  1. I agree that this specific Paladin is a true badass, but what's the harm in using two pairs to take him down? Have Severa kill one of the lesser Paladins (there is one who has a Lance, abuse weapon triangle to kill him with a Brave Axe) and then engage the Boss, possibly with healing in between if necessary.

After Severa and Gerome pounded him a bit, he shouldn't feel as reluctant anymore to fall to the engagement afterwards.

  2. If that's being speedy, she's definitely better at it than Donnel. As a non-GF lead she's pretty good.

Well you couldn't possibly know, because I'm referencing my own experience.

On my very first run of the game, I had Vaike!Kjelle with Aegis/Pavise/Sol/Axefaire/Deliverer as a General. I was so happy with how she performed, just like a little child. It's a bit embarrassing.

Now you just have to convince Endgame that Aether/Luna procstack is a viable alternative to Vengeance.

It's impossible, the guy is stubborn like a donkey.

  3. >.>

    <.<

Fred!Gerome has neither Axefaire nor AT...

But yeah it was PavGis+Luna/Sol. All those procs for his glorious +2 Skl mod.

I might have thrown in too many errors in my recent statements, now you're always being suspicious of everything I say! :D

Oh yes, PavGis. How could I forget about PavGis given all the Vaike!Kjelle vs. Donnel!Kjelle topics?

I apologize if I'm disrupting the conversation with these ramblings about old meta stuff. I just find it interesting to see how far things have progressed since then.

I honestly believe that Vaike!Kjelle is good at what she is destined to do.

  4. Well, OK. Just keep in mind that this is a general help thread and not strictly for challenge run theorycrafting- so in this case what the player is trying to accomplish is a clear of a map with a very large reputation that they may know pretty much nothing about. Extremes don't matter so much as simply having an idea of what you're up against.

After you (rightfully) challenged my claim about male vs female Morgan, I went into detail and explained every little thing about it. Don't you think that's interesting to know, too? These very specific posts would have helped my past self much more than any general advice would have done. Others might feel different.

That's not what it's balanced around- it's balanced around an average SRPG player, with Awakening as their first FE game, doing a full blind run on a file with entirely aesthetic pairings, lots of missed inheritances, maybe a few deaths, sporadic forges, no tonics, and maybe only half of their stats capped with LB.

I'd like to see evidence for this claim.

  5. In #117 I haphazardly mentioned whatever came to my mind and didn't really think everything through because I didn't anticipate you'd want to apply everything almost identically to what I said, please forgive me for that. I'll put more thought into it.

    [...]

There might be more interesting combinations. The one you suggests for the daughters seems like a revved up version of the super sorcerer in apotheosis secret. I'll search for inspiration in that map, even though I don't believe there to be too much more to learn from.

  6. Come to think of it, the M/C/Luna/Aggressor strat seems a little repetitious. What's your thoughts on the matter?

I think that setup has a good (maybe the best) chance of killing player units. If it's too boring, we can always throw in random stuff like Ignis, Vantage, Vengeance, Breakers, Aegis, Pavise [...].

I see your point, but what do you suggest to replace them with? I'm pretty much open for anything really. This is supposed to be fun for the player to fight against, after all~

  7. But for people who ARE looking to just get through Apotheosis for their first time and have a grand old stomping with their desired pairings, Female Morgan running around Aethering people is their definition of fun.

I know what Yoshi does, I'm just stimulating him with risky, distinct, questionable, half serious statements to spawn an intellectual discussion. I know he's got what he needs to participate in that. In fact I harbor great respect towards him for helping all the people out regularly, so much that I started thinking "I could answer this question, or I could wait for yoshi to do it in a more magnanimous fashion." Most of the time it's not even worth posting something because he covers most (and more) of what I would respond with himself.

Female Morgan running around Aethering people is their definition of fun.

Incidentally, I like Aether and Luna too. Much more than Vengeance. Because gambling is fun, and female Morgan is cute.

  8. Weaknesses can be done away with good play and knowledge of the game. If one has enough of the two, there will never be an instance in which a human weakness gets punished by the AI. Thus, the best way to play the game with optimization in mind, is to accentuate strengths to the extreme.

No support will ever out-damage Vaike!Gerome!Morgan when it comes to physical damage. This is what I meant with always.

When I say 'always', I assume the player is actually trying to accomplish something difficult and doing his utmost best to reach that goal. Fooling around with female Morgan as a General is wasting her potential. Extremes are all that matters post-game.

Nobody cares about a random person steamrolling Apotheosis with Limit Breaker, Aggressor, All+2, Rally Heart. My 9 year old sister can do that if I show her what she has to do.

People care about challenges. Contrary to popular belief, I'm certain that the developers never intended Apotheosis to be reliant on any DLC skills or classes at all. In fact, extreme modifier stacking on units is what enables challenge runs in the first place.

Making female Morgan a General just for the sake of her having the same ATK as male Morgan's Berserker is pointless. The two classes serve completely different purposes.

Even if I embark on your futile female General Morgan vs. Male Berserker Morgan scenario: It's clear as day that the support unit deals more damage than the lead unit. Just because they have the same ATK stat doesn't mean they're equal.

General S support gives +8 Str, +10 Def.

Berserker S support gives +10 Str, +8 Spd.

Which pair do you think will perform better. The one with a Berserker pair-up or the one with a General pair-up?

TL;DR: If you care about optimization, you will never make male Morgan a primary lead unit. That doesn't mean he won't have Galeforce to switch in from time to time to do a 1-2-1, where 1 is Morgan's partner and 2 is Morgan himself.

Male Morgan will always deal more damage than female Morgan when it matters, namely when Morgan is the support unit in a pair which allows Morgan to perform up to 8 attacks per engagement.

  9. For units who can execute it well. In my opinion, that's only units with Rightful King.

At the very least, Vaike!Nah as a Manakete without Rightful King and without brave effect isn't even worth mentioning, that's what threw me off there (towards the end of #110). Forgive me.

  10. Ok, let me rephrase again. What is the Atk rating we're looking for to "outright kill the enemy without procs?" Is there a golden number we want to hit? Like speed being 75 to double Anna?

That depends entirely on the enemies' defense/resistance, HP, skills and eventualities like weapon triangle influence.

  11. So you're saying that I misunderstood about Morgan. A male Morgan is preferable because of Aggressor.

And I understand what increases Atk and DS%. I was mostly wondering what increases those enough to get kills without procs. I assume tons of forged weapons mostly. Sorry for the confusion

Atk is the only reliable way to increase raw damage output, assuming hit rating is capped. If enough skill is accumulated, it is also a way to make damage more consistent. Once DS reaches 100%, it is a certain damage increase.

  12. Don't assume that just because he dislikes the game he's trolling. It seems like he's being honest and actually wants to discuss this, so if you have something to add, I know I'd like to see it.

    I'll come up with something.

how much of this game IS Optional to beat it?

Anything that doesn't have completing prologue through endgame as it's primary objective is optional.

well, if i am correct, if i am wrong please correct me, this includes all of side missions, all of the DLC, all of the supports, spotpass teams and boxes, map encounters, marriage by extension of optional supports, which also means all the children characters are completely optional, also pair up.

    Correct.

i'm not saying choice is bad, infact choice is good, more choice is good

Contingency is good. Thus, coercion is bad.

but alot of it being optional...i dunno how to feel about that.

It is optional precisely because it's not mandatory. Per your own definition, options are good. If you force people to endure certain aspects of the game, that's bad. I don't see any logic.

for example, i think the DLC this game had is the best part and there could've been an entirely different game just revolving around it, but on the other hand, i feel like the main game itself is very bare bones, which leads to this circle of discussions I've seen before on other places.

Some game developers can take their sweet time with game development. Most can not and are forced to produce results asap. The dlc was added after IS realized that the game is very successful. You're just complaining about the game because of personal bias.

"not a bad game, but the main part feels lacking"

"well there's all sorts of other stuff you can do, like ________"

"but i don't think some of this was handled very well so i have some criticisms about it."

"omg its optional anyways it doesn't matter."

Nothing but personal complaints. Not a single line here is praising the game for something it did right, blatantly implying it did nothing right at all.

i guess what i'm asking, which is the entire point of this topic, how much of a game's content should be required and how much should be up to the player?

All parts of the game which directly propel the plot should be required, everything else is optional.

more so with this game franchise.

I have no clue what this means.

also, is the "its optional so who cares?" statement legit in some cases or problem some in other cases depending on how much is actually optional and if its a good thing or not?

Your own definition is this: Contingency is good. Thus coercion is bad. There are no circumstances involved.
