  1. Odd bit of symmetry today. My main account’s seasonal banner had 4 blue orbs and 1 green. I chose the green, netting a +Atk -HP Soiree Reinhardt. My sub account got 4 blue orbs and 1 colorless, in the exact same positions. The colorless orb got me a +Atk -HP Bunny Bruno. No complaints, of course. Just a curious happening.

  2. The banner reveal didn’t do anything for me, so I decided to be irresponsible and try for NY! Anna instead of saving to fix my -Atk Yune later this month.  I got Anna on my first pull!...with the mixed blessing of being +Spd -Atk. Being more irresponsible, I decided to fix that flaw. 90-ish orbs later, another +Spd -Atk!

  3. I decided to try for Nailah to build up my B!Ike. The first few circles were encouraging, with two or three blue orbs each. Then, 4 reds and 1 colorless. What the hell, Byleth is a decent compensation prize.

Instead, I get a +Atk, - Spd Laevatein. I’ve never been so happy to be spooked in this game. I’ve been trying to fix my +Def, -Spd copy for a year since she’s come out.  The +Atk copy seems almost like a nobrainer to be the base, but she already has so much attack that I’m tempted to make her more durable.

  4. I started an Athena merge project about a year ago, but I dropped it due to so many other fast swords coming out. She was always on the back of my mind though, so I was very excited to finally see her pop up on the new refines list. Desperation worked so well for her that I merged her up as soon as I could and fed her a -Atk F!Byleth for some fancier skills. I’m kind of debating giving her a -Atk Thrasir for Flashing Blade 4, but I’ve been happy with her as she is now.

  5. I managed to pull a +Def -Res Hector in about 50 orbs. I’m excited to be able to give Distant Counter to Myrrh, but it sucks that the new Hector is better than my built +Atk -Def Hector. I’m going to have to rebuild him, and I’m out of Ward Armor fodder too. First world problems.

Oh. Dude. You have no idea xD (she's linked in my sig if you want to check her out)

For one, yes, she handles other opponents very well. Before I even got Warding Breath I was (trying to get Steady Breath and eternally failing and instead) running Fury, and Tiki with healer support (healer also had Fort Res 3 / Fort Def 2 IIRC), she was responsible for pretty much soloing the left half of the infernal Tanamelia GHB map. Bows, non-Falchion swords, surprisingly many non-TA lances (hell I actually have one vague memory of mine, WEAKENED, taking out a full-health, TT-inflated stats Subaki), you name it.

I don't doubt that Tiki might be perfectly well off focusing on purely pumping up that tangy defense, but personally I'm a really big advocate for double-sided tanking, and her defense is already so good that I think she's okay without needing to invest in it. It's also worth noting that if she's being run on a dragon team (barring rare and pointless comps with both Tikis, which I don't advise given the diversity of the other dragons), she pretty much HAS to be able to counter Julia or her whole team is at risk pretty hard. For general teams where she's being used to bypass tanky axe units on their weaker defense, someone else can be used to counter Julia, but I do think it's worthwhile to let her do it herself if she has the right IV and the skills for it (IE, yours).

As for Aether, I actually personally prefer it and run it on my own Tiki for dat sweet healing, but common consensus is that consistent procing is typically better than the charge-em-ups, so I imagine that Bonfire would still be the main slash in the writeup and Aether would be the secondary if @Ice Dragon thinks it's worth a mention (personally, I definitely do lol. Bonfire might be the preferred option for short-term engagements, IE Arena, but Aether is amazing for her survivability on reinforcement-ridden maps).

At this point, I think you know what I'd suggest doing with your Tiki, but if you're still not totally sure, definitely wait and give yourself time to decide so you have no regrets. (but... yeah. Minty Tiki all the way)

    Thanks for the detailed response!

I am tentatively planning on a midway build, with Steady Breath and a +Res refine to go with the +Res boon. She’ll also be glued to the hip of new BFF Ninian for another +8 to her defenses. I’ll probably sleep on it and decide for sure tomorrow.

I think I’ll never be comfortable going full dragons, at least for the arena. Instead I’ll do something like Myrrh, Ninian, Tiki, and Swordbreaker Sanaki to cover Naga and Falchion.

Many thanks again!  You’ve definitely settled my mind on investing in her.

@Ice Dragon I'm testing my build (+Res/-Spd Tiki with Res refinement, Warding Breath, QR3, and DD3) with no field buffs (IE Fort Dragons) against Julia.

So interestingly yeah, as you say Defense is the main stat that matters for Julia since she can't OHKO through Tiki's skills, but she can if she doubles and escapes being OHKO'd. Atk Tactic boosted, +Atk Death Blow Julia will not kill Tiki, +Def Death Blow Julia with no buffs CAN kill her.

I did some more finagling with skills and IVs and such to see how well Julia can consistently kill Tiki, and it seems like the conditions for Julia to win are QUITE narrow... Basically, outside of the conditions of the prior example or those achieving something similar, Julia cannot ORKO this variation of Tiki without buffs in Atk and/or Def, depending on her build and IVs-- and Tiki does not need much in the way of passive buff support to land that KO again or even escape being killed by the double. Julia DOES have the advantage of being able to run field buffs while Tiki cannot, but Tiki can just as easily neutralize Julia's advantage with passive buffs.

Also.... Green Tomebreaker completely wrenches the works of Julia's ability to kill Minty Tiki, for whatever that's worth. Besides that, a lot of Julia still run -Def from the days when that was considered optimal for her, so the variations of Julia that can kill a GTB-less Tiki WITHOUT help are pretty few and far between, and most will need +4 in Atk AND Defense to kill her otherwise.

tl;dr I do think it's worth it. Even if Tiki's team can't provide the buffs needed to exonerate her while she has QR, she can simply run GTB to hard-counter Julia.

EDIT: My current Tiki is summoner supported and not really a fair comparison (she's in my sig all the same tho), so here is the statline we're looking at for a regular 5* Tiki:

    • +Res/-Spd IV // Lightning Breath+ [Res] | Bonfire | Warding Breath | QR3/GTB3 | flexible | Distant Def 3
    • 45 HP | 47 Atk | 20 Spd | 35(+6) Def | 31(+4+6) Res

Parentheticals are the difference when she's initiated on ofc. 41 unboosted in both defenses is nothing to sneeze at.

Does your Tiki handle other opponents well?  I just wonder if focusing so much on Julia might weaken her in general.

Also, do you prefer Bonfire over Aether? I can give her either, but playing around simulators makes it seem like Aether is largely wasted most of the time, especially the healing portion.

I have the resources to make a +5 Tiki right now, but it’d leave me with no feathers. I also don’t want to “waste” the wrong Breath skill, even if both seem to work well on her.

@Ice Dragon Thoughts on Res-focused Tiki build with Warding Breath?

I may have posted this in here before (sorry if I did, don't remember), but yeah if I didn't. Here's my Res-focused Tiki. At +0 and with Warding Breath instead of Fury, I think it's... 42 effective Def and Res both when attacked from range, 36 each at close range? something like that.

    Screenshot_20171229-073455.png

Is it worth maybe making dedicated builds for both Steady and Warding breath to tank the respective defense (or mixed I suppose, in the case of Warding)? Because my Tiki already laughs at Julia and I can scarcely imagine how it be with WB thrown in lol (well I could, if I ran calcs. But uh. A bit short on time for that atm)

Did anything ever become of this?  I’ve got a +Res -Spd Tiki, as well as fodder for both Breath skills. I’m still agonizing over exactly how to build her.  The idea of a mixed tank with +Res refine and Warding Breath sounds nice, but doubling down on pure defense is also appealing.

  9. It took over 10 stamina potions and various attempts, but in the end it was Fallen Robin(Aether, Distant Defense, Armored Boots), Reinhardt, Ninian, and a 4* +9 Olivia that cleared it. The boots were key to Robin running down the left side and counter-killing one Takumi on turn one. The other died the same way on turn 2, so Skadi wasn’t a factor. The issue was keeping Robin away from the reds and that last green mage spawn. In the end I had to put a +3 Speed seal on Olivia for her to kill that green mage.

It’s a workable nature, but if you’re looking to patch up her damage output, Iceberg or Luna would be better than Aether for more consistent one-round activations. I guess if you’re confident that you can have her OHKO something (i.e. if you tend to encounter a lot of Cavs or Armors, usually of the green or, occasionally, red variety) to bring Aether’s charge to 3 for the combat where she actually needs it, it could be considered roughly equivalent to Luna.

+Spd actually has some pretty good matchups with an offense focused set running Iceberg/Luna, since the Spd bump helps her land doubles on faster/Spd-stacked foes. However, she might need a bit more flier support to net OHKOs on the more Def-heavy green armors, depending on their skill setup (for OHKO purposes, +Atk is equivalent to one Goad stack).

Thanks for the detailed answer. I ended up pulling an optimal +Atk -Def Caeda today, so I’ve got some thinking to do. My Arena Assault runs these days have been plagued by armors, so I think Caeda May be my next investment, even if she’d be my millionth sword unit.

  11. I don’t have a NY Camilla, as Elincia broke my pity rate. However, looking at your optimal build makes me think Desperation would work well. She has the defenses to tank a few hits, but Fury would drop her into range pretty quickly, and she’d have the speed to take advantage of it.

  12. I’m attempting to salvage a -Atk +Def Valentine’s Lyn. One obvious choice is to give her a Blade tome, since she’d have 47 speed after Hone Armor and Atk/Spd Bond kick in. I’d have rebuild an armor team around her though, since everyone currently has Ward Armor.

I’m wondering though, if focusing on her decent mixed bulk with an Owl tome would be better. A triple stack of Ward would be +12 to her defenses, combined with +6 due to the Owl tome in optimal situations. Throw in an ally support, and she’s have 50 Def and 54 Res, though it may be a rare occurrence.

I’ve never used an Owl tome seriously before, so I’d appreciate slant advice.

  13. I spent 160ish orbs today, half in the morning and half in the afternoon. The intent was to just spend 80, but my morning results really pissed me off. One Lyn, but +Def -Atk. Great bulk, but super Attack bane makes her hit like...sword Lyn, basically.

This annoyed me enough that I spent most of my remaining orbs for anyone else, and was rewarded with a +Atk - Hp Hector!  Way better, and he’s the one I wanted the most anyway. Now between him, normal Hector and my +1 Sheena, I’m overloaded with green armors. Still, I loves me some Hector.

  14. A pile of feathers/fodder can be dangerous to have. I’ve been wanting to make a Pain+/Savage Blow healer for a while, but I couldn’t settle on a character. I also didn’t want to bother with the slow drip of SP grinding a healer.

Then I remembered I had a Sakura from the early days. She had nearly 4K SP, and I had a +Def -Hp Sakura in my barracks. That led to this:

    Spoiler

    cbyGVR7.jpg

A promoted Azama and a spare -Atk Spring Chrom went into her. The Attack/Def 2 is purely because it made her stats nice and even; without a weapon she has 30 in everything but Hp.  I’ll admit that was a big factor in doing this in the first place. If only there was a way to chop off three more Hp!

  15. I have a +Atk -Hp Myrrh, and was wondering if Atk/Def 2 might be useful as a stopgap until I can get her either DC or Attack/Res Bond. Her native Fury seems like it’d do more damage knocking her out of QR range than anything else.

I’m also considering Fortress Defense as an option since she ends up breaking even on Attack with her boon.

  16. After looking at all the Myrrh’s on the AA list near my ranking, I decided to make one more pull, and grab all the greens on that circle. 3 greens, and one was a +Atk -Hp Myrrh!  Magically, it took me just 39 orbs to complete this banner, the first one I’ve ever gotten all the focus units from. Super stoked to build her.

  17. I decided to try my luck on the legendary banner again, and spent 60ish orbs for no 5-stars. I’m at 10%, and I don’t think I’ve ever been so satisfied with coming up empty. My haul included 3 Hinatas, 2 Barsts, a Selena and a Cain. So much fodder!

  18. I went into the legendary banner gunning for red and green orbs. As long as I didn’t get Summer Xander, I’d be good. So of course, I pull him in my first circle. +Hp -Spd, so I’ll level him and then leave him on the bench as Infantry Pulse fodder I’ll never use.

One hundred orbs later, I got the unit I wanted most, Legendary Ike!...who is +Def -Atk. Of course he is. My only solace is that he’ll make an amazing tank and QR Ather counters should make up for the -Atk. I hope.

Edit: I forgot the one bright spot to this session: a 4-Star +Atk -Res Soleil. I’m contemplating either Firesweep or Slaying Edge for her, but that’ll have to wait until after the TT.

  19. I haven’t pulled a focus unit off a banner with new units since Halloween. Fortunately, when it rains, it pours as I managed to get L'Arachel and Eirika with just 30 orbs!

Natures were either meh (+Hp -Def for L'Arachel) or god fucking dammit (+Res -Spd for Eirika).  All my 5-Star red cavalry have been either -Atk(Luke) or -Spd(Eirika/Sigurd)...except Leo, and I really wish I could trade off his +Spd. Fortunately, cavalry units are better equipped to deal with a bad bane with their lovely buffs.

  20. I decided to make a new account, since the 20 orb bonus is still available. It turns out I didn’t need it, as my free summons across the available banners got me Priscilla(focus), NY Azura (focus), and Julia, (focus). If only my main account had luck like this!
