Now where's the quiz for boyfriends?

    Here it is.

The first time I got a three way tie between Lysithea, Ignatz, and Petra (but Lysithea was the one shown). The second time I got Petra (11 points), with Ignatz (10 points) in second and Lysithea (9 points) tied for third.

The girlfriend quiz got me Marianne with Edelgard in second. I S-supported Marianne in my first playthrough so I suppose its accurate, and it might mean I'll have to S-support Edelgard when I play Crimson Flower.

One thing I wonder regarding XBC2 is (bigass spoilers for both games)

      Reveal hidden contents

Rex and co. bringing the Titans into a "new world" at the end. Is that the same world that was created at the end XBC1, to replace the Bionis and Mechonis? That's the impression I got, anyways, and I wonder if the DE will add a new cutscene to show it.

    Spoiler

If anything I think the other way around is more likely, with Shulk/Alvis bringing everyone to the restored Earth rather than creating a new one. The Architect's time reconstructing the world would be wasted if everyone just left for another universe, which is implausible anyway since the Conduit left by the time Rex and co. "entered" the new world.

  3. Aside from the obvious I don't think the plot needs to be changed, but here's a wishlist of gameplay changes I would like to see (most of which were inspired by the later Xenoblade games):

    • An Event Theater to rewatch cutscenes
    • Quest Markers to show you where quest objectives are (so you don't have to look up where to find certain enemies/places)
    • Make level penalties less crippling
    • Include Fashion Gear from XCX (so you can wear one armor while benefiting from the stats of another), because I want to keep everyone in their canon outfits
    • Voiced Heart-to-Hearts (since they are apparently adding new dialogue)
    • Bonus experience
    • General balance changes/AI fixes
  4. If Nintendo let Sakurai pick the characters this time then I can see him wanting to add first parties who were too late for the base game (Rex, a Three Houses character, a Gen VIII Pokémon, Astral Chain protagonist, etc.). If Nintendo picked the characters again then we'll just get more third parties.

Sakurai's statement on worlds is apparently more accurately translated as "by adding just one character we can expand the world of Smash" so I don't think it means anything. Unless he means we're only getting one more character.

  5. I already have Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, but this looks good enough for me to get it again. And it looks like a good mix of the artstyles of XC1 and XC2 too; I particularly like the lighting on Metal Face here.

    I'm mainly interested in seeing

    Spoiler

how things will be adjusted to account for XC2's existence (interested enough to buy the game again it seems, even if such changes would only be apparent during the end of the game). Hopefully they'll confirm if Alvis is you-know-who at least. I also kind of want Alvis to become playable but I don't think that will happen.

Does Saito retweeting Directs usually mean something as well? Did he retweet the E3 2018 Direct where they revealed Torna ~ The Golden Country?

I don't remember hearing about it and I don't feel like digging through a year of Saito's twitter history to find out, so I don't think he did (though Saga did of course). Saito isn't a Nintendo employee, so I don't know if that makes a Xenoblade announcement more or less likely.

    • New Weegee's Mansion 3 trailer
    • New Pokémon
    • Release date for Banjo & Kazooie in Ultimate
    • Three Houses DLC? (probably not the story DLC)
    • Xenoblade something (since Saito retweeted the Direct announcement too, which would suggest something related to 2), probably a Switch port of XC1 or XCX if anything
    • Miscellaneous new stuff/ports/DLC and overviews of stuff we know about

But the only constant is that, whatever they announce, there will still be no Pikmin 4.

  7. I only played the GD route so far, but from what I know it seems that Flayn was the most accessible child of the goddess and they wanted her blood for their Crest experiments, not for any more specific reason.

It's also said that Garreg Mach is magically protected so that the javelins of light can't hit there. Once they tried and the javelin was redirected to Ailell instead, which is why Ailell is so fiery in the present. As Rhea says, "The Holy Tomb is not only the location of the progenitor god's eternal slumber, but also a sacred vessel for a power that repels evil. Supposedly, the progenitor god built the Holy Tomb herself to protect her children from the evil light."

  8. If we consider where the Crests came from (end of Golden Deer spoilers)

    Spoiler

Nemesis acquired the Crest of Flames from Sothis's blood, and the 10 Elites and Maurice gained their Crests from the blood of Sothis's children (after Nemesis killed them, presumably). I don't know at this point if the Four Saints are also children of the goddess (even if they are likely all alive in the present), but the Silver Snow route probably explains that. We can infer that the five "lost" crests came from Sothis's other children, maybe some that survived Nemesis's attack. Perhaps they gave their blood to humans willingly or they were killed for it? Rhea/Seiros calls herself the "last child of the progenitor god", though I don't know if that means if she was the last to be born or the last alive. The five missing Crests are acknowledged by the Church on its mural, unlike the Crest of Flames, so the associated lineages either died out or just never came up in the plot. The Crest of Timotheos is the only missing crest to not be faded out on the mural, if that means anything.

As Jingle Jangle mentioned, the two Crest Stones on Nemesis's Dark Creator Sword have the Crests of Noa and Timotheos on them. The Dark Creator Sword was presumably created by those who slither in the dark, so the stones could be artificial or they could just be random stones they discovered.

As another question, how many non-artificial Crest Stones are there? They're the hearts of Sothis and her children, so there shouldn't be too many of them.

  9. I finished the Verdant Wind route, thus ending my first playthrough of Three Houses. Some spoiler thoughts...

    Spoiler

I assume that Crimson Flower and Azure Moon focus more on the personal matters of Edelgard and Dimitri, and since Claude's motives are comparatively straightforward, Verdant Wind instead focuses on the backstory of the world. We got all the revelations about Crests, Heroes' Relics, the 10 Elites and Nemesis, those who slither in the dark, why Byleth has the Crest of Flames, and there was fun stuff all around. Nemesis even came back from the grave to act as the final boss. And amazingly, Rhea doesn't do anything evil! She might still be a villain in the other routes, so we'll see about that. We did learn that she is indeed Seiros though, but we didn't learn anything about Byleth's mother or her presumed relationship with Rhea. Apparently Nemesis is only the final boss of the Verdant Wind route, so I'll see what the other paths have in store later.

    The paired endings I got were Lorenz/Lysithea, Ignatz/Raphael, Claude/Leonie, and Byleth/Marianne.

I plan on going for the Blue Lions next, but for now I'm taking a break from Three Houses so I can resume playing through the Ace Attorney series. I'm currently on everyone's favorite case, Turnabout Big Top, though personally I never had a problem with it despite it apparently being one of the worst cases in the series.

The only A-supports Byleth is missing now is his A-supports with Hilda and Lysithea. I have them ready, but the game tells me I need to wait a while longer, which is strange, because I got everyone else's A-support just fine. The only other characters this happened with post-time skip were Edelgard and Dimitri.
I sincerely hope that I don't need to do a Paralogue to unlock them (as they usually require characters from other factions), because the only characters I have recruited are the ones the game gave to me and Alois (it felt wrong not to recruit him).

Lysithea's A support is tied to the plot, if I recall it unlocks after Chapter 16.

  11. I'm in the middle of chapter 12 now, so now it's time to get my thoughts in order before the time skip. I haven't been able to recruit any other students, but there's always next playthrough. In year 1181, war was beginning...

    Spoiler

So with Chapter 9, the good news is that Jeralt isn't evil, but the bad news is that he's dead. Byleth gets points for remembering to use Divine Pulse afterwards. Monica turned out to be Kronya, as I expected, but it seems to be a kill-and-replace situation rather than Monica being brainwashed like I thought. It turns out Jeralt took Byleth from the Church to protect them from Rhea's plotting, and Byleth's mother is actually Rhea's... something, darn Alois's inconvenient interruption.

In Chapter 10, we dunk on Kronya to avenge Jeralt before Solon kills her and traps Byleth in the Fly of Despair. Then Byleth fuses with Sothis, goes Super Saiyan, and dunks on Solon. It's a bit odd that 2/3 of the villain group is dead less than halfway through the game, but maybe they're just pretending to be dead. Thales is still unaccounted for, but now Rhea wants Byleth to do... something, and Byleth gets a new class for his trouble.

Chapter 11 has us finally fight the Flame Emperor (and some other guy), who has the Crest of Flames for some reason. Maybe those who slither have something to do with that? The Flame Emperor turns out to not be Claude, but Edelgard! I suppose my last post was funny to those who knew that already, since that means there actually is a path where you side with the Flame Emperor. Wait, does that mean Hubert is the Death Knight, or did she somehow brainwash Jeritza into working for her? Anyway, Edelgard wastes no time in taking over the Empire and waging war on the Church. She's out for blood, clearly, and Dimitri is after her head for some reason. It seems Claude is the only reasonable lord around here... I was expecting five years of relative peace before the war broke out. Also it seems Byleth got luckier than Robin and Julius in that he's the vessel for a good god, not an omnicidal one (well, so far at least).

I also made sure to finish every available paralogue before the time skip. I recommend you do Lorenz's, it's not too hard and Thyrsus is very useful. I don't have much to say on the paralogues plotwise, aside from Seteth and Flayn's...

    Spoiler

While I did notice Rhea's hesitation when she referred to Flayn as Seteth's sister, I took that to mean they weren't related and Seteth adopted her for her protection. The truth is that Flayn is Seteth's daughter, though the jury is still out on if they're dragons or the Saints Cichol and Cethleann.

Anyway, while you aren't there yet, i will drop the Crimson Flower route requirements (no spoilers). You don't have to look at them if you don't want but i recommend that you do so that you'll be able to make a save before the route split (saves you time by making it so you don't have to replay the first half of Black Eagles twice).

It's not like I'll be getting to the Black Eagles anytime soon, but do you get a choice at the route split or are you forced into one route or the other depending on if you fulfilled the requirements?

  13. I'm only on Chapter 9 of Three Houses, but I suppose now is a good a time as any to ramble about it. I'll talk about spoilers up to the beginning of Chapter 9 (of the Golden Deer, if that makes a difference), so be aware of that. If any of my inane conspiracy theories about the plot turn out to be right, I would prefer if you didn't let me know until I finish the game. Anyway...

    Spoiler

I don't remember having too much difficulty outside of fighting Edelgard and Dimitri during the Battle of the Eagle and Lion, and Raphael and Ignatz's paralogue (mostly because one of the wolves went after the group that wasn't equipped to deal with it). I don't like Demonic Beasts too much. Fighting one at a time is fine, but Sothis's paralogue making you fight six Demonic Beasts at once? And four of them are flying so they can go after your weaker units? I skipped it for now but I don't know when I'll be ready for it. I restarted Lorenz's paralogue once, but it wasn't too bad the second time so I think I got unlucky the first time.

As for characters, I still haven't recruited anyone from the other houses, though I've been waited until the end of Part I to try. I got Cyril in Chapter 7, and during Chapter 9 I got Manuela, Hanneman, Catherine, and Shamir all at once. I like how all the characters are written, and there's so much worldbuilding and politics that I'm having trouble keeping track of it all.

But man, Chapter 8 really threw in a bunch of mystery boxes, didn't it? A village is infested with zombies and our friend Tomas turns out to be evil! Before release I joked to myself that Tomas was the true mastermind of the story (you know, because it's funny for an unassuming old guy to be the true villain), but it turns out that he actually is an evil mastermind, though presumably not the mastermind. I didn't suspect anything about him until Sothis said she found him suspicious, but at this point I have trouble trusting any plot important character. Is Rhea Seiros after she found the fountain of youth and started impersonating her descendants? Seiros's remains weren't in her coffin, so either she came back from the dead or she never died to begin with. Will the final boss be Seiros transformed into a giant dragon (hopefully not a Demonic Beast)? Is Jeritza really the Death Knight, or is it a red herring? They seem to have the same voice actor, thank you Patrick Seitz. Is Jeralt Thales? I was hoping that IS wouldn't do the "your dad is an evil cultist" thing again after Awakening, but I think Jeralt seems too nice to secretly be the main villain, what with giving Byleth their mother's ring and all (though the name of Byleth's mother on her gravestone is worn away, curse you plot convenience!). Most of the cast finds it hard to believe that Tomas is an evil mastermind, and Kronya is probably just Monica, but her demeanor changed since her kidnapping so something's probably up with that.

Speaking of villains, I love mysterious masked villains so I like the Flame Emperor so far. He seems noble relative to Solon and friends, if his offer to join forces with Byleth was genuine, so maybe he has a legitimate motivation for trying to conquer Fódlan. After getting Edelgard in Heroes I figured the Flame Emperor is her disgraced father, or Edelgard's father is the guy he was talking to in one cutscene (since he also has purple eyes). My latest conspiracy theory is that he's Claude, since Claude is conveniently absent whenever the Flame Emperor shows up and, again, I have trouble trusting any plot important character. But that doesn't make as much sense as the other theories, as I think he'll be unmasked before the timeskip and Claude is still Claude and apparently not recognized as a masked criminal, so I don't expect it to be right. In any case, the Flame Emperor is definitely a Char and I'm mildly disappointed that there isn't a route where you side with him.

Oh yeah, Sothis is also the name of the goddess. I wonder what that means? Maybe she and our Sothis are sisters, and their parents were uncreative with names? Flayn is probably a dragon too, but maybe she's their cousin on account of having a different name. Or maybe Flayn is Saint Cethlenn herself?

But back to business, on the first day of the Ethereal Moon Byleth got a C support with Alois. Firstly I didn't know you could have support conversations with characters you haven't recruited, so that was a surprise. It would explain why Rhea is supportable. Alois shared some rather strange facts about Jeralt, so maybe Jeralt is really Seiros's husband who gained immortality somehow. But more importantly, it's time for the dance! I can get a dancer now but I don't know who it will be yet, though I think I'll take Marianne to the ball if the choice offered by the Gatekeeper means anything.

  14. Soooo I'm sixteen and a half hours into Three Houses and I'm only on chapter six. Just how many chapters does this game have? (You don't have to answer that.)

I'm not too far in yet, but none of the Golden Deer have been lagging behind thus far. I haven't recruited anyone else yet, though I think someone might be available by now. Sans Byleth and the mage girls, I try have everyone specialize in two weapon types. If you're curious, I put my underdeveloped observations and plans in the spoiler tag below.

    Spoiler
    • Claude: Bows and Swords, targeting Lord.
    • Lorenz: Lances and Reason, presumably a Mage? Everyone's favorite student, his strength and magic being equal is useful for those pesky units with specialized defenses.
    • Hilda: Axes and Lances, targeting Brigand. Despite her self-proclaimed laziness and noodle arms, she somehow has the highest strength and defense of my entire group.
    • Raphael: Gauntlets and Axes, targeting Armored Knight (or maybe Brawler). He may not have the highest strength or defense despite all his eating and training, but he's a close second in both those categories.
    • Lysithea: Reason, with some Faith for extra healing, targeting Mage. The magical nuke, and the only character aside from Byleth to have her crest activate on a regular basis. Her resistance is lower than what I would expect though.
    • Ignatz: Bows and Swords, but I'll try to give him something else to distinguish him from Claude, targeting Archer.
    • Marianne: Faith, targeting Priest. The designated White Mage and Best Girl, she also has the highest resistance.
    • Leonie: Lances and Bows, targeting Cavalier. The fastest member of my team.

If I'm lucky I might finish the game in a month or so...

  15. Due to being busy for the past few days, I haven't been able to get Three Houses until today. Since the Black Eagles and Blue Lions are already accounted for in this topic, I went with the Golden Deer for my first playthrough. I'm two hours in but I've barely done anything because I'm too busy running around and talking to everyone...

Also, I have never heard the name Arusu before.

Apparently it comes from a Dragon Quest III Drama CD released in 1993. He had Marth's Japanese voice actor back then, not OoT Link's like he does now.

Random Down+B spell selection sounds ridiculous.

I think the randomness helps balance out how outrageous some of the moves are. It would be pretty ridiculous if he could use even half of his spells whenever he wanted.

I just started over and i'm 100% sure it wasn't on there. But I started over using a different user, if that means anything.

You can only pick between Easy and Normal when starting a new game, but you can switch to Bringer of Chaos or Custom in-game while playing your file.

  18. So with Three Houses coming out soon, I suppose I'll update what I've been doing lately.

I finished Mario Odyssey a few weeks ago. Jump-rope is much easier (or maybe I got lucky) if you throw Cappy for more air time, and I got 108 jumps immediately after I started doing so. The Darker Side is easier in comparison, though the atmosphere is more fitting if you save it for last. More games should have a cast of NPCs congratulate you after doing something challenging.

I've also been Korok seed hunting in Breath of the Wild (using an interactive map of course). After spending ten minutes trying and failing at boulder golf to get one annoying seed, I decided to fight a nearby Silver Lynel to vent my annoyance. I won, somehow, but there was a Blood Moon right after so it immediately respawned. I ended up completing the boulder golf later.

After a year I've resumed playing the original Xenoblade Chronicles. I'm stuck on Valak Mountain's boss, and since my party is under-leveled I went sidequesting instead (level 44 vs. the boss's level 48). It makes me better appreciate how XC2 tells you where the sidequest objectives are... I also tried restarting Xenoblade X, but I forgot how small the text is so I decided to save it for later.

And lastly I bought Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Fighter Pass because there was a sale online. Now I just have to wait for the Hero to release...
