  1. I'm not talking about oneshot AU or AC fics. I'm thinking of retelling/self-insert fics that actually have playable units die at random points.

Has anyone ever seen a fic like that? If not, do you think it could be interesting? Because I myself can see plenty of options in a fic like that, and it kinda gets boring when you know every FE7/13 fic is gonna be a Zero Casualties run.

EDIT: Also, is this the right thread to be posting this in? If not, could you ask for it to be moved?

  2. Micaiah hate: Epitome of how horribly nerfed mages were in Tellius, coupled with being a lord, equals absolute burden. This made everyone question her character outside her stats, and they assumed that a horrible unit getting so much attention could only be the work of a Mary Sue. Though honestly, the whole "LOL I'm actually Jesus" thing in the ending is just poisonous.

Sothe hate: He is to Volke what Rickard is to Julian: a poor man's substitute thief unit. Plus he basically got his persona changed from being similar to Rolf to being a carbon copy of Ike almost overnight.

  3. Ashnard, hands down. Downright invincible to all but three units, possessing high stats and no weaknesses, and the amount of dialogue he gets is awe-inspiring.

Plus I just like it that the game's biggest threat is a mere supervillain instead of a god of destruction like Final Fantasy and the like. Gives it a "Link VS Ganondorf"-kind of feeling.

  4. FE4 just tends to show a whole lot of murdered bloodlines. Other than that, its big twist of theme is only in repeatedly recycling the whole "Good people fighting for wrong/lost causes" thing that Camus codified. Any other theme it had just gets lost in the whole bald-faced retelling of FE1 the Second Gen presents.

FE10's whole Blood Pact thing is just too fantastic to make me take the Heroes VS Heroes deal seriously. I might've liked the "No one respects the king when it's their general doing all the work" angle if it actually showed any consequence deeper than Pelleas' abdication of the throne to Micky Sue, though Part II still managed to do a really condensed introspective of that without looking like it was.

So FE3's my pick. Somehow, it actually beat into my head MGS3's line about how "the times determine the sides", even though that line was really Kojima saying "the fan expectations determine how I sell out my visions", but eh.

  5. Methinks TC should replace Murdock with Narshen.

Valtome is annoying, yes, but I could never take him seriously. I can't really get worked up about "effeminizing smugface aristocrat"-type characters, since my first exposure to them was through the blatant-but-tolerable Crowler from Yugioh GX.

So yeah, Lekain takes the grand prize any day. There's a certain subtlety you need to work in order to create a truly hateable antagonist, and he runs with it perfectly.

Special mention goes to Narshen, though. FE6's writing managed to pull off the perfect follow-up to Kempf's despicability, and, for all its gaps in quality, Hasha's strongest point was where it managed to take Narshen into overdrive so I could really appreciate his character.

  6. I had a tough time between Marth and Roy for my favorite. I realized they were basically the same character, but as tiebreaker I considered that it's way more fun to have a lord with a 1-2 range superweapon at the endgame than it is to have a lord that always stays consistently mediocre. Plus I really liked his design.

Worst went to Ephraim. Boring design and personality, and he completely upstages the entire plot with his whole "I can do whatever I want without consequence" gimmick that he NEVER ONCE GETS PUNISHED FOR.
