  1. Based on some of the logic on display in this thread, does the lack of a "Do you support elderly/ethnic/disabled characters with supports" imply we're all 'neutral' and therefore support the status quo of their relative lack of representation among FE casts? I'd be careful about confusing apathy for sexuality(or other issue)-related supports in a single video game series for supporting the lack of representation of non-heterosexual individuals in modern media and society.

I agree with you, staying neutral really only benefits the status quo of narrow representation. I actually find it quite offensive that underrepresented groups have to have a reason to be included while the majority does not.

  2. I'm all for diversity in video games. I'm not for stereotypical or offensive representation of the LGBT community. So if they add in LGBT relationships they better do it right and treat those relationships with respect and not mockery. From what we've seen of the game I don't think the game will treat their character well, but at least it won't be because they are LGBT.

  3. If you plan on buying the game despite these features, try to give them a chance before judging them so harshly. But if you think this actually ruins the game and destroys your whole experience, don't buy it.

I don't like this sort of logic because it invalidates the opinion of critics. So if the critics did what you said and don't buy the game because they don't like certain features, then when the game is actually released and they criticize the game for those features people would just say that they can't judge a game they haven't played.

As for "not buying won't help the series change for the better", yeah, neither will buying the game, because then they will think you like the anime/otaku features and keep adding on them. Basically the only way to actually do that is for your opinion to somehow reach the ears of the developers and that's probably not going to happen via this board.

The best way to tell IS that these features are not welcome to to buy an alternative game without those features. The problem is there is none; Fire Emblem is really the last of its kind, all similar games have died out. Front Mission is dead, Valkyria Chronicles is missing in action, Shining Force has been replaced by the other titles in the series, Super Robot Wars is never getting out of Japan. Langrisser is getting a new game and I will keep up with it to see if it is any good.

Either way Nintendo makes surveys in which players can give their thoughts on their games. So going on boards like this could actually help because people can tell the fanbase their grievances and some might change their opinion to not being okay with these features. Mass Effect 3 ending didn't change because of poor sales, it changed because everyone was complaining about the ending.

  4. This isn't about in-universe logic (although I wouldn't call anyone who's a mercenary innocent) it's about how well her design communicates her character. It doesn't, at least not her outfit. The only thing that communicates her supposed innocent personality is her facial expression, body language and bow.

You look as Sonia and you know her role in the story, you look at Charlotte and you can't tell at all.

Also if she reclassed to a class that uses hidden weapons that would actually be pretty clever. The fact that she uses hidden weapons is in fact hidden. It would be even better if she has a weapon rank in it.

  5. I actually love this personality, it's usually used for villainesses which turn out to be my favorite characters in games/books/movies. The design fits the character as well, the doll phase with the erotic pose adds excellent detail to the character. Even if you don't like it, it was well made. Plus, a female fighter. Not some sort of healer, mage, or any female-dominated class. MORE POWER TO THE LADIES. Say what you want, but she's more of a feminist character than most of the women in the entire FE series.

I don't think the design fits at all. It really seems like they randomly attached a class to her.

I actually showed my sister Charlotte and Sonia from FE7.

All she got from Charlotte was that she was a fighter of some sort, but couldn't give any specifics.

She immediately recognized Sonia as a seductress that manipulates others for her own gain.

Also why does she use axes? There is a hidden weapon type in the game and it would have perfectly reflected her seemingly innocent but actually dangerous personality.

An axe is huge and intimidating, the exact opposite of what she wants to appear.

I cannot call her a feminist character at all because she continues the video game industry trend of pointlessly sexualizing female armor designs.

  6. Even the older ones. An example I like is Blazing Sword. For the funds ranks you have to avoid using 847,000 gold on HHM, an amount that(minus 150,000 gold coming from the final chapter S-rank weapons) would at the bare minimum(since there's much more than 697,000 gold available in the game even discounting the arena) to allow you to buy 1161 Silver Lances. Enough fill the convoy up 11 times over and give atleast one to every lance user in the game with a weapon certain players end up not going through the one Marcus starts with.

The strategy that supposedly came from managing durability outside the earliest parts of the games typically is illusionary. The games are usually extremely generous with how much funds you have access too.

Isn't this a problem with how much money the games give you and not the weapon durability mechanic? I guess another problem would be that there usually isn't much to spend on, all you can do is restock. FE12 Lunatic avoids these problems because there is so much to spend your money on: drill grounds, forging, Lunatic stat boosters, etc. I was reading over PKL's FE12 Lunatic LTC and it was quite funny how he commented that Ymir should be top tier because his Silver Axe gave him just enough money to forge a helpful weapon.

  7. Does anyone know the damage modifiers of a critical hit? It's not on the calculations page and I tried figuring it out myself but I got nothing.

It doesn't seem to be double attack power or triple damage, so what is it?

  8. I agree that Luna is probably just a nod to Severa. We've had characters in the past that are homages to characters from previous FEs so this is nothing new.

Yeah, like half the characters in FE6, only that game had a different artist from Archanea games, so it wasn't as obvious. It was still pretty obvious though.

  9. I'm probably alone in seeing Fire Emblem Amie as NOT creepy. This level of "worship" seems reasonable considering My Unit is royalty, and most people would consider it an honor to have a member of royalty touch your face. At least I would find it an honor. :v

I find it more demeaning than an honor. Funnily enough face stroking was actually in Eirika's and Ephraim's C support. Eirika got agitated at Ephraim and told him stop treating her like a child. She blatantly said that it was not appropriate for them as it was when they were little. Remember that these two are twins, they have a very close relationship, and Eirika still found it uncomfortable.

  10. There's several other RPGs with this sort of system in place, and it sort of reminds me of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (I. . .think it was Gates to Infinity that let you build stuff?). Shopping's pretty vital, and tinkering with stat boosts for a given map looks interesting, especially given the semi-random nature of it.

I often do not like how it's implemented in other games. Usually mining or farming for materials to make things has you wait in-game time or real life time to actually harvest the materials, and I personally think that just the game wasting my time. This sort of system works better in open-ended RPGs because passing time in the world is the point in those RPGs, whether it is by exploring, playing mini games, talking to NPCs, grinding etc. Fire Emblem is not that sort of game; it is a game about overcoming challenges, whether it's enforced in the game or by self-imposed rules.

I've been playing Berwick Saga recently and like how it implemented its weapon crafting. Instead of mining the materials, you get them from defeating enemies that spawn on very hard to reach locations. I like this better than farming because it becomes a test of your skill instead of your patience.

Berwick Saga also has a food system that works similar to the one shown in the trailer. Feed your units food they like and they gain temporary boosts and increase their happiness, feeding them food they hate has the opposite effect. Who you can feed and what you can feed them is determined randomly at the start of the chapter but it is in no way needed or game breaking. It is just fun optimizing your units for the upcoming chapter with what you get.

  11. That's you being inadequately prepared, tough as it might be to hear. There's been many a no grind run for FE13. I've done 2 now. We have a user who beat L+ without resetting.

Don't the most consistent strategies for Lunatic+ have the Avatar grinding for like fifty turns in the Prologue?

  12. I first want to say thank you to SoC for the translation.

As for whether or not FE14 will be balanced around My Castle, we really don't have enough information to know for sure,

I personally think that I won't enjoy it because it seems mindless way to just pass time and relax, which is exact opposite of why I play a strategy game.

I'm specifically worried about the farming thing because apparently some materials to forge weapons can only be obtained this way.

I like strategy games because it is my skill and understanding of the mechanics that gets me cool weapons and beat tough challenges,

not how much time I have to waste.
