about this one, except Skeleton Suits grappling everywhere is cool
IGdood
UPDATE Heavies tend to level at slow but steady rates thanks to rockets guaranteeing opportunities for group kills. All these weapons but insufficient resources Ooooh yeaaaaaah Suddenly escort mission! Thin Men can't do much at this point. Healing Mist is insanely good. Imagine being put in Dense Smoke with Distortion Field and Healing Mist. You'd win a shootout assuming no grenades and explosives come your way. THIN MEN WHY ARE YOU BEING CRITMEN Promotions for our lads This might be useful. This will definitely be useful. I NEED MORE MELD!? TIME TO ADVANCE THE STORY LET'S DO THIS YEAH BABY MUTON ELITES ARE NOT A PROBLEM. KILL ONE, SUPPRESS AND WEAKEN THE OTHER. Then go for the stun Interdasting. Sectopods seemed to have been buffed. I also seem to have trouble doing damage to it. And it seems to fail in attacking: it fired rockets at the wrong area. I like how Power Fists do only half damage to Sectopods, but when you kill ne with a punch it goes into a magnificent killing animation where the MEC just climbs the metal beast and punches it to death until it explodes and damages everyone nearby. Welp, here's the Sectoid commander, and the line of sight in this section of the map is weird. I mean, look at that screenshot where PrincessK is next to the Mechtoid and she says she can't see him. FUCK IT'S GOT WEEIIIIIR Rikku shoots his gun while everyone else tries to weaken the little Psionic fucker for capture Berserkers also have special death animations when killed by a Kinetic Strike Module. They get punched, fall, and run themselves into the fist before exploding into blood Vahlen is too genre savvy....or she's just using common sense. FULL SPEED AHEAD Daigoji hits max rank and becomes even harder to kill >we have ways >instant interrogation and autopsy yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa boy Interesting items and gene mods...maybe Weir can use one. MORE COMING SOON

Rehab
I remember hearing from somebody that, in EU at least, there was some sort of algorithm to class recruitment that would make the classes you had the least of by far the most likely to appear in new recruits, though I don't remember if this applied to the recruits who hadn't been trained yet when the game began, or just all the new hires. In going through the rookies, I have, as of this moment, promoted 5 snipers. which is 3 more than the number of squaddies belonging to the next-most numerous class I have, and 4 more than my number of heavies If I get one more sniper for the rest of this game, I'm going to, I dunno, be quite chuffed about it or something Also: a seeker grabbed me through a wall The heavy on overwatch standing right behind the grabbed (on the other side of the wall from the seeker, of course) just stood there
Sifer
i killed the sectoid commander the first time I met him My sniper had a beam rifle. OK sniper, you just need to injure it, while the assault stuns it. *sniper fires* *CRIT* *commander dies* *face palms* I didn't restart since I didn't know the importance of interrogating things.
