  1. I am going to get some hate I am sure, but am I the only one who thinks the art style has been getting worse since Radiant Dawn? It's gotten darker and more dreary and more over the top (Minus FE4s hair styles) since then it feels like, and I am not fond of it.

Again all opinion, but I can't be the only one who feels that way.

  2. Almost every fire emblem game fits a stereotype for boss music, it always has a "normal boss" music "important boss" music, "villain" music, and "end boss" music, these would be (Can't say for Awakening or Fates as I haven't played those).

Normal: Err I forget the names of almost all of them, but you know them.

Important: Grudge Match, In the Name of Bern, Softly With Grace, Powerful Foe, A Mighty Foe, Stalking Menace, Clash of Two Virtues, and Tearing Shadows.

Villain: Dark Emperor, Versus Arvis, Spread Justice ~ Raydrik, Battle For Who's Sake, Everything in to Dark, The Prince's Despair, Against the Black Knight, and one from FE10 (A few fit)

Boss: Medeus, Doma, Dark Earth Dragon, Versus Julius, Spread Justice ~ Veld, Shaman in the Dark, Campaign of Fire, Return of the Demon King, To Challenge Ashnard, and A Grasping Truth

    I myself...

    Normal: Battle For Tomorrow (FE6)

    Important: Powerful Foe

    Villain: Dark Emperor

    Boss: Shaman in the Dark

  3. Saw the two other topics and decided I should come full circle. Only rules are no "generic bosses" (Bosses that appear for the chapter they are in and are never heard from again) as they are supposed to be gross and ugly.

Matthis (Though FE11/12 did improve it)

    Trewd (FE5)

    Oliver

    Gonzales

    Garret

Gheb (I know I said no generic bosses, but this is a fair exception)

And I'll throw in the "Gross dark caster" which consists of Gharnef, Manfroy, and Izuka

Didn't expect one to be in the middle of some generic mountains. It's a silver axe (5k gold), I found it when I had Shiida kill a flying dragon over the mountains. I rewound to be 100% sure I didn't add it to the enemy as a drop by mistake (Playing hard mode I made), but I am sure, I tried a bunch more times and it seemed to follow the normal treasure finding rate (% = Luck)

Seems there is still things to learn from these ancient games.

  5. I might go looking for that in the next week.

I imagine there will be a few bytes to change. I think one for the display and one for the levels up, I'm thinking. I know FE3 is capable of storing stats higher than 20 because of dismounting stat stuff.

That's interesting I totally forgot about that, which is kind of dumb considering late-game I always dismounted my units for level ups because stats were capped while mounted. As far as I can tell mounting/dismounting bonuses are based solely off class bases (There isn't some secret hidden stats dictating it) though I am guessing you already knew that.

this wording is a little weird, I think it would be more accurate to say that there is a hard stat cutoff code somewhere rather than the stats are 'stored' but that's just me

I think it's a decent enough description as that's essentially what it's doing, for example Shiida (And other pegasus knights) get +3 skill +3 speed and +6 resistance when mounted if she has 20 across the board as a knight (Dismounted) and mounts they stay 20, but dismounting will not return skill and speed to 17 as she already had 20 as a knight. So I think what he's getting at is she has 20 speed but gets +3 when mounted but due to the 20 cap it remains 20, yet also remain 20 upon dismounting.

Which I find a little odd as stats are saved as a direct value rather then the addition (Like FE4 for example), there must be something somewhere keeping track of it. (I know the last line was about the save and not the ROM itself but I figured it might be worth knowing)

    Example of my issue...

Most growths are in the 30% - 40% range, not unreasonable.

Makes end-game kind of boring and the classes are very blurred.

  6. Here is the book 2 army editors, when I finish book 1 I will upload everything, I finished chapter 16 so I have less then 10 left.

Also of note, anyone know where the stat caps are? As you know FE3 caps everything at 20, save HP which is 52 (26 for manaketes) and 12 for movement. FE5 also has caps of 20 but there was a hack that made them 30 so I assume it would be simple to do to FE3. It's a (What I assume) a single byte for everything since I looked for a string of 20s which (Not surprisingly) didn't exist (As stat caps). And I really don't know how to search for stuff well.

I was just kind of hoping to raise it to 30 as most characters end up being 20 across the board thanks to OP orb shards and the star orb (I could change the shards to give nothing, but that would be boring and I am not sure where the star orb's 30% increase is). Enemies have to be beefed up to handle it and late-game fights of characters and enemies with 20 across the board is lame and makes enemies like Hardin and Medeus not-so impressive.

  7. question, have you run into any issues with Marth not being the first unit in the party? When I messed around with FE3 I remember the game freaking out whenever he wasn't the first unit.

Yeah if I recall, the game over check looks to see if Marth is on the map, unlike later games where the main character actually dying resisters it. At least that's the best I could tell.

Oh yeah I finished the book 2 modules, going to finish my for-fun mod first, but I'll do book 1 after. Can I attach them to a post or do I have to use another site?

  8. I'm sure I'll at least make Book 2 Nyna a mage as getting four clerics in the first chapter would be way overkill, and you never see her as a cleric in the entire game (she's also a sage in FE11, fwiw). Changing Elice to a mage isn't all that bad of an idea either for quality of life -purposes and is definitely an option, but I'll probably keep the Falchion as Marth-exclusive.

Oh wow, you're right. I'm glad it seems to be an issue exclusive to the suspend feature, though.

Taking Gotoh into account would make things more interesting, but necessitate a few tweaks. He doesn't seem to have a starting level here, but that can probably be assumed to have been 18, as it was in FE1/11; I might also want to offset his inclusion by removing another character from the recruitment list altogether. On the other hand, there are people who think balance changes such as this go against the concept of a RR patch anyway, so we'll have to see what to do when the time comes.

I started a FE3 girls hack, nothing fancy though, pretty basic for my own amusement (Though I will post it if anyone is interested) and I made Nyna and Lena both mages since in the final chapter they use tomes. Maria starts promoted with her sister Minerva so that's not a big deal, but 3 clerics is still a lot (Malicia, Yumina, Elice), I will need to see if I can do anything better with it. FE3 has like no female classes. However, lack of bows has been very interesting so far (With all the fliers early on).

Though Marth is a pimp. I didn't feel like changing him for game-play reasons.

EDIT: Been having to use filler characters (I just use sucky useless generic guys) since there isn't many ladies to pick from.

  9. I've been taking notes for potential Book 1/2 Reverse Recruitment patches for a while now, and the army/reinforcement editors would finally make them possible (though I'd still have to edit the names in some other manner to not screw up Ellis' seizing capability or recruitments, seeing as changing unit names through the army/reinforcement editors results in that). The lack of Book 1 modules wouldn't necessarily bother me, since not too many people would be interested in B1RR to begin with and it'd have some serious balancing issues by nature.

[spoiler=C1 Est, what a balanced unit]

    ytfl26X.png

Oh that will be nice, I actually have a little more incentive to work on them now (That they will actually benefit someone). Just a heads up though my modules are made for a unheadered v1.0 ROM, though removing a header is easy, I'm not sure what the v1.1 differences are.

EDIT: Also if I recall right Elice has quite good growths herself, will she be a class that uses the Falchion? Or stay caster (And start as mage or cleric, since a cleric lord would be interesting and frustrating at the same time)?

Also of note, replaced characters if the chapter is suspended and resumed it reverts them to the originals, I have no clue why (Though on an emulator you would never really need to use the feature, but I still found it interesting).

EDIT (Again): For a Jeigan replacement you could use Gotoh instead since he does have unused data and Est could replace Shiida (And be not broken for 2 or so chapters)

  10. I like the map sprite find a lot.

I'm really not great at this, but I'm on a FE3 tangent atm so I will see if I come across anything else and I will clean up the modules and release them a little later.

If you are desperate I can release the book 2 army and reinforcement editors (Haven't done book 1 yet since it's much more boring), but I have only finished the event character editors up to 2-5. Event characters are ones from cut-scenes (Such as when Michalis rescues Minerva in 2-3 for example) and ones gotten via villages or things like that so almost all player characters basically (As most spawn via events). I would prefer to finish them first though.

I also still need to clean up some older ones that have unlocalized names. I'm using the NA version names as that's what the FE12 translation patch uses (FE3s patch was before Shadow Dragon was released if I recall), with the exception of Shiida and Doluna, which I have decided to go with the EU version because Caeda and Dolhr look retarded. That's not really relevant but I figured I would give a heads up.

  11. I started one years back but never got around to finishing it. It was pretty much a "clean-up" patch balancing weapons and classes and making unusable characters (Sophia for example) useful. And like anything else I make, the enemies received buffs in stats, weapons, and AI (Within reason, it was easier then FE12 lunatic, yet harder then Hector hard mode for example). It got lost on my old dead computer sadly.

  12. Been playing FE3 again recently and decided to fool around editing stuff. Needless to say there is not a lot known about the game as only about 0.52 people play or care about it. I assume not much has changed, but I was curious if anything new was found since I made those modules like what? 7 years ago or something like that? Especially since there has since been a translation hack (Likely other things were discovered in the process).

FE3 is an interesting case as it's data is all over the place, for example you might find a classes base stats, but don't expect to find growths or weapon data or anything anywhere near it, it's a total mess.

If there is enough interest (As in 3+ people) I will clean up the newer modules I have made and release them (More complete army editors, localized names, shop editor, class editors, character growths and bases, etc.) as well as a few basic notes I gathered.

EDIT: Also if anyone has the really funny Vyland hack that would be awesome to see.

  13. Disclaimer: I apologize if this is known already, but I didn't see anything on it.

I was messing around trying to find some fun codes to play with and accidently glitched up the game, but it was actually good because I was able to scroll through every item icon in the game and I came across some fun things... (Forgive the "E" from them being equipped, I couldn't get it to go away)

    http://imgur.com/QkbOsIP

The first 3 are leftovers from Shadow Dragon (Earthstone, Fake Imhullu, and Torch) but the other 2 seem to be new, the one on the left is the slim lance, an item that was in FE3, but didn't make it in to FE12, as is the 2nd one, the watch staff (I added it's FE3 icon for comparison). The watch staff has some history behind it, unlike most unused items it appears in multiple games and as far as I am aware is only usable in FE3 making the item unused more then it is used.

Just thought someone might find it interesting.

EDIT: Also all of the multiplayer stat card icons from Shadow Dragon still exist as well.

EDIT Again: Also found an unused female armor knight, male pegasus knight, and divine dragon classes. Also of note there is a buggy class directly after hero, perhaps a female hero?

I am going to assume the original idea was to make all class tiers of a type be available for class change, so for example females have access to the general class, yet no access to an armor knight, my guess is they intended for it at one point, in that case you would also have male pegasus knights.
