They should still be alive since laguz live for a long time, and laguz slavery is now illegal so they should probably be free. The herons themselves were slaughtered so anyone that had a heron slave probably killed them too Or it could have been that herons were so respected before the massacre that no one dared to enslave them. *cough**cough*Rafielwasboughtbeforethemassacre*cough**cough* You could either forget my second idea then or you could just say that the senators were jerks and didn't care about them. There probably wasn't anyone but Senators who had the money to pay for a heron, anyway. Of course, they didn't give two figs about them (excepting Hetzel for Rafiel), so the senators probably killed them as well. Rafiel fell deathly ill whe nhe was captured. That can probab;y be assumed for all Herons, because as a race, they're incredibly frail. So, anyone who tried to have a Heron slave probably just watched it die.

Well, going os the fact that she is a girl, it just one of of many moddy stages that they go through, as teenage girls suffer from acute bi-polar-ness.
