Looking for spriters interested in making a game

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

I'm a software developer who has a passion for games, and I'd like to start develop my own personal game.

I'm not really experienced in making sprites, so looking for some help here.

The game will be similar to some of my favourite games of all time, Final Fantasy tactics Advance and Tactics Ogre KoL on the gameboy advance, Final Fantasy tactics A2 on NDS and XCOM:enemy within on PC.

So, this game will be an isometric turn-based strategy game following the theme of a fantasy setting similar to that of final fantasy.

Fire emblem is another one of my favourites, so I'd love to add fire emblem-like strategic elements to the game. (terrain bonusess, weapon triangle etc). Obviously there will be RPG elements such as levelling and attributes, skills and abilities you can learn equipments etc. You will have a big input on the direction of the game :)

I will be the main programmer, and I'd really like it if I worked with one or more sprite designers. You need no coding or programming knowledge whatsoever, just the talent of making good looking sprites.

To put this bluntly so there are no mistakes later, this is NOT a paid project and the motive behind this project is NOT money.

It is personal satisfaction of creating a game similar to those we love.

Please email me at [email protected] if you are interested.

P.S. if you must know, the game will be developed in Java, with the possibility of porting it over to Android and iOS.

Can we see some examples of your programming expertise?

I have a full time job as a software developer, not sure what I can show now...

EDIT: by no means am I an "expert" in game development. I'm pretty junior in this department. This is the reason why I didn't ask for "experienced" spriters (who would be too important and busy to make free sprites anyway), just anyone with a talent or enthusiasm/dream of making games.

You have better luck getting help if you have something concrete to show people. Like a demo or screenshots or something

3rding on the demonstrating some progress before asking for any outside contributions. Once you have something to show and demonstrate you can actually do things, people will begin to take interest (until then, they're really just ideas and no one's really sure you will follow through with anything).

For now you can probably use open-source assets and stuff as stand-ins.

Or just use the graphics assets of the official games if you're looking to make something more mod/hack-like.

Ok probably would've been a good idea to start with free sprites and then later change to more specific custom made sprites..

Initially I was thinking more on the lines of starting with all the assets at hand but, seems like I gotta change my ways.

This post was more of a "take a random shot in hopes of getting someone, if not, oh well" rather than "must get someone to make sprites!" anyway.

Better trying and failing than not trying at all.

Still, if there's anyone, feel free to contact me :)

Better trying and failing than not trying at all.

Just be sure to try again when you have something to show! ^__^

(Also yeah, the coding is more or less the most straightforward part. It takes a long time to update a library of graphics compared to updating code, so 'good looking sprites' ought to come once the other cores (engine/story) are stable.)

It sounds interesting and all, and I'm all for welcoming another coder to the community, but in reality a lot of people do tend to come and go with just ideas. Once you do get started I'm sure people will be willing to give their input and possibly join your project. Good luck in any case~

(And totally if you're thinking shiny assets would be motivation to get going you should spare some change and put good money down on it too. Just from the gist of your original post, it sounds more like we'd be working to fill in your skill gaps to complete your game, rather than creating a collaborative team project where we share skills to make something we both want.)
