To me TvTropes is one them. I used to think it actually has reliable information, but a recent visit disappointed me immensely. It’s so full of misinformation, and they exaggerated facts a lot. They tend to make sympathetic villains less sympathetic by exaggerating their crimes, when some them haven’t still be cleared up, and the opposite also holds true, make unsympathetic villains more sympathetic based on fan theories

I think it really depends on which pages your viewing, as the site has been around for a couple of years, so some entires are more effected than others by the things you just mentioned. Then again, I do like looking at more obscure games/movies on that website, so I guess I don't see these things often enough to bother me. I do think that their decision on how to split pages can be odd at times (I can understand Super Smash Bros being separated into several different pages, but why does Awakening have different pages, while having a similar quantity of tropes to Fates, which could be fit into one?) and it's annoying to see mentions of shipping or "this character is gay/bi" in places it really doesn't belong.

They didn't fall from grace by any means, but I do remember that I stopped going to gaming website like Armor Games and Coolmath, because while the ads were far from intrusive, they did legitimately slow down the games.

I also stopped going to Stick-Page, but that's more because the site can be a little difficult to navigate at times, and I could find the video I wanted to see faster on youtube, rather than the site itself dipping in quality. I also wish they gave content warnings about their videos and games. I'm fine with some of them having blood or swearing and the like, but it would be nice to know about such things ahead of time, instead of getting a nasty surprise.

The forums, maybe. The actual site, no. They promised to give the hard data on the games, as well as to provide Fire Emblem related news, and they do not disappoint.

    What's incognito window?

On google or Firefox, click on the three dots in the corner, select New Incognito Window, and presto! You can now search up everything to your hearts, and your internet browser won't record any of it in your history (except the website will know that you've been there, and so will the NSA, but hey, as long as you're wise in what you search up, it shouldn't be a big deal).

^May have poor internet. I can sympathize.

Actually, no. My internet works just fine. I thinks it was just the simple "website is so busy it slows down" kind of deal. This is the first time it's downright crashed, though.

^ I wouldn't say a "big" fan, but I did enjoy nearly every Pixar film that I've watched (Cars 2 is the only one I actually dislike, although I did enjoy the first Cars for what it was) and greatly admire and respect their work, and agree that they're pioneers in the industry. I haven't watched every film they made, though.

< Once had a dream where Panne was the inventor of the trampoline in Archenea, and it made so much sense that I personally think it's canon. I also believe that Kellam is an inter-dimensional time-traveling ninja who's actually present in every single game in the series, pulling strings from the background, and decided to finally make an appearance in Awakening just in case it really was the final game in the series.

^ Intentionally chose a 'v' statement that had multiple options as part of a sneaky plan to have it be true no matter how the next poster views his scar - you can't fool me, and I've outwitted you! I find your scar…UTTERLY INTERESTING WITHOUT ASCENDING TO THE LEVEL OF AWESOME! HA!!!

I somehow gave a combination of a genuine yet sarcastic slow-clap when I ready this. Thou have not outsmarted me, but thou have cleverly twisted by words!

^ I haven't played New Mystery, but I do know that he's one of the character's in your Let's Play. I'm going to take a guess that he's a priest or mage (or sage) that's considered redundant (but you've made him a bad@$$ anyway).

If Jeesie is to be establishing his mercenary kingdom, I'd like to see him actually get into some conflict with Alm and Celica over it (since he's bascially stealing their land) rather than come to their aid.

I could see Jesse attempting to pull a big damn heroes moment and saving either lord in their time of need, with him overall trying to stay on their good side. Of course, if player choice is involved, such attempts could end in either succeed or failure, with the results helping or hurting his cause. Maybe we could even get epilogues on locations for once in the series, with his mercenary kingdom garnering Jesse a lot of renown and respect but being very short-lived, to it lasting for several decades, or heck, even centuries before it's inevitable fall.

I'm not sure where they could go in the story given there are no antagonists left undefeated or areas unexplored, but if Alm and Celica got to appear supporting their Conqueror and Rigain designs, then I'm sold!

It's stated that they have to deal with rebellions and brigands in the ending of the game, which could present some interesting scenarios and add to the world-building. The game would focus on specific years of their reign, and maybe have multiple endings where the players choices could affect the future of Valentia.

There could be moments where the gameplay is shaken up, such as times you you play as the head(s) of brigand groups taking advantage of the unrest to raid travelers and pillage villages, and maybe even attempt to rebuild Greith's empire. You could also play as a leader of the rebels in both Rigel and Zofia to see their views on the matter. We could also see some of the more fanatical members of the Duma Faithful that didn't join the There would be gameplay differences with both. With brigands, you could focus on spreading as much choas and fear as you can, or you could be pragmatic and only steal goods and only kill those who attack you. With the rebels, it could similarly to Battle for Wesnoth or Advanced wars in the sense that you hire your units and they're expendable, with the focus being bringing the common people on your side.

    As for the reasonings:

    Spoiler

For Rigel, It's very easy to twist the story of Berkut's and Rudolf's death to make it seem as if as if Alm lied about being the son of the latter (and to make it seem as if those who actually know the truth are going along with the "story" to gain political power), and/or that he killed Berkut to remove competition, with the "story" that Berkut went crazy as a cover-up. Some rebels would also twist Alm and Celica's romance as just a political marraige to gain even more power, and bingo. Alm is now painted as a warmongering and power-hungry tyrant who's willing to lie and murder to get ahead to the uninformed.

As for Zofia, I imagine that quite a few people are not happy that King Lima's line is still continuing after his disgraceful reign as a king, and many of the nobles what to keep some of their power and are afraid of having a former commoner who's expressed goals of minimizing the classism as a new leader.

Along the way, you could see interactions and supports that weren't available in the original game, as well as seeing some moments mentioned in the epilogue play out in the story, such as Python forming a militia, Leon setting up a shop, Nomah uniting both religions, and Jesse forming his mercenary kingdom. We could see Alm talking with Valbar, Jesse saving our hero's in there time of need, Sabers wife and Delthea's husband. We could see Kamui going out for a walk one day and disappearing, Mathilda giving her reasons for stepping out of the spotlight, Zeke leave for a while, and see how Grey and Tobin act now that they're given more responsibilities. We could also see why Valentia was not involved in Mystery of the Emblem (and maybe after the events of that game are done, Est disappear to Valentia, and Able would find her their. It would give closure to their story, at least). Really, I could go on for a while, but the point is there are a lot of things they could expand upon, with a lot of chances to do so as well.

It would also be a chance to give further development to both Alm and Celica:

    Spoiler

I always wondered what Alm though about having the responsibilities of being a king being thrust upon him, as we never hear his opinion of people believing he'd become king of Zofia after the war was over. We could also see his response to having accidentally killed his Father, and having no remaining family. Overall It would be a great opportunity to flesh out both his flaws and his strengths.

As for Celica, it would be providing her with a second chance to show that she's learned from the deal with Jedah, and to remind people of her character in the earlier parts of the game. It would also be a chance to show her grow in wisdom and become a better foil and counterpart to Alm.

Yes, I have spent a lot of time thinking about this.

  10. I actually wouldn't mind a downright sequel to Shadows of Valentia, or at least an expansion pack. I think they have enough options for how to handle the story, and I'd like to see the mechanics of Gaiden explored and expanded even farther and with good maps to play on.

I haven't played Geneology of the Holy War yet, but as long as the game gives an adequate warring first, I wouldn't mind seeing an extra large map appearing once or twice in the Switch game. I've also had thoughts of a 'board game' side mode, where you control multiple lords/generals with their own army's on a Genealogy sized map (or larger) while trying to achieve an objective against other players, and anytime two armies fought, the game would transfer onto a smaller map where both armies fight in a normal Fire Emblem battle.

A lot of NES RPG's and the like feel pretty empty to me, precisely for how minimalistic everything was.  But in the case of Gaiden, that worked in it's favor.  It was SUPPOSED to feel pretty empty.

As for the world building, I...think the original was at least better about it.  At least, it wasn't bad enough that I registered there being a problem until Echoes emphasized said problem.  With Gaiden, I just went along with it without question.  But with Echoes, that's when I noticed "wait a minute...there's a lot of 'tell, don't show' going on here".

I dunno, I never got the impression that Gaiden was supposed to be a empty game. A dark game yes (it still amazes me that an NES game managed successfully include regicide, patricide, and child murder, without it coming off), but not a bleak one. Different interpretations, I suppose.

At least in the remake the game makes it clear when you're fighting Zofian forces and when you're fighting Rigel, as well as why. Honestly, I like the detail that Rigel recently invaded northern Zofia after the latter's king didn't keep his end of the deal (and yes, I do know that Rigel sent support for Desaix's coup in both games, which "unintentionally" got them involved in a total war). That being said, I do agree that that the game rely's more on 'tell, don't show' than it should, even though I still enjoy the games story overall.

  12. Surprisingly, yes, I've heard of the game and even know a little bit about it. I'm debating whether or not I'd actually enjoy playing it, though.

^ Is somehow making it through an Ironman let's play of Binding Blade without using any of the top tier units, and despite the blood and tears that have bent spilt, still presses on. Seriously though, despite how much you call yourself a bad player, I'm still amazed and impressed on how you're making it through one of the hardest games in the series without using any of the units considered needed for the hard mode, and It's been a great joy to read through your misadventures, struggles, and victories (I've actually been meaning to comment on the let's play for a while, but sadly never got around to it. One of these days, though, I'll say something).

<Has beaten Time Crisis 2 (twice) and 3 in the arcades, and I set a high score on Silent Scope 2. Both times I've visited Florida, I've won the jackpot on one of those "meteor drop" games.

V Owns a Youtube channel and has posted at least one video worth watching.

  13. 7. Cavaliers, despite their weaknesses can, will, and do dominate the battlefield if you let them (although Mount & Blade does a better job in this regard; a group of horsemen can do a lot of damage before they inevitably fall; a regime of well trained, experienced, and well-equipped knights can, and will, turn an outnumbered fight into a bloodbath (of your enemies blood)).

    8. There are advantages and disadvantages of being a jack-of-stats and being a specialized character in both bases and growths.

    9. More from the fanbase than the games, but don't let peoples views and opinions stop you from liking what you love. Similarly, be respect to people you both agree and disagree with. Harshness won't get you anywhere; kindness will.

Wait hold on I just had an idea. What if they're waiting for April 20th to announce something, for a game as big as this it seems like a good idea to celebrate the anniversary of Fire Emblem by showing off it's latest entry. I think we might be able to hope for something on April 20th or sometime after that.

I've been thinking about that for a while, and I believe we'll get a direct (maybe one just focusing on Fire Emblem) sometime in April. I honestly don't think that Fire Emblem could hold it's ground at E3 if it had nothing more than a reveal trailer, and I think that if they went into detail about the gameplay like they did with Xenoblade Chronicles 2, people would get bored (although I can't remember if the long and slow description of Xenoblades gameplay was at E3 or not).

Meanwhile, if they revealed the game in a direct, they could spend more time talking about the gameplay for those who would be interested in it, and they could expand upon the details at E3. It would also be an opportunity to discuss Warriors and Heros news, and heck, maybe if they're adding more DLC to Echoes because I want my tragicomedy about Valbar, Leon, and Kamui meeting, hijacking a pirate ship, and invading Barths fortress, dammit.

The old man you talk to for opening the floodgate does actually have dialogue more to that effect if you try to get him to do it prior to Celica's promotion in Echoes (that said, he's hardly a soldier now, and he won't recognize Celica as Anthiese until she's crowned)

I guess I forgot to say that I wish he didn't have the generic "old man" portrait used for him. That's probably my biggest gripe with echoes presentation wise; nearly every single commoner and soldier design is reused, and it's extremely noticeable due to the quality of the art. When the old man at the floodgate is the same old man that gave Celica a ride in his boat is the same old man that asks for wine in Ram village, moments like these loose their impact.

  16. I enjoyed Awakening, and think that any strategy game fan that owns a 3DS should get it. It's a solid, if flawed, game (and overhated, though not without good reason). Shadows of Valentia is my favorite Fire Emblem game at the moment. I haven't played Fates, and might not until the game is old enough to be bought cheap (although I did miss out on an opportunity to get Conquest for free, as my cousin sold the game before I could ask, but I don't mind since It led to me being able try out Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild).

^Is new here, and doesn't how to add signatures yet.

<Has posted the Killer Instinct Ultra Combo video enough times that, if I condoned drinking, someone could make a drinking game out of it. I also haven't actually played the game either; the gameplay is just that fun to watch (and the plot and characters are surprisingly well-written and enjoyable).

v Has posted in the FE Nonsense Story Thread at least once.

(A question about this game; is it a "one reply per person" or can we respond again after enough time has passed?)

  17. During the cutscene where the Ferox border guards throw javelins at Chrom, Sumia misses the resucue and end's up hitting a snow pile, and thus the story of Awakening ends early...

...except that Chrom is still okay, as Kellam decided to move to recruit himself early, and by sheer coincidence dual-guarded against every projectile.

(Admittedly, I don't know if this would ruin the moment, or make it more awesome (or both)).

  18. It's extremely small (but that's what the topics about), and despite having never having gotten past the first chapter when trying out the original game on an emulator, I have read a let's play on the game (twice) when I was researching the original game after Echoes was announced.

In order to complete chapter 3, both Alm and Celica have to open the floodgate. On Celica's side, there is a guard that you talk to first. Here's what he says:

I'm the guard of this floodgate. What? You want me to open it? No can do. Only the Sofian royal family can order this gate opened. I ain't listening to you!

Hmm? Wait a sec... That crown...! That's the royal family's crest! Then you must be the long-lost Princess Anteze! F-forgive my rudeness. I'll open the floodgate straightaway.

Your Highness, the western floodgate must also be open to drain the water.

Considering that most of the people you converse with outside of story or recruitment have generic NES dialogue, this stood out for me. Sure, it's not much, but it was different enough from the rest of the game's dialogue to catch me off guard. It also helped that my imagination pictured this guy as a gruff, yet faithful soldier who was genuinely saddened by the death of the royal family, and that his job was now moot. As I said, it's small, but I miss it nonetheless.

Also, I thought that the Cliff in the original game gave off the impression of being a "inexperienced, but a fast learner" kind of character. I'm fine with the characterization of Kliff in Echoes, but I do forget he's supposed to be the "starts off weak, but grows quickly" kind of character.

Also, where's the "Don't worry Celcia. I'll crush these bastards!" line!?

  19. As Rudolf is on his last breath (HP/gameplay wise, not story), he's realizes that the next attack will probably kill him, and tries to tell Alm about his past before it's too late. Unfortunately, before he can open his mouth, Alm scores a critical and decapitates him.

That, or Alm slits Rudolf's throat with a critical, leading to several awkward minutes of the mighty king of Rigel bleeding/choking to death.

    Spoiler

Alternatively, Rudolf tells Alm about his true parentage and how his brand means he's destined to use Falchion to slay Duma. And then Rudolf dies.

And then a Duma Faithful assassin appears and kills Alm.

    Spoiler

Instead of graceful speech Duma gives after his defeat, he instead summarizes his words as:

"OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!! (YOU STABBED ME IN THE EYE!!! It's okay, I'm the god of power. I'm used to these kinds of blows). Anyway, gg bro. I hope you use both me and my sis's lessons as you move on to the next game mode. We're going to be leaving the game for a while, so don't bother contacting us. Bye."
