  1. It was my understanding that in fates only spells and staves had uses?
  2. As thedude said, HANS will work on any firmware but requires homebrew access. Bear in mind, however, that HANS can only patch what is contained on a physical cart and does not work with digital copies or extra paths that you have downloaded.
  3. The guide you linked is for New 3DS, not Old 3DS. Its not advisable for users to follow guides not made for their respective systems as not all the steps and required files are 1 to 1.
  4. no-one was making a comment regarding the quality of their camera. You're putting far too much weight on this. I don't believe anyone who's gone to the trouble to find this thread after seeing images like that actually believes the US release looks objectively any better or worse than the japanese version. I'd like to think most of us know how camera's work. You can tell at a glance that the conditions present for when the images were taken were not the same and that they may have been taken by separate individuals or with different cameras. The only thing people, including the individual or individuals who originally took those photos, actually care about in those images is the dialogue. This is turning into a bit too much of a diatribe for this thread. I vote that we shelf this conversation.
  5. It's just the accessories that are problematic. They cause people who don't have that patch to crash. Specifically, if their game tries to call an item up and it leads to an invalid item reference ID their game will crash.
  6. If you're on 9.2 then you should go ahead and install a cfw, delink your nands, and update emunand to 10.6. here's a solid video tutorial for doing this on a version 9.2 OLD 3DS
  7. I've provided a small handful of examples to back up my previous claim. I don't believe context is important when they are displayed side by side with the original Japanese, nor do I find it relevant given the contents. If proof of legitimacy is required I'd remind you that this site hosts not only logs of the supports from the localization for also translated logs from the Japanese release. Readers fluent in Japanese on this board I'm sure would also vouch for their legitimacy. Regardless, that isn't a discussion that needs to take place. I only meant to highlight one of the many reasons people are supporting this project.
  8. For most of it I would agree that its not too bad, but there are these moments randomly interspersed of awful changes and rewrites. You can find most of the worst changes as image macros that have been getting spread around. Its certainly enough to justify a project like this.
  9. Its the swimsuit accessories that specifically can cause people visiting your my castle or playing you online to crash. The reason for this is that when they encounter a character in one of the swimsuits their game will try to page an item reference id that doesn't exist in their copy of the game, which in turn causes their system to crash. There's not really a way to fix this so its best just not to assign them to your my castle or avoid online altogether if you decide to use the swimsuits. A fair work around is to simply make sure that all the swimsuits are removed from your characters (all of them, not just your defenders) when you update your my castle or play a match against someone online. Doing that much should be safe.
  10. I agree that I'd prefer only some of the class names be delocalized (Sky Knight, I'm looking at you. You spit in the face of tradition), but I'm sure you can pick and choose in this case. It'll just require a bit more work on your part.
  11. There's not currently a tutorial, but one is being written. also, in order to patch dlc (including downloaded paths or even a digital copy) you'd need to downgrade to 9.2 and install a CFW. if you're just trying to patch what's on your cart if you have one then you can just use HANS from the homebrew menu to temporarily patch the game whenever you play.
  12. In order to do that you'd need to have a CFW installed and then install the patch directly to the rom on the cart. I'm no expert on this as its not my patch and I've never done it before, but I'm pretty sure that's how its going to work. We'll have to wait for one of the team members to write up a guide. edit: if Iuyairis says it can't be done then nevermind. However, if you have a homebrew menu entry point you can use on your other 3DS like OoTHax you can just use HANS on that system as well.
  13. Well, patching the game with just homebrew makes use of HANS. HANS only patches the game temporarily and can't patch anything downloaded (A CFW however can patch everything directly including DLC and doesn't need HANS). That is, it only works on what's on a physical cart. You might be able to play that much on your N3DS, but there might be some weirdness with accessories due to the way the patch swaps the ids around. Nothing too serious though I'd imagine. Its actually a bit early to be able to tell the full extent of the consequences of using this patch to be honest. There's been a bit of discussion in this thread recently about that. As I alluded to earlier, if you want to downgrade your N3DS so you can install a CFW on that, you'll need to get it hardmodded. You can contact Hundshamer on GBAtemp for that. MrMario2011, who I linked earlier, also has separate tutorials for N3DS you can follow for downgrading/installing a CFW if you go through with the hardmodding.
  14. Since your O3DS is at 10.2 you're in luck. Unfortunately its not he best luck. In order to patch the dlc (this includes the extra paths as the are dlc for all intents and purposes) you need to downgrade to 9.2 and install a custom firmware. Since your N3DS is at 10.6 it unfortunately can't do this without being hardmodded. Here's a couple of video tutorials to get your started if you decide to go that route. note that these tutorials are meant for O3DS, not N3DS: Also, be sure to make good use the links he provides in the description. This is a risky process and can ruin your system if you don't use caution.
  15. So I should be able to make those backups with the cfw I need if I do it before I unlink the nands. That way I can restore them after the wipe.
  16. Its my understanding that setting up the CFW requires formatting the sd card at one point. If I just copy over what I have on my computer after that it'll work as normal? Just to be clear, I'm talking about saves from digital copies.
  17. Yeah, this is digital. I can't think of a reason why I'd need to back up saves that are kept on a cart for this tbh.
  18. Yeah, this is the plan exactly. My main concern is that I can't figure out how or when to backup Fire Emblem Fates and by extension Triforce Heroes. The issue with these two games is they're using the +9.6 encryption and SVDT can't back up their save data. It just soft locks with a red lower screen the moment those games in particular are selected. Just for reference, I've have no problem backing up all my other games sans streetpass plaza for other reasons altogether. This problem is particularly distressing considering the situation. My understanding is that I'd need a CFW in order to get better save managers that can bypass this encryption, but the videos I've seen on installing CFWs seem to indicate that the sd card will need to be reformatted during the process which makes that kind of hard. I'm in need of some good advice on how to solve this dilemma.
  19. I thought to try svdt as well, but it doesn't seem to work with Fates. It gives me the same problem as when I try to use it with Triforce Heroes. It just seems to softlock as soon as the game is selected with the lower screen going red.
  20. That doesn't work for me. I plan to send my 3DS off to get hard modded at the end of the week, so I need to prepare my backups ahead of time.
  21. I'd appreciate more detailed directions. What exactly is the right way?
  22. I'm talking digital, yes. So just copy everything to my computer ahead of time and transfer it back when its all done? Alright. I was really only worried that this might cause an issue with the way the 3ds encrypts digital files, but I suppose that as long as my Nintendo ID is still linked to the system that shouldn't be a problem.
  23. I was looking into installing reiNAND and there was an awful lot reformatting involved. Scrubby question, I know, but can someone with experience let me know whether it will recognize my games and save data if i recopy it back onto the sd card after I've finished downgrading, installing the cfw, and updating the emunand?
  24. I had a pretty strong feeling about that possibility. Its not the first time I've heard of things like that being left in the code. The dub work usually gets done before decisions like that are made from my experience.
  25. The item reference information was stripped out, but some of the data like that was left in.
