  1. Excluding kids here, because I don't really bother with them.

    Best:

Corrin/Azura is very cute and very well-written on all three routes.

Laslow/Peri has amazing character development and backstory, and is just stupidly adorable.

Xander/Charlotte: Not as good as the JPN version, but still very good.

Kaden/Hana: Two complete opposites play off each other in a way that feels very natural and charming.

Takumi/Oboro: Chemistry and development at its finest.

    Worst:

Hinoka/Saizo or Kaze: They both have the same awful premise--delivering letters and then getting married without ever really talking to each other.

Silas/Azura: Literally the epitome of a "talk three times then marry" support. Just awful.

Ryoma/Camilla: They have nothing to talk about, and that's what their supports are about. It's as boring as it sounds.

Kaden/Orochi: She gives him catnip for three supports and marries him in the fourth -_-

Jakob/Felicia: Lay off that poor woman already, geez. He's not as bad as he in JPN, but still way too rude and mean.

  2. Silas might be going on my list for being a judgmental asshole. I benched him anyways so I won't know until Nohr since he was sucking.

Jakob is now on the list permanently for being a douche bag, no only being nice to me isn't attractive. It makes you seem like you'll end up in an abusive relationship.

Lilith is cute in sprite form but I hate feeding her so much and that eating animation is so ugly.

I hate that I can't skip it. No, you stupid dragon, I don't want to watch you meticulously chew that slab of meat, I want to toss it at you and go on my way.

  3. So far, my least favourite is Garon, unquestionably.

I have almost always preferred the human villains over the dragon villains (my exception being Medeus, in that in New Mystery of the Emblem he got some backstory and wasn't just "Look at Me! I'm an evil dragon and I will destroy everything!") The reason is the human villains are usually more involved in the political conflicts in the games and also get more backstory. If you look at Ashnard in PoR, he is an outright bad guy, but at the same time you learn he was born far from being in line for the throne and instead became famous on the battlefield. You learn that he believes the strong should rule, rather than the nobility. He is a 100% bad guy, but he isn't a 1-dimensional 100% bad guy.

So it staggers me that, from what I have played so far, they were able to make a human villain a 1-dimensional 100% bad guy. Part of me hopes he might get some depth, but I know better. Somehow they were able to make a 100%: "Look at Me! I'm evil and will [conquer] everything" human villain that isn't possessed by either a magic book or an orb containing a giant monster.

    Funny you should mention possession...

Though that doesn't make him a better character. He's undoubtedly the one I hate the most in the game.

  4. I don't think that counts as platonic. They seem pretty clear in their romantic intentions, "I do have feelings for you... I want to be with you forever." There's nothing in there about friends, just that they need to take it at a pace that they're both comfortable with because they both have some intimacy issues and stuff, and that they'll take it slow because they don't actually know each other that well even if the feelings are there. You got me worried there for a second; it was one of my favourite pairings in the Japanese one!

Ah, my apologies; I must have misread that line.

  5. bf1.png

-It ruins the mood of the entire scene. Both Arete's death and Sumeragi's death were appropriately sad and heartwarming and Mikoto's was looking to be the same, but then she mentions her relationship with Arete and now the entire mood is ruined because you're now thinking about something other than you're mothers death.

-The delivery is awful. One moment she's talking about how she loves all her children and within two lines you're finding out that you married, fucked and had children with your cousin. It's a very jarring change of topic and mood.

-There's no foreshadowing. At least on Conquest, the magical throne was mention in Chapter 5 and you know they wouldn't bring it up unless it was important. This reveal comes out of nowhere and feels very forced and shoehorned in, as if they wanted a shocking swerve for the sake of it.

-It never gets brought up after the reveal. After the reveal, it never gets brought up. Not during the coronation and not during Kamui and Azura's conversation at the lake, making it a big-lipped alligator moment and again, a shocking swerve for the sake of it.

-It does nothing to serve the plot or move it forward. Say what you will about the crystal ball, slime!Garon and the Third Route as a whole, but they at the very least serve a purpose. Kamui and Azura being cousins contributes nothing to the plot at all, save for an 'interesting' bit of trivia about Mikoto and Arete. I've seen someone mention that it was so that Kamui has a blood claim to the throne, but that really doesn't matter because a) the only other person who has a birthright to the throne is Azura, and she willingly abdicates to rule if you don't marry her, b) you might've married her, so you have a claim to the throne by marriage and c) who's going to complain if Kamui takes the throne? No surviving civilians are ever shown and wouldn't they be more pissed that Kamui is the son/daughter of the dragon that destroyed the entire Kingdom than Kamui not being of royal descent? This is arguably the only moment in the entire game that is completely, 100% pointless.

-Even though Blood vs. Bonds was one of the main themes of the advertisement, they still made it that the Hoshido siblings aren't related to you by blood so that you can S-Rank them, so why would they make Kamui and Azura cousins if they're very blatantly the 'canon' pairing? They went through all those mental gymnastics to justify no incest for them, but making your canon pairing first cousins is a-okay apparently. Them supposedly being your brothers and sisters by birth only makes it worse, since they were perfectly willing to break the blood vs. bonds theme over their knee to justify you romancing them, but what do they lose by making Kamui and Azura not related?

-Treehouse had to change maybe five lines of dialogue tops, in one chapter of the game to remove the incest aspect of the relationship and considering that they censored Owain x Lucina, I see no reason why they wouldn't unless they've done something with the Hidden Truths DLC, and doing that potentially jeopardises Kamui's relationship with Mikoto.

I rant all day every day about why it was a dumb thing to do, but those are the main reasons.

    Building off point 5:

Fire Emblem typically has a mindset of of "you conquered it, you own it." Killing Anankos would be reason enough for Corrin to ascend. And considering that Anankos was stated to be a tyrant, I honestly think the people would be overjoyed to have him gone and not particularly care if their "real" heir takes the throne or not.

First-cousin marriage is legal in Japan--and even parts of America--so it doesn't really stop the "intended canoness" of the ship, but it's poorly handled and just very confusing as to why they included it at all because it doesn't add anything to the story. Even moreso is why Treehouse left it in when they nixed Owain/Lucina and Asugi/Midori, and those were side characters. Corrin and Azura are the main duo of Fates, you're far more likely to pair them up than the other two couples.

It doesn't stop me from shipping it, but I wish they'd either handled the cousins thing better or just not included it at all.

  6. Would it have been preferential if they just cut those S-supports? Yes.

I like the concept of platonic S-supports; the execution here, as you said, leaves something to be desired.

Are we still complaining about Subaki/Nyx? Because that's really the only 1st gen one I can think of, and yeah, I'll agree it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

As said above, I like the concept of S-supports (in as much as we have disagreed it seems only one of us is now directly shaming the others preferences); I'll agree that the execution is pretty lacking at points.

Zero/Azura is platonic, too. They both basically agree they're way too prickly to ever have a romance, and settle for friends with benefits.

  7. People should keep in mind that Hoshido CAN beat Nohr, and that's exactly what happens in Birthright. The single shred of credibility Azura and Kamui's plan has in Conquest is completely blown out the water by Birthright. If the forces of Hoshido could defeat Garon with Kamui's help, think about how much easier it would be if they had the Nohrian siblings and their loyalists fighting with them?

The contrivances that are required to keep the Nohr plot going are one thing but I'm also bothered by how BORING it makes the story. Kamui doesn't consider his options and suffers the same, lame cycle of "try to be merciful, Garon kills everyone anyway".

Well, consider how it happens. Hoshido wins, yes, but that's because Corrin, Ryoma and Takumi take a crack squad of soldiers and slip through Nohrian defenses to assassinate Garon. When they receive war reports from Yukimura, they hear about how the Hoshidan forces are being constantly pushed back. And on Revelation, despite neither side having Corrin, Hoshido is still the losing side--Ryoma and Takumi still go missing in battle, Yukimura still talks about Nohrian forces marching on the capital, etc. Hoshido just doesn't have the strength in numbers to repel Nohr, that's why Mikoto needed to put up the barrier in the first place.

So really, no, I don't think Hoshido could have beaten Nohr without Corrin.

  8. So I'm split between marrying Flora and Aqua in Conquest.

My boon is +SPD and my bane is -HP.

Marrying Aqua gives Kana and Shigure +7 SPD however with -3 Defense

But marrying Flora gives Kana balanced mods.

Is +7 SPD worth it over Flora's balanced mods? I'm planning to make Kana and myself Swordmasters haha.

It's always better to go for stacked mods--in this case, SPD--over balanced ones.

  9. I think the kids are non-canon in a similar vein to the bonus characters in the GBA games--nice extra units in your army, a glimpse at what could have been, but dead/not yet born canonically. I think the kids will be born someday, and they'll be the ones we see during the game, but they aren't born in the game. It's unlikely all the women in the army would fall pregnant at the same time (if only because the parents should be more responsible, especially Femui and Azura, who do it twice), the explanation for the age-up is dumb (why couldn't they just stay in MyCastle, again?), and they are never acknowledged by the plot at all (unlike Lucina and the others).

  10. But if it's already the "nothing bad happens" route why not just go "fuck it" and go all the way? The deaths in rev just felt really pointless and shoehorned in for the sake of dying. Birthright and Conquest I at least expected both niichans to not make it out alive anyway. But I mean, Izana dying to get Takumi to join your party can be (credit to Sunwoo) circumvented by just, idk, Takumi wanting to keep an eye on this suspicious asshole going around with his baby sister, and Scarlet's death is just extra lobster pain that he didn't really need--but most of all it's just so unfair to them, as characters.

Like a character death isn't necessarily bad, and when executed really well can be good for the dead character in question as a character as well. This is just, not one of the cases. And if Revelations, on a more meta level, is already the fuck everything route anyway, might as well just go all the way and don't do it halfheartedly.

Scarlet's death does serve a purpose--it helps Corrin figure out who the traitor in their midst is. So there's that at least.

Izana's, on the other hand, was utterly pointless.

  11. I've been thinking about it and I've been researching things in the supports that might make this easier. I haven't read all of the localized supports or compared them to their japanese versions, so I might miss something. Let's look at the facts (and personal theories):

Sakura had just been born when Corrin was kidnapped. (Corrin-Sakura Support)

Hinoka started training to save Corrin. (Story and several of her supports). She started when she was Seven Years Old (Hinoka-Camilla Support) That must mean that Hinoka is either 6 or 7 years older than Sakura, depending on how long she was moping about Corrin's kidnapping.

Azura's support with Hayato shows that she used to live all over the world. With the Concubine War going on in Nohr and Azura being distrusted by pretty much everyone outside of the Royal Family (except Takumi) I doubt that she'd have many opportunities to travel unless A) It was before Arete married Garon; or B) Shura decided to take her sightseeing before handing her over to Mikoto (Now I wish those two could support). Since she has pretty clear memories of not only her travels, but Valla as well, I think that she'd be close in age to Hinoka. This would also justify why none of the Nohr siblings recognize her as well: she hadn't been living in Nohr for long before Corrin's kidnapping.

Corrin is a weird case. We can't be sure if the reason for their memory loss is simply because they were young when they were kidnapped or if they sealed away their memories with magic. Sumeragi however did teach Corrin how to wield a sword, so they couldn't have been too young when the kidnapping happened.

Elise was born after Azura was kidnapped (Azura-Elise Support), so some time must have passed between Sakura's birth and then. Mikoto must have tried to negotiate several times before she grew desperate enough to kidnap someone. Azura was also shown to trust Mikoto enough to share her problems with her, which is something Azura wouldn't do. We can't be sure if it's because Azura knows Mikoto is her aunt or if they just spent long enough together to be close to each other.

Takumi seems to be at the typical rebellious teenager age, with him being a little aggressive, being easily flustered and having a constant need to prove himself. Leo didn't give me that impression, so I believe that Leo is older, but not by much.

Camilla seems to be a little older than Hinoka. I also believe that there's an age gap between her and Leo because of the Concubine Wars, so I think that there's a gap there for their other siblings that were killed before the game began.

I think Ryoma is around Camilla's age, with Xander being at most a year older than them. I have no evidence for this, though.

These are the ages I believe they are:

    Xander-25

    Ryoma and Camilla-24

    Hinoka-22

    Azura-21

Corrin (Adult Male build)-20 or 21

    Corrin (Teenager build)-19

    Corrin (Loli Build) and Leo-18

    Takumi-17

    Sakura-15

    Elise-Technically an adult13

Oh, nice reasoning. I forgot about Hinoka being 7 when she started training or Azura travelling when she was younger.

  12. I disagree, Corrin is responsible as they didn't take charge immediately after the battle or establish his/her authority. Their incompetence and weakness, as they do nothing over their authority being ignored, allowed Hans to do so much in such a short time span. Seriously, Corrin didn't notice any of that at all until after the fact? Seriously?

If I was Corrin I would have established order under my authority ASAP and consolidated the prisoners into a camp I had direct control of, as they are useful alive and unharmed, and begun fostering good will with the defeated populus to win their hearts.

Instead Nohr Corrin pretty much just does nothing. Hoshido Corrin wouldn't have let this happen.

When you beat the chapter, we see Nohr!Corrin and Azura by Takumi, who's lamenting that he can't beat them. That implies they just defeated him and the battle has just ended. In that case, then Hans went off and started rampaging through Cheve near the end of the fight or while Nohr!Corrin was dealing with Takumi. So Nohr!Corrin didn't have time to establish his authority or a prison camp or anything like that.

Nohr!Corrin's got his faults, but what happened at Cheve wasn't on him.

  13. Is the localization that bad ?

I suppose that depends on how invested you were in certain things. Personally, I think it's fairly solid. There are things I wish they hadn't removed or had added in, of course, but for the most part I like most of their work.

  14. Why couldn't it be Yukimura who died on the third route instead of Scarlet? I'm pretty sure he doesn't even join on that route for no particular reason, so why not have him take her place as the sacrificial lamb?

Also, I weep for my non-existent blonde and wyvern-riding Shiro T_T

I would gladly have traded Glasses Guy for Scarlet.

I'll weep for that Shiro with you, along with my non-existent blue-haired Dwyer with ice powers.

  15. I need to read the full support, but NilesxCamilla has been altered. Zero confesses just like in the Japanese, but Camilla doesn't say the admittedly cheesy "Did you really stop being a thief? Because you stole my heart." Also whereas Camilla openly admits to liking Niles' dirty whispering, in which he does so at the end of the S, that too was changed.

    '''Niles''':

Come over here. I'll whisper more of these naughty, little words in your ear.

    '''Camilla''':

    Niles!

    '''Niles''':

    Was that too much?

That is so disappointing. I loved their original S-support, though I admit I like their localized A-support a lot more. Camilla was pretty matter-of-fact about her past in the JPN version, but in the localization she's still hurt by it, enough to get angry and start yelling.

Also, I got through Conquest Chapter 15 and I'm mixed. On the one hand, they kept that awful "maybe I should have picked Hoshido" line. On the other, they had Corrin immediately dismiss it afterwards with "No, I could never have betrayed my Nohrian siblings like that, I love them too much"--the JPN version just had him sort of agreeing with himself.

Not what I wanted, but I'll take it.

  16. My guesses:

    Xander: 28

    Ryoma: 27

    Camilla: 25

    Hinoka: 23

    Azura: 20

    Corrin: 20

    Leo: 19

    Takumi: 19

    Sakura: 18

    Elise: 16

    Reasoning:

    - Xander looks older than Ryoma to me, but his birthday is in a month after his, so there's about a year between them.

    - Elise is "technically an adult", which in the medieval ages would probably be 14, but 16 is the lowest I'm comfortable with. We also know that she's the youngest, since she hadn't been born when Corrin was kidnapped, but Sakura and Takumi were.

    - Azura and Corrin were likely born within a year of each other, given the fast-paced timeline. A minor detail is that she was born before him, as

Anankos didn't hook up with Mikoto until he'd killed Azura's father, meaning Arete had to have either given birth to or been pregnant with Azura beforehand.

My original ages had everyone two years younger, but when Elise was pronounced an "adult", I had to bump them all up.

  17. Unless they make up for this in their other supports, this is the second time I'll call BS on the localization.

I could see a couple people thinking "Wouldn't it be unique if the two serious assassin types with a scarred childhood didn't say anything to each other at first?", and I don't really like it.

Their other two supports (3 if you go for S) are exactly the same as in Japan.

  18. People are on red-alert after Awakening (I've seen some estimates say that, on average, every 3rd line in it was almost completely re-written).

People are going on about "death of a thousand cuts", but there really seems to be only about a dozen (and half of them are pinpricks). Considering how quickly we've turned all this stuff up, I doubt there's much left to find.

Do I prefer the Japanese version of this support? Yes.

Will I go stark raving mad? No.

This. It's upsetting what they've removed, especially this support, but it doesn't make the rest of the good changes they've made suddenly awful all of a sudden. And sometime I feel like the rest of the changes are people being overly sensitive. PoR and RD didn't have Dual Audio, but nobody claims that makes them terrible; we just got spoiled after Awakening released with it.

  19. Hmm, it seems like Saizo and Beurka’s C-support is entirely gone.

    Link : http://agoddamn.tumblr.com/post/139754189450/saizou-and-belkas-c-support-seems-to-be-entirely

Here is the support, if you don't want to use link. :

    Saizo : ....

    Beurka : ....

    Saizo : .....

    Beurka : ....

    Yes, that really is it.

I really hope someone at Treehouse screwed up and forgot to replace placeholder text with the actual conversation. Sure, it suggest ineptitude, but it's better than believing they would willing do this.
