  1. Hmm well Awakening Lunatic was pretty darn annoying from what I remember, so I believe you there. Weak early units and far too open maps don't go well with trying to strategise against difficult enemy units.
  2. Yeah I'm playing FE12 myself for the first time at the moment, because everyone said it was awesome. I do like it, but I agree that there is a balance and map problem. This series seems to be really inconsistent in those departments. In terms of units there is basically no reason to use any unit outside of the ones you get early on. There are way too many pointless units you get that are underleveled and statwise have nothing on your early units. I agree on some of the maps. I've played up to Ch. 6x (that chapter was a ragefest) and sending Marth all over a large map just to reach a few villages or recruit a unit becomes boring. Also, some maps so far have been rather same-y, especially chapter 3 and 5 iirc. Second, sometimes it's almost impossible to play smart and keep fragile units safe as the maps just don't allow it and you can't go anywhere. I'm also kind of missing decent terrain bonuses, what I loved about some of the other FE games is using the terrain to your advantage, but in this game the bonuses are too small to really matter. FE6 had a few bad maps too, but overall I thought it was actually quite decent in that department. They were usually challenging rather than annoying, and there was always a strategic way to go about them, but with many 5 Move units large maps become kind of boring, which was the main problem imo. I always get bored with chapter 6 where you have to send Chad all over the place to open doors and chests, ugh. Anyway, cool LP so far. Seems like it would be a pretty annoying game to play on Lunatic. :/
  3. Nah, I guess they're not overpowered. But they aren't underrated either, they're just pretty pointless units, I think everyone can pretty much agree on that. Ross is fine with his early jointime, but he's not an amazing unit, and still takes a bit more effort to train than others. However, I'm not familiar with his status in the community, whether he's truly hated or super underrated or something. And yeah, I like Kyle and Forde too but they're just rather unnecessary, much like Treck and Noah in FE6 (those even moreso though). Their stats aren't better than Franz's or Seth's and they join quite a bit later, even though you have 5x but you'll probably want to level up Ephraim mainly. And I guess it's the same for FE9. Maybe not overpowered, but I don't really see who would be underrated. The game, like FE8, is too easy to really notice. Even if you need to give units bonus experience or tower training, it's there and so easy to use and abuse, options that FE6/7 don't have (or any pre-FE8 game minus Gaiden if I remember correctly). I guess in ranked runs it's different. If I had to pick an underrated unit from FE9, maybe Calill? She has good stats and growths, still has quite a few chapters to go when you get her, B ranks in every magic...I guess the fact that she has knives rather than staves is a downer though, but still, easy to use unit.
  4. Definitely Rutger. Gets a ridiculous 30% crit bonus as a SM, supports with two of the best characters in FE6 for amazing crit bonuses from their affinities. Gets HM bonuses too. Basically a broken unit because of all these factors.
  5. Nino is the worst. There is just no pointing in raising her anymore when she joins, as she comes in at five chapters from the end. Sure, it won't take her too many kills to become promotable, but when she's up to par with your other units, you'll have only a few chapters left. She's good when she gets to that point, but it's all she's going to add to the game. Why not just train Erk or Pent? At least Renault is a free staffbot with good durability, even though he's not good by any means. Pent's the best. He's just ready to be used right away. No effort involved, free support giving him some extra durability, and around long enough. No real question here. Erk, Lucius and Canas are all pretty similarly useful, Canas has Luna but has slightly lower stats than the other two, they also join at around the same part of the game. Serra and Priscilla are both good healers, and Athos has one role, namely to kill the final boss if your lords can't.
  6. Ike easily. I like his character, his stats are great, he promotes at the perfect time, gets a great skill after promoting and his class-exclusive weapon is awesome.
  7. Let's see... FE6 - Lot: He's by no means a brilliant unit, but I often see him paired with Wade as completely useless, and I don't agree. I think he's a pretty decent unit. I don't know who else I'd truly call underrated. Maybe Fir, although Rutger obsoletes her, that 30% crit bonus coupled with a Killing Edge is just murder, she gets HM bonuses so she joins with good stats and she's easy to train since she joins you in a chapter filled with pirates and pirate reinforcements that she can take down easily even at level 1. Maybe Ogier too, Dieck again obsoletes him due to supports, jointime and con, but at least he's got a sizeable speed advantage and more avoid. On his own he's a fine unit with great stats (by FE6 standards), and again very easy to train in chapter 9. I wouldn't say you'd have to really go out of your way and give him tons of favoritism to get him up to par. Maybe Barth? Dunno, he is basically only HP/Str/Def, but he's the perfect wall pretty much, can promote quickly as he joins at level 9 and Bors will barely be able to outlevel him because of the axe-infested first seven chapters. Wendy is obviously not even up for debate. I still remember reading sometimes that Wendy was the best General because her stats would be the best overall, and that's not even true because Bors equals her in everything (maybe Wendy wins in 1 point here and there at 20/20, which isn't a realistic comparison) and thrashes her in Defense, which is a what a General wants anyway. Those good old days when average 20/20 stats were the only thing people looked at. I don't really know about underrated units in FE7/FE8/FE9. I can't think of any underrated FE7 units. Maybe Harken? My god he has good bases and still pretty decent growths, even gets HHM bonuses. Maybe it's because of supports or his speed, although the latter is fine imo with 17 base on normal and higher (19 or something) on HHM. Like Pent, he's ready to go immediately, comes with nice weapon levels and a Brave Axe, but I guess he has more competition in Raven than Pent has in Erk. Still, I'd definitely say he's underrated. I personally love Heath as well and I don't think everyone agrees. He's a fantastic Wyvern Lord and a staple on my team, but again, supports and being obsoleted by Florina/Fiora coming earlier and being great Peg Knights make me understand his comparably lower ratings. FE8 has no underrated units. Everyone is overpowered compared to the enemies, so it doesn't matter who you use anyways. Same goes for FE9. Wouldn't know about FE10/11/12. I don't know which units people underrate in Awakening, not really familiar with that, and for multiple reasons it doesn't seem really relevant to me in that game because of the endless grinding opportunities thrown at you coupled with infinite reclassing. Pretty much everyone becomes a max-stat bot anyway, it's more about classes and skills in that game it seems to me.
  8. Hmm. Well I like Sain, and Erk and Serra together. Also Joshua and Jaffar.
  9. :O That is without massive amounts of statboosters or save state abuse? Because that is just sick. I mean, that speed!
  10. I guess Nino? She actually has great growth rates all around and good bases for a level 5 mage (not for the chapter she joins in of course), and that is what makes an Est, right? A character such as Sophia doesn't even have great growths, they're pretty good by FE6 standards but then there's that 30% speed growth with 4 base speed as she joins you over halfway through the game. No actual advantage over Raigh aside from resistance (lol, and his is still god) and maybe magic (lol, enemies barely have resistance in that game anyway), while Ray badly beats her in two very important stats. I often see her being called an Est but I don't see it really. Maybe she was supposed to be, but they kind of messed up then. There are probably some more applicable characters for the Est-archetype pre-FE6, but I've barely played those so I can't really pick a favourite! I can't really think of any Est-characters from FE6 onwards aside from Nino. Maybe L'Arachel? She's a Troubadour, but with really good growths, underleveled and joins pretty late. There might be one in Radiant Dawn, I have only just begun playing that so I wouldn't know. Awakening's Est joins you far too early to really be an Est I guess.
  11. Thanks Deviddo! Challenging, tons of units to use, crappy growths make me feel even happier than normal when I see a good level up...stuff like that! :)
  12. My brother had a NES, so I grew up playing Super Mario Bros., Mega Man 4, TMNT II: The Arcade Game, DuckTales 2 and a few other crappier NES titles from three years old onwards.
  13. Yes! But it needs to be a secret. And thank you! :)
  14. Voted Radiant Dawn, with FE4 as a solid second. Such epic soundtracks.
  15. I already ended up in the chat somehow but just wanted to say hi to everyone here. I'm new, I have a pokemon-inspired username, and I'm not 13. I'm Spoinkinator, looking forward to some interesting Fire Emblem stuff here and talking to you peeps.
