First, that's a good idea, but you can't ever have too many Cavaliers. Not to mention, Malice's ranks suit her best to become a Falcoknight upon promoting (she can main swords, and Falcoknight gives an instant D lance rank for javelins), whereas you'll find a couple of really solid lance Paladins or Dracoknights in Belf and Leiden. What I'm trying to tell you is, please use the jacket bois. They're great.
Well, I wasn't saying I wouldn't use them, just that they weren't my only hope for a Cavalier.
QuoteSecond, no. Caeda does not want an Elysian Whip. Caeda's main weaknesses, in this game and the last both, are her strength and her pitiful bulk. Dracoknight fixes both. Falcoknight gives her useless swords.
: Sorry, it's just...Falcoknight's a very special class, and my Caeda's a very special person...
: Was a very special person.
: ...
: I'LL KILL YOU!!
QuoteIn all fairness, it says more about me than you that a complete newbie can come in blind and make it all the way to Gotoh's Bullshit Test with less deaths under his belt than a guy with multiple playthroughs of experience behind him.
No, no, you misunderstand. Your death total was 15 for the whole game.
QuoteBah. You still have, uh...
...damn, he hasn't a single stat that's higher than Palla's.
Though, to be fair, Palla has 4 levels on him.
QuoteWell, too late for Merric, but I suppose this'd be a good time to reclass Etzel to Bishop. Either that or use Wendell just a bit longer.
...did you know that Etzel only has access to class set B, aka. the Male-Exclusive classes?
Yeah, Obi-Wendell shall be used.
QuotePirates or no, they have designs so godly that it's criminal that only Malice got artwork. And it already says a lot about Malice, that she's the only one of the old characters brought back for FE12 that got artwork. Everyone else? Doesn't matter if they came from BSFE or FE3!book 2, none of them got shit. The only other FE12 characters that got artwork were Kris and Katarina, and they're actually FE12 original characters, so it's only natural.
While on the subject, am I the only one who was disappointed that Three Houses has no official character artwork? Every single FE game except for FE11 and 12 had artwork for all of their characters. There were almost no characters without artwork. Even most of Archanea's guys had something from FE3, with only a few characters from BSFE left without. Then there's Three Houses, where there's the protagonists and that's literally it. You can count the characters who got in Heroes, if you want, but that's still such a tiny portion of the game's cast... and it's such a small cast, too! Even with the different post-timeskip designs for students, that still isn't as much as, say, FE6, and FE6 made artwork for everyone and then some major enemies and NPCs to boot! It wouldn't have been so hard!.
Honestly, I am rather disappointed. I love Three Houses, but it lacks quite a bit of the polish and extra stuff other games had.
...oh no, what if it doesn't get a 4Koma!?
QuoteEither that or he likes what he sees. I know I do.
Look, now it's me doing the lewd jokes! We've gone full circle, all!
Yeah, this crossed my mind, but I eschewed, seeing as James has eyes only for Linde.
Of course, when he has eyes...he has eyes.
QuoteNo. Keep her a Myrmidon. She loses stats and swords as a peggie, and will get killed by a Hunter
whenif you forget they exist. Movement isn't as important in Anri's Way as you'd think, for the most part you'll want your units to stick together to weather the storm of lightning-fast fliers. You'll require people who don't get doubled by Wyverns, and she'll fit the bill as a Myrm. Not so sure as a peggie.Duly noted.
QuoteOh, hey! You actually made it there! Congratulat--
Oh, you're going to die so hard in this chapter... you don't even have any promoted units...!
Well, on the bright side, there's the slightest chance that Horace will survive the chapter and you'll get to use him. He's one of the game's most boring characters... and one of Shadow Dragon's highlights. I know gaidens in SD are problematic, but the writing for Horace's whole chapter is, simply put, godly.
Well, it can't be that bad, we have powerful mages and Swordfighters, we should be--

You know, I was going to make an update, but I think Eltosian's comment speaks for itself.
: You know, you could have told me about that; I would have skipped this paralogue.
: So, this isn't really an update, so much as a "Attention Emblemers: James Wick needs your help" situation.

: So, I'm gonna need some help. Tips, strategies, anything that could be useful in completing this heckhole of a chapter.
: Why not look up some online? Spare them the trouble?
: That's cheating, Luke.
: ...
We could reclass Malice if we wanted to, but I'm not sure it's the best course of action. Those extra two points of Strength don't matter as much if you can double far fewer enemies.
Promoting Palla a bit early is an option. I don't think 3 levels on her is worth the deaths of everyone we bring to this chapter.
Leaving this here. Just say the word.
: Also, do we bother saving Horace? The Hammer Roros will just...murder him unless we Rescue or charge the enemy, neither of which I'm inclined to do.

But... There's already a Yoda in Tear Ring Saga! I know that's technically not FE, but Kaga made it and got sued because it was basically PS1 FE, so... bottom-line, call him Yoder, will ya?
Oh. I was not informed of this. Yoder it is.
QuoteInterrupting the food rant to rant about this: in Shadow Dragon, after her father's death, Linde had to pretend to be a boy to slip away, and was unlucky enough to be captured by slave traders and kept in the Knorda slave market until Marth arrived to liberate Archanea. He tried to send her away, but an embittered and enraged Linde insisted on joining the army so she could kill Gharnef with her own two hands.
She had a horrible life and it did a number on her, but in this game she's apparently just sheltered animuh gurl.
They did her dirty in this game, I must say. Even the portrait's worse. The pose is so generic, compared to that over-the-shoulder glare she rolls in Shadow Dragon.
Yeah, I like them together, but I wish their supports were better. Even their C--well, 1-Support, which touched upon this, was basically just:
"I'm an orphan."
"Me too! We have so much in common!"
QuoteTake that back right now! Elrean is amazing!
You--
...okay, he actually is a lot like Annie, but... he's still great!
Don't worry, he's getting used. I'm going to milk the Anakin jokes for all they're worth.
QuoteFrankly, I have no idea how he's supposed to live without getting rescued, or rushing to Elrean with Dracoknight!Wendell. Elrean moves, and even if he didn't, moving anywhere beyond his range from the throne lands Merric right within reach of the Sniper. He hasn't the slightest chance of survival.
Yeah, basically this.
QuoteWell, don't lose sleep over it. A single turn of not getting electrocuted by Elrean would not have saved Merric.
YES BUT IT COULD HAVE SAVED FREY
QuoteThis is even funnier when you consider that Etzel is on the other side of the map.
If you're not with me... then you're my enemy!
Only a Dark Mage deals in absolutes!
WHAT!?
I SAID, ONLY A DARK MAGE DEALS IN ABSOLUTES!
A BANK PAGE HEALS IN HAND SALUTES!? WHAT?!
OOOONLY A DAAAAAARK MAAAAAAAAAGE DEEEEEALS IN ABSOLUTEEEEEEEEES!!
...this is going nowhere.
First, this is great.
Second, I chose Etzel, as opposed to Wendell, because he actually is a Dark Mage. Or, a promoted one, at least.
QuoteI hate these bastards. They're the reason I only dare kill the swarm Bishops when Feena's around to bail the killer out of there.
And yet here you are, risking Palla's life on a 13%. When will you learn?
Never.
Quote...
He survived chapter 6 for this.
Jesus Christ, that was rotten luck. On top of the tactical blunders, you were just unlucky.
On the bright side, it's looking like both of my favourite Jacket Bros are getting used! They're... your last hope for a Cavalier, at this point.
I know...it wasn't even a meaningful sacrifice like Chapter 6 would have been. I just took a stupid risk when there were far better options and he died from it. It's my fault...he died from my own stupidity...
But, hey. Jacket bois! Well, technically, I was thinking of making Malice a Cavalier...and when she hits 20, I'll switch her over to Pegasus Knight and give her the Elysian Whip.
: Oh, yes...the one Caeda deserved far more...my poor, beautiful Caeda...

Maybe it's that way for some people, but not for me. I do rather like mushrooms on pizza, however.
11 hours ago, Eltosian Kadath said:Yeah that's a trap every first time player falls into, as it really seems like there should be a way to deal with that other than the rescue staff. I really hope that Excalibur tome ends up in the convoy for next chapter, as it helps a lot against the far worse desert chapter that is chapter 11...
From my extensive experience of having people die in this game, their items are returned to the convoy. Sadly, I'm not sure I have anyone with B tomes.
: Ahem.
: Oh...nice.

11 hours ago, Eltosian Kadath said:KnightOfNohr, Ruben went into his New Mystery iron man run having completed it multiple times, and on harder difficulties, you've made it clear this was your first time emulating this game. That previous experience Ruben had to draw upon (most of which can't be learned by simply watching someone else play) gave him an extra edge you don't have, so don't feel bad or be discouraged that your units are dying earlier than his, or if you miss secret items or ending.
It's all right. If you can't tell, I tend to exaggerate my frustration when it comes to these LPs.
: Also, I use normal text to talk...well, normally, and use the James portrait to express exaggerated viewpoints, jokes, and interact with other characters.
Battle, Part 2:
SpoilerPalla finally...doesn't kill the Mercenary, because she's one Strength too weak.
The mage that killed Frey attacks Linde. She does fine.
Also, notice I don't call him "Frey's Killer." That honor goes to me.
She finishes him off on her turn.
James also kills a helpless Cleric, so she can't heal her pathetic friends.
Luke uses up the Thief staff and grabs a Large Bullion. Those familiar with FE12 will be darkly chuckling right now.
Not magic...but, seriously. Those stats. I'm really getting tempted to move him over to a combat class.
: But...Wrys' legacy!
: Remember those "Bald Swordmaster" memes?
: Oh...that could work.
Matthis kills a Cleric with the most appropriate weapon statwise, but the least appropriate namewise.
Oh. I didn't notice he had a Killing Edge. Well, he can't one-shot even with a crit, and he should be fast enough--
Wait, this is Matthis.
NONOONONONONONNONO
PHEW. Disaster, narrowly averted.
Profited from, to boot.
Palla kills this Mage...
...and Gordin gets an unnecessary critical on the man who nearly killed Matthis.
Hey, is that--
: 5 POINTS!
: ...you know, if the Fire Emblem OVA had gotten just one more episode...
: ...we would have gotten to see anime Matthis.
Speaking of which, the man himself finally breaks out the discount Spear of Suicide. It's been, what, 7 chapters?
Ryan gets the kill.
...oh no. I didn't notice this guy.
This guy that can kill Ryan at his current HP level.
: OPERATION: PANIC!
: AHHHHHHHHH!!!!
: AHHHHHH!
: AHHHHHHHHHHHH--wait, what about Rescue?
: Oh, for Naga's sake...
: He's dead. You can stop now.
: Oh...thanks, Palla.
Sirius get picked for baiting duty.
Pow.
Of course, he gets healed. James weakens him...
...Matthis picks him off...
...and Ryan kills the Cleric.
Baiting once again falls to worse Arran.
That's right. Get hurt, you second-rate Arran ripoff. So what if you have high weapon ranks and actual growths?
Ryan whittles him down...
...for his brother to snatch the kill.
Luke gets an incredible level. I hardly care that it's not magic.
Wendell prepares to talk.
Huh...he does attack. Imagine if he had crit...
: I have become more powerful than any Mage can imagine!
: Don't you lecture me, Wendell! I have brought peace, freedom, peace, security, justice, peace, and free sand to Khadein!
: You were the chosen one! You were supposed to fight Gharnef, not become him!
: Envy leads to anger. Anger leads to wrath. Wrath leads to suffering. And suffering...leads to the dark side.
Yeah, the apology's a bit late for Merric.
Anyway, all that's left is to clean up and grab the last chest.
...meh.
The green haired trio will be getting the exp here, since Gordin and Palla are close to leveling.
: Gordin?
: Yes?
: Look at my Strength stat.
: ...
: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH! AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!
: Please calm down.
: I'M LOSING OUT ON MY TITLE TO A PEGASUS KNIGHT. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO STAY CALM?!?!
Not bad, but more Speed would be nice--
: HA! See that, Palla? We. Are. Tied. And, soon, I'll overtake you!
: And yet, I'll still out-damage you thanks to my Speed.
: ...
Marth opens the final chest, and...
...
why
Fun fact: Ryan can one-round Mercs with the Quick Sword.
Marth seizes, and we finally complete this map.
Gototh shows up and blathers about coprolite we don't care about because we missed the Starspheres.
Oh no
I can't say I don't deserve it.
I'm pretty sure Medeus ends up destroying the world, so...yeah. Worry.
Oh, boy! It's the Viking Pirate and the Eyepatch Myrmidon!
You know, when you think about it, they're both pirates, one way or another.
James looks very suspicious.
Oh, I see. These are the Beowulfs of the game, aka. the characters you have to pay real money to play as. By real money, I mean actual gold, rather than just the "royal treasury" every Lord seems to have in their back pocket. It tends to be a lot, but we just got a Large Bullion, so--
...I think that's cheaper than the sum of the weapons they're carrying. Heck, it's probably cheaper than any one of their weapons.
See, James gets it.
The rumors that he's willing to hire mercenaries selling their services at a loss? I think this could have been handled more realistically if the actual gold was a down payment/initial fee of sorts, and the rest would be payed post game in back-pocket-royal-treasury money.
First, nice hat, and the mustache is on point.
Second...oh, no. It's the desert level.
On a scale of Yes to What Happened To Frey, how would you rate the decision to make Malice a Peg Knight for the Desert Level?
: Oh, but first, we have to deal with...
: ..."The Mask Laughs..."
: What is that music?
: Is that...electric piano?
: Am I--not unique?
: Maybe I'm not here at all
: Are you...singing?
: Yup. He's singing.
: WAKE UP--GET UP--GET OUT THERE!
: RAISE YOUR VOICE AGAINST LIARS!
: FEED YOUR ANGER LIKE FIRE!
: Please stop.

QuoteAh, Etzel. I love this man. He's a great character, he's got a great design, and he's a great unit in this game. Best Mage in the game, bar none, sporting great bases, great ranks (Excalibur at base!), decent bulk for a Mage... he's just all sorts of awesome.
Pictured, why Etzel is awesome. A lesser Mage would've died.
He is pretty great. A team mainstay for sure.
QuoteHe's also the namesake of a playable Bishop from FE6. Which I feel is more relevant, this being a FE forum and all.
Well, I prefer to call him Yoda, so...
Battle, Part 1
SpoilerHey, it's the analysis thing! Let's see how it goes...
Ahh yeah
I presume it's the Resistance one that's your favorite, Ruben.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses (2019)
Also, another conversation between these two.
Fun fact: I actually hate strawberries.
They're just so sour to my mouth. It makes me cringe to eat them.
Oh, and they often have squishy bits, which make me very uncomfortable.
I do love bananas and pears, though.
I'm not a fan of oranges, and I despise artificial orange. It makes me feel sick.
I am fond of orange juice, however. As long as there's no pulp.
I honestly prefer vegetables to fruit, however. I love a nice, fresh cucumber, bell pepper, or celery stick.
I've also always liked broccoli, and was always weirded out by TV characters and the like rejecting it. "Why are you going 'ick, broccoli?' IT'S DELICIOUS!" ~Young KnightOfNohr
On the other hand, I really don't like vegetables on pizza. They don't taste nice and fresh like they do uncooked, and they don't taste savory like every other part of the pizza. It just doesn't mesh well.
Did you know that my brother hates pizza? He says it's because of the tomato sauce, but he also refuses to try sauce-less pizza...
But I think I've talked enough about food for the time being.
Judging by his expression: yes.
Anyway: Marth gets the Boots by popular demand.
Today's team.
It's Thoron! I mean, it's Elrean!
But he still didn't get Excalibur.
: This is outrageous. It's unfair. How you be an apprentice, and not have Excalibur?
So...I do this.
I'll not mince words here: Merric dies. This was my fault. I didn't want to use the Rescue staff, because I thought there was a "way" I was supposed to do it. I looked it up, and apparently, most people just used the Rescue staff. Or, you know, Flyers...but I'm a bit short in that department.
In conclusion...he dies. I'm sorry for being incompetent.
Seriously, I didn't even Pure Water! WHY?
Palla, being my only flyer--aaaaaand now I realize I probably should have kept Sirius as a Dracoknight. Sigh. Swarmguy #1 dies.
Sirius moves over and kills this Cleric before she starts becoming annoying.
What Silver Card
Wendell starts robbing his own school. ...presumably. I didn't end up using this, but I probably would have if I realized that this Silences all the enemies. ALL THE ENEMIES.
: This update is just hindsight after hindsight, isn't it?

Sirius kills a Mage.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA---phew, he didn't crit. 13% odds, if you can read past the flash-bang.
If you had only gotten Strength last level...
Top 10 Photos Taken Seconds Before Disaster.
The irony here is that with an actually competent player, Merric dying means that Elice has to get eaten by a dragon. Of course, on this playthrough, she's going to no matter what, so...
Anyway, Swarmguy #2 dies.
OK, that's pretty good.
Frey kills the western Cleric.
Or, at least, he tries to.
Ow.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA--oh. Once again, he failed to crit.
Now, James weakens this Mage. He's not a huge threat, but he can kill Frey at his HP level. So, what do I do in this situation?
I RISK HIS LIFE ON A 71% CHANCE
AND HE FAILS
And now, you understand why it took me so long to upload this.

My years of watching Dora have indeed taught me much.
On that topic, has anyone here seen the new Dora movie? It's hard for me to take seriously, what with being a live-action adaption of DORA THE EXPLORER, of all things.
First off, the fact that the tagline is "Explorer is her middle name." NO IT'S NOT. IT'S HER LAST NAME. DON'T TRY TO TELL ME HER NAME IS "DORA EXPLORER EXPLORER." Oh, and Boots isn't even wearing Boots. IT'S IN HIS NAME!

Hey, not necessarily. He could have pteranodon--ed up the Starshards and have no reason to waste time recruiting you with a squadron of overpowered Heroes on his tail.
Is that a good thing, or a bad thing.
Right, good thing.
This is a good conversation.
Michalis is a pretty good villain.
See? I'll not make the same mistake again!
Now, Ruben and Eltosian both agreed this isn't too bad; I should be able to compete it without much difficulty--

OK, round 2.
Palla draws first blood by murdering this Thief and nabbing a handy Master Seal.
Everyone else moves up, quickly, but cautiously.
Sirius just barely fails to one-shot this Thief. How pathetic. Arran would have one-shotted him.
...oh, Arran...
Matthis steels himself to fight the oncoming Dracoknight.
Ow
Gordin finishes him off on his turn, gaining...
...
You got Speed last time, Gordy! I'm disappointed in you!
Palla, sadly, fails to double this Thief.
: Perhaps I'd do better if you LET ME OUT OF THIS BUNNY COSTUME!
Sirius finishes the other one off, gaining a decent level. Arran's still better.
The other Dracoknight is tag-teamed by Linde and Ryan.
Positions...
Ryan gets hurt pretty bad, but thankfully, there are no more mages in range.
Aaaaaaaand everyone triggers. Oh, and Marth can't reach Etzel. I was hoping we could get through this without using a Rescue staff.
: Rescue staff, AWAY!
: Are you going to do that every time?
: Uh...not if you don't want me too!
: No, no. Go ahead. You delusions of heroism amuse me.
: ...
That's not Magic.
Laziness inspired me to use last attempt's pictures for this conversation.
: Lies! NOTHING BUT LIES! They invaded us...they took away my Caeda...and for that, I will crush Archanea. I will burn it down and salt its metaphorical fields.
: No empire, built on blood, shall grow there again. You have my word.
: ...sure, why not.
Etzel joins our team with a bang, criticalling this hapless Mage.
Gordin, sadly, fails to do so, despite better odds.
: OK, guys: let's all call Gordin "Gordo" when he fails. Spain doesn't exist in Fire Emblem, so he'll think it's just slightly mocking nickname.
: Like "Deku," come to think of it--
: K E E P Y O U R A N I M E O U T O F T H I S!
Matthis gets the kill instead.
Linde and Ryan once again team up.
Not bad!
Our formation on the Western Front.
Meanwhile, Palla kills this Thief before he murders Minerva.
Meh.
Ow, that hurt. He even misses. Way to go, Barst.
...
: ...
: Guess who's got a Viking hat and is getting used!
Marth does a EPIC GAMER DODGE.
Etzel gets smacked.
Palla continues being on Thief duty.
*Obligatory yoink joke*
OH BOY.
SUGGESTIONS WELCOME.
Etzel weakens a mage...
...for Matthis to kill.
James picks off the Dracoknight, gaining a beautiful level.
Frey and Linde defeat a Mage...
(Decent level. Speed is good)
...and Ryan finishes the last one.
...Linde's in Dracoknight range.
Shield formation, activate!
Marth dodges the bugs.
The dragon attacks Etzel, but he just barely survives.
He crits in return, too.
Thank you, Jagen. You're a much clearer mid-battle warn-er than Hardin. Though I suppose you are working for us.
If by "hasten the march," you mean, "stay back until we're safe from bugs."
Yay, Magic.
Buzz buzz.
Wendell gets a level.
...hey, is that--
: 5 P O I N T S!
You know about mosquito bites? Imagine if those hurt.
That's Swarm.
Buz buz motherT-rex.
Palla kills a Buzzbrain from a safe distance.
Palla, have you tried bugspray?
: HAVE YOU TRIED LETTING ME HAVE A NORMAL OUTFIT
: OK, coast is clear!
Meh.
Just in time, too. It's the Ambush Brigade!
Wendell does some shopping.
Isn't Bolganone a fire spell...?

So, I thought Mounting/Dismounting was like Trading—it didn’t end your turn (ie., you could still attack), but you couldn’t move afterward. I just now watched a meme video comparing 3H to Genealogy of the Holy War, and learned that Mounting/Dismounting is a free action that can be done whenever you want, like accessing your Inventory.

I never said I cared much about the Dark Seal. Yeah, it'd be nice to have. But my main goal was accessing allied reinforcements. Like I've said multiple times, Death Knight is sitting on the eastern reinforcement tiles. So it's in the player's best interest to kill him so you've got more allies to help on the map.
What I did was use a Gambit to get him down low enough for Lysithea to one-shot with Dark Spikes.

...Then what's the point of it existing? The idea behind Divine Pulse is to be able to revive a unit you lost and try again. If it can't actually change the outcome, it's useless.
The point is to allow you to try a different, safer strategy, not to just brute-force through levels by trying over and over until you get good RNG.

As a UI programmer, the first thing I do in any game is study all the interfaces and press all the buttons to see what I have to work with. That said, I have had nothing that I felt like I learned too late.
Also in reading this thread, I have become rather depressed as over half of the issues involve not knowing about something that has a permanent on screen prompt telling you about it. Why are so many people ignoring all the UI that is trying to help them.
Ignoring is not the same as overlooking. At least for me, it took me so long to adjust abilities and such because they were under the Inventory tab, and when I selected it, I had inventory on the brain.
No one’s blaming the game designers; you don’t have to be so smarmy. This is a thread to laugh at our shared mistakes, not to say “I had no issues, and you guys are all stupid.”

You weren't paying attention; you were clearly warned, so be nice to the game.
Yeah, fair enough. On my second go around, I actually read the dialogue and was astounded by my own stupidity. It would have been helpful for Plebeians Like Me if the objective was something like "Escape Within 10 Turns," but that'd be a bit hand-holdy. I usually default to such a defensive mindset in Fire Emblem games that hurrying like this didn't really sink in. So, I'm sorry for being a bit fussy in my fit of rage.
Also, what's with 3H's obsession with randomly setting everything on fire? First this, then
SpoilerChapter 14--at least on BE-Church. I'm not sure if it happens on the other routes.
: OK, I fixed it.
: Huh? Who are you? What do you mean, "you fixed it?"
: I was just passing through, and I saw you die. So, I used my time reversal powers (which are as ridiculously unbalanced as you'd expect) to reset the battle.
: That doesn't answer the question: WhO aRE YoU!?!
: Ah, sorry. My name's Byleth; I used to be a teacher, but now I'm an inter-dimensional avenger with the power of god and Anime on my side, on a righteous quest to kill every

: Between the

SpoilerLast round's disastrous performance has inspired me to swap out Castor for Sirius.
First of all, this is the moment I started feeling really dumb. Second of all:
"Captain, what are you doing?"
"Showing them compassion."
This is the moment I started to feel really, really dumb.
Yes, I can tell.
Note: since I will be completing this chapter as fast as humanly possible, Bantu will be skipped. It turns out, Tiki is only recruitable if you have the Starsphere, so...
Look familiar?
...
OK, no Leo for us.
Very familiar...
Very familiar...
Familiarly bad.
Moving...
Haha...yeah.
That round of combat plays out exactly the same as last time.
Barst grabs his Hand Axe and prepares to fight the other Paladins...
...while Linde and Frey take care of this one.
More Speed would be nice, but still pretty good!
The Firestone Thief is dealt with, more or less just for EXP.
Defense...nice.
That hurt!
That didn't.
Tag team!
Skill! Speed!
...what.
Frey earns just enough EXP to get a mediocre level.
: I'm going after Roger.
: ...what?
: I've wanted to kill him for 2 years.
Look! It's the Ambush Brigade!
: Barst, you can get the kill.
Yeah, whatever.
Hey, does anyone know what determines which directions the characters face on the top screen?
Everyone moves up, because I've learned my lesson.
Ow.
Ow.
Not likely.
Palla launches a tactical strike on this poor Sniper.
This poor Sniper.
Don't worry, Frey can take a hit from the General. As long as the others aren't activated, we'll be fine.
Voila!
Ryan hands Gemini over to Sirius so he can one-shot this Mage.
Everyone else moves up.
Aaaaaaah.
See? He's fine.
So's Sirius.
...They moved.
: Don't worry! I have a brilliant plan!
: With Frey and Barst blocking two options, both spaces Gordin could get dropped into are exactly 5 spaces away from Jeorge!
: Rescue staff, AWAY!
Not magic, but it doesn't matter, because Luke just saved us all!
Sweet victory!
Hmm...something's wrong with this image...
Perfect.
They do?
: Hey, best Strength in the army.
: Tied for best Strength in the army.
: With a Fighter, aka. a big bundle of Strength, and nothing else.
: ...15 skill, though.
: 13. The book doesn't count.
If that's too much trouble, could you...just...step out of the way for a moment?
YES! YES! WE DID IT!
LO HICIMOS* WE DID IT!
*Spanish for "We did it." Presumably.
This isn't Thracia, Marth. We'll be fine.

That being said, Marianne's backstory is... actually good. I dig it, it's a twist I would not have expected. My respect for her has risen, I should get around to reading her supports at some point.
I still stand by what I said about Bernie, though. Too shallow a character for me to even bother caring about her. Heck, most of the time I just ignored her in my exploration sessions.
I mean, most Three Houses characters have dark or deconstructive backstories. For example, Bernadetta is a shut-in because
Spoilershe's suffering PTSD from her abusive childhood.
Still, even I, as a fan of her, can admit that most of her supports are kind of one-note. Not really the sort of fare that can inspire a complete 180 in a player's opinion of her. I am rather fond of Linhardt and his supports, though. I did not expect to like him as much as I did.
QuoteBut... but no, James... dance for Linde from her left, and have her stand on the tile where the Cavalier was before being roasted by, well, you... riders can't cross forests well, so with the Mages blocking the plain tiles, the Cavalier wouldn't have had enough movement to circle around to get to Feena...
This death was completely avoidable, man. The others were a result of the map's bullshit reinforcements, but this?
Oh, well. I suppose I can't blame you for not being able to think straight in such a horrendous situation. Still, Feena's an extremely good Dancer, even as far as Dancers go. This is... not good, to say the least.
...I'm sorry.
Perhaps I shouldn't play these maps so early in the morning.
QuoteIt just dawned on me, Navarre is going to survive everyone.
If you make it past this chapter, I request that you sacrifice him for good luck. Navarre cannot survive all these great characters. Even Feena is better than him. It just... cannot be...!
Do you mean units or characters? Never-mind, it applies either way.
QuoteMan, Matthis of all people survived this nightmare. And after facing the boss, too. I'm so happy. Sorry to be so happy, but I'm so happy. I still wouldn't bet on his survival past the next chapter, but...
You don't have to worry about that. I practiced an ancient tactical manuever known as...
"Not Bringing Units With A High Risk Of Death."
QuoteAlso, it seems I was mistaken about the Heroes attacking in this difficulty. Can I just say it would've been really funny if Marth died from you trying to get dramatic shots?
Hey, convenient excuse to restart the chapter.
I'd still discharge everybody, but then at least Marth wouldn't turn into a mish-mash of Dimitri and Keanu Reeves.
QuoteGood job! Now get the physic staff.
Yeah, after he takes the physic staff, right?
...you have no idea that you get a physic staff by standing on the cave tile, do you...?
...well.
YOU DIDN'T GET THE GODDAMNED PHYSIC STAFF, YOU'RE GOING TO DIE YOU FOOL
: ...
: Well, how was I supposed to know about it?!
QuoteHaah... haah... huff... sorry. It just... devastates me so much to see the run in such a deplorable state.
You have base Sirius and Palla, a bunch of mediocre units, and three Mages (counting Wendell) who can't take a hit to face one of this game's hardest chapters. You have no ranged heals, no speed starshard, no Dancer, you can't recruit Roger so that's one more nuisance to deal with next time, you...
: Hey, are you calling Frey, Barst, Mym-Ryan-Don and Highest-Strength-In-The-Army mediocre?
: Not enough speed and no Starshard to boost it?
: No 1 range options?
: Poor defensive capabilities?
: Why are you guys defending your mediocrity?
: No, they're all pathetic. Compared to my Caeda...my poor, poor, Caeda...
: You know, your tears would have more impact if you took off those ridiculous sunglasses.
: Never.
QuoteAll jokes aside, if you can just make it past next chapter, the game is going to start handing you replacements that should be enough to patch up your army. You just, well... have to make it past next chapter.
Best of luck to you, my friend. May you prevail. If I could beat FE6 with thirty-something deaths, you can beat this. I believe in you!
Thank you! Your words of encouragement mean a lot to me!

Battle, Part 1:
SpoilerFirst and foremost, Barst gets the Secret Book. Hello, being able to hit things!
Our team for today.
As well as Starshard distribution. Any one not shown is with its last holder.
I realize just before I start the map that we need to Hammer the Rescue staff, so Malicia takes Matthis' place.
Oh, hey, Cain. Like we need more Cavaliers.
Actually, we do. Hey, Cain!
Being the only one with both the Defense to take a hit and the Speed to not get doubled, Frey takes the lead.
Cain, meanwhile, goes after the Starshard Thief. Yes, I know we locked ourselves out of the good ending, but Strength +2 is good, if only for the next 6 chapters...
Also, did you know that you only unlock
General Arranthe Male Class set merger if you get the True Ending?Yeah...
Marth, meanwhile, makes his way to the village.
Everyone else moves up.
Oh, and Malicia does the one thing she's good for.
See? Luke is a far superior Healer to you.
Brontosaurus you.
See that, Hardin? I'm swearing at you in dinosaurs that don't even exist!
Frey dodges, but sadly doesn't crit.
Cain slaps the Thief, and...
...grabs Leo!
Gordin and Castor tag team the weakened Paladin. No level, sadly.
Ryan attacks the Thief. I know, it's a lot of damage, but we have two healers on standby, and that's assuming it doesn't--
--backfire.
Nice.
Defensive positions! If you could call them that.
Yay, Bantu!
Still pretty bad, even with the Firestone, but he's a Dragon, so your argument is invalid.
Enemy phase doesn't go so great for Castor.
This is satisfying, though.
Cain will block this spawn!
Frey, who's only a few exp off from leveling, chips the Ridersbane Paladin. From a safe distance, of course.
Nice.
Gordin weakens him further...
...and Barst finishes him off.
Palla weakens the other one, and shows us all why she's the best character in the game.
Ryan picks him off, getting a similarly good level.
Castor steels himself to face down Castor.
Oh, you sons of velociraptors.
...what is that?
Roger's link portrait is just...all sorts of weirdness.
It's like watching armored mech suits slapfight.
Cain retreats...
...for Palla to face the Cavaliers.
: You go, Palla!
: Existence is pain.
I'd like to address that Roger is equal or better than Castorknight in every way.
Sadly, Caeda's untimely demise means he gets to die too.
Uh...
Oh boy, a Vulnerary!
Everyone moves.
Aw, come on! She can't even one-round them! She calls herself the best character...
: Hmm...I think I know what holding me back!
: WHOEVER'S RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THE EASTER BANNERS!!
Wait what
Oh phew I thought something was gonna happen.
Take this!
Double team!
Critical hit!
: Hey, a Ridersbane Knight--
: KiLL EveRY LaST OnE oF tHEM!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Complete with unnecessary critical. Marth's rage knows no bounds.
Uh...Castor dies.
Look at it this way. Would you rather it be Castor, or Matthis?
Linde kills a man...
Nice.
Oh come on.
Thankfully, Palla dodges.
Frey makes sure Linde's safe in Nosferatu-land.
Luke levels. That's not Magic...but at the same time, if we were to reclass him, he'd be a halfway-decent combat unit.
Ow
No doubles, so she's safe.
...really, Frey?
Our turn goes well.
Very well.
...isn't...Marth...some 20 tiles away?
Has anyone here seen Shazam? You know the scene.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA--oh. She dodged. Still, that'll teach me to not check damages.
Wait wha
Excuse me?
...you know, when I was playing this map, I was thinking, "Why is this considered so hard? It's not that much worse than the last." Then, this happened.
Now, we must kill Jeorge.
Or at least, we would, if there was any way for Marth not to die in this situation.
Hey, he crit.
So...yeah.
If Marth's death had been from plain bad luck or faulty tactics, I'd probably discharge Castor and Gordin after the reset.
This, on the other hand? This was me utilizing a strategy that failed because of of a ridiculous upturn I had no way of knowing. Besides looking it up, but I try to keep that to a minimum.
Castor and Gordin get to live, and I can go into the level knowing about the moving heroes before they spring that cheap shot on me, and actually have a chance of winning the chapter.
If there's unanimous outcry, I can discharge them, but I think this is a reasonable course of action.
So...yeah. See you tomorrow.

That's the most Luke Luke line ever.
Shiida's line isn't very in-character, though. Keep in mind that she seduced Navarre into joining in Shadow Dragon. And Castor. And Roger. And Lorenz kinda (he saw right through her, but it amused him so much, he still decided to join).
Bottom-line, she would never be opposed to this sort of behavior, so long as it led to more disposables for Marth.
I think she's still annoyed at him from her recruitment chapter.
3 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:So it begins... this chapter is absolutely nasty. And the worst part is, it doesn't even begin to compare to the next one. Next one is a nightmare.

3 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:Can I just say that I don't like Marianne that much? Don't get me wrong, I don't hate depressed people for being depressed, but Marianne is just... written in such an anime-ish fashion. I much prefer Gilbert's portrayal of depression, personally, because he is written in a way that acknowledges that depressed people can and will hurt those around them. Not intentionally, but it's easy to make all the wrong choices when you're unable to think clearly. Depressed people are hard to deal with. Marianne isn't. She's protecc bait, like Bernadetta, if I may be blunt.
Then again, I could be mistaken. I haven't looked at her supports. Maybe she's better than I'm giving her credit for. If anybody cares to change my mind, I welcome you to try.
I rather like both of them, honestly, though that's probably the protecc thing. It does make sense that Gilbert's depression is more realistic, since it stems from a realistic source. Meanwhile,
SpoilerMarianne's Crest is said to curse those close to the holder with bad luck and eventually transform them into a monster, and she decides the best way to deal with this is to never have any friends and pray for death every day.
I have to admit, seeing Bernadetta slowly improve over the course of the school phase is really cute.
Well...we do have Frey. It's not the end of the world.
Oh wait, it IS, because I missed the STARSHARD!
SpoilerWe're back! First things first, Feena's almost definitely dead!
At least we can deal with the boss, though!
Ow
Thankfully, a collaboration between our Mages kills the Cav! The other one can still kill her, though. I wish I cared.
...one point of Strength, Gordin. One. POINT.
This doesn't help.
Matthis gets the kill instead.
Good...but that's not Magic.
This boss is a nightmare.
Byeeeeee Feenaaaa
I don't think he can. He's useless, you see.
Unlike our beautiful MyUnit. Only just able to double Knights.
Linde's in the same boat, except she needs her super-magic-nuke to even kill them.
OK, boss plan: Arran punches him, Luke heals, repeat.
I know the odds look bad, but everyone else gets one-rounded.
As long as he doesn't crit--
...
: ...does anyone have a gun?
: I gotcha covered! Squirt or Nerf?
: Squirt. I can fill it with soda and do the thing where I stick it in my mouth.
Yes, hit me. Maybe I can die and pretend like this nightmare of a run never really happened.
Actually, nevermind. Speed. That's worth the lives of every good unit on my team.
: Fun fact: that quote about insanity wasn't actually by Albert Einstein. Therefore, my strategy is flawless.
Matthis gets a heal, and Marth gets the kill. Either he gets revenge, or he dies and we restart this map. It's a win-win.
Goooood.
Also very good. Yay, actual Magic!
With that, we seize and move on to the next chapter--
: No.
: No?
: No.
: No?
: I'm not seizing. I'm going to take a walk.
: But...what about my turn count--
: Pfff-HAHAHA! Ah, I can't even take myself seriously.
: Astram.
: I could attack you, right here, right now.
Astram: You'd die.
: And I would welcome that death.
: But, no...Caeda would wan't me to live on. To exact bloody revenge on everyone responsible for her death. And I intend to appease her.
: Fare thee well, Astram. I'll be counting down the days 'til your death.
...This happens.
Pathetic.
Goodbye.
Marth continues his walk.
: He should be getting back soon.
: It's been...what, a day?
: Did someone say my name?

Battle, Part 1:
SpoilerOur team for today.
For Starshard distribution, Matthis gets Cancer...
...Gordin gets Libra...
...Linde gets Aquarius...
...Arran gets Gemini...
...and Cecille gets Taurus.
The map begins, and these two show up.
Fast kills are Navarre's specialty.
: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
: Don't. You. Dare.
I start off with them, so as to avoid the fate of Ogma and Friends in the Lost Save File. Feena can survive one attack, but no more, so it's imperative we get her into a safe pocket.
Like this one. Navarre will attack, get danced, and attack again. Worst-case scenario--well, absolute worst-case scenario, he misses, and Feena dies. Assuming all attacks hit, worst-case, he doesn't crit, Feena takes an attack, and the other Thief is left unharmed. Best-case scenario...
...he crits twice. Nice.
Less nice.
Everyone else just moves up.
Ow.
Caeda destroys a Thief.
Feena is...um.
I...may have overestimated her movement. Bottom line is, she's in danger.
: Don't worry! Luke's on the case!
: Rescue staff, away!
: Hmm...you know, we only have one use of that left.
: Yeah, but Malicia can just fix it with her Hammer staff, right?
Moving...
You'd better not.
Of course, if we do...
Navarre manages to dodge the Archer this time.
The other one...not so much.
Cecille fights off a Thief.
...well, look's like Navarre's dead.
Or, he would be, if not for Feena! See, saving her was a good idea!
It doesn't look like we'll be able to get this Angelic Robe. Oh, well...
Arran at least makes an effort.
Gordin gets a kill, and Catria prepares to take on all of these Thieves.
Ah, Triceratops. Ambush reinforcements.
Hey, he dodges again.
...spoke too soon.
Ow.
More ow.
...
Yeah, we're not getting those Thieves.
Instead, Arran retreats to help defeat the Archers.
Catria kills another Archer and chases after this batch of Thieves. If anything, we definitely need to get the Starshard. Even past the whole "good ending" thing, this one's Scorpio, aka. the +2 Speed one, aka. the best one.
Arran gets mended.
Linde, James, and Cecille team up on the Hunters.
These guys are still a problem...
...which is why we brought Caeda, with her OP personal weapon!
Up at the top, we're going to have to employ some complex strategies if we want to kill the Thieves.
The three have just enough damage between them to kill Catria.
However, we also have an Arran-Ace-in-the-hole.
Catria can also use Camus' Pike on the hapless Mage, turning him into a non-issue.
Also...this Knight with the Ridersbane can one-shot Caeda. So...yeah, we'll be bringing our Mages down for that.
She even dodges the Cav. Keep being awesome, Caeda!
Catria does some dodging of her own. Keep being awesome, Catria!
Like that, yes.
Now...
: ...
: She can't reach him.
: I...think I just doomed humanity.
I suppose we'll have to settle for a Master Seal.
Rather than get the Starshard as I originally intended, Catria instead takes out the Mage with spectacular style.
Nice.
Feena also gets a level. It would be good, if it mattered.
: Excellent. The only obstacle is out of the way.
: HAHAHAHA!
: You can't even hit me! You idiots!
: Die before your princess!
: ...I'd point out she's not technically their princess, but I value my life.
: You can let me do it. I don't.
: Marianne, who let you out of therapy?
: Sorry.
Uh...this is looking pretty bad...
Nonononono...
This is good and all, but I'd prefer if you used the good RNG on dodges, rather than crits...
NO!
: ...
: Well, that's the first good unit to die.
: Here's to hoping there won't be too many...
Bottom line: the Ridersbane Knight needs to die. Right now.
Good level.
Arran can weaken this guy...
...and Cecille can finish him off.
Pretty good level! We do need more Strength and Defense, though.
Caeda kills the final Knight, sadly failing to dodge.
: OK, we're in a pretty good situation. Caeda can regroup with the rest of the army, and then we just have the boss. We can do this-
: NO!
: NO! WHY?! NO!!
...
...
TRICERATOPS! DIPLODOCUS! APATOSAURUS! STYRACHIOSAURUS! PTERODACTYL! PARASAUROLOPHUS!

Not for me; I've consumed entertainment media before.
Thanks to my supreme tactical skills, we've collected all the Starshards so far.
By "some of our comrades," you mean Wrys. No, Samto doesn't count. He was an enemy with a face.
Of course! Naturally, the lives of the soldiers fighting for us will be higher priority than the ones of those fighting against us.
Always go for the paralogues, Marth.
Our team for today.
Is it, though?
To start us off, Marth kills this Knight.
Caeda weakens a Fighter, gaining a good level. It's official: highest Strength on the team.
: Gimme a break, OK? She's a few levels higher than me. I'll catch up!
Anyway...Matthis picks him off.
Ryan weakens the other Fighter, dodging the counterattack, to boot.
Everybody else gets in defensive formation.
Roro, having a ranged weapon and all, targets Caeda.
I have an interesting little headcanon about Roro. You see, that's not actually his real name. It's a nickname he came up with because "Eineine" is kind of embarrassing.
He misses, of course. Even with the nerfed dodge rates, Caeda's avoid is pretty much the highest in the game.
Can you just imagine Caeda with normal dodge? 60 avoid at level 10 or so. I think they may have changed the formula just for her.
An assassin shoots at Ryan, but he dodges. As expected.
Matthis, sadly, fails to, but his two extra points of defense soften the blow a little.
Ow.
Wow. That's a lot of damage.
This map was really boring, and I'm having trouble making it interesting.
Pow.
Wait, what happened to the Fighter-nevermind.
Sadly, he ends Ryan's dodging streak. For that, he must die.
Frey heals up and continues to choke the point.
Yes, I'm killing Caesar. He's aggressive, so he'll just suicide onto the nearest unit on his turn, unless I unequip everyone's weapons which would lead to possible death on their part. This may surprise you, but I value the lives of my own soldiers more than those of two recruitable enemies that I'd almost never use anyway.
At least Radd had a cool name and a cute portrait.
Hey, it could be worse. You could be a Fire Emblem: Fates character.
See? His death was justified.
Caeda kills a man.
As does Ryan.
Nice.
Barst contracts Cancer...from the convoy.
Chug chug chug.
It's the best stat and the two stats that nobody calls attention to but you really want ticking up in the background.
You don't look so Radd to me.
Ryan proves once and for all that he is the better Myrmidon. Whose name starts with R.
...WAIT A MINUTE.
HAS IT BEEN SPELLED M-Y-R-M THE WHOLE TIME?
Triceratops I thought it m-y-m-r all my life.
I've been pronouncing it wrong all my life and will probably continue to do so.
...
...uh...hate to break it to you, kid...
Now, it's just clean-up.
Oh, and the boss. Of course, we have Caeda, so...yeah, it's clean-up.
Meh.
Then Marth seizes. Archaeopteryx this chapter.
If they were Communists, I'm glad we killed them.
: Glory to capitalism! It's not quite as bad as the alternatives!
That's a rather casual way to say it.
You know, it's never truly explained how Roro does this. Magic? Other people taking on the role? An inverse version of multiple personality disorder? Plus, with his mask and unsettling way of speech, you'd be forgiven for thinking he wasn't human. He's altogether very creepy.
Oh no.
An epic one.
I'm pretty sure that went beyond offending. Don't even consider having done something different, though.
He is. Jagen's just an archetypal mentor figure, and he's great at it.
If it means we can field him again, I'm all for it.
I'd make a remark about hogging all the attention, but I think this is a nice conversation between Marth's retainers.
If the MyUnit is supposed to be me, he definitely doesn't have a hidden genius.
Also, this.

This is actually the case for the beginner tier of classes, so it's easy to get that impression.
By which, you mean, the Fighter class.

Just ninja'd me and prevented me from talking about Normandy.

Under the Inventory section of the battle menu. You can also change classes there, and rearrange Battalions, Abilities/Skills, and Combat Arts.

Linhardt is probably the best user of Stride in vanilla BE due to being proficient in healing magic allowing for faster obtainability of Physic, AKA the bread and butter of the best healers in the game. Stride+Physic allows your healer to heal basically anyone with Physic's long range.
Stride doesn't technically work this way. It's a Gambit, so using it takes up your action. Still, you could make use of this strategy with a Dancer.

The Story Itself
A while ago, I had the idea for a Fanfiction where Edelgard acquires the Death Note and the Geass, becoming the most ambiguous anti-hero of all. I was eventually spurred to write and publish this story, and have been working on it for a week now.
Since it’s a Fire Emblem story and all, I figured I’d put it on here. (If links aren’t allowed on this subforum, please move or close this topic)
