  1. I don't know. There's not really an easy solution to this.

Admittedly yes, several of Awakening's conversations do end up rehashing each other. I felt like having unlimited supports was a blessing and a curse. After all, I could get all the C-A(S) supports and find out my favorites in one long grind session for each character, but at the same time those character's problems within those supports was generally the same.

I began to wonder why I felt like limited supports were better. So I went back to play Fire Emblem and Sacred Stones to find out why. I was genuinely surprised by what I discovered.

There really isn't a difference between Awakening's supports and the supports of old. In grinding Supports, I found many characters in 7 and 8 retread the same character traits as it is. Sure, there are a few unique ones, but approximately half or more of Lyn's potential supports are about how she misses the plains (Florina, Kent, Rath). Hector's supports are about how he's a big unsociable lug (Lyn, Florina, Farina, Matthew), Eliwood's are all about how pure and innocent his is and how that attracted said person to him (Marcus, Ninian, Fiora). The difference is, there just weren't as many.

So, do I want them to cut out the support system to limited numbers like the old ones. I don't think I want it to go that far. Admittedly, I don't want people to romance/support EVERYONE EVAR, but I also recall 7 and 8 having some dynamics I wish I could have seen (Lyn/Guy and Lyn/Karel and Lyn/Karla being examples off the top of my head).

I think, though it's likely not going to happen, the first step should be the cut of the children characters in the next game. This would allow characters to stop at A, go to S, have a separate increase for love supports if those are separated from friend supports, improve the S supports in general so they aren't immediate marriage proposals. Question is, how would they do this?

I think a remake of 7 or 8 would give them that opportunity. I don't believe it's likely to happen, but that way they could test the water on seeing if fans will stick around if the child mechanic is removed so they can narrow the support field in the next iteration by a bit.

By the way, gems in awakening for the supports? Maribelle/Gaius, Gregor/Tharja, Lon'Qu/Tharja, Lon'Qu/Cherche, Gregor/Cherche are probably my favorites.

  2. My guilty confessions:

I spoiled most of the game for myself on all the paths.

On my first playthrough, most pairings I'll think I've planned wil likely never happen and it'll just kinda be whoever and whatever.

Later on, I will establish my 'cannon' pairings base don how the children act and which mother's would most contribute to that behavior (Same thing I did in awakening).

  3. This would be very difficult to do, but my wish for supports is actually this:

I can't see them getting rid of the Avatar system. Admittedly this is mainly because I love the concept myself, as I've always been a fan of it ever since the Tactician from Fire Emblem 7. Awakening was essentially a realization of this (Also the FE 12 we never saw, sadly, which I personally think did it a little better than Awakening). However, I hope they step away from the overly naive character to some extent. But how could they do this?

Add in some choice. The choice doesn't even necessarily have to majorly affect the outcome. Some of my favorite scenes in Awakening are where you as the player have a choice. Sure, events unfold the same either way, but do you make the harder choice to save more lives, or refuse it? It felt like it gave your avatar more personality, even when events played out the same.

I would improve this. Not only put choices in the main game, but also in the support conversations. If you have even one choice per conversation (3 for a C-A rank) you can feel a much more personal experience. Secondly, it's not impossible to assign relationship points to choices. Depending on how your character *clicks* with another (Cause say like, you're trying to romance a very militant person. If you make all the choices that are 'bashing' or 'against' military, he's not as likely to like you, right?) you can unlock an S rank between the Avatar and that character.

The potential problem with this would be people complaining that they have to make certain choices to make characters like them, but to be fair that's like real life. If you keep telling the military their wrong, they don't magically come around to your way of thinking, they just stop liking you. That way you could have different feeling A supports. Rivals, friends, confidants, while perhaps giving a better way to connect to the S supports when characters work better together.

Again, I know it's not likely to happen and a long shot by far, but that's what I think would help.

  4. No, but there are several gimmicks in them. Some good, some absolutely dreadful and only there to artificially make the game harder in all the wrong ways.

Ouch. Was hoping they'd add more variation in those paralogues.

Also, while I'm glad there's variation, I guess I'd be lying if I didn't say I hoped there would be a bit more. Which is weird, because I'm pretty sure there's more variation here then there ever was in FE7 and Sacred Stones, not even to touch on awakening. It's nice to see some maps will even have choices between whether you want to finish it one way or the other. I assume on normal it might be easier to say, clear the map, where on harder difficulties it may be too hard to do that so focusing on the boss before they close in may be the more important thing (or escaping or whatever.)

  5. I'm actually fine with exclusivity. Mostly because I want reasons to play all three routes beyond the characters maps and stories. Unfortunately, the third route is shaping up to have a majority of characters and likely the weapons and the most interesting story, though I think I'll play all of them first before reaching my final decision on that. The maps thankfully are unique which is pretty cool.

But yeah, I think exclusive weapons will hopefully give each route that extra flair it needs.

Although yeah, it's weird to see Brave and Killer weapons exclusive to routes now rather than available to all. Though to be fair when I did buy them I never used them cause they would break. Maybe I'll finally have reasons to use them this time.

  6. They should've trimmed the Neutral route's roster significantly because it looks like it suffers from the FE12 problem of having a large amount of characters basically amount to Free Silvers unless you do a large amount of babying or resource dumping (plus I just dislike the whole "both casts come together thing"). They could also do what FE6 did and give bonuses to characters on Hard and Lunatic by giving them invisible levels (using generic class growths) so they can keep up better (Lunatic gets higher ones obviously). They'd apply to all units who start as enemies and all allies who join after a certain point.

Definitely agree with you there. Or at least trimmed the cast more so that it didn't make people feel like the Invisible kingdom was the one true path since certain units (More units than there are, I should say) would be Nohr and Hoshido exclusive. Also, with the ending to both Nohr and Hoshido seemingly being more bitter-sweet at best, the all happy ending would've had more weight in the third path if a lot of the units that don't join you (Or some that do join you) were still to die anyway. Because drama and they did that on the other paths.

  7. Syalla on Hoshido, because I was never a fan of Tharja so her expy is on my least favorite list right out of the gate. Also, tsukiyomi looks like he's ten. I had enough problems with Nowi last game.

Éponine on Nohr. Mostly because Zero is the bi option, so on my first play through I probably won't marry him to a female just because I'll run out of people to marry others.

  8. You know what they should have done? Had a special edition with all three paths for the new nintendo 3ds. Just to make everyone who didn't buy one hate themselves.

Joking, by the way. I'm pretty sure they just couldn't' fit all three routes onto the cartridge, which is why they didn't try to, but it also let's them release the third route a little bit after the first two to keep the hype going and I'm sure help them sell more DLC down the line.

At the end of the day, still getting 3 games for the price of 2. I can live with it.

  9. Unless she "prefers" girls because she finds them cute in the way someone might find plushies or baby animals cute and is a "girl lover" the way someone could be an "animal lover" or "shoe lover". It may not be taken literally as loving something doesn't mean that mean the person is actually sexually attracted to it. Especially in this case if it was a habit formed from spiting Laswalds bad luck with women.

The main issue hasn't been about Soliel herself, but about Kamui slipping the magic powder into her drink without her knowledge. Even for someone naive to the ways of the world, it's a pretty not okay thing to do.

Though this does make me recall Tharja cursing people without their consent in a lot of instances in Awakening. That's just as not okay as this, right? So I can finally be justified in my dislike of that character?

  10. There were several articles about the game in English sites, right after the announcement of two versions, saying that the Norh story would be about the player attempt to "unite a broken empire from the inside."

    https://www.google.com.br/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=_dWXVbaIK4qk8we3sIH4DA&gws_rd=ssl#safe=off&q=%22broken+empire%22+inside+fire+emblem+IF+nohr

I don't know the original Japanese source of that quote, but it seems to fit much better with the Nohr campaign that we actually got. Since you spend many chapters stopping rebellions within Nohr, with the invasion against Hoshido only launched near the ending.

I think everyone who has looked into fates at all has realized how hard marketing is dropping the ball. They really play up the choice aspect, yet there's n choice to be made in-game as the advertisement suggests. You make your choice on the shelf before you've even booted up the game (Unless you buy the special edition). It's not so surprising that the Nohr story is misrepresented in articles as well. The issue is because they give what can be interpretated as flat-out misinformation, it's get people less interested in the game because they feel lied to.

Nohr was marketed pre-release as "uniting a broken empire from the inside." You do not do that on the Nohr route.

especially considering you don't rebel against Garon until the very end. It's a shame because seeing you defeat Garon early, the big bad in the Hoshido route, would've been cool to see. Then, you and Nohr siblings would truly have to work on uniting Nohr from within, which would still involve quelling rebellions and the like, while perhaps forging new alliances and even trying to prevent further war with Hoshido, who are now the ones out for blood (Mikoto being assassinated and all). No, instead you follow your orders and the big bad is pretty much the same on either side, admittedly with probably some nice tweaks and changes between the two. (Also Dragon Aids #BlamepoorTakumi)

Hopefully Nintendo learns from this and changes their marketing next time. I'm still pretty bitter about the whole 'choose your side thing.' Yes, I'm going to take such statements with a lot more salt now, but I still think saying that implies a certain attitude in the game itself, not before I buy the game on the shelf.

It makes puppies sad. Don't make puppies sad.

  11. I would imagine at some point there may be access to a DLC like in awakening, but for now there is no way to grind in Nohr. They may even opt not to give people a grinding DLC just to keep Nohr as the more challenging route in terms of gameplay. We'll just have to wait and see.

  12. I forgot about hair dye although I don't undertand why they would used it (I don't think they expected to see Lucina in this world).

The random villagers theory could work but it's kinda the easy way out. (This is only my opinion of course).

However, I'm curious to know if the 3 characters had any impacts in the main story of Fates (3rd route?) or it's only fanservice.

The only thing we know right now is that it is fanservice. Whether or not the try to bother with explaining why or how the fanservice exists... That's another issue altogether. Like what the other's said, the artists's used their default colors (Based on their mother's hair color) for this, so if you want to go into theory crafting these three come from an awakening verse where the children inherited their mother's hair color as well. Therefore, these three come from an alternate universe that exists separate from every single awakening play through ever, minus one instance where a male avatar with red hair the exact same as Cordelia's marries her and everyone else follows one of your options above. Even then, I don't believe there was a shade of red available to the avatar in awakening like that, but I could be wrong.

So yeah, they aren't the 'canon' awakening children that each of us recruited in our playthroughs on our worlds in awakening. No worries.

  13. She's like, the only Knight in the game from all the units I saw. I always liked knights, so I'll end up using her a lot. I also like that her design is both practical and cute.

Actually, does anyone know if there was another knight?

  14. So I slept on it. I still think the localization should address Kamui slipping a drug to her and instead have it be like... magic he attempted to cast or something. She could still maybe get a bit upset by it, but magic is a bit more flexible in terms of it's uses and ideally having Kamui learn not to just try things without asking people would be good. (Slip in some development for Kamui, why not?). As for Soliel's bisexualness, I guess I'll wait for full translations or the game before coming to a real conclusion now. Sure, it seems she's into cute girls, but if that whole getting back at her father (Inigo is Virion 2.0 after all) thing turns out true, it makes sense. So I've calmed my jet and am getting off the ride for a while. At least until some other big news comes along.

  15. I'll offer my two cents on two of the modes that people are concerned with. Now, I've seen my fair share of these modes and read a few translations of the things the characters say, but I don't read a lick of Japanese, so correct me if my analysis is inaccurate.

Let me begin by saying that I am 100% for keeping the game as it was originally intended.

The first issue I'm targetting is skinship. You gotta understand the context here. From what I've read, the skinship doesn't get suggestive until you're married with that character. Before, you were just touching their faces and you had a good laugh. After consent, you and your spouse are madly in love, and at a certain point, they just wanna fuck. As far as Pieri is concerned, you have to understand her character. She is a crazy ass bitch. She's immature and cries often, but has a blast killing people. If you decide you love her and want to marry her, you have to put up with her violent tendencies. She is socially frightening, and she wants you to be socially frightening with her or at least embrace it.

The second issue is the bathhouse. Really? Has anyone played the "Tales" series? Nearly every game I've seen/played has a hot springs scene or a collection of them. Hot springs in general are almost an unwritten requirement for anime-styled media whose goal is to attract that horny teenage to young adult demographic. It's EVERYWHERE! This mode is literally of zero concerns when maintaining a T-rating.

The only way I can see this getting an M-rating is if they literally have a character say, "Let's fuck. Right here, right now." All I see in the game so far is a T-rated game with a lot of descriptors. And, if a character does drop the F-bomb, that can easily be replaced with a less offensive word or a phrase that doesn't imply sex.

Was going to put a two cents in, but you covered my feeling on the subject nicely. So I'm just going to say I agree with you.

  16. It's... a strange support. It might be due to the translation, but it does come off really poorly. Especially since they seem relatively firm in having her getting weak and flustered enough to faint around cute girls and NOT cute guys. To be honest, she probably should've been the lesbian option. or an additional one. At least, that's the impression I get from this. Maybe after I sleep on it I'll feel less... conflicted about it.

  17. Actually if I buy one of the old 3ds, would it be a lower firmware than 9.3? Since I kinda want to use that translation that they got going on in the fan projects

Don't do it. A least sleep on it or something. Making this purchase no matter how much you want it will leave you with some amount of regret. Mostly due to the whole 'it's in japanese and you can't understand it' thing. It takes more away from the experience then you might think.
