  1. thanks for the advice, I have a feeling using Nightmare on the rom somehow changes it so FEditor can't recognise it or something, I think I will probably just try to inset all animations at once before doing anything else to the rom, prepare it with all that if you will...now the real question is do I want to have armor knights and wyvern riders using non default weapons or not...

  3. So I'm working on my hack and I manage to insert axe cavalier animations, they work fine. they are in the game and working fine upon testing. After that I consider using different axe cavalier animations so I opt to test them and see how they look ingame, I then run into a problem with FEditor giving me this error message "Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: This ROM appears to have been hacked outside FEditor (wrong checksum) and the pointer array has been relocated... I then start again from a clean rom, doing each step then testing FEditor and it seems what messes this up is when I use nightmare to repoint the animation of the female cavalier to 0x8FFF800 which is at the start of the custom animation pointers for the nightmare module, I don't understand what's going wrong with FEditor as the animation is working fine in the game. did I forget to repoint something in FEditor or for FEditor so it wouldn't run into this problem?

I spent a while learning how to hack FE7 a little less than 2 years ago, and now I have found myself with a large amount of free time on my hands I'm getting back into it. now I did all the work on a loaned PC and all I have from the old work is the dropbox upload I did for the patch to let some friends playtest the 2 chapter prologue, sadly now I download it and it comes in a strange file extention of .lnk in addition to the normal file type of .ups does anyone think they can fix this for me? https://www.dropbox.com/home?preview=Moz's+hack+prologue+1%262.ups.lnk this is the dropbox download for it, any help would be greatly appreciated as it would save me putting in the time to add in all the unit sprite animations and re-making the 2 chapters I had made.

  7. aight, from now on newer work will both be posted in a new post and added to the original post, as for the colour selection I'll be fixing that when I start actively inserting mugs into my hack, atm working full time so I only sprite in the evening. I think when I'm finished with work and have more free time to focus on the hack I'll go over all my mugs and improve them since I've been learning as I go along. thanks for all the feedback guys!

I have come across a really strange bug, recently I have essentially been importing the trainee pupil class from FE8 into my hack, now the issue has come when I tried to get the battle animation working, it doesn't on the class I have been using while it works on other characters I have if I change their battle animation pointer. would this have anything to do with me using the Hung Leila class? if so then what classes are safe to overwrite, or even better is it possible to get more slots for classes in nightmare?

  14. ok, I'v pretty much finished the prologue chapter of my hack, complete with house and all :) now I occasionally run into a few issues. 1. during the starting cutscene sometimes if I mash start and try to skip it my character starts at a place they move to as part of the opening cutscene, instead of their intended starting position, I don't know if i can reproduce this consistently. 2.how do I change the change the chapter goals in text, since I have already changed it gameplay wise. 3.finally, I havn't found any resources to help with difficulty / gameplay balance, would seeking playtesters be a suitable means to assure the game is of acceptable difficulty? since personally as the person who made the chapter I have a very accurate view of how it goes, having tested it many times while testing things like unit placement etc. there's also the issue of character base stats / growths that I'm unsure if I have gone overboard with tl;dr for Q3, how do I tell if I have balanced the game correctly 4. how do I move onto the next chapter? 5. I tried to follow Blazer's ultimate tutorial on custom spell animations but the inserter wouldn't load and gave an error, his explanation of "you did something wrong" didn't help, I retried it like 6 times with no success, any tips? 6. can I somehow change the names of classes that appear for nightmare etc, since it just bugs me that I have a class named something it's not. here's my event code, if anyone wants to playtest for me just drop me a PM, thanks in advance!   15. another question, can you edit spell animations? for example I want to change flux to blue instead of dark purple, would that be possible? (it's not what I'm doing but one of my character's main backstory culminates in a personal spell, need to make it custom since ereshkigal and naglfar take way too long and don't fit the character's spell in the story's theme :P )
  16. so, I'v recently begun making hacks, it's going well so far due to all the infrastructure people have put in place to teach newbs like yours truly, anyhow this thread is to post any sprites or mugs I make and receive critique. well here goes: 1: Shaman with a turban http://imgur.com/VhfNeJg a shaman who will join us fairly early, he has the calm, content expression due to seeing into the depths of dark magic and as such he's not easily surprised anymore. he lost his left eye as a sacrifice for his personal dark magic spell (he has a personal weapon like rapier etc) self critique, I'd probably need to learn much more about shadows due to the turban not casting a shadow over his face. 2:fem shaman or troubadour that learns dark magic upon promotion. ^that shaman's apostle. http://imgur.com/6Zn2yBA ---- http://imgur.com/qUbO1XC updated version -> she will join us either early as a healer or later if she ends up a second shaman(since the guy's stats are growths are very unbalanced) a very simple splice, mainly ursula with a recolour and niime's hat thingy - extended. 3: female mercenary http://imgur.com/pMQnunA she will join early-midgame. a bit of a tomboy, she has like a wrapped scarf thing around her neck and a sleeveless blue undershirt. my most custom mug yet, I made most of the shoulderpad and spliced together stuff from 6 characters. 4:Older soldier http://imgur.com/ndGvPRa,396hCvZ#1 he will join earlygame, when the lord's lands were attacked and his forces decimated, he's found along with another surviving archer carrying out guerrilla warfare vs. the invading army, he's mainly a splice with a bit of age lines added to show that he's seen better days. he's pretty much a generic soldier given time in the spotlight. 5:Lone rampaging wyvern knight http://imgur.com/ndGvPRa,396hCvZ#0 he will join midgame, he's the eldest son of a family of wyvern knights who have been going for a long time, his family were killed by assassins for political reasons, he swore vengeance on the nation who ordered it. he's found surrounded, fighting in a blind fury in his lust for revenge on his family's killers. he's mainly gale with different armor and a nice cloth scarf to clean the blood of his lance with. 6: Seafaring swordsman from the east. http://imgur.com/slbFFaI he will join midgame, he's a swordsman that comes from a nomadic people's but unlike his tribe he feels most at home at sea, the enemy army take over the port where the ship he's on is anchored, they seize it and he joins the party to get back at them. was a saleh / lloyd splice with a little recolouring, nothing fancy. 7. Veteran archer, found along with older soldier, trying to fight back after surviving their army's massacre. http://imgur.com/nMQdnnY he's a splice of Dieck's face, Linus' hair and Puzon's body he joins earlygame, along with the soldier, I think having older characters allows for more intresting personalities, also lets them have children etc to recruit further on in the game. 8. Cocky, young adult mage prodigy, seeks out turban shaman guy due to his past accomplishments as a mage, before he lost the power to control anima. http://imgur.com/t7OrD64 I feel out of all my units this one's personality in conveyed most strongly through his expression. I feel maybe I went a bit too black / white grey with this dude and maybe I should give him more colours, im open to suggestions as always. splice of Jahn's head / chest and renault's small shoulerpadcloth thingy, along with edited brown collars over the shirt. 9. Poor wannabe armor knight bandit guy, once his village was saved a mighty armor knight of the realm, thats where his dream began... http://imgur.com/UlmNwjl and with his shoddy half broken armor is where it's gona end, the only armor knight I have planned for this game and thankfully he's not as boring as the rest, he's pretty quick and stuff but his def isn't great, which y'know makes sense since his armor is like falling apart .his face is like a mix of 5 faces, hair is lowen's, body armor is a big mix. 11. Hippie zealot nomad, he joins cus the nation that messed up MC's castle/people is against his hippie standards, http://imgur.com/d2B2fnA this guy was a splice of about 4-5 facial features, roland's body recoloured and mini head + icon thing. he's all about dat resistance, anti magic nomad on the scene. 12.   17. well I have searched around and I can't find animations for female myrmidons for fe7, I hear you can rip them from 6 or 8 but you need to be using the admin variant of FEditor. Ff not then mixing use of the variants can cause issues. for a hacking newbie like myself this is quite daunting, could someone direct me to a female myrmidon battle sprite animation or a way of obtaining it? thanks in advance

So, Longtime Lurker here, finally made an account to start participating in the community since I'v started making my hack. essentially what my problem is when I apply the text file I am using for my prologue to any fire emblem ROM along with making the starting character a female cavalier eliwood (these are what I'm replacing with the character who is supposed to start) it also adds an off the screen level 0 hector with an iron sword which you can reach by pressing A once or twice (I'm on VBA) so it translates to pressing R on an actual GBA. since I have tested this on a clean ROM it must have to do with the event coding I am using, I will post that here, it's unfinished but I hope someone can figure out the reason for the phantom hector! thanks in advance! for refrence I'm attacking the text file im putting into event assembler ps. if anyone finds something else horribly wrong with the eventing please do notify me, I very recently started learning.
