Hey guys, I'm now sitting at more than 23k feathers and some more waiting for the end of the Arena season (3,908 points is my max right now... that should be another 1,6k). This means I can unlock potential of any of my units. Going from 2 to 3 stars has a negligible cost (100 feathers), and going from 3 to 4 stars is basically a couple of week of dedicated work in the arena (2k feathers), so maybe it's not a terrible idea to take into account all my units, even the lower rarity ones, when deciding who to upgrade. I'll post my whole roster down here... as you can see my team has always maxed Catria (MVP and red killer) and Raven (he's +1); then Eirika and a ranged unit, usually a mage (Lilina or Robin... maybe Gordin). I have a Minerva growing quickly and looking awesome, she's starting to look better than Raven to me, and has a nice synergy with the other flier (Catria). As you can see, I'm lacking blue units and have some overbooking of front liners, so my choice for the upgrade should be a ranged unit. I don't want to upgrade staff units nor support neutral units, which I feel weaker in the long terms. Obvious choice would be Nowi, but I'm not sure of another melee unit... so I'm starting to consider my 2-3 star units, as I have Nino, Robin (blue mage would be nice), Odin, Olivia, Sharena... Any of the already 4 stars ones will be cheaper, obviously. What do you guys think? Thanks!

I'm still saving for my first 20k feathers, as in the first couple of weeks I didn't undertand the ranking system and did quite bad in the arena. Next week I will have >20k (I'm like 19,8k right now) and I plan to upgrade one of my 4* characters. I've been pulling new ones, so I'm constantly changing my mind about the chosen one... I'm almost sure of upgrading a ranged unit... Robin, Gordin or Lilina. Nowi is another option.

I pulled her yesterday and I'm happy because she's a 5* and well, in case you want to use a healer in the Arena, her stats will be better than my 4* healers; and I definetely won't ever use feathers on a healer. Plus, she's a ranged healer like Maria... and that's it, the rest of her skills are quite bad.

Yep, I'm definitely merging that Raven. He has high damage output and doubles-attack frequently, but dies very easily to those red swords out there. Catria is a great red killer, she's my best asset atm. Takumis are a BIG problem for me. I got Erika yesterday, she's already level 20 and works very well. Lilina works wonders against heavy armor units, she's my favorite ranged unit right now (crazy damage). Fae... I'm still figuring out how to use her effectively. I wanted to promote Nowi to 5 star, but my nat-5 stars arre all front liners, so I think it will be better to promote Gordin, Lilina or Merric. I lack blue mages though, I just have 3 star Odin and Robin. I have a green Nino too, also 3 star.

This thread is so interesting. I have a couple of questions for people who has played a lot of matches in the Arena. 1) Setup. 2 Melee/2 Ranged? Maps have a lot of obstacles and I find too many melee units got be a problem in narrow spaces, as they are easily killed by ranged units that fire from a safe position. One of my most used units is Catria, which is kind of an exception because she can fly over obstacles and has high mobility... but still I prefer just 2 melee. 2) What team would you do with this roster? TY!

Catria is probably my best character right now. Her mobility is great and can kill pretty much anything with Luna. She's obviously weak to archer, so she needs another tanky character to her side. Raven fits -more or less- that role, but he's more a high damage melee character than a tank and dies easily to red sword users.

Catria and Raven are always there, as they are my only 5 stars. Then I fit Lilina, Nowi, Gordin, Felicia or Maria, depending on the map.

Who should I upgrade to 5 star? These are my options: Nowi. She's S tier by the last tier list and gains Lighting Breath+ and Def 3. She's blue and a decent frontliner. Cons: my current best characters (Raven and Catria) are already frontliners. Tiki. Very similar, but red. Gains Res+4 and Lightning Breath+. Similar cons, I think I'd prefer Nowi if I wanted a manakete. Gordin. One of my favorites, hits twice and has Vantage. Gains Brave Bow and Vantage 3, which is super powerful. Fae. High ranked too, but I'm not sure if she's too good in arena defense. Gains Light Breath+. Yeah, I got some dragons... Other options: Lilina (gains attack), Lon'Qu (I like spd and Vantage... and don't have reds), Sheena, Merric... Other options II: upgrade some 2-3 stars on their way top to 5 star: Sharena, Sophia, Sully, Cecilia... not sure if it's worth it really. Thanks!

I just pulled a second Raven; and I already had Catria. My first promotion, once I get the feathers, will be Nowi, maybe.

Is the stat buff guaranteed or just a chance? because getting just SPs would be a real waste. I would definetely keep two Takumis, but Raven is a mid tier characters and his utility is kinda situational. At the same time, the idea of a monochrome team for the arena is interesting, because people can't see the team and probably won't be optimally prepared for that.

Great luck in my last summon, a couple of nice 4*s (Gordin, which I like a lot; and Selena, which is kinda 'meh') and my third 5*... sadly a copy of Raven, which I already had. I don`t like to have 2 copies of the same character in a team, but hey, merging him feels like a waste. And a couple of Ravens doubleattacking everything in the arena (and bringing nice DEF debuff) looks cool. Also I have the idea of making a whole green team for the arena with Raven x 2 with insane speed and doubleattacking a lot, Gordin with his guaranteed doubleattack; and then backed up by Fae as support or by a mage (Merric). Both the Ravens and Gordin have advantages when low health, so I see a complicated team there for an enemy that comes in with the wrong team comp. What would you do? Keep or merge? Cheers.

Oh shit, I forgot that. Then it's useless, you'd need to have two 4* Olivias to merge for the remaining one to keep the boost. And that's a bit costly. The level up system in this game is a little bit awkward, isn`t it?

Understood. So what BANRYU said makes perfect sense. Upgrading the 1* into a 2*, then merging the 2* on top of that one to get a lv+ 2*, and then upgrading to 3* (and to 4* after that). Thanks!

If I understand correctly, there's more benefit in merging when the sacrificed unit is levelled up? or it just depends on its rarity? I'm definetely making a 4* Olivia and will pass on the rest, for the moment.

We usually get a 2* and a 1* copy that you can merge and obtain SPs (and possibly a stat boost?) with. Is it worth it to make all the way from 2* to 4/5* with these characters? I'd really like to have a levelled up Olivia, for example, but I don't know if it would be just better to spend feathers on other characters and wait for her to be summoned, some day. TY!

How these character compare (when maxed) with natural 5*s? I'm still far from 20k feathers...

I'm not using this story characters, I feel -from a pragmatic point of view- that I will get more from promoting my Tiki, Fae or Felicia, for example.

Catria and Raven. Not the best ones, but they are working pretty well. Both have a high damage output, although I feel they are a bit fragile to be frontliners (especially Catria, as Raven can auto-heal and deals extra damage when his HP is low).

That's good to know, thanks guys. I will merge a few then. Just more question... should I merge with a level 1 "sacrificed" unit? Or the result is better if the sacrificed unit is levelled up? The stat increase is the same regardless of the remaining hero's level? TY.

Hi eclipse, As I understand, when you increase the rarity of a character, you lose the +N boosts granted by merging with duplicates. So, it should be done with 4*s you don't plan to rank up to 5* ever, right? Otherwise, the merging should be done after increasing rarity. I have duplicates for some of them (a couple of 4* Oboro, for example) and the ones from the events (the past ones, as I can`'t clear the current one).

Hey guys, After a few days playing and a few summons, I'm starting to develop my gameplan for the next few weeks, assuming my roster won't change dramatically during this time. Due to game design, promotions from 4* to 5* characters will be very rare and will take so long, so I want to be very sure of what to do with feathers. I see people mass promoting 3*s to 4*, which I think is not the most brilliant strategy thinking long term; in a few months time everybody will have a full 5* team due to pulls and promotions, so 4*s with be outclassed. At the same time, at least with my current skills, I can`t clear high level maps without levelling my 4*s way over level 20. I think I will need a pretty wide and fully levelled roster to clear them all in lunatic. At first I didn`t want to level too much over 20, as those levels will be wasted experience once the character is promoted to 5*. But being realistic, only one or 2 of my 4*s will ever be promoted, so it's not a bad idea tu just max them and just leave them like that. I have two 5*s... maybe not the best ones, but enough to carry another two companions to fully clear the maps: Raven (green, axe) and Catria (blue, lance). Then I have a bunch of 4*s, some of them decently levelled (all around level 25): Nowi, Felicia, Lilina, Maria and Peri; and some others in progress: Fae, Merric, Hana, Oboro, Sheena, Serra, Lisa, Lon'qu, Tiki and Gaius. The rest are 3*s. My plan is like this (and I'd love to have your opinions here, as I'm relatively new to the series): 1) Max out my 5*s. 2) Level up my most useful 4*s at least as neccessary to clear the higher level maps, but no more. I think Nowi and Fae are my best ones, followed by Felicia, Lilina and Merric. Sheena should be levelled for utility too, as she's my only pure tank and I have a lot of supports and buffers/debuffers. 3) Save feathers to promote my most valuable 4* to 5*. For what I have now, I would probably choose Nowi, who would get Lightning Breath+ as a 5* weapon and is quite compatible with Raven as a frontliner (good defense, RES debuff and Rally Defense for Raven, who dishes out a lot of damage but dies easilly). Fae as pure support or Lilina as pure damage dealer would be close second options. I just pulled Tiki, it could be an option (now I have 3 dragons...). 4) as for 3*s... my God, I don't even know if it's a good idea to invest in them. I have characters I like, such as Laslow, Gunter, Donnel, Florina (I really like this char!) or Cecilia... but hey, it's a lot of investment and summoning 4*s is not that difficult. Should I just send them home? Pick one and try to invest in him? I'd like to hear your thoughts and knowing how's your growth strategy in this game. Thanks!
