  1. Magic changed completely since 2006, some key factual changes include. Two new card types, planeswalker and tribal, were introduced, though tribal had a bad run and in the words of MaRo, is in its death throes. Planeswalker is now one of the main forces in Magic, no deck can really say it cannot be improved by including one or two. A new rarity, Mythic Rare, was introduced. These appear one in eight packs, though due to there being less mythics than rares (usually 1:4 ratio), particular mythic rare cards aren't that much rarer than particular rares. However, those Mythics usually end up being chase rares and many easily break the $50 mark, so you're looking at a far greater expense. The combat phase had been reworked so damage no longer goes on the stack. Mana burn is now gone. Some wording changes (play is changed to cast, to differentiate form "put into play", "In play" is changed to "The battlefield." "Put into a graveyard from play" is now "dies." "Removed from the game" is now "exiled" <-- there is a mechanical change here, exiled is now "in the game" so you can't wish for them.) Core sets are now once every year as opposed to two, and they're named after the following year (i.e. the core set printed in 2011 is called Magic 2012). Extended is now only 4 years long, as opposed to 7 before. Modern is a new eternal format that comprises of all cores and expansions past 8th edition, (The modern card frame). Elder Dragon Highlander is now a supported format named Commander. In the upcoming set: Some cards are double-faced. You flip them according to certain game conditions. You must play with opaque sleeves or use a proxy (provided by wizards) when they're in your deck, hand, or face down exiled. "Choose target creature and a creature you control, those creatures deal damage to each other equal to their power" is now keyworded as "Fight target creature." Some of my personal observations are: *Wizards seem to be on a slant against control while letting combo run rampant, in the guise of fun. You will see key control cards once thought staples removed from core sets or replaced with inferior versions. The exception to this rule are planeswalkers, since those are basically printing gold. *Paper is generally much, much more expensive to play, budget decks and rogue builds now are much much more disadvantaged. *Legacy got a new revival, though is currently being strangled to death due to the wizards reserve policy (which forbids the reprinting of certain cards, including dual lands). That's pretty much it. Do I recommend playing it again? If you like learning the ropes again, sure. It's pretty much nothing like the days of RAV-TSP.
  2. Your theory hinges on a critical lenma that's probably untrue, and that's Roy having just as much significance as marth, which is simply not true. Marth is the hero of the first FE and pretty much the face of the series, he started it all. Roy's simply the first lord to appear on the GBA, he shares that distinction with Marth (SNES, DS), Ike (GC) and Micaiah (Wii), though we can discount micaiah for not being a sword user, you can also count Lyn/Eliwood/Hector for the first lords to appear outside of Japan on an actual FE game, (hector again doesn't count since his signature weaps are axes). Roy's second significance is that he's the first lord of a second continent, but he shares that distinction with Whoever the lord is in II, Celice, Ephraim/Eirika and Ike. Roy's third significance is he was in smash, but again, so was ike, and if you want to count her, Lyn. There's no unifying trait that makes Roy more special than any of the lords above, so there's no real reason to write Sealed Sword/Falcion, anymore than Tyrfing/Falcion (<-- actually, there is an argument here since they look exactly the same) or Ragnell/Falcion. That and 封印の剣 =/= 封剣.If there really is no space to write out all of 封印の剣, then there's no reason to write it into the name to begin with. It's just a placeholder. So all in all, you're probably wrong. IIRC Falcion's just one of Naga's fangs anyway, no reason why he couldn't have made another one for another hero on another continent.
  3. In one of Farina's supports she states Ilia's (and by extension Elibe's) pegasus won't let males ride them at all. So only girls can become peg knights. So even though they use the male formula, they're still female as far as the story's concerned.
  4. Real Life Shaman is most certainly anima. Nino/Pent/Erk's exposition on it with the communing of spirits thing pretty much cements that definition. Light in FE is invariably associated with some kind of punitive effect, (with the exception of Naga and possibly Nosferasu/Valaura) A shaman on the other hand fits the "diviner"' type more. Also note Light magic is invariably used by an organized religion, whereas shamans are never part of such a structure. So I maintain Shaman is a horrid name for a light mage, and a dark mage as well. The choice to rename it "Sister" in FE5 was better, though Light Mage would have worked just fine. Funnily, the best fit for Shaman, the anima mage, was never called a shaman, since it had been called Mage ever since the magic triangle existed. As an aside, I can see the justification for light due to a Shaman being a spiritual healer and dark due to the association of spirit diviners and necromancy, but as the way magic is portrayed in FE, Shaman's best fit is Anima. In any case, I think the localizers need to remember that continuity doesn't exist between games (Even if the devs said Akeneia is the same universe as Jungral.) So There was no reason at all to name the Light HP drain tome Nosferatu just because the GBA games had a Dark tome that did the same. If that can be the case then Fire = Flux = Lightning, because they're all E-rank tomes that deal damage. I mean, they're not even consistent about it. Eclipse the tome has nothing to do with Eclipse the mastery skill, for instance. So in short. Nosferatu from FE9 is "up there" in terms of horrible localizing decisions.
  5. I'm pretty sure status effects don't stack, so having more than one instance of it is redundant. In any case I don't like any kind of poisoning effect. It's useful for harassing the player if you're feeling particularly evil while designing a level, but as a player poison is almost always too slow and wastes turns. Even against bosses, you're doing something wrong if he doesn't go down in 2-3 turns. That's why the rapier-like weapons always exist, so you can finish off armored bosses easily. Nonarmored should never be a problem. In any case, I'm still iffy about this effect's usefulness, seems way too small and if you're going to expose your fragile fire mages to the enemy boss, it better be worth it. So just +2 huh, well, can't hurt, but not terribly useful. a 5 capacity at best. The board position is a term for the game state only considering known values. In any case, it's going to be more of a hassle to keep track of how many turns has passed since it last fought, and the effect is kinda tiny. Biorhythm grants way more of an effect and is a lot more trackable. a few things. 1. Will this proc even if nobody is next to the target? (consider that physic exists). If so, you just wasted 3 charges. Most big staves are also not loaded with durability. 2. Say your heal can heal a maximum of 10, your target is 20/21 HP and there's 4 guys next to it. If this procs, does all 4 guys each receive 9, or they receive a total of 9? If it's the former, I can see it justifying the three charges, if it's the latter, then there's no way. 3. What about aoe staves like fortify? Those usually have little charges and it will be almost guaranteed to proc due to the increased number of targets. Aside from gimmicks and youtube videos, there is never a reason to send an assassin into battle if it can't hit for damage. Also, I don't know if you remember FE7. Silencer does work in bosses, though the activation rate is halved. If you want Lethality to work on bosses (which I don't think is a good idea), it should still be a 1-hit KO. Otherwise the benefit is marginal. Also note, Eclipse in FE7 is guaranteed half HP damage. It sucked except against the final dragon, but even then, considering Athos can 1-hit KO it with a fallia's might buff and Luna.... yeah, I just don't see a quarter HP effect being useful at all. And like I said, I don't like abilities slanted towards the player. If Slay can 1hko enemies, it should also be able to 1hko allies. FE never babied the player. If your guy dies that's it, restart the chapter if you want to keep the guy. Don't put him in such danger next time. I don't know, there never has been a case of a general not having enough defense barring RNG screw or just a bad char to begin with. In any case if it was to nullify avoid, it needs to be a fixed number. Percentage is always a "win more" thing. It doesn't make up for a shortcoming, only make your advantage bigger, and in terms of defense it really amounts to nothing. And like I said, if you nullify avoid, you'll put yourself at risk for enemy skill shenanigans, If the enemy charges up with a Luna-like effect you will not like the fact that you removed your unit's last line of defense. Unless your Kill-round count is exceptionally high, it'd just be a predetermined sol. And unless your unit is not capable of doing massive damage or is too capable at it, it won't be that much different from lifedrain. That would defeat the purpose of the skill system to begin with. Might as well give everyone an Iron Rune to boot, huh? A lot of the Arena tends to circle around swingy chance effects, and their possibility adds to strategic depth and variance. A conservative player will not risk a Marshal against an opposing Marshal due to the existence of Luna, whereas a reckless player certainly will. If luna doesn't work, There's only one reason not to do Marshal vs Marshal, and that's if either of them possess a critical rate, which is again a proc. Therefore, if multiplayer is implemented, it's almost imperative that these skills be integrated into it.
  6. oh whoops. Forgot those two. But I maintain Shaman in general just isn't associated with light.
  7. +1 Soanvalcke for best. Worst... I'm going to pick Micaiah's Japanese Job name, Shaman. Neither a real shaman nor an FE Shaman was ever associated with Light magic. If it has to be character name, I'll go with Wayu, though Asseray easily nicks the dishonorable mention.
  8. I gave Serra a warp staff, so I can take this pic without having to replay the chapter. First time I did it i was like "wut" but couldn't screenshot it on time.
  9. To my understanding, Cornwall is its own fief in the Lycian League on the same level as Caelin, so is this a mistranslation? Or perhaps Cornwall was destroyed which allowed Hausen to take it over, or merge the two? Or is Pris just dumb/naive?
  10. I really don't like Mia. For me Zihark always outclasses her, but then again, I'm not giving the DB any exp so Zihark's always pretty overleveled. Mist in my opinion just sucks, but I've never saw much need for staff healing before Elincia takes over anyway. The other guys I also minimize using. Only Shinon because for some reason he can dodge and kill, unlike the FE7 archers. All in all FE10's generous helping of Laguz Royals + ike and haar pretty much means you won't need to raise most of the characters unless you're doing ranked, and I don't have the patience for that.
  11. FE11. As much as I hate to say it, the Skill system isn't a part of core fire emblem, just because FE4 is so loved doesn't make it so. That being said, I think FE is a lot easier to swallow if it can be played anywhere so it's less invasive on your schedule, which would be attractive to new players (and really what turn-based strategy is about), so pretty much 1-5 and 9-10 is out, that leaves 6 - 8 and 11-12. 6 and 12 are imports, so barring some shenanigans these won't be played. So it leaves 7 8 and 11. 7 is, imo, a bit higher on the difficulty curve than 11. 8 is not only too easy, but it all in all felt more like a deviation from FE (like Gaiden was). So 11 is the only logical choice. It's newer too, going to be difficult tracking down a FE7 cart with a working battery. And about 11 being lacking, that's actually a bonus. Thus when you approach other titles, you'd feel like you're getting more, as opposed to getting stripped of. My friend who started on 9 and 10 is still having withdrawal symptoms about the skill system every time he approaches the DS games. That and FE11 has an actual multiplayer mode. The two complaints though I have against 11 is that Marth is the convoy (making marth soloes pretty easy), and that it encourages you to sacrifice units, which most people won't.
  12. The status con seems too close to poison. I would change to reduce defense by 25%, since fire would melt armor. That and it gives more strategic depth. Not sure what you mean. Does this mean "support partners will always be able to meet up"? If so, how do you define "danger"? Also broken on peg knights, their partner will be able to walk more than 50 tiles on certain maps due to terrain if this is implemented. I like this. Could work. I'm not sure is shove can already be used on opponents. In any case for the purposes of discussion ice and wind are in the same element of wind in anima for the weapon triangle, so I kinda doubt Freeze and Gust will both be in. Assuming Laguz returns, I like this. Would just "reduce turn count by 3". Much cleaner. Iffy about the board position, but okay. Friendly fire splash, I like. Also should reduce durability twice as fast. I like this. This is more of a negative than the positive effect. 3 Charges is way too much. Lowering might and AS might be better. Otherwise there's too much unknown if this is used against you. This is just lethality except slanted towards the player. Don't like. I guess this could be conditionally usedful. Though avoid > defense, always. This doesn't make sense. The "user" cannot be free from FoW, only the controller. This is just PoR Sol. This may never become useful, even assuming laguz will make a return. Interesting. Might bog up the board position but otherwise I like. I like. Not sure why speed would be lowered. I like. This won't be as useful. HP tanks almost never have enough def, and this is likely to kill them before they wreak any serious havoc. Weaker units will get 1-shotted. Interesting. Sounds like Cancel to me. This is most certainly just PoR Luna. I know Shadow Dragon tries to impress people to make sacrifices, but this will not be popular in the least. It also more often than not rewards poor strategy. You mean basically Reyson's quad refresh in bird form? Okay enough I guess. As for my personal additions. Siege - A Siege tome/ballista user can collapse walls (sorta like breakable walls, but anywhere). Lock-on - accuracy is always 100%. Quake - Deals damage halved to a 2-square radius around self. Uses a dura and friendly fires. Spirit Link - Support Partner will always take half damage for you if they're present on the map. I.e. Person gets hit for 16 damage, instead he/she and his/her partner both take 8 instead. Only work for A's. Missile - Hits everyone directly in front of you. Decrease might by 1 every square. Uses 3 Dura.
  13. I never, ever used the DB more than the story required me to in FE10. They just felt so lackluster compared to the usual starters, especially given the poor screentime they got. Especially Micaiah, poor Micaiah. She always ended up being 5/7/1 at endgame. But fortunately the game's forgiving enough with good units that I can afford to just wall her. I also have this strange preference for foot units, so I never train my cavs even though they're kickass in 7.
  14. The original 12 is going to stay. Pikachu, Falco, Kirby, Falcon, Mario, Yoshi, DK, Purin, Ness, Luigi, Link, Samus. There's pretty much no way any of them is going. Mario Bowser and Peach are extremely likely to stay, and odds are the Mario Franchise will remain the biggest, though with DK also technically part of it, I don't see another addition. Diddy is also likely a permanent member along with Wario. Zelda Ganon and Zelda/Shiek is staying. Toon Link is likely going to stay, which means Young Link won't. Melee to brawl pretty much proved that clones are leaving, and YL stopped being relevant since OoT. I don't see Midna coming in, her game is done. Somebody from Skyward Sword might make it in but i highly, highly doubt it. Kirby Kirby's series is fine as is, even if it's Sakurai's pet project. The various kirbys are definitely not making in. See the clone removal. Star Fox I actually don't see Krystal as a likely fourth for Star Fox, Nintendo isn't known for blatantly adding sexual characters that have no combat abilities to a combat-oriented position. This series probably will not get another character. Pokemon Pokemon Trainer will probably get an update to newer stuff. Lucario will leave for a Gen-5 Equivalent. The guy's not an original or a legendary. His days are limited. Fire Emblem It really, really depends on what 13 is. Ike is definitely going unless it's the fabled third in the Tellius series. If it ends up being a FE4 remake even Marth isn't safe since Celice is his exact Expy. Yes, even Marth isn't safe. He has the distinction of having his entire unmarried life already chronicled, which means there definitely won't be another game about him. Personally, given how badly Brawl ruined Marth I'd rather have him gone than suffer further in Smash 4. If 13 is another Tellius game about ike, then Marth and Ike are staying. I can sorta see adding a 3rd character, either an antagonist or the deutagonist. If 13 is a 4 remake, then I can see Marth being replaced by Celice, Ike leaving, and Maybe the fabled Girl FE char at last in the form of either Ayra or Yuria. Leaf's chances are not good since white Marth is technically representing him. Sonic Definitely out. They'll probably have already decided if they're adding third parties again and if so who. Given how badly they butchered Sonic and how crappy his games have been, I don't see him winning the bid, much less any of his friends. Metroid Samus and ZSS is all I really see, despite being a huge fan. There's a very minute chance Malkovich might make it in, but Other M really sucked too much for that to be realistic (not to mention it's another done game and not an upcoming one). F-Zero Black Shadow might make it in and take Ganon's moveset so Ganon can have his own moveset using his sword. This is a pet theory of mine though. I think the Captain will probably still remain alone. Earthbound Lucas is definitely out. Mother 3 will not be new or memorable by any stretch of imagination by then. Ness will stay because he's an original. Others Pit's definitely staying due to that new game. G&W and ROB are very likely to stay since they don't remove joke characters for some reason. IC's are probably going to stay as well. Other additons Probably one more joke character. Maybe something from Virtualboy given the past trend.
