Oh wow, Matagroth is even sillier now. He carries a large shield for an effective 26 defense. Wearing down shields is also not really a feasible strategy. They just have way too much durability. And it's not depleted if the attack wouldn't have dealt any damage anyway.

Still, I got plenty of new tools too. So maybe this will actually turn out to be easier than before.

He read that email of the fan that had nightmares of Matagroth at night and decided it wasn't enough. He wants his fans to have nightmares of Matagroth during the day as well!

Bonacel gets the Guard skill and now has build in effective damage against cavalry.
Prody lost Good Neighbor and has a random chance to not lose weapon durability.

Prody is definitely not doing so hot. Hopefully he was at least blessed with a different skill to replace Good Neighbor II.

Guard is also a lot stronger here then in Berwick Saga, considering you get to move all your units at once.

Kaga: "The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma." Nerfs who was already one of the worst units in the game.

At least it seems he's made Bone Cells actually half-worth the time of day now. That's nice. But seriously why take away Prody's singular claim to fame? That's so weird. Kaga, what are you plotting? Is he getting Super Pursuit at level 25 now?

It is kinda out of character after 20 years. At least the music channels and rom hacks existed in a gray area.

I suppose we'll see how it pans out, but... Well, once more, Garry says it's real. I don't know how he ascertained it but it's not like they'd be jumping at the opportunity to comb 20 years worth of content to remove. That's a massive ordeal and it only serves to piss off the community. Which is, on the other hand, a very Nintendo move, what with their treatment of (some series') fangames and all.

Instead of "Three Shadow Sisters" the leader refers to themselves as "Three Shadows - RELATION WITHHELD"

I can confirm it has really pleased the trans folks I know.

It has happened before, with those Nintendo music channels. Happened to SilvaGunner. So there is precedent of a faker.

I mean, yeah, but Garry says it's real. And let's not kid ourselves, fakers are a thing that happens but this isn't out of character for Nintendo either.

  5. 3 minutes ago, Armagon said:

The really strange thing is is that there's apparently evidence that this is an impersonator. But then Gabe confirmed it was actually Nintendo???

Idk shit's weird even by DMCA standards.

Not Gabe lmao, Gabe's got nothing to do with this. It was confirmed by the creator of Garry's Mod, Godeau Newman.

...Nah, Garry Newman. But yeah, he confirmed this is legitimate and happening. It does look like there was some kind of impersonator running around for some time before, but with Garry himself confirming the C&D's legitimacy, trying to pin this on the Peters guy seems more like copium than anything else. I suppose we'll see how it pans out, though.

I can only guess that it comes down to the same argument when it comes to Copyright:

It must be protected, lest you lose it.

Best (stretching definition of best) case scenario, this was done as a precaution measure. Worst case scenario, something behind the scenes must have gone off regarding the validity of their Copyright claims and they scrambled into damage control mode.

Pretty nonsensical way to go about it, but that's very in-character for Nintendo, isn't it? They do everything wrong except for the games themselves.

  7. 5 minutes ago, Acacia Sgt said:

At the end of the day, they're still copyrighted. Any unauthorized use is a breach of the law.

That's indeed the reason they are able to do this, they are well within their legal rights to do it. Being legal, however, doesn't mean being right, and I just don't see what they hope to achieve with this stunt.

They've just decided to fuck people over for no reason. Fucking incredible.

Yes, it's quite questionable why they decided to act on this now all of a sudden.

Yeah, this. Why do it now? Whatever damage Gmod could've ever done to their brand is long done. All they get from this is a loss of goodwill as they further establish their reputation as "dinosaur company that hates when their fans have fun with their property." This is not going to get them any more money. To be a fly on the wall in Nintendo's lawyer hideout...

  8. 5 minutes ago, Lightcosmo said:

Well, at the end of the day they are a business, not too surprising.

I have no idea what benefit they derive from this. The only thing I can come up with is brand protection, but even then, it's coming so, so late. Mario suicide was uploaded 16 years ago. Where were the C&Ds then? Doing this at this point is a completely random, completely idiotic move that only serves to piss people off and set a(nother) bad precedent.

I do, however, have to thank them for providing further incentive to my ongoing "convince myself not to buy Nintendo's next console so as to spend less money on this hobby" initiative.

  9. Okay, so Nintendo's gone off the deep end now. You know, just a tad more than usual.

I don't even understand what the point is here. With piracy the point is that people could be playing downloaded games instead of buying their shit, with fangames the point is that people could be playing fangames instead of buying their shit, and with game footage online the point is that people could just watch playthroughs instead of buying their shit. At least I can follow the logic there. But what's the logic here? How do goofy animations of Meyro and Loogi being uploaded to Youtube sometimes affect Nintendo's bottom line? Especially now, 20 years into Gmod's existence.

They've just decided to fuck people over for no reason. Fucking incredible.

Tbqh I don't think either Suikoden 1 or 2 are particularly good stories, 1 kinda falls too much into a generic "good rebellion defeats evil empire" story without much to make it stand out, 2 meanwhile has some interesting ideas, like showing how killing the big bad guy doesn't necessarily stop a war, but the overall storytelling still comes out as rather haphazard, with a few strong moments barely saving it. I would say the most memorable thing about both games is their unique blend of faux Middle Ages Europe with faux Song dynasty China in their setting, and some of the small arcs, like the party setting off to defuse tensions between elves and dwarves.

Honestly, I wish these stories took more from Water Margin. I really miss my dark comedy doubling up as a satire of society, complete with questionable "heroes" lol.

    Oh dear.

Well, I can't exactly contest or attest to it, since the difficulty and translation - or lack thereof. On both ends. - filtered me super hard with these games.

...I did play Exit Fate, though. I thought that one was really good.

  11. I gotta ask though, IntSys the heck did you do with Engage? While there are major improvements, Ryujinx still struggles to run it in certain situations. For instance, the blizzard pastlear map (where I left off) chugs immensely.

    Mario__Rabbids_Sparks_of_Hope_2024-04-24

Meanwhile Sparks of Hope throws me into this absolute clusterfuck of particle effects and it runs without a hitch. Or, at least, negligible enough hitch that it's not really noticeable. How? I had very little expectations for Sparks of Hope...

But this whole affair is how you get resources.

Not like there is a convenient "collect everything" button.

True... It's not like there's a cheat code I can use to give myself all the resources so I don't have to ever bother with Fates's stupidest mechanic. Of course, how could there possibly be such a thing in my completely legit Nintendo PC that I use to play this game. Haha. Haha...

Not like they ever remove their mouth from your crotch.

To be completely fair, to get this line of dialogue you need to go up to him (presumably bringing your crotch along) and talk to him. A situation easily avoided by not going up to him and talking to him, like I do with all the royals.

    48 minutes ago, BrightBow said:

In any case, considering a playable character to be "minor" doesn't make sense to me.

Unless maybe it's something like a guest unit. Like Lea's grandmother, for example. Doesn't even get a name.

Grandmother is so cool though. She smuggles a mop into prison so she can tidy up her own cell. Then she gives said mop to Emma and Emma cleans house with it. And then she recruits Lea! Is there anything this woman cannot do?

Agree, but Setsunas problem is less Mozu... and more so the pineapple with a special bow.

    I often forget royals exist.

Shura exists for like five minutes in Birthright.

I'm fine with Alear's hair. It's the two pieces that cross like an x right over their forehead that drives me nuts. Like, it looks like those two strands are glued together. And they should be annoying as all hell to Alear themself for always brushing against the edge of their vision. Genuinely ruins the whole design for me.

Engage does the cross-hair thing a few times. Pandreo, for instance, has a really nice design but the hair is just...  Why is it like that? It's even worse than Alear's, because the strands crossing his face are even longer.

...I do feel at least female Alear pulls it off better. Her bangs are generally longer so it's not as pronounced as male Alear, who just has two strands crossing his entire face from the top.

  16. One of my favorite characters in the series, if not my favorite period, is Arran, from Archanea - specifically, his New Mystery of the Emblem inception. The concept of a Jeigan whose bad potential is justified not by age, but by a terminal illness, is quite interesting, and it makes him the one FE unit for whom death during the campaign can be argued as a fine ending to his character.

This is already pretty neat, but in New Mystery he gets a support chain where he discusses what it means to be a knight with Kris. He once served an unnamed lord somewhere in Archanea, and he believed absolute, blind loyalty to one's liege was the duty of a knight. Basically, he used to be a Camus. But one day, said lord ordered him to put down a rebellion. They were only peasants, starving after a bad harvest and making themselves heard to survive. Arran followed the order. Wracked with guilt, he wandered the world until he met Marth. Serving him, he discovered the true meaning of being a knight.

"A knight isn't a puppet that blindly follows orders. That is not loyalty. To fight for a cause I believe in, under a liege I believe in. That is what it means to be a knight."

Still one of my favorite lines in the series to this day. By the time you get his A support with Kris, he's likely already close to falling off. Him dying a hero's death shortly after this conversation is a truly compelling end to his character arc. Or, you can keep him until the end so he can get a glimpse of the peaceful world he helped created before he succumbs to his sickness. There is no cure and no way to save him, but however he dies, he dies happy and without regrets.

Beautifully tragic concept for a character that was greatly expanded upon in the remake. New Mystery supports are a bit hit or miss and there needed to be more Krisless supports, I won't deny it, but there are still some gems to be found there. As cool as the concept is, without the FE12 support he'd just be a guy that doesn't speak a word in the entire game.

I may have to play this hack, although I have never really gotten into any FE hacks.

Haha, well, it's just a little FE6 redux. I just added a few bossmen from other games to bolster the playable cast. Ended up adding one for each game.

... shoutout to my girl Orochi for being a neat lil mage. Omnyouji, I guess.

Just the Hoshidans in general for being a largely inferior squad of units, who are so much fun fixing.

I have a huge fondness for Setsuna. Her voice lines melt my heart and she's a fun project. I know everyone's always raving about archer Mozu, but I prefer Setsuna. She's not even that bad. She has boatloads of speed, so all she needs is a stronger bow to alleviate her lower strength.

For real. It's kind of bizarre how far people will go to defend their favorite character, even when they aren't particularly well written and support ideas that would actually be quite harmful in real life.

People need to accept that you can love a fictional character who is evil without trying to justify their actions. It's okay, villains are cool.

(For context, this is a boss in an old hack called Order of the Crimson Arm. Came out a good decade before Engage. The hair would be funny enough but the fact that his shirt is white too is just too perfect)

In a way, the odd phrasing ("I crave your pardon") makes it worse - if it was more generic, I would've been more likely to pass over that they're the same word for word.

Pretty sure in the old translation it was just a generic "Lord Julius... Please forgive me...", and Project Naga tried to combat this utterly awful piece of dialogue by wording it in a more exotic way. Which does not help the fact that it's shared by all three garbage bagmen in the thrilling conclusion.
