  1. Just because Lester shares a weakness with most physical units doesn't mean you can just disregard it in a debate against someone w/o that weakness. Mages almost always have accuracy above 100. He kills them before they counter, but they get a shot in if they attack first.

Why the hell are you comparing them to Holyn!Swordkids? If you must drag Lakche and Skasaha into an argument that has nothing whatsoever to do with them, at least drag their better versions into it. Lester definitely isn't beating Lex!Swordkids in durability. And, Lex!Swordkids have Elite, so they're higher level as well.

The Arena is iffy for Lester. Chapter 7, The General with the Steel Bow is OUTSPEEDING Lester. He has 2 AS, while Lester is at around 0. So only 2 attacks per turn for Lester. He's doing around 8 damage per hit, so 16 per turn. The General has 59 HP, so that's a 4RKO. Meanwhile, the General is 2RKOing Lester with hit rates in the 60s. I can easily see Lester losing to this guy, not even counting Big Shield activation. Then, in Chapter 8, there's a Mage and a Mage Fighter in the Arena, both with Shield Rings. He can probably kill the Mage before he attacks back, but not the Mage Fighter. He's borderline doubling her too, so with some bad luck, he might be outsped. The MF 2RKOs him. Then, the customary General after the MF is also being borderline doubled. And then Chapter 9, 10 and F get into Barons with A Rank Magics. The one in Chapter 9 has 13 AS and 34 Mt. Lolpwnt?

Lolwut? Sety is seeing no action? That's laughable. You have Aless, Delmud, Lester, Fee, Fin, possibly Johan, and Nanna in Chapter 8 for mounted units. Aless and Delmud are admittedly good, Lester can't kill more than one enemy, Fee has bad durability, and since we're comparing Lester to Claude!Sety, Fee's father is Claude too. She can't critical, and I don't know if she's ORKOing Dragon Knights with the Hero Lance (Fin is here now, so that isn't even a full monopoly). I don't know if Fin is ORKOing without the Hero Lance either. Johan might not be there, and Nanna sucks at fighting. You think your mounted units can sweep the rest of it? Lester will die tragically if you bring him, because with Dragon Knights everywhere, and Mtns surrounding you, only Fee can block attacks over the Mountains against Lester. Sety, on the other hand, can solo the rest of the chapter even with Claude as his dad. Actually, just for Chapter 8's purposes, Sety can do better with Claude as his dad, since his AVO will be so high that they won't even attack with Holsety. If he takes it off, his AVO is worse, because his Speed wrapped around to 17. 60 AVO + 30 Mtn bonus while ORKOing everything is EPIC. If you argue that other foot units can also ORKO everything with high dodge rates, that's even worse for Lester. That means that even more people are doing better than him. None of your mounted units are going to be promoted, so they can't go on the mountain (except Fee, who doesn't get the bonus anyways).

Chapter 9 is more DKs, except now, it's ALL mountains from where Altenna and Trabant charge at you, so Lester isn't even fighting them.

BTW, Faval doesn't ORKO Armours with a Silver. So yes, Faval would like the Hero Bow.

My mistake. I looked at the Arch Knight strength cap of 22 by accident.

  2. If we penalize Karel for denying us Harken, we have to penalize Harken for denying us Karel. That just brings them both down unnecessarily. Sure, denying us Harken is more severe than denying us Karel, but I'd say Wo Dao > Brave Sword. My opinion. It depends on the characters you're using. Guy or Lyn would like that Wo Dao. A number of units would like the Brave Sword. Just take out cost.

I hope no one brings up Cyas versus Sety. >_> I still think Cyas should have somehow come with FFlame. They would have been closer to each other, even if Sety would still be better.

Canas is fine where he is. He's the only one besides Athos who can use Dark magic. Luna is awesome in this game. Eclipse has crap accuracy, but it's good on the rare occasion it hits.

  3. You make it sound like Lester is Lex or something. Sure, his concrete durability is better than your healers, but it isn't good enough for him to take more than a couple hits. His dodge is alright, but again, it isn't good enough for him to dodge reliably. Hence, he doesn't have good durability. These weak, inaccurate weapons can still kill him in a couple hits. And unless you also have a healer exposed, every unit that can will attack Lester. Not to mention, Mages murder him. 0 base RES with a 7% growth? Mages are also more accurate then Hand Axes and Javelins.

Lester is attacking one or two enemies per turn. Beating the Arena is iffy for him, while any half-assed Sety can storm through the Arena. He's not going to have so large of a level lead, especially since you've got to use other units. 60ish AVO is a lot more than some of your other units who'll be in the front. Sety may not get attacked.

Both Sety and Lester destroy Thracia, but once you get out of it, Sety keeps a good offence, while Lester doesn't. Lester might not even ORKO Armour Knights or Generals. I don't have the stats, but it's probably borderline if he does. His class has a totally crap STR cap. Also, Lester doesn't have a monopoly on that Hero Bow. Faval has no Thief Ring/Bargain Ring, he doesn't have a lover, and Ichival is expensive. His Silver Bow may not ORKO Armours either. PEMN, but I think he doesn't. Johalva can use bows as well. Leaf, though he doesn't need it, can use it too. Lester's entire life is built on that Hero Bow. Take it away, and he's shit.

This is all fighting. Let's not forget that Sety has Valkyrie, Reserve, and Libro. Sety can stay on the second line equipping Lightning, and heal your units from behind. Sety doesn't have to be attacked either.

  4. I dunno about Lester > Sety. Sety isn't invincible without Holsety, but he's still packing 80+ AVO with Claude as his dad. Probably a couple others as well, but those aren't magical fathers. 80 AVO is pretty good. He's still dodge tanking most generics.

Lester is ORKOing most things on Player phase, but has no Enemy phase action, and is an enemy magnet. He has crap durability too. The only people enemies target over him are your healers. Don't say "He can move after attacking, so he never gets hit!", because there are plenty of enemies with ranged weapons. The Chapter 6 Axe Knights, for example, 2HKO him with hit rates in the 60s, IIRC. And he's probably killing them in 4 hits, but not in two. Also, just because you have Canto doesn't mean you never get attacked. Sometimes you can't get him back far enough.

By the way, I'm against Levin!Arthur at top of top too. He should go down to bottom of top. He's killing about two Brigands in Chapter 6, so after the Arena, he'll be level 5. He's not going to be promoted before you get Sety. And Sety can actually dodge without Holsety and kill at the same time. Hell, depending on the Dragon Knights' HP, Hawk might be able to do it better (assuming Arthur doesn't have the Pursuit Ring). He has 36 POW with Lightning, and 50 AVO.

  5. My main problem with Arthur (and Tinny too), is that he can only use Anima magic. He has swords, but his strength is crap, and every chapter in the second gen except 6 and 8 have Dark Mages. 6 doesn't matter, because Arthur barely does anything in that chapter. Chapters 7 and 10, for example, are brutal for him. Chapter 7 has Dark Mages that 2HKO him at hit rates of 98%, while he does 12 damage after doubling. Then, the rest of it is a crapload of troops outside Melgen he can't survive against, and a couple Thunder Mages and the troops with Blume. Chapter 10 has a whole bunch of Dark Mages at the beginning in formation. They have Hel and Fenrir. That's a 2HKO as well. The middle part is a bunch of mounted units, which he can fight against, and then another bunch of dark mages with Hel and Fenrir. These ones have Ishtar and Julius with them as well. The end part is a squadron where the generics have Hero weapons. He definitely doesn't want to fight those either.

  6. The only times I've managed to beat Kishuna was on Eliwood's mode, where it doesn't matter. On Hector's mode, I have horrible luck with 50-60 hit rates, and I'm too lazy to restart.

  7. I'd say Julia is slightly better. They both get 2HKOd, but she has Resire to heal herself. Due to her high MAG, as long as she doesn't get doubled, she'll probably do more damage than she takes. She's also invaluable against Dark Mages, because even if she doesn't ORKO them, she brings them to low health, so that someone else can finish them off. And unlike everyone else, she survives more than one hit due to Resire. She promotes into Sage, one of the best classes in the game. She might never get a horse, but she does still have 6 movement after promo. Plus, she can heal up to B Staves. Not sure if it really counts, but she gets a point for having the best chance to kill Julius.

Meh. I guess he can stay where he is, but Julia goes up.

  8. Arthur's AS isn't high enough to have a really amazing AVO even equipping Wind, because his class has the lowest Speed cap of all promoted classes, only 22. In this game, most people can kill one unit. The hard part is surviving the other 10 that come with that one unit. He also has 5 movement, and you didn't address that. You have to move slower every turn so he can keep up. And for what? What's so special about him? He doesn't have a holy Weapon, he can't heal, and he doesn't have awesome skills. He's just another unit. There's nothing special about him. There's nothing cool that only he can do. Yes, he's beating the Arena. He wouldn't even promote if he couldn't beat the Arena.

  9. Noish isn't a bad pairing for Aira, but how the hell does Continue and Critical beat Elite and Ambush? Minor Neir blood does nothing for them weapon wise, as they can't use Axes, but the growth bonus is pretty nifty. So yeah.

Another thing; pairing Levin and Tiltyu is horribly inconvenient. You have to practically glue Tiltyu to Levin to get it, which is hard considering how often Levin is soloing at the end of Chapter 4 and all of Chapter 5. Fury and Levin, on the other hand, automatically fall in love from just one conversation in Chapter 4.

Holyn x Brigid is pretty good, but Lex x Brigid is probably better for Patty. Faval is slightly worse, but he doesn't really give a damn. Jamka x Aideen is crap. Lester doesn't get Pursuit, which ruins him, and Rana is pretty much the same.

In the end, it's really all up to you. Either way, try to make use of Elite. It's simply too good a skill to not pass on.

  10. I honestly don't think Azel!Arthur should be in Upper Mid. He's basically Azel with Wrath. Wrath is good in the Arena, and to pick off one or two enemies, but you can't use it very much otherwise, because all Arthur will do is get hit, KO the enemy, and then get killed by the next enemy.

He has low movement, and promotes to get a horsie around Chapter 10, which is filled with Dark Mages he can't beat. And then in the final, he doesn't have a Holy weapon, and he can't heal either, so he's pretty much useless.

As great as Arthur is with Holsety, he's just not that good without it.

  11. Random fact: Levin!Corple at level 30 equipping Holsety has only 18 more AVO than level 30 Claude!Sety equipping Elwind. It becomes 24 if Sety's equipping Lightning. And Prayer too, I guess. But no Pursuit. Sylvia doesn't have it, does she?

Considering Ishtar pulls off 209 hit with THammer and her leadership bonus, she still has 65 hit on him after factoring in his 99 AVO, two Charismas (no Laylea when you have Corple), WTD and Celice's leadership bonus. Far too high considering he's not OHKOing her without Critical activating, and she herself has Continue. He has a 32% chance of Critical activating, and a 19% chance of Critical activating on a Continue. So he has a 55% chance of not killing her. Ishtar has a 12% chance of activating Continue and hitting him both times. A bad chance, but still a chance. The most that can be said for Corple is that he doesn't bring her down to below half if he doesn't activate Critical or Continue (33% chance), so someone else can finish her off without Ishtar's Ambush activating.

Edit: I forgot that Holsety gives +10 Skill, so I just changed my numbers a bit.

  12. Here's something. I think Vanessa needs to go down.

Why? Well, she's dependent on her supports, yes? Her supports are pretty slow. 15/2 and 10/2 starting at C4 is...is about 33 turns for Moulder, 35 for Lute. This is even more problematic when you consider that chapters are often pretty short due to lolSeth and everything, plus the fact that Vanessa needs to restrict her movement to build them isn't helping. When do people realistically see her supports activating?

It probably varies on the different routes, but in Eirika's, I get A Moulder B Lute around Chapter 14. However, I put them together practically every turn. My Vanessa gets slightly underleveled after that, but she catches up after slaughtering all the Wyverns in Chapter 15 with a Dragonspear. So 14 if you don't mind having her slightly underleveled, maybe around 16/17 is she isn't, though.

Strangely enough, I don't think I've ever used her in Ephraim's mode.

  13. Why is Ross in Lower Mid in Eirika's mode? He's practically the only person who can get you a Rapier in Chapter 9. One of the Pirates in the lake below your starting point can't reach the sand with his Hand Axe, so you either need to send a Pirate of your own across the water, or try to have Vanessa kill the Pirate. Maybe I'm just making stuff up, but I recall that Pirate having high Speed. Like around 12 or 13. She won't double if that's the case, and she gets 2HKOd. Plus, he has a Hand Axe, so he can attack without receiving a counterattack, unless she's using a Javelin with crap accuracy. If you don't kill that Pirate, no Rapier for you. Vanessa can't just fly over to the village bypassing the Pirate either, because there are Archers there.

He has troubled getting to level 10, but no one is ORKOing enemies which aren't Soldiers or monsters reliably. Besides Seth. He can get a couple kills here and there, and one kill and one hit is a level for him. If you really really favour him, he can even be promoted by Chapter 4(Not that I'm advocating it), due to his high Exp. gains. He has trouble doubling as well, but so do other units.

  14. Unless you Arena Abuse or Tower Abuse Vanessa, no Rapier for you in Eirika Mode Chapter 9 without Pirate Ross. One of the Pirates in the lake can't reach units standing on the sand where you start, so the only way to stop him is to either have a Pirate of your own, or an uber Vanessa.

There's 7 magic units who need to promote, and 5 Guiding Rings. Moulder, Artur, Lute, Natasha, L'Arachel, Ewan, and Knoll. You don't need more than one promoted healer, you have plenty of fighters. If you want a second healer, they can get either the last promotion or not promote at all. Knoll sucks, and Ewan is good, but requires massive Tower Abuse. So you can promote a healer, Lute, Artur, maybe Knoll/Ewan for summons or dark magic, and another healer, who can promote at Chapter 17. Or, if you go with a Summoner, the Summoner can promote at 17. Guiding Rings aren't really that bad.

  15. No one hates on Sety for six movement? That's one of the two reasons why people put Arthur over Sety.

France, you're contradicting yourself. You're saying Arthur without Holsety takes away from efficiency. Alright. But you're also saying that giving Sety Valkyrie denies you a superior Sety, which makes no sense, because the only Sety superior to Claude!Sety is Levin!Sety. And apparently, having Sety's dad be Levin takes away from efficiency.

Claude doesn't just give Sety Valkyrie. He also allows him to use A rank staves like Reserve, and gives him good MAG, LUK, and RES. Sety with Claude or Azel as a father is probably the only person who can status Julia without a Magic Ring. But Azel only gives him higher speed, which is unnecessary, as Claude allows him to cap it as well. And Volcanon, but that ruins his AS. Claude!Sety can also disregard status staves with his RES. Unless you're on of the advocates for NoishxFury?

  16. First off, Johalva has Charge, not Ambush. Johan has Ambush. Leaf with Pursuit and Elite can possibly promote at the start of 9, especially if he gets to help a civilian or two in Chapter 8. Pursuit Ring may be expensive, but he should get Elite passed down. How exactly does Johalva get so much money if Leaf can't? And Leaf starts off by 5 villages in Chapter 7. Also, one of them has a Speed Ring, IIRC, so that gives him a better chance to actually double with that Pursuit Ring. Johalva has 16 base speed and a 10% growth. Hero Axe has 12 weight, so 4 AS at base. I'm not sure exactly what he's doubling with that. Leaf has 5 AS base. That's equal by itself to Johalva's speed at level 20 promoted. And he also has 5 from the Speed Ring. Even if you give that to Johalva (10k more gold for him), Leaf's keeping it at least until Conote. Probably until the end of the chapter.

Johalva isn't getting gold in Chapter 6, because there's only two villages left for him. One has a Skill Ring, so you should probably have Skasaha or Lakche visit it. Or Fee if she has Critical. The other one is too far anyone but Fee and Oifaye to reach without a Leg Ring. He beats the first 6 units in the Arena. That's 18.5k. And then in Chapter 7, there's one village for him. But no, Laylea gets a Barrier Sword from that one. He beats only 4 enemies in the Chapter 8 Arena, for 25.5k. But Leaf has at least that much from the villages and his inheritance. There's 6 villages in Chapter 8, but one of them has the Thief Ring, which Aless is probably getting, and Johalva isn't getting there in time anyways. One of them is out of Leaf's way to get, and is in Johalva's way, so now he also has 30.5k. Johalva and Leaf have equal opportunity getting the other 4. That's not all that much more gold. If they split the villages, Leaf now has around 35k, while Johalva has 40, but Leaf can get the rest in the Chapter 9 Arena. Now they can both buy it.

  17. Seriously? I got the Hero Sword to 60+ kills in first gen. Aira started critting with it near the end of Chapter 4, and she got about 10 kills after that. I mean, the Arena alone in the last three chapters is 21 kills. Surely you can rack up 29 kills with it?

And Silver Sword has 5 Arena Chapters, so 35 kills right there. It's practically impossible if you do the Arena not to get critical on the Silver Sword.

  18. Actually, Azel can pass down A swords as well to Delmud. Even if the father can't use the sword, if the son can, it gets passed down. On my first playthrough, I had an unpromoted Beowulf give a Silver Blade to Delmud. Unless Beo only passed down the Silver Blade because he could have used it in the future.

  19. Did you hard patch it or soft patch it?

It's patched so it doesn't matter what method you use to patch it.

Do you know if your ROM has a header? You can check using a Hex Editor or some ROM utilities. That's the probably the issue.

    EDIT

You should read the very bottom of the first post of this topic. I just added it now. Hopefully it makes sense o__o

Right. I made three copies of the ROM, and patched it with all 3 patches. The HRom was the only that worked. For the other two, the screen simply went black, and it wouldn't start up. So I'm guessing it has a header. How do you remove a header?

  20. Not sure if this is the right place, but... Anyways, my problem is that when I patch my FE5 ROM, when I try to move a character, after I tell it to move to a specific spot, it freezes. I've tried restarting, tried restarting and moving different characters, but it always freezes. However, it only happens if I patch it. If I don't, it works perfectly, except I can't understand anything. I'm using the patch which is this forum says is the best, and I'm using ZSNES.

Should I use a different patch, a different ROM, or a different emulator?
