I actually done think the game should have an Avatar. New Heroes of Light and Shadow had an Avatar because as Elice said Marth needed a protector since Jagen was not playJagen Marth is weak. The atoryline was also better with the Avatar in my opinion, Gaiden has a great story and doesn't need a new addition the game will be fine once there is no Avatar.

Midir is actually a good father for Aideen or Brigid once you train him well and promote him. But with Midir the children are more fragile to me. Also the children are much harder to train. However a better match for Brigid is Dew because better stats are passed down to Patty. Also Faval gets Bargain to repair Ichival cheaper and faster. Patty is also a much better fighter and gets sun sword which is actually helpful. Once you get Dew promoted in the first half Patty will have a B rank in swords. I have used Jamke and Aideen before and its a great pairing. However let arden get the pursuit ring in chapter 2 and sell it and give it to Jamke and also give him a skill ring so Lester will start off well. Once you do that Lester will be one of the best units on your team even better after he promotes. Oh and dent forget the brave bow.

I recommend Azel. I used him on all my playthroughs, the children get good stats, and their magic growth is fantastic. Also, pursuit really helps mages in FE4. If you make Lex the father they will get high strength growths and high defense growths, which will make them weak magic users. Lex is best paired with Ayra or Briggid or any female player who will get units that need the strength and defense more. Their defense will be good with Azel and Talito's stats.

Well in my opinion: FE4: Arden/Midir (They are the worst parents in the game, Midir does to often and as for Arden, terrible speed) FE5: I didn't get to play this out, but I must say Shanam is in no way even CLOSE to Shan an, his is just terrible FE6: I actually played this game (without cheats) and every character is good when promoted, all except Wendy, Sophia becomes much much better when she promotes, she used Apocalypse for me, not Reigh FE7: Erk is not a good sage, Pent is SO much better, and Nino is better as well FE8: I'd have to say Gerik and Marisa, enough said. FE9: Mist is the worst troubadour ever FE10: Mist is the worst troubadour ever FE11: Okay I saw a lot of negatives about this one, but I recently played it and I agree with one thing, too many cavaliers, vyland is by far the worst, Wolf re classed as a general is pretty good. FE12: let's see, I really enjoyed playing this game, but my lease favourite character was roshea and vyland again
