  1. Why in gods' name would they add terrible characters like Ike next to the riveting Corrin?
  2. There is nothing wrong with voicing your disappointment. Blind optimism for the sake of pretending to have a grand ol' time is simply meaningless.
  3. The fact that we live in a world where Peri is far more likely for an FE Warriors game, a game so many of us have dreamed for so long, than the like of Ike, Roy, and Lyn (all of whom are literal icons of the series) is sad. Simply sad.
  4. Also, I just found out that there is debate whether or not the playable characters will be "mostly" or "only" from Awakening, Fates, and SHadow Dragon. The person who originally translated it strongly believes the proper translation is "only" So yeah, Ike and Lyn most likely stand no chance of being in the base game, despite being the most popular characters from the series. And this game;s base roster is supposedly going to have the largest base roster count ever. RIP Tellius, Magvel, Judgral, Elibe, and Valentia. Damn, this hurts. SOURCE:
  5. I suppose so... Perhaps I am being too negative. I just think that harsh negativity is sometimes required to create a diverse discussion which accounts for all viewpoints. Sorry if I offended anybody.
  6. While I may express my opinions as pessimistic, someone has to do it. If we were all optimistic about everything, then we would be blindsighted to so many things. So yes, I will gladly express my pessimistic viewpoints to counter all of the blind optimism I often see. I am an ardent believer that all the game sin the series should deserve representation in some form or another. And now, I am simply asking not even for that, just for the two most popular characters in the entire series to be included. If they aren't included, then I think my disappointment and pessimism are entirely warranted. And I know that I wouldn't be the only one.
  7. All I'm saying is that if neither Ike, nor Roy, nor Lyn appear in atleast some fashion, then that would be a stab in the back of so many fans. Notice I am not clamoring for other lords, like Hector, Alm, Celica, Ephraim, who even have a smaller chance of making it, and other fan favorites like Ranulf, Soren, Joshua, Mae, who literally have no chance of making it in, I am just asking for those 3. Ike and Lyn are literally the most popular characters in the series. If they don't make it in the base game, and are going to be sold as DLC, I will feel immensely betrayed as a longtime supporter of the series.
  8. No, I didn't, because IS hates every game not named Awakening and Fates. But at the very least, I expected Ike, Lyn, Roy, and Hector to be in. That is not expecting too much to ask for. All four of those characters are way more beloved than the pathetic Corrin. But ofcourse, IS is to blindsided to realize that because all they care about is $$$.
  9. If neither Ike, Roy, or Lyn are in this game, the three most popular characters outside of Awakening and Fates,.... then IS can suck it. Screw you IS. I will no longer support IS in their future endeavors and will encourage others to do the same. Fire Emblem is done for.
  10. IGN hates every Nintendo franchise except Zelda, which for some reason they are slaves to, since Zelda HAS to for some reason get 9.5-10s all the time (see Skyward Sword).
  11. I can't believe a few folks here are trying to defend IGN's horrible review. They called the game Shades of Valentia before fixing it for crying out loud!
  12. Pretty good reviews overall. Surprised that IGNorant gave the game a 7.8/10(too much water i.e. boat maps). Most other reviews seem to be a 9, so that's a very good sign. I'l just take IGN's review as a one-off.
  13. Why would you sabotage an opportunity for a member of our community on Serenes? Like him or not, he is at the forefront of the hardcore FE fanbase.
  14. Thank God. The 3DS screen is unbearable to look at in the year of our lord 2017.
  15. Johnny claims to be a huge Fire Emblem fan, but he has rarely talked about the series oh his channel. Once, during his game room tour, he had a holo Sacred Stones Store Display, and said that he was a fan of the series. Then, during the amiibo craze, when he decided to sell all his amiibo, he claimed to only keep the Earthbound and FE amiibos and sell the rest. In another video, he talked about how his wife played Tokyo Mirage Sessions, and realized that it was a "crossover" between FE and SMT. And now, this unboxing video of Echoes Limited Edition (which let's be honest here he wouldn't have made a video about it if Nintendo didn't send him a copy, and is expected to do some sort of promotional material for it. I'm not even sure he requested that Nintendo send it to him, since it seems that Nintendo sends him most major first party releases as is, since he's Nintendo brand ambassador). All things considered, he does have the Famicom games, and a few other games in the series, though I think that really isn't as much of a fan as he claims, and simply has those games for collecting purposes, as he has never really ever sat to just solely talk about FE in any real capacity before. ... which is fine, I guess. It just sucks that hardcore fans like Ghast won't get this from Nintendo, when Ghast really is the "Gaiden Mascot" in the FE community. But then again, Johnny has a huge audience, outside of just FE, unlike Ghast, whose audience is limited to hardcore fans who would buy the game regardless of Ghast showcasing it or not. Perhaps Johnny could appeal to more people to buy this game, with his large audience, positivve vibes, and great video presentation, which is probably how Nintendo noticed him in the first place.
  16. Fire Emblem sales are heavily frontloaded, meaning that the majority of sales occur during launch week, then drastically drop off in the following weeks, then don't even make the top 20 list in a few months. FE has always been like that, along with Zelda. Mario Kart, Mario games in general, Pokemon, Splatoon, Smash, and Animal Crossing are Nintendo's evergreen franchises, meaning that they stay in the top 20 for years.
  17. Hey there. I'm Dandee, and I like Fire Emblem, a lot. I've already posted on the forums without an introduction, but I figured that I should perhaps formally introduce myself to the Fire Emblem community, of which Serenes is the primary hub for for all things FE. I was first introduced to Fire Emblem as I assume many of you were, via Marth and Roy in Smash Melee. Roy was my favorite character, and back then, again, like all of us as kids, I thought Roy was way stronger and better than Marth because of the pHiRe. Still, I didn't play Fire Emblem until after Brawl was released, which had Ike instead of Roy. My friend showed an interest in Ike, and did some research and ended buying Path of Radiance. After seeing him play it, I figured, that I liked Ike well enough to try his game as well. But in 2008, I couldn't find Path of Radiance, and I wanted to impress my friend (ah we were kids) by showing him I had the sequel, Radiant Dawn. And so I had the game, and I played it. And oh my gosh, it was amazing. The characters, the story, the epic scale, the tactical gameplay, the music, I loved all of it. And so with Radiant Dawn as my first foray into the series,I began to seek more of the games. I've played Path of Radiance (after borrowing it from the same friend), FE 7 and Sacred Stones on virtual console, and Awakening and Fates, and I am eagerly anticipating Echoes. My favorite game will forever be Radiant Dawn. And my favorite character has to be Ike. Ike is so relatable, and unlike all the other lords, he was not a noble, and had to earn his respect. Ike cares about all people, and does not care for following the trite and meaningless traditions of nobles. He fights for the equality of all, and continues to fight for what he believes despite all the pain he experiences. Aside from Fire Emblem, I love all things Nintendo. Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, Pikmin, StarFox, etc all share a special place in my heart. I grew up with these franchises, and I am an avid fan of a lot of them still. I'm sure many of you guys here are also huge Nintendo fans as well, since FE is indeed a Nintendo IP itself. And although I haven't played a lot of games outside of Nintendo, I am in general fascinated with games in general, and hope to play more games when I can afford them by myself when I become and independent adult in a few years. Speaking of myself outside of my gaming interests, I am in college, 21 years of age, studying computer science. I want to become a game developer when I grow up. I like sports a lot (with Tennis and BasketBall being my favorites), love sleeping (haha), reading, among other things. I hope to make a presence as an eventual longtime member here on Serenes Forest, and I look forward to getting to know a lot of you here. Cheers. --Dandee Leone
  18. I don't think it's A-Tier, unless an S-Tier exists. And I'm not just saing this based off of my dismal perspective of Echoes' sales, but even including Awakening and Fates' sales. Mario, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and Zelda (although Zelda doesn't sell as well as the previous three, I bleieve BotW can reach 10 million, and industry praise of Zelda alone makes it enough for it to be in the same tier). Fire Emblem has to be a tier lower than those guys, because it doesn't sell like Mario or Pokemon, and does not have the same level of praise as Zelda. It's in the same tier as Kirby. And while I thought that it had potential to reach the big guys eventually, I think that a tier below those four is where it will stay.
  19. I'm not saying that the FE series is in danger of dying, all I'm saying is that IS literally has no financial incentive whatsoever to implement old mechanics not constrained to just Awakening and Fates. This is undeniable. Heck, IS has been treating Chrom and Lucina as mascots more that Marth as is (while Chrom is my fav lord, him replacing Marth, the OG, is sacrilege) Now, while I personally wouldn't mind, since I loved Awakening, I still do like mechanics and the thematic structure from older games as well, and for the sake of appealing to as many fans as possible, I would prefer FE Switch to be a blend of old and new. I know Gaiden is far different from any of the other pre-Awakening games, but to see it do as it did despite its high Famitsu score, is a shame.
  20. There is a very good reason I said that. Remember, it was after New Mystery of the Emblem that Nintendo told IS that the next FE game would have to sell a certain amount (250 k I believe) in order for the FE series to continue. And guess what, Echoes in its first week sold less than the game that Nintendo decided was the breaking point and finally told IS that their next game would be their last should it sell similarly. So yes, financial failure is a completely adequate way of describing Echoes.
  21. Ofcourse the New 2DS is for people who don't already have and existing system within the 3DS family, but the fact that it releases in 2017 speaks something larger, that Nintendo is still serious about supporting the 3DS, at the very least this year, and very likely next year as well, meaning that the 3DS still has about a year and half of life in it. That's what I was saing, that as of right, the 3DS isn't dead, and still has a healthy life going for it. Infact, this year's release are already better than the 3DS launch year, as well as 2015 (where we literally got crap games for the most part).
  22. First off, Fire Emblem always have frontloaded sales, meaning that the majority of each game's liftime sales occur during launch week. Secondly, an FE 4 remake indeed does have a much higher chance than Echoes: SoV to bomb because it would be developed for Switch, and HD assets and making use of the advanced Switch infrastructure would cost way more money to develop for than the 3DS, meaning that it would have to sell much more than SoV to break even or make a profit. Thirdly, you only ever see people clamoring for remakes online, in dedicate gaming forums. To the average newbie who joined the series with Awakening and or Fates, they could care less about a game from the past, and will simply want a new game with familiar mechanics from the two they played instead of having to deal with the different mechanics in older FE games.
  23. Another point of contention, claiming that Echoes success is compounded by the notion that the 3DS is a dead platform couldn't be further from the truth it seems. Just yesterday, Nintendo announced a series of New Nintendo 2DS XL systems, supporting a sleek, clean and pretty clamshell design with all the feature of the New 3DS, simply minus the 3D. Fire Emblem Echoes also isn't some sort of last hurrah for the system either, as several first party titles, from Hey Pikmin and an unannounced Kirby 25th anniversary multiplayer game are headed for 3DS after Echoes. Plus, I think that the rumored Pokemon Stars, will infact not launch exclusively on 3DS, or maybe both 3DS and Switch (which would be weird). Remember, Pokmon Black and White 2 came out well into a year after the launch of the 3DS for the OG DS. The 3DS is far from dead, as it seems to be getting hardcore support from Nintendo not only this year but possibly even next year. Thus, there are really only one of two factors for Echoes being a financial failure: 1) Classic/Old FE based gameplay, mechanics, thematic structures, simply have no place in 2017, an era where Awakening and Fates and their new mechanics spurred a seemingly golden era for FE. 2)Literally no one cares about Echoes, since it is a remake of Gaiden (which is perhaps the most hated and divisive game in the franchise, falling apart of the infamous "number two" sequel that plagued the NES, like Zelda II and Mario II being a Doki Doki Panic reskin).
