  • Karla: Speed Superboon (Nani!?), Wrath right off the bat, Even Speed Waive to boost her already high speed further on even turns, decent HP stat and attack stat, terrible defense of 23/22 making her very fragile, but overall she's very dangerous in the Wrath range, her weapon also gives her not only a -1 special cooldown, it also gives her a maximum of +7 damage if her speed stat is higher than her opponent, unfortunately it doesn't mix with Glimmer and such, it works like Wrath and Wo Dao, but this will help on dealing massive damage, 9/10

  • Nino: Weapon boost her speed +3, +7 damage at max if she's faster than opponent, synergy with mixed teams thanks to Aerobatics, an amazing base kit with Swift Sparrow, Speed Smoke and Moonbow, terrible defenses at 53/61, typical for a mage, especially against bows and Excalibur who can take her down quickly, but with that super speed she has and that attack stat, she really has done her best to get more powerful than before, 9/10

All these unis are: GOTTA GO FAST!

Karla. Strong Atk and superb Spd with relatively above average Hp and mediocre defenses. Karla is very straightfoward, her job is to deal as much damage as she can and it's not very hard to do so. Her Prf weapon, Vassal's Blade, has a killer effect and grants her up to +7 Dmg as long as she's faster than her enemies, considering that she has the highest base Spd in the game (factoring a +Spd nature, otherwise she's tied with Mia) she'll have little trouble using the weapon at it's best. Her bulk may seem low but it is good enough to let her tank one hit and retaliate back really hard. On normal hits she is superior than Ayra but she falters a bit when it comes to tanking and not having a ridiculous special like Regnal Astra makes Karla a little weaker overall, but regardless of that Karla is one hell of a unit and one of the best swords in the game.

Rating: 9/10

Flying Nino. A focus on Atk and Spd makes her a very threatening unit out of the gate. Her Prf weapon, Giga Excalibur, gives Spd+3 and grants up to +7 Dmg if Nino is faster than her opponent. Nino is the first green mage flier in the permanent pool and can be considered to be the best one when it comes to offense. Her base kit allows her to double everything but fast swords and with her good stats she'll pack a very strong punch. Her bulk is terrible so don't bother trying to make her an EP unit. As a Flier she also offers a lot of utility with things like Guidance, Flier Guidance, etc, etc and her Aerobatics skill can make for some nasty shenanigans when she's on a Defense team. Her tome can be a bit unreliable when facing highly merged units so she can opt for the classic Blade tome which can be devasting in a Flier or Tactics team. Nino is extremely strong but she pays for it by being made of paper defense-wise.

Rating: 9/10

Ishtar should be 10/10 :Tinny:

Anyways.

Karla - Skill Inheritance from her is way too good. Wrath 3 and Even Spd Wave are S Tier skills to have. 10/10 for Skill Inheritance. (5%)

Combat wise she is the fastest, and one of the strongest swords in the game. Her special blade only boosts her insane damage. She's the most powerful purely offensive unit in the game, if it weren't for Black Luna and Regnal Astra she would be simply the best, but instead she is tied with Ayra and Zelgius. Combat is a 10/10 (95%)

Overall: 10/10

Nino (SF) - Swift Sparrow 2 - S Tier Skill, Aerobatics 3 - only found on Nino (SF) and is amazing for fliers (especially the dancing kind), and last but not least Spd Smoke 3, which is always a decent skill because it's a Smoke Skill. Nino is a 10/10 as far Skill Inheritance goes.

Combat wise Nino sports the best offensive stats in the game because of her Spd being the highest for mages. Not only is she a flier with amazing mobility, access to flier skills, and able to run Flier Emblem buffs, but she also has an amazing prf weapon similar to Karla that boosts her damage similarly to a Bladetome except without worrying about a cooldown penalty or Panic Ploys (though admittedly it's not going to be as powerful without a special). She's also green which makes her a good counter to the unstoppable Reinhardt (with DD 3 seal and merges), Hardin, Nowi, and of course blues in general. She's simply one of the best mages, right along there with Ishtar. 9.5/10 for combat.

Overall: 9.5/10

Karla

  • Offense-focused stat line, with very good Spd, good Atk, and low Def and Res.
    • Vassal's Blade (Accelerates Special trigger, if Karla's Spd is greater than the enemy's, 70% of the difference is dealt as damage, with a max of +7 damage) is a very strong offensive tool.
    • Incredibly strong green, very strong red matchups on offense with an offense-stacking Moonbow/Wrath set. Incredibly strong green, strong red matchups with DC instead of an offense-boosting A Passive. Sustainability through auto-charging Moonbow.
    • Very strong green, strong red matchups on defense with a Moonbow/DC/Wrath set for one round of combat. She can then switch to PP OHKOs.
  • She can provide basic field/combat buff support.

Overall, I give her 10 for combat (incredibly strong green, strong red matchups on offense with a DC set, sustainability bonus, some mixed phase utility), and .5 for support (basic field/combat buff), for a total rating of 9/10.

Nino

  • Offense-focused stat line, with very good Spd, decent Atk, passable Res, and poor Def.
    • Giga Excalibur (Spd +3, if Nino's Spd is greater than the enemy's, 70% of the difference is dealt as damage, with a max of +7 damage) is a very strong offensive tool.
    • Very strong blue, strong green matchups on offense with a basic Giga Excalibur set when Desperation and Hone Fliers are active (very strong blue, decent green matchups from full HP), sustainability through Desperation. Incredibly strong blue, very strong green matchups with a Gronnblade+ set when Desperation and Hone Fliers are active.
    • Relatively poor defensive matchups, due to her lower defensive stat line.
  • As a flier, she can provide flier field/combat buffs for her allies.

Overall, I give her 9 for combat (Very strong blue, strong green matchups on offense, sustainability bonus), and 1 for support (flier field/combat buff), for a total rating of 8.5/10.

Scoring method:

Spoiler

Units are evaluated based on both their combat performance and their team support capabilities (i.e. their whole contribution to a team).

  • Combat performance is judged by matchups, especially against enemies that are at triangle disadvantage or neutral to the unit. Performance against more relevant meta threats is more valuable than performance against units that are rarely seen. Triangle Adept sets are not considered, though they might be noted. Scale of 0 to 10.
    • Sustainability and filling a useful niche are given small bonuses, when applicable.
    • I will look at least one PP-focused and one EP-focused skill set for each unit, but only evaluate based on performance for whichever phase I deem the unit to be stronger on.
  • Support capabilities are decided by how much support a unit can provide (without horribly compromising their combat capabilities), and how valuable I feel that support is. Scale of 0 to 3.
  • At the end, the combat and support scores will be weighted (with a heavy focus on combat performance), combined, and rounded to the nearest .5 to obtain the total rating. Dancers and Singers will get +1 point to their total rating (not to exceed 10), because I value Dance/Sing utility highly.

This method of evaluation essentially compares each unit to a hypothetical "god unit" who is stellar at everything, instead of each unit to each other.

All my ratings.

Unfortunately I must abstain from Karla BUT MAN I REALLY WANNA SUMMON HER!

Nino: Honestly, this is upgraded Nino. Everything I said about regular Nino basically, for the most part applies here, except she's...upgraded. She has better mobility, starts off with a better set of skills, and has a better weapon. 9/10

Karla

Spoiler

Ayra was the new standard of Sword units, but Karla is who took that standard, crumpled it into a ball, and shattered everything we knew about being a Sword unit.

If this were the old days of FEH, Karla would probably have like 20 Atk to make up the fact she has not just the highest neutral Speed in the game, but also the highest possible speed with just base stats and skills. But she doesn't, in fact Karla's Attack is equal to that of an average Brave Weapon unit. This does come at the cost of most of her defensive value, but she keeps a decent HP stat to absorb what hits she needs to.

Vassal's Blade, Karla's personal sword, is a personal Slaying Edge, but with what I will call the Speed Puissance skill. If Karla has more speed than the target, which she does, she will deal damage equal to 70% of the difference in speed, up to a difference of 10 for a total of 7 bonus damage. While it's not a boost to speed like a Spd forged Slaying Edge is, it doesn't need to be since it's working off Karla's already high Speed. Draconic Aura is a decent Special to have by default, but can fall short at times. Wrath will speed up Special Cooldown and increase Special Damage by 10 once Karla is injured enough, which she usually will be. Lastly is the cornerstone of Karla's speed, Even Speed Wave. +6 Speed to both Karla and any adjacent allies as a Field Buff on even numbered turns (2, 4, 6, 8, etc). Since you usually need a turn before you reach the enemy, the trigger time of Even Spd Wave works perfectly.

If you want more speed at the cost of all bonus damage, a Spd Forged Slaying Edge works basically the same as Vassal's Blade, just without Speed Puissance. For Specials, Moonbow and Glimmer both will be ready for Karla to trigger once Wrath is triggered. For an A passive, Swift Sparrow boosts her Attack and Speed without sacrificing Defense and Resistance, Life and Death is slightly better at the cost of said Defense and Resistance, and Fury has the worst boost to Atk and Spd but while also boosting Def and Res and also inflicting some damage after all combat, making it easier to reach the Wrath trigger. Wrath itself doesn't need to be kept, and can be replaced with Desperation. If going with Desperation, consider giving Karla the Flashing Blade SS, since she will usually be far faster than the foe anyways, and pair it with Luna or Draconic Aura.

Karla, despite being a Melee Infantry, has very few weaknesses beyond being a Melee Infantry with shabby defenses. However, there is one to go over: She does not have access to Regal Astra. As such, Karla isn't able to get as powerful Special Triggers as Ayra no matter what you do to try and give her such: Ayra simply has the better Special triggers.

But Karla has both the power and speed advantage between the two. Any loss in Special Damage is not to be worried over, because you will simply have amazing combat performance anyways.

Rating: 9/10 Because Karla is the fastest unit in the game without sacrificing much in the way of power, she is able to inflict two very powerful attacks thanks to Vassal's Blade and gain a damage boost from the Speed Puissance effect. Without Regal Astra, Karla isn't quite able to powercreep Ayra, but rather exist in tandem with her as the definition of a Sword unit.

Pale Flower Nino

Spoiler

Nino found a Pegasus. If I could end the rating at that, then I would.

I guess that isn't entirely true. In addition to an extra GP, Nino took one GP out of Defense and one BST from Resistance and put them in HP and Speed, resulting in slightly better HP bulk and Speed. Her Attack remains the same though.

Pale Flower Nino can do most anything regular Nino can, so long as Fliers can equip it to, but comes with a bonus tool for the cheap: Giga Excalibur, or Gigaxcalibur. Has the effect of Speed +3, as well as the Speed Puissance effect from Karla's Vassal's Blade. Nino herself is quite speedy herself by default, even without the Speed +3 effect, but she ALSO comes with Swift Sparrow for even more Speed, as well as power. In most cases, she should be able to get both the double and a decent power boost from Gigaxcalibur. As for other skills, she comes with Moonbow, good for ensuring she nets a close kill, Aerobatics to let Nino jump between any non-flier Allies, and Speed Smoke to more or less guarantee she gets the maximum out of Speed Puissance.

Nino can drop Gigaxcalibur for Gronnblade, and then it becomes even more evident that the Pale Flower is just normal Nino on a pegasus. Desperation can replace Aerobatics for better combat performance, Flier Buffs can replace Speed Smoke, and that's about it, really. You can replace Swift Sparrow with Life and Death if you'd like, but it's not like you really need to...

Nino suffers the curse of low defensive ability, hurting her a lot if she tries to attack someone powerful with DC and she isn't in range of Desperation, if she even has it in the first place. If she switches to Gronnblade, she is also vulnerable to units who run some form of Dull Ranged, and one last thing to note is that Armor Lances like to really stack Resistance via Ward Armor and Berkut's Lance, so Nino may have a hard time getting damage in on them.

Overall, if you like using Nino in her normal attire, then you will enjoy using Nino on a horse with wings.

Rating: 9/10 With high Speed and two potential weapon options both as viable as the other, Nino the Pale Flower offers the experience of using a fast and powerful Green Mage on a horse. Low defensive ability almost doesn't matter in that regard.

Karla gets a 9/10 from me.

Her sole flaw is that she doesn't have the ridiculous prf special that ayra has, but makes up for it in stats and non-special damage.

Peg Nino gets 9/10.

Shit defenses, but incredibly flexible and rather fucking powerful.

Speedcreep era has arrived.

Karla

Ridiculous speed with great Atk as well, and a weapon that lowers cooldown while granting up to +7 Atk. They're not even being subtle. She has combat comparable to Ayra, with the main differences being better melee matchups at the cost of not running a DC set as well as Ayra. The only thing keeping her from a 10 is the lack of a Regnal Astra equivalent. 9/10

Nino

Take Nino, give her more speed and a Pegasus and you get an incredible offensive green flier.

Highest speed for a green mage lets her run offensive blade builds better than any of her competition. She can also use her prf tome for less buff reliance and even more speed. Not to mention all the additional perks of flier movement.

Bow weakness hardly matters as her poor physical bulk wouldn't save her even without it. Her main issue is getting her safely in desperation range but that's a problem for any glass cannon mage.

9/10

Flying Nino? Ten outta fuckin' ten.

To elaborate: She flies, can receive flier buffs, Prf gives +3 Spd, Prf buffs her damage output based on how much faster she is than her opponent (up to +7 damage if she has 10 Spd or more above opponents' Spd in combat), complete and workable kit out of the box with little SI needed, best offensive statline for a flying mage, cute as fuck, must protect.

10/10 no bias. Ignore my sig.

Karla - She's different enough from other units that I think I ought to abstain from her having never owned her. I wish I knew if the bonus damage from speed difference is applied after calculations like the Wo Dao effect.

NotCanon!Nino - If you care about one hit kills, and if you're in the highest arena tiers I assume you do, Bridal Sanaki is the best blade tome user. Without a blade tome, Nino reaches the highest the level of the highest speedsters with her personal weapon. Annoying though that she can't reach the highest BST tier of her class without a suboptimal superboon. 8 out of 10.

Clarine is a 5.5. Caeda I'd rate a 5.5 now that I've been using her at 5 star. Leo I'd bump up to a 3. Nino should be a 6. Hector is a 7.5. Hardin should be a 9.

Legault

6.5/10

He's solidly built and comes with the need for little investment outside of a B slot and shield slot.

Kaze

6.5/10

Solid magetank and spammer of iceberg. Solidly built and can function with little investment. Give him something for the A slot and  shield slot. Maybe DB3 and reposition. Warding Blow  could also be used if you're really out of options.

Kaze is surprisingly one of the best dagger users right now! I had a feeling his Atk might be too low to make much use of, and his Def would make him as squishy as Felicia. But while the latter part of that is still true (his Def is ass lol), his Atk is quite serviceable and much better than hers. He's very fast too and tanks magic just about as well. His weapon is also great. And he can mess you up with Iceberg or Glacies. If you have the right seal or B skill, you can also make him a sort of pseudo Summer Freddy that debuffs all stats since his weapon debuffs Def and Res and the C he comes with debuffs Atk. Or, if you have a spare Summer Freddy or don't care for him, you can dump Seal Atk/Spd on him! That being said, his Def is still very low and as a dagger wielder, he still doesn't have the Atk stat of some other speedy nukes in other colors. But great mage sponge/killer all around, especially if you're lacking in those. 7/10

I don't know much about Legault right now, so I have to skip him. I would've done a few more ratings on some other past characters in here, like the Ikes, but for some reason I just haven't felt like it. I'm not upset about the Frederick thing anymore, I can tell you that, and I haven't been for awhile. It would be silly to still be mad anyway. And if I said I didn't want to do ratings in here anymore, well, yeah, that's changed too, of course. I tend to change my mind about things like that anyway.

Dagger day? Interesting.

Legault. His stat spread focuses on Spd while having passable Atk, mediocre everywhere else. Legault keeps the recent trend of offensive dagger users (this is counting seasonal units, as we barely get daggers as it is) and tries to carve a new anti-buff niche with his default weapon, The Cleaner, which acts like a Blade tome but it uses the enemies buffs instead of the unit's. Legault's high Spd ensures that nothing short of the fastest swords will double him which lets him tank at least 1 hit. With that being said, Legault suffers from the same destiny as every dagger user and that is being inferior to bows due to the lack of a Firesweep dagger. His default weapon is very inconsistent and considering that one of the most common strategies in arena is to separate the opponents it renders the weapon moot. It doesn't help that it does nothing against In-combat buffs so it becames even more useless against armor units that carry Ward Armor instead of Fortify buffs. All in all, Legault is one of the better dagger users but his class alone holds him back a lot, maybe when IS releases a Firesweep shuriken he'll be able to do some work with his good stats.

Rating: 6/10

Kaze. A focus on Spd and Res while having acceptable Atk and terribad Def. Kaze is another decent unit that is held back by his class. His spread puts him as a mage killer and he can perform this role decently, but mages tend to reach absurd amounts of Atk and without the benefits of the Weapon Triangle Kaze's going to have a hard time tanking repeated hits, it doesn't help that mages tend to be on the frail side on average making them easy to dispatch out with any melee unit with DC making Kaze even more of a niche. He can fire a very strong Iceberg/Glacies to keep his damage at a respectable level but the lack of a Brave/Firesweep dagger puts him in an inferior position to archers like Innes when it comes to these kinds of roles. Again, Kaze has good stats and can perform very well when used correctly but his class holds him back greatly which is his biggest downfall.

Legault

  • Spd-focused stat line, with very good Spd, decent Atk, low Def, and poor Res.
    • Good performance on offense with a Lethal Carrot+ set utilizing Flashing Blade and Desperation for sustainability. He performs poorly against armors in general, and has difficulty with dragons. He can make decent use of an effective damage dagger, or his default The Cleaner+ to act as a check for specific movement/weapon types.
    • Poor defensive performance due to his low defensive stats.
  • He can provide buff/debuff support through his chosen weapon, and basic field/combat buff support.

Overall, I give him 6.5 for combat (good offense performance, but struggles with bulkier foes), and 1 for support (basic field/combat buff support, buff/debuff support through his weapon), for a total rating of 6/10.

Kaze

  • Magically bulky stat line, featuring good Spd and Res, decent Atk, and poor Def.
    • Good performance on offense with a Lethal Carrot+ set utilizing Flashing Blade and Desperation for sustainability. He performs poorly against armors in general, and has difficulty with dragons. He can make decent use of an effective damage dagger, or The Cleaner+ to act as a check for specific movement/weapon types.
    • He can use Mirror Stance+Distant Def (or Distant Def stacking) to act as a mage check on the EP.
  • He can provide stat ploy support with his good Res stat, buff/debuff support through his chosen weapon, and basic field/combat buff support.

Overall, I give him 6.5 for combat (good offense performance, but struggles with bulkier foes), and 1.5 for support (basic field/combat buff, buff/debuff support through his weapon, ploy capability), for a total rating of 6.5/10.

UGH LEGAULT ANOTHER UNIT I WAAAAAANT BUT DON'T HAAAAAVE!

Kaze: Kaze has some of the highest speed and resistance stats in the whole game, and he's one of the best options for a dagger unit to fight mages. His attack is sort of middle-of-the-road, but it's not terrible and certainly workable! He'll serve just as well as Felicia and he's just as attainable since he was added to the summoning pool, and he already comes with a pretty decent weapon, Special, and C skill. All in all, he's a pretty decent choice for a dagger unit. 7/10

Legault - Highest speed of any dagger user, allowing him to take on a wind or watersweep build in the hopes that he can safely debuff enemy teams. His attack stat is also not terrible. But with such low defenses he will seldom take advantage of the buffs or debuffs provided by Smoke/Rogue Dagger. Legault is superior to Gaius in every way, and can even branch into an offensive role. 6 out of 10.

Kaze - Take Felicia, remove one point from both Spd and res, inflate her BST a whole tier and spend all those stats into attack. Kaze can use that attack considering he doesn't deal adaptive damage like Felicia can. Instead relying on special procs for consistent damage. He can survive mages, but Felicia thrives on mages by earning accelerated cooldown charge against them. If you want a dagger who has more consistent matchups than Felicia, then Kaze can get the job done. But why in the world would you have a dagger unit over any other class for damage? Kaze will get counterkilled by any opponent in high tier settings except for the occasional mage, so you'd better hope his Iceberg proves strong enough to kill them first. 5 out of 10

Clarine is a 5.5. Caeda I'd rate a 5.5 now that I've been using her at 5 star. Leo I'd bump up to a 3. Nino should be a 6. Hector is a 7.5. Hardin should be a 9.

Legault

Spoiler

An offensive dagger, if one has ever been seen before. Average Attack but low defensive value in all but average HP, Legault has one of the highest Speed stats available to daggers.

The Cleaner, the dumbest name for a dagger possible, has the effect of a weapon previously only available to an enemy unit: The more Field Buffs an enemy unit has on them, the more damage Legault does to them. It's an interesting effect in theory, but poses a risk if Legault can't secure the kill. Glimmer can get deadly if the effect is at its maximum potential though. Besides that, Swift Strike tries to fix a problem that is impossible to fix on Legault, boosting his player phase Speed and Resistance, to which he really can't fix his Resistance whatsoever. Attack Tactic is the skill he carries to the 4* pool, and while maybe not the best on him, occupying a movement type so painfully common as Infantry, it's still a welcome buff and can make Brave weaponry deadly.

If you don't want to keep The Cleaner because either you don't think you can really take advantage of the effect, or you think that that is the dumbest name to have, then you can give Legault another more offensive dagger. Currently, Barb Shuriken gives him one-cooldown Glimmer and pairs well with Desperation, and Lethal Carrot, which while even dumber than The Cleaner and looking completely ridiculous, will boost Special Damage by 10 on trigger, making Glimmer or Moonbow deadly triggers. If you want to stick to a player phase attacker, then you should replace Swift Strike with Swift Sparrow, because Legault has no business boosting his Res. Alternatively, completely forego his defensive ability altogether with Life and Death. Desperation is a good B skill to have, though if you think he can take advantage of The Cleaner's effect, then Vantage is worth considering to.

Legault has horrid Resistance, which poses a problem when you are a ranged unit. Having bad Defense is pretty bad to, but when you are a unit who's prime targets are Bladetomes, you really shouldn't be unable to even take a hit from them.

A good unit overall, but... listen, do us all a favor and just give him a Barb Shuriken, that's a much cooler name than The Cleaner...

Rating: 7.5/10 High Speed among daggers backed by average Attack, Legault can take advantage of The Cleaner to wipe down Cavalry, fliers, and Bladetomes, or take a less dumb sounding Dagger and rend foes weakened and dead. Taking a hit will hurt, so take care if going for the "wipe down Cavalry, fliers, and Bladetomes" route.

Kaze

Spoiler

Kaze is... not quite as offensive as Legault above. Average Attack, sure, but lower Speed and bad HP, as well as horrid Defense. What Kaze has that Legault doesn't is actually quite good Resistance, which is much more befitting of a ranged unit.

The Barb Shuriken will lower Special Cooldown by 1, which means Kaze will trigger a potent Iceberg all the sooner. Poison Strike is a decent B skill, for weakening the target, but poses a risk in the days where everyone wants to counterattack regardless of range. Attack Smoke, on the other hand, can help Kaze tank magic damage by nerfing their Attack harshly.

Kaze may not want to keep Poison Strike, since he is perfectly capable of taking on units and securing the kill decently well. Quick Riposte would work on Enemy Phase and ensure Kaze gets an Iceberg trigger while avoiding any doubles, while Dull Ranged makes sure no Bladetomes try to sneak in a load of damage on Kaze, while being able to be paired with the QR sacred seal. For a Special, Fury is fine enough, since it boosts his stats all around, but an alternative can be found in Distant Defense to ensure that Kaze will be taking minimal damage from all Tome users. For an alternate C skill, Kaze has the Resistance to take advantage of Ploys, and one of the Wave buffers can put Kaze in a better place than before. Consider Glacies as an alternate Special, to, because it'd hurt a lot. Also consider a 2 cooldown Special like Moonbow and Desperation, since Kaze can outspeed most foes with a decent amount of Speed building.

Kaze's low Defense and HP means most Physical hits will be deadly. In the times of Distant Counter, Kaze struggles to really find a good target. Also hurting Kaze is the fact that other Daggers, while not as resiliant as him, have much better offensive statspreads. Without having the Attack or Speed to match, Kaze is just considered average. In fact, he's not even the best dagger-wielding Magic tank: that one goes to Felicia, who is technically weaker but not only makes up the difference with a Personal Weapon, but a personal weapon that targets the lowest defensive stat, so she can even take on highly defensive Owltomes that Kaze would struggle to dent.

Still, Kaze is worth looking at. The offensive value that Barb Shuriken provides may not be of value to most, but Kaze can still enable a kill on most foes when needed, if he can't get the kill himself.

Rating: 6.5/10 Kaze does not really compare that well to most other Daggers, but he still has a considerable mix of Speed and Resistance to match up to mages, without skimping out on Attack. Any physical hit will spell doom to Kaze though.
